To put it simply, Harrods is the finest department store in the world. It's at the height of London luxury and they boast that you can literally purchase anything though them, obviously that's legal. I've been coming here since a small child and the service style and beauty of the place has never wade. This is a tourists must if your visiting London and ever true Londoner such as myself can't say they've never been there. One of my favorite part (and most nostalgic) about visiting London is going to Harrods. Each floor, each room, each section is so busy and full of things to see. Pros: - The food hall! They have everything from meat to chocolates. I come here at least once every time I visit London and eat at The Grill. They have the best rotisserie chicken I've ever had. - I haven't visited every single floor because that would take me the whole day but my favorite stop is the toys section. Everything from Shopkins to $40,000 mini cars. Cons: - You can easily get lost in this mall. Walking though each section, make a few left turns and bam you've forgotten how to get back to the escalator. - There are stuck up people that shop here, workers included, that won't give you the time of day especially if you are just there to look around. I felt like I was being judged walking through the luxurious brands of clothing. read more

This is the Disney World of stores! The store is large, huge even. It is both easy and fun to get lost here. You can easily spend an entire day here just admiring the store and their vast items. There are over 300 departments that offer everything from houseware, groceries, restaurants, decor, clothes, shoes, makeup, perfume, jewelry, toys, gifts, and so much more! Each level in the store is a different theme and decorated very ornately. There are over 30 restaurants to choose from. "How much is that doggie in the window?" I must confess it has been several years since I was last in London. I remember making the pilgrimage to Harrods. The clouds parted and the sun began to shine. Heaven. I was astounded at how many different departments are in the store. One of my favorites was the pet department. I couldn't believe they were selling puppies in a department store! I'm a sucker for a cute pup or kitty so imagine my delight when I was greeted by happy furry little faces. Seeing all of the animals made me miss my pets even more than I already did. The department also sold doggie couture and furniture for the pampered pooch. I saw a canopy bed for a toy size dog that was the equivalent to $600. Wow. Needless to say I did not make that purchase. If I ever find myself back in London I will definitely pop in and say hi to all the cute and cuddly animals in the pet department at Harrods. read more

London's ultra posh department store where you can shop among the elite locals and, well, tourists. For me it was like as if I walked into a Nieman Marcus that became an ornate museum where the exhibits are for sale. At an ultra premium naturally. There's even an amazing food hall inside where you can purchase £2,500 caviar! It's prohibitedly expensive here but just the experience of walking through each intricately detailed department is really fun. This store is pretentious and expensive... but I still kind of like it... it's also clean and fairly well-organized with some very nice merchandise. When I was about 11, I wasn't allowed into Harrods because I was wearing cut-off jean shorts. My family and I thought this rule was pretty ridiculous yet headed back to the store later that day in different attire and made some purchases... (we don't hold shopping grudges!)... I believe they also have a Starbucks and yummy food inside the store... Plus, you gotta go because Harrods is famous! read more

FM@LMdCK: [smiling] No. You just said you didn't want any. You can't have one now. Me: But now I want one! FM@LMdCK: Okay, here you go. [proffers a tray of coffee flavoured macarons] Damn it. The Frenchman's tactic totally worked. After one bite of heavenly confection, I was sold. I -had- to have a £10 box of assorted macarons to take away. I even got another delightful free sample out of the deal. Beyond tempting me with sugary succulents, Harrods' food hall offers endless entertainment to those that love to eat. I could have readily spent hours just browsing the shelves, looking inside well-lit displays of pre-fab edibles, and noshing on the samples being handed out left and right. Beyond that, the rest of the gigantic department store is a bit of a wash. There are plenty of eye-catching objects, but nothing I could imagine spending such a fortune on. I'm grateful to have experienced this shopping mecca, but I'll have to leave most of the goods within to the tourists from Dubai and Shanghai with a few spare billion GBP to blow. Harrods is such a British institution that you can't skip it if you're visiting London! Everything is outrageously expensive, but it doesn't even really matter if you can't afford it because it's like a museum in here. Just walk around all the massive, open floors and see what catches your eye and get a glimpse at how ridiculously wealthy people might spend their money, haha. Also, I find the Harrods bears so, so cute. But really, it's a lovely department store to walk around, and it does feel different from the rest. It's easy to get lost in here in the best way. And unlike what you might expect, you never actually feel judged or pressured to buy things - so it's fun to look at all the different levels and displays (there's a huge section of gorgeous, intricate fountain pens that I never knew existed and costs into thousands of pounds). The lighting is also just dim enough so that you don't feel like you're being glared while shopping/browsing (maybe it's just me, but that's what I tend to feel like at Selfridges). I like that sense of just being as I please! I also love the afternoon tea here, which is reasonably priced (esp. compared to what you can get in the States), but that's another review! read more

Have I died and gone to consumer heaven? Anything you could ever want is in this store. Food? Check. Shoes? Check. Clothes? Check. Toys? Check? £30,000 Hummer go cart? Check! Sorry Disney, but Harrods now reigns supreme as the happiest place on earth for this shopaholic. Came here on Sunday with my friends after recovering from our day trip to Dublin. We ventured here from Piccadilly Circus with the intent on having the English experience of afternoon tea. Terrace Bar is located on the 4th floor of Harrods right next to the children designer clothing and toy section. A funny place to have a spot of tea, but hey, the store is a wonderland so I'm not complaining. Afternoon tea wasn't as expensive as I worried to be, it was about £9 per person excluding tip. The restaurant next to Terrace Bar had the more expensive and luxe version of afternoon tea, but for something that makes your wallet a little happier, queue to the right instead of the left. No difference whatsoever and you can hide your smug thrifty smile behind your steaming hot cup of tea. Snack options with your £9 afternoon tea are sandwiches, scones, and pastries. I went with the scones and my my my were they yummy. Just enough flakiness to make it a pastry, and chewy enough to hold the butter and jam. The store itself is just amazing. There is a memorial for Princess Diana and Dodo on the lower ground with the last champagne glass she drank out of. The food hall is just amazing. Will make any gastronomy lover go "ooohh". During the holidays there are massive sales that run wild, so do expect crowds! Unlike America, when they close, they close so expect to be herded out with promptness. We were in the middle of browsing for luggage when we got herded. My friend thought he was going to get yelled at for touching the merch, but it turned out they were letting shoppers know the registers were closed (it was exactly 6PM). Went back on Monday to see/purchase all the things that I missed on Sunday. The "shoe boudoir" has stolen my heart for sure. This is heaven for shoppers although the layout of the store on each floor seems like hell to navigate. There's a giant shoe floor for women and a smaller one for mens in the lower section. Then there's the floor with each store dedicated to big international brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Balenciaga, Burberry, etc. And finally the only other section I checked out was the technology one. Harrods was having its sale so it was especially crowded. We must have visited Harrods at least 5 times. Each time, my daughter ordered macarons which were about 6 for 8+ pounds. They were delicious. Oh Harrod's! Why are you so damn expensive? While in London you have to visit Harrod's. 5 floors of expensive, well appointed goods. Everything from Gucci kids clothes, to a French bulldog in the pet store (£8,000). It was fun walking around wondering what these people do for a living who can afford to drop £850 on bed sheets! We perused the food courts and I found myself salivating over the tasty selections. I purchased a few salads that were by the pound. I had a toasted hazelnut sugar snap pea salad, a Mediterranean pasta salad and a shrimp salad. All were superb and pretty affordable considering where we were ordering from. I purchased some cute gifts from their affordable touristy section-coffee mug with baby George's announcement, an apron and a double decker bus kids toy. Def worth a stop while in London. read more

I was excited to check out the Perfumerie, since they carried a few brands I can't get at home. Specifically, I went to the Byredo counter. I found the service to be overbearing, austere and cold. Perhaps it's because this is a major tourist trap, I had a "Pretty Woman" look or the staff is trained this way. I found it to be a really unappealing way to shop on a Thursday afternoon. When you honestly intend to buy and are shopping, it's nice to just be left alone to ponder. Some counters in the Perfumerie were overbearing, reaching out and aggressively calling at you and offering sample cards. Others tried to be invisible but still seemed to be silently judging or side-eyeing you. It is a hard to be the right kind of service for everyone but I found it impossible to find the sweet spot. Too cold or way too clingy. Maybe there's a problem with theft, maybe they're commission based. I'm not sure. I just know I'd probably not return to do any shopping here, except in the food area. With something as personal as fragrance, you just want to spray a few samples on cards, deliberate in your mind and have the freedom and space to do that. Of course, when questioned, the staff should offer their expertise. I just felt uncomfortable a good part of the time. If I could shop online for such a sensory experience I would. Harrods is arguably the best department store on earth. Anyone who claims they can get anything in the world you may want, even an elephant, has to be good. The Harrods site is monumental in size and range of products. From gourmet baguettes to £50,000 dresses, there are so many sections and floors of luxury products it can at times seem unbelievable. The service is attentive and formal as you'd probably expect. For all you know, you could be rubbing shoulders with A-list celebrities and royalty. The fashion sections are at the absolute cutting edge of the moment. The bathroom department has some stunning designs. Everything about the place smacks of luxury and it is almost enough to make me want to work overtime so I could be closer to affording what's on display. If you are hungry the ground floor is excellent. Check out the pizzeria with the singing chef. The sweets department is sensational and the foods of the world's counters are mouth wateringly good. Harrods is a phenomenon that must be sampled. Even if shopping isn't your thing, just standing outside to view the incredible top of the range sports cars and classics, makes the journey to Knightsbridge worthwhile. read more

What can be said about the most fabulous department store I've ever visited?? All I can say is: Wow!! This is a shopper's paradise! The department store is so large that they hand out store maps. This came in very handy as we wanted to look at a variety of items. From the great food hall, to designer bags, to perfume, to Harrod's merchandise, this store had it all! I even visited the Diana and Dodi memorial which was right inside the store in the Egyptian Hall. It was very tastefully done. 500! And it goes to the most famous mall in the world. Everything about this mall is top notch. Their staff are very well-trained. It's really unlikely to get someone bad because those personnel will be weeded out soon enough through Harrods standard. The mall and windows are very pretty. I was there as a contractor and they are tough. They absolutely will not compromise on anything that would bring down their look and vibe. No construction or changes are ever allowed during open hours in places open to the public. They wouldn't even let me quickly carry a bucket up to our closed doors area during construction. I had to check it in and wait for the mall to close. They are uncompromising and that's why they are so great. The food hall is spectacular. It's far from what one would think of as a food court. I absolutely love eating there. There's live OPERA sometimes too on the balcony next to the escalators. It's over the top and nothing about Harrods is just average. Plus, it's at an amazing location and in one of the most posh area of London. This is my favorite city in Europe and I would probably even say internationally to have a business trip at and was fortunate to go there three times in 2013. Harrods gifts are reasonably priced if not a great deal. The shops in there, however, are the top brands of the world. I can see why people love Harrods. I was spellbound and enamored by this which was supposed to be a department store but was unlike any I had ever been in. Their designer shops are definitely out of this world. This is the place to find some of the most high end brands there are. Even though you could find these same brands on Bond street, the atmosphere is just different. You feel more invited in Harrods, and the world of possibility seem more open to you. Like you can be rich, powerful, spend lots of money and be glamorous while doing it! They had a very healthy selection of designer shops, although there were certain designers that were completely sold out of their iconic items (think Celine!). I only ventured as far as the Food Hall ... but oh my, the food hall. I have never seen a place filled with so many choices, so much good food, so much availability within my reach. You can literally eat anything and everything. The steak bar (yes, it's literally a bar!) had me drooling from the start. There is also a sort of ... pre-packed food / produce hall where they sell everything from condiments to cheeses and meats. This was also a very eye-opening area as you glance through all of the most high end jars, containers and packaging you've probably ever seen. I kind of wanted to buy everything, but realized I could probably only realistically afford one thing. I ended up with nothing since I ran away to a wine bar instead, but what an amazing and MUST visit if you're in London! Even if you plan on getting nothing, it's such a worthwhile look. read more

While I'm not really sure if I like as much chaos with my tea purchases as Harrods provides, I know I love their tea! So much so that as I begin to run low on bags of their Earl Grey (I bought a 50 bag box during my recent trip to London), I have begun to search for people who are going to London in the future who can retrieve me more! Despite its almost overwhelming qualities, there's a reason people line up outside of the doors of this British institution before it opens and fight the insane crowds here during to go on a shopping trip. They have almost everything someone could want to buy in one place. Harrods doesn't have a book department like a normal department store, they have a bookstore within their building (carrying all of the latest travel books so now I know to start my trips to London there instead of ending them at the store). They don't have a toy department, they have a toy store within the building. They don't just sell suitcases, they have a travel department which actually books trips to use the luggage on! All with a touch of "this feels so fancy, I shouldn't be here maybe." It is rare for me to shop at a place with doormen. Especially iconic ones. But the real reason I shop here is definitely the Food Hall (including what might be my favorite tea shop in the world). Even though it's in an expensive neighborhood and many of the other wares sold at Harrods are prohibitively expensive, the food is surprisingly reasonable. It's easy to pick up a picnic lunch for a day out on the town to actually save money. Money to spend on other things in the store of course. But I have the last laugh since I don't. Mannequin Envy I may not have made it onto the guest list at last night's Bond Skyfall premiere at the Royal Albert Hall, but hasn't stopped me from taking part in this year's 50th Anniversary celebrations for the Bond movie franchise. As you all know I've already been to the Designing Bond exhibition at the Barbican (see my review - Bond or Bust!) and I already know the words to the Skyfall theme song by Adele - I sound ok singing it, until I get to the high bits! My next Bond fix, before seeing the movie of course was to visit Harrods. I just couldn't wait to see what their window display wizards had come up with. Bond is a long running tradition at Harrods and their window displays have always held a magical quality for me in terms of their creativity, innovation and consistent ability to come up with hot, exciting images that engagingly tantalise, seduce the eyes and lure you into the store. The Skyfall windows didn't let me down. Mannequin envy took over as I walked past window after window of lounge suits, tuxedos and ridiculously beautiful gowns. My absolute favourite was the Bollinger sponsored window, featuring a red dress that was deliciously fabulous and so me, that I had to be forcibly torn away from it :0) Before I forget I have to give an honourable mention to the stunning Chanel No 5 window, just around the corner from the Bond windows. The Chanel No windows were gorgeous, featuring the iconic Chanel No 5 bottles, bathed in gold water and beautifully backlit - super classy. Overall, translating the high octane excitement of Skyfall could have been a tough call, but fortunately the Harrods window display team did it in style. read more

There are quite a few wonderful things about Harrod's, so I will just reflect on one. The total weirdness of a memorial to Princess Diane in the store. Harrod's is a legend, a beautiful place where you can get lost in the England of old, where me mum purchased my school uniform for Wangners Prep, where you can reflect on the whole "Princess Di" conspiracy.. tragic loss of life due to drunk driving, and indulge yourself with lovely treasures... Especially the Food Hall... Amazing.. I reflect on my visit every time I put my coffee spoon down in my Harrods spoon depository........good Lord... how freekin tourist is dat! A total Must stop while in London - This place is not just a store , it is an amusement park, the decor is gaudy and over the top in some places of the store, but you certainly have to appreciate the attention to detail. We ran into a couple of celebrities and even got a picture with Genevieve Gorder who at the time was pretty well know through her show trading spaces. The food hall is amazing, just about anything you want you can find here and let's not even begin with their tea selection. Harrods is a massive department store, and of all the department stores in the world, it must be one of the most worthwhile for tourists. If you are an oil billionaire, there are thousands of ways to dissipate your fortune, and if you are a normal traveler, the place is a veritable museum of extravagance. You can spend hours gawking at price tags. They are ludicrous. Take, for example, a men's Loro Piana sweater outwardly identical to one you can get at Banana Republic. Round neck, camel color, standard cut. Made, however, of the softest llama wool. Very nice, perhaps a bit too easy to put a hole in, £2,495. If that's a little steep for your tastes, you can get a lovely llama scarf for a reasonable £1,695. There's also a sizable section of antiques and a huge home decor area that features a gorgeous room dedicated to lighting fixtures. I fancied a £94,000 free-standing globe and a £96,000 chandelier, but couldn't bring myself to whip out the plastic. I can't imagine shopping at Harrods, but it really is a fun place. I'd suggest a thorough browse with a lengthy linger in the food halls for anyone passing through London. read more

Be prepared to get lost a little bit, and your feet will hurt from your four inch heels but you will press on through the different corridors with another surprising label behind each one. When you get to the shoes - don't faint. Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Chloe, Chanel, Giuseppe Zanotti, and Salvatore Ferragamo all live here. Just take a look, remember what you want, and pledge to buy it when you return to the US. The same exact pair, the same exact designer, will be slightly less expensive in New York. When you need to take a break from designer bliss, stop off at Veuve-Clicquot for their Foie Gras and champagne. What a refreshing and fabulously light lunch. You will be enamored by the food halls, and if you're unable to make decisions quickly and with precision, I suggest you avoid the food halls all together. They're somewhat overwhelming for anyone who wants to tote some treats home but just cannot decide what to get. Forget all the extravagant stores you think you've been to--yes even Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Those malls you think scream $$$ and luxury--Bloomingdales, Santana Row, etc. Forget about it. Harrods is on a level higher than all of that. This is the SPOT! If you want to go broke, or you have ridiculous amounts of money that needs to be wasted. They have so many of those expensive brands you see and hear about and wonder where you can get them, all inside this huge department store. They even have some fine food selections. If you want to shop ALL and I mean ALL the luxurious brands under one roof, just go to Harrods. MEN & WOMEN! Reviewers are funny and I guess thats why Elite reviews stand out more than regular ones. But to complain about price and knock off 2-3 stars because of it? I mean what were those people expecting? High end goods at Target/Goodwill/Walmart prices? You go in here, notice the brands, and expect a high pricetag. Should I go to McDonalds and expect 5 star fine dining? Shopping in the USA will never be the same again. read more
