Harrods is one of London's most high-end and prestigious department stores, founded in 1849, it still stands to this day in a stunning building on Knightsbridge, across seven floors. The store just looks and feels good to match the premium price-tag of almost everything in here including the popular Food Hall, and many places to eat/drink around the seven floors. I opted for Gordon Ramsay Burger, which looked a lot better than the overall experience was. (https://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/gordon-ramsay-burger-london) I do find the layout of the store to be a little hard to follow, I do feel they could have used the overhead signs better in that regard, especially considering the sheer size of the store over 7 floors. The store can get very busy, as it is not only a high-end department store, but has become an iconic shopping location, on a Sunday there always seems to be people queuing outside, way before browsing even opens, and no matter what time you visit it always seems you're packed into a lift like sardines, which stops on every single floor. If you're willing to spend money and you don't mind dealing with hoards of window shoppers and tourists, this is the place for you, as they have some great products from designer brands. With improved accessibility, and perhaps more staff around the main areas of the store, they could improve further. 4* read more

I've been visiting Harrods on and off for the past 10 years. It's just one of those magical places you have to go to when in London! Seriously, this place is like Hogwarts for adults!! As you enter and you go up the various escalators, you're instantly taken aback by the magnificent Egyptian decor. You can also buy pretty much anything in here, from toys to clothes, to food to electronics, they have it all! I recently checked out the gadgets section and they had so many cool electric scooters and bikes. If you're into designer brands, they also have a Louis Vuitton store, and various other big brand names. The door staff at Harrods also make me smile, when you approach the doors, they'll open them and give you a friendly smile as you enter. Less than helpful experience at Harrod's shoe department. Having wanted to purchase Gianvito Rossi pumps, I asked for them in white, suede nude, and suede black. The short white male that was working did not ask if we needed help, instead we had to approach him to ask for the shoes after several minutes of waiting. He then proceeded to send the request to his co-worker, who brought out the wrong shoe entirely. They went back to obtain the right shoe only to let me know that my size wasn't available. A complete waste of time and felt dismissed by the "Shoe Heaven" department. Thumbs down. read more

If this place doesn't have it, do you really need it? Do you? Do you, really? Yes, this place is brimming with glittering baubles, sumptuous fabrics, and chic footwear (all with customarily eye-watering price tags), but that's not even the best part. Harrod's is equipped with a butcher shop, a deli, a fishmonger, a chocolatier, a tea shop, at least a half-dozen restaurants and cafes and an ice cream parlor. If you have the money, they literally have everything you need. The "gift-shop" was by far my favourite part. It was the size of an average retailer in its own right and contained a fabulous (and much more reasonably priced) array of foodstuffs, stationery, golf gifts, purse and wallets, "luxury" soaps and lotions, aprons and potholders, bone china tea cups, Christmas ornaments, and all kinds of other lovely Harrod's branded items. This is a playground for the moneyed, yes, but a sight to see in London no matter what your budget. read more

This may be the most luxurious department store I have ever been in, but it was so crowded and chaotic! We made the mistake of going to Harrods on a Sunday afternoon and I felt like we were stuck in a herd of cattle. We could barely push our son's stroller through the massive crowds of shoppers. The elevator was a nightmare because so many people that could have used the escalator insisted on using the elevator instead. There weren't many maps in Harrods so we found it very difficult to locate anything. We found it a bit comical that even the employees couldn't give us directions when we asked which floor the champagne bar was on. When we finally found the champagne bar we realized that there were no open seats. If you have a stroller you will need to leave it outside the restaurants because they are too cramped. We didn't feel comfortable leaving our expensive Bugaboo stroller unsupervised so we ended up dining outside of Harrods. I was extremely impressed with the nursing room once we finally located it in the children's clothing section. Every department store should offer this amenity! The nursing room included a comfortable leather recliner chair, changing table, and sink. The Christmas display at Harrods was stunning, but I wish we visited on a weekday to possibly avoid the weekend shopping crowd. read more

Everyone visiting London should go to Harrods. It's such a touristy thing to do but why else are we visiting right? Of course they house the top of the top name brands and it's quite an experience. They also house a florist and the flowers were such a delight to see. The layout is something I've never seen before for a department store. I wish I'd gone to Harrods sooner in my London trip so I could've gone multiple times, or spent more time there before it closed, or explored more! I was just floored by how large it is. If you want to kill an afternoon, come to Harrods. You could spend hours in the book section, in the candy/chocolate section, in the technology section, and in the Millionaire Gallery alone. That, of course, isn't all, however! They have clothes, handbags, makeup and skincare, and everything a typical department store would have, as well as a food court, afternoon tea, and more. And yet? Harrods is so much more than a typical department store! The service is wonderful, the selection is top-notch, the building design and interior and exterior and decorations are inimitable, and the presentation and goods are high-quality. Souvenirs aren't cheap here but I can't imagine bringing anything back for best friends and my parents from anywhere else. They deserve the best and that's what Harrods is. read more

Harrods at Christmas time is one of the most beautiful buildings in London. The bright-bulbed lights make the store visible for blocks and oh-so Christmas-y. We stop by here every time we're in London, as it's one of those places that make you feel like you're in a magical, rom-com movie. The inside of the store is stunning too and is a fun place to roam, and they have beautiful displays everywhere. The store is located in the Chelsea neighborhood, which means there are also other beautiful stores, restaurants and town homes lining the street. Definitely take a stroll! read more

12/07/2018: Well-I did it~I bought the Diptyque DoSon parfum set plus, I bought two of the DoSon solid parfum lasting at least, a couple of years. Ironically, I reported Neiman Marcus nor Bloomingdales carried the purse-size DoSon parfum for traveling a week and a half ago before leaving San Francisco CA; however and to my utter delight, Harrods had one DoSon gift set left (phew~) which I immediately purchased plus, I had purchased one solid parfum while the Diptyque Concierge had to locate one more solid not on display nor stored in their cabinetry. I never checked Space NK but, I'm sure I'll return checking out their products which is literally across a walkway from Harrods. Meanwhile, I visited the VAT located on the third floor; apparently, I guess I'll receive a tax refund for purchasing Diptyque's DoSon when I leave UK. Incidentally, I perused Harrods' wine collection: Humorously, the cost purchasing wines from Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino Counties in NorCal are FIVE TIMES more expensive purchasing at Harrods. LOL~I'm so blessed I live in NorCal where I buy wines directly from the Vineyards anytime and at the Vineyards' COSTS . . . The Moet Chandon-lol~I just giggled the cost purchasing the champagne when I saw the same bottle at Moet Chandon via Yountville CA AND COSTCO! Ha-hah-ha! Comparatively, apples to oranges, Harrods is similar to Neiman Marcus; however, Harrods' inventory is five times more than Neiman Marcus. Regardless, Harrods had what I wanted whereas ALL USA's high-end retailers do not have inventory the specific items I wanted from Diptyque's product lines. In addition, I ate a shrimp and salmon salad at Harrods' Deli: The salad wasn't really delicious-it was too bland but, I ate it due to not eating breakfast. Moreover, the pink lemonade I ordered didn't taste fresh so, the salad and the pink lemonade equals about 2-1/2 to 3-stars, i.e., MEH-boring. I think the Greek salad from Charcoal Meze was 1000% more flavorful than the boring salad I ate a Harrods' Deli, i.e., I'll pass eating the Deli's salad-forever. BTW: I took the Bus #148 to Hyde Park in order, arriving at Harrods strolling towards Knightsbridge; however, upon returning, the Knightsbridge TUBE platform was packed like sardines; I remember seeing a deja vu scene I saw while riding at the Tokyo Subway where the security guards were shoving, jamming people inside the trains! As a result, the Tube Employee inform me the Jubilee line will not stop at Green Park: Trains, busses, and jogging finding reliable transportation returning to where I'm staying was an incredulous feat! read more

FANCY!! I've heard of this shopping Mecca since I can remember and it definitely didn't disappoint. I must say, store employees were all top notch, friendly and professional. Each employee I encountered in their respective sections, knew about their products and steered me to specific things I was looking for. Aside from that, the reason why we all come here, is for the shopping. It was floor after floor of high end wear and beautiful displays. I marveled at the famous escalators and over the top Egyptian themed decor. It felt like walking through a museum and not a department store. And even the elevators were gorgeous. I would hate to be that person that needs to polish the cab and the interior. Impressive and over the top... I loved that there was no line for the elevator either. Unlike the American versions of a high end department store, this one was orderly and just grand on every scale. I only concentrated mainly on the Harrod's Shopping area, yes, their own labeled and branded goods; had it's own wing on one floor. And I took my kids to the toy department, naturally. We shopped for about an hour and the rest of the time was getting on a line to do the VAT tax Free shopping paperwork. This particular department was a well run machine! You're supposed to go there with all your receipts to get the stamps and paperwork in order to claim the UK tax. You don't get it on the spot but there's paperwork to get you prepped for it. Serious business shopping here! All in all, this is a must see. If not for the shopping, then go for Afternoon Tea or hit one of the many restaurants and dessert stations. Harrods is more than a fancy department store - it's an icon of London, a tourist destination in itself, a symbol of Englishness, like Macy's is for New York City or Galeries Lafayette is for Paris. It doesn't matter if you're going to buy something there or not, you just have to go and see it just as you would Big Ben (or the Eiffel Tower or the Empire State Building)! The building itself is massive and impressive, looking more like a museum than a department store. But of course, it's so hard to resist buying "some thing" as there is so much to browse and desire! For us, the food halls were a huge attraction, not only to gnosh on something, but also simply to take back with us to the States (like some high-end loose-leaf first-flush Darjeeling tea at 20₤/100 g), or the pastries, or chocolates, or even (most impractically for a tourist) the spanking fresh seafood! Fortunately, you can sample these at the numerous dining counters that will serve at least some of these up as a snack or meal. Disclaimer: I am an American tourist, so my opinion will differ from locals. While visiting London, an Uber driver described Harrods as a "more posh Macy's"... THIS IS NOTHING LIKE MACY'S. To compare it to Macy's is almost an insult. Let's get one thing straight - I'm the type of person who doesn't like shopping or visiting a mall/department while I'm traveling out of town. I don't even bother with outlets, and I think the only time I'll make that exception is when there's no sales tax. Because at some point, all malls/dept stores look the same... even the fancy ones in LA, NYC, SF, Manila, etc... I've seen my fair share. Yes, this department store has the luxurious brands of Chanel, Yves St Laurent, Hermes, etc. It's similar to a Nordstrom or Bloomindale's where each brand has its own little section. It's all tidy and well-kept, and there are attendants ready at every turn to assist you in and attempt to make a sale. But what makes this place impressive... is the food emporium. There's a different rooms for the bakery, seafood, meat, candies, etc. The decor is very pretty for each room, especially the paintings on the ceilings. I enjoyed just browsing and looking at the impressive displays of candies, chocolate, and pastries. The cakes are especially pretty to admire. Their chocolate section is quite good! I bought a white chocolate with dried berries in it - not too sweet, just right. There are counter style restaurants in the store that have some great looking menus (lots of people eating too, which was a good sign) that range from Asian, pub food, raw seafood bar, and afternoon tea. Didn't get to try them, but will partake in the future. They do have a deli section where you can buy some food to go - I bought 2 Scotch eggs which were quite delicious (I may be biased because Scotch eggs aren't common in America). Seriously, this is a department store worth stopping by if you're visiting London, especially if you're trying to escape the cold / rain while walking around. Dare I say I was unimpressed with Harrods...? How dare I? Right? But really it wasn't all that I'd imagined. I thought I'd spend a lot of money here but other than their designer areas (where mind you, you can purchase anywhere in the world) I found a lot of their products to be rubbish. It seemed like they took any possible item and branded it with their name to sell. These items did not appear to be quality. What I do always love from Harrods is their annual bear and boy is he cute! They went the Chef route in honor of their very popular Food Halls. Genius, really! I love cooking and baking and eating so if I were to have purchased anything at all it would have been him but I didn't because I didn't want to smash him into my suitcase when I can order online and have him shipped if I really need a stuffed animal from Harrods. I did peruse the food halls where several items caught my eye but since I wasn't coming here to shop to bring home and cook or to eat at the moment, nothing really stood out to purchase and fly home to the states. The one item I did purchase were chocolates and truffles from Charbonnel et Walker. The sea salt caramel truffles and billionaire shortbread truffles are devine. I'd say this is the only real highlight of the store. I would have stopped in for tea, but the line was quite long and I wanted to be on my way. I may have enjoyed taking in the view from across the street in the rain after dark, admiring the beauty of their lit up exterior as the cars drove by more than the actual product and shopping experience inside the store. Opulence incarnate, this place will make you feel like a millionaire/ billionaire just for walking in here, even if you aren't one. The fanciness will make you feel like you should have dressed up, but fear not; tourists are more than welcome, even if they aren't buying anything. There are 6 six floors to explore in this veritable palace and you'll probably want to see all of it, so come at least a few hours before closing time. Every floor has its own theme, from furniture stores to toy shops and everything in between; and every single thing in here will cost you an arm and a leg. I do love perusing the £1,000 men's and women's clothing lines and sitting in those opulent faux living rooms, but my favorite part of this whole shopping center has to be the food halls- not the overpriced restaurants, the food halls. There are about 3 different halls where you can buy delicious pre-made foods and baked delicacies with a fine French twist in every bite. They have a coffee bar in the center of one where you can stand in the queue for half an hour to sample one of their pastries and enjoy a high-quality cup o' joe. Take-home roasts are also available from the roasters, as well as teas and other pantry goods. And don't even get me started on the chocolate section. Truffles galore, ranging from just about any flavor you can imagine, and a gorgeous presentation to boot. And if you can believe it, they also have a fresh food section where you can buy fruits, vegetables, dairy, fine cheeses, and superb cuts of meat to take home with you and make a 5-star course. Given that I'm not a millionaire, I won't be spending £700 on a bag I can get much cheaper elsewhere, nor do I need the validation that buying something from here would get me. However, as someone who does enjoy the finer things in life along with the more modest virtues, I don't think there's anything wrong with seeing the world through different eyes, once in a while. And given that this is a veritable Disneyland for shoppers, you can't enjoy much better than this. read more

Wow! What an amazing place. Even though I didn't buy a thing, this place was like a fashion heaven and I could have walked around for hours looking at all the high end designers. I had no idea that I could appreciate designer fashion so much but I was in awe as I went from designer to designer looking at all the in trends right now. Plan for a few hours and get lost in it all. You will never see such a collection anywhere else. The money that must be exchanged in here is MIND BLOWING! I had this on my list of places to visit while in London since its known to be the biggest department store....I went onto their website a few days before and had some things picked out that I wanted to get as souvenirs. I also saw that my daughter could see Santa while there....how cool is that, despite her knowing the Santa truth now which makes me sad, we could see Santa while in London of all places, RIGHT!? WRONG!!! Upon walking into this place you could see how expensive this visit could potentially become. Not completely sure the thought process of the layout of the store but one could easily get lost going around. My shopping list turned to CRAP because I could not find any of the Harrod's wallets...only the more expensive name brand wallets, etc. Santa idea also went to CRAP --- followed all the signage to Santa's Grotto and was sooo excited....to only get up there and find that it's by appointment only....and when my hubs pulled information up on his phone about it, we find out that it's not like the US Santa packages where you can just visit Santa and pay for the picture package....here you had to spend $2K in store to go into the Santa Grotto. Are you kidding me!! WOW....talk about taking the Christmas spirit and turning it into purely a profit scheme for your company. OUTRAGEOUS. Why don't you have a Santa available for the families that don't want or can't spend $2K in your store? I mean this would help in appealing to the tourists as well, who, like me, was all set to see Santa in London which is a place on my bucket list and could've been into something that we could've treasured. I mean it's not everyday you get to visit the Jolly Guy in another country. My daughter did end up getting some sour candies from the candy area and we did end up eating at an overpriced Chinese restaurant within the department store....but this place is just sooooo large. If you're into shopping then I recommend you visiting, otherwise if you're like me where you want to find what's on your list and get out, this is not the place for you. All I can say is wow! This place is something to witness and see while visiting London. Not only is it without a doubt the biggest luxury department store in the world and blows away all of 5th avenue and Rodeo drive, it is a culmination of luxury goods all in one place on 10 floors. It sits in the luxury district in Kensington London and is unreal to see. IT is laid out by designer and contains pretty much every luxury designer you can think of from Hermes to Louis Vuitton and more. During our trip to London, one must take a stroll through the beautiful retail maze that is Harrods. I didn't know what to expect, I half thought that it would be the size of your typical Nordstrom or Bloomingdales, but I was wrong, it's the size of a small mall! NOTE: Do not bring in beverages or anything that can possibly stain any of the thousand dollar clothing and handbags, we were told to finish our drinks before entering. They mean serious business! After scarfing down our hot drinks, my husband and I re-entered Harrods, I felt my jaw drop, it's the most grandiose retailer ever! They give you a map as soon as you walk in which is pretty nerve wrecking, you literally need to spend a whole day maybe more to explore it all. There is a memorial for the late Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed through the Egyptian stairway. I cried as I wrote my goodbyes to them. There you'll find a life sized statue of the two, along with their photos and engagement ring. Other than the memorial, one of my favorite places in Harrods has to be the food hall, specifically the sweets room. A sales associate was providing samples of their famous chocolate dusted almonds, I should have bought some but I ended up purchasing chocolates for my mom, myself and some tea for my dad! Great buy, I think it was all under 25 pounds. Service wise, employees are super friendly and not in the overly friendly sales person vibe but just genuinely wanting to help. In cosmetics I had forgotten to pack my Anastasia dipbrow and I asked if they had an Anastasia in the store, she wasn't sure so she took us to their customer service area to get clarification. I got lost here just looking around even with a map, after just looking through the store we ended up on the exit on the opposite end of the entrance we were just in. It was great :) read more

I thought this place was okay. There are a lot of high end items. In fact, the entire store oozes luxury. I was surprised to see so many affluent people come here to buy fancy bags, jewelry, and etc. When you walk around London, you see a lot of people living on the streets. I guess it is kind of a disconnect coming here and going out into reality. I understand that this is a luxury store so I don't really ding it for what it is. However, I was a little unimpressed with this place because they had no places to sit down and eat. We wanted to buy food from their deli area but you can't really sit and enjoy their historic space. Instead, everything is takeaway. It is such a shame that they don't have a food hall sit down area where you can take the food purchased there to eat fresh. Instead, you either have to buy something at their restaurant to be able to find seating. Maybe this is a cultural misunderstanding since in the U.S. there are plenty of seating at a mall court. I guess I don't quite understand because if you buy food there, shouldn't they provide the space to eat there? It seems like a natural expectation. read more

Not really much more needs to be said :) We went on a Saturday morning before our flight and it was really crowded. However, it added to the atmosphere. Yeah, sure the reputation of this iconic shopping Mecca is world known. People from round the glob come here to ogle and purchase items both luxurious and prosaic. After my 10th time in this store I have one point only of advice for you: Food Court. Browse. Salivate. Purchase nibbles. Sit at the champagne counter. Go ahead try some caviar. Then move to the next station. Spanish tapas, yep. Japanese sushi, sure. French foie gras, let's not overdo it. This is a tasting tour not a gluttony festival. The food area at Selfridge's is also quite impressive but not as traditional in atmosphere as Harrord's. read more

This place is insane. Seriously, a crazy maze of too much money and extravagance. There's really no way of describing how to get anywhere in this jungle of a building. Harrods is set up like most department stores, where each brand gets a section, and even though the building is a large rectangle, it's separated by walls and walkways that only take you to certain parts of the floor and to certain elevators, but not the other sections of the floor. You'll have to navigate a bunch of dead ends and circles in order to get to the outer or central (middle) elevators. There's some sort of numbering system for the different sections of each floor, but I've no idea how they link up with each other. Brands- lots of brands. They have areas for jewelry, shoes, toys, casual wear, and up up up scale shopping. An interesting and stupid luxury would be a cell phone section where they sell some weird 'high end' cell phones, I think based on cars? Or some other brand that I've never heard of. On one of the lower floors, there's an open area of food, which was fun to walk around. There's a patisserie that had really good cupcakes, but that's pretty much all I remember. The place is worth a look, but it'll burn up some serious time. There are a lot of floors, and all of them are confusing and expensive. read more

I went there on Good Friday afternoon (around 14:00). It was way too crowded to walk around this place. There were too many people everywhere and it was hard to see things. Is it always like that or was it busy because of Good Friday? I bought a couple eco bags as souvenirs and left. I don't need to go back there anymore. read more

I absolutely loved this place. If you're from NY- I'm going to say this is a very bougie version of SAKS Fifth Ave- but that's also an understatement. Every encounter we had here, no matter what store, restaurant, or salon, was impeccable. Everyone's service was superb- it was impressive! The elevators were decorated so nicely and really fun to take selfies in lol. I think my favorite section was the technology space where they had a ton of creative stuff to decorate your home or office with. My second favorite were the restaurants and dessert spaces. They were decorated so nicely and the presentation of our desserts were so pretty I felt so bad eating it. In addition to that, the view of the city from the top floor was so nice! This was by far the best department store I have ever visited. I will definitely be back! read more

selling rotten chocolates and no refund because they was not returned in 14 days but sold with a 3 month sell by date on receiving sent me a box of chocolates paid £100 i left them stored away i opened them 40 days later. the chocolates was white off color and looked mouldy. the sell by date was only 3 months with 22 days left ?? this is the reply i got from Harrods after sending countless pictures. im disgusted. Harrods is a must stop when in London. Whether you are intending to spoil yourself; or just do some insane window shopping, you must stop here. I think a lot of times people get scared away by the glitz and glamour, but Harrods does also offer relatively affordable items as well. For example, if you are looking for unique and delicious treats to take back home from your trip, I would suggest coming here! Harrods has a tremendous candy and treat section and they always have items on clearance, but their chocolates and unique items are just to die for. If you are a bit tea fan, I also recommend spending some time here as they have similar items to what you will find at Heathrow, but a bit cheaper. Their Fortnum Mason selection of chocolates in beautiful boxes make for great gifts! If you know Heathrow much, you know you can get these last minute gifts at the airport. But why do that when you can experience Harrods and get some samples! I also love the " food court" here. To be clear, it's not anything like a " food court" in the states. It's very upscale, but you gets some amazing selections. If you are feeling like you need a break from all the shopping, you can stop and get some caviar and bubbles. Or if you're wanting something a bit more filling, they have a great steak bar where you can get a delicious steak or a burger. If you are a BIG shopping fan like me, I would highly suggest giving yourself ample time to come here and really wander through all the floors. I have been here right at opening time, middle of the day, right before close, and I always feel like I needed more time. Opening time is probably best so you can work up an appetite. If you come during the holidays they have the cutest setup with lights so it's a great place for pictures. Their purse and show sections are my two faves. They have such unique designs from well known high end designers, but items that you may not have ever seen. If you want to really treat yourself, this is the right place to drop $$$ on unique items. read more
