This is quite literally the worst Harris Teeter in Williamsburg considering customer service. I'm glad I moved to another side of town because every time I used to come here and when I do come here frequently it's like I feel if I'm not a old white lady I'm not gonna be treated with respect when I ask a question it's like I'm bothering them to do something when I'm standing at the register trying to get help they're huddled in the corner chatting and gossiping. It's a ongoing thing. It's just all the time and I'm just tired of it management to do something about that I was sitting there trying to get help Just now and the ladies wouldn't even dad and I and there's two people on the self check out with three customers checking out it's just pathetic. You guys have a lot of training to do. You should most likely get your training from the other Harris Teeter's in Williamsburg do better. read more

Same great HT selection and safe/clean environment in a city away from home. While out of town on a work trip, I had to make a late night "personal hygiene" run synonymous with being a dad of teen daughters. This was the closest store open late within proximity to Kingsmill; plenty of parking in the adequately lit lot. Though there was a skeleton crew and maybe 2 other shoppers present, the store had a similar look and feel as my usual HT in Norfolk. Like home, it had a bakery capable of cranking out fresh sweets and a pizza shop along with sub sandwich counter equipped to serve made to order pizzas and subs, before 7pm of course. It also had public, gender specific restrooms and a Starbucks in store. Unlike home, this location had a gas station on premises. You gotta love the VIC card perk that provides additional savings on rotating sale items on top of their corporate policy to double coupons up to $0.99, not that I had any. Don't have the VIC card with you at (self) checkout? Select alternate id then type in your phone number and you're good to go. As a huge bonus, all of your purchases translate into gas savings of up to $1.00 off per gallon. read more

I really like HT generally for its quality, selection and cleanliness. Their house made baked goods are surprisingly good (expensive though). There are usually lots of employees busily working away, but still pleasant and helpful. My one caveat... What happened to live staffing on the registers? The last time I was in HT there was one staffed register with a line stretching down an isle. I pushed on to the self checkout, only to look to my left to see that I was cutting into TWO lines of shoppers (semi-angrily) waiting. I always spend my time in the self checkout line trying to work out the cost/benefit of having five employees assisting shoppers (buying wine, weighing produce, not properly placing items in the bagging area and generally just not trained to work in a grocery store), as opposed to staffing a few more registers. Also, it seems that half the people in line have under four items, while the other half are shopping for the week with four crazy children in tow. Have mercy! At the very least add a live check out for anyone with only a bottle if wine, a pint of ice-cream and a frozen dinner. I dream of one day meeting a grocery store executive who can explain these concepts to me. read more

This is our go-to local grocery store. The check-out people are friendly and really seem to enjoy being there. The sushi is top notch! Freshly made in-store. If your favorite type of sushi isn't available, just ask and the sushi chefs will fix it for you while you continue shopping. The organic produce section has a wide variety of options. However, our favorite items are often out of stock. Probably a supply issue, but thought I'd mention it. read more

The pharmacy here leaves a lot to be desired. Previously have used Harris Teeter in another state for over 7 years with excellent results. Can't say the same about this place. Found the pharmacy staff to be rude and condescending. Was just told that my order was put back on the shelf since I hadn't picked it up in two weeks. Found this hard to believe since I just phoned the refill in a day ago. Bold face lie. Thinking seriously of switching my pharmacy to Publix instead. read more

I purchased two lottery tickets last week and used the ATM beside the lottery machine. I got distracted and left the lottery tickets in the machine. Two days later I went to the customer service desk and said " I have a stupid question, did anyone turn in two lottery tickets?" Can you believe an employee turned them in. Seriously, do not come here with intent of spending more than $50. I have been here 11am, 1pm, 6pm on Friday and there has been no checkout clerk. You can self checkout but if you have more than 3 small plastic bags worth of stuff the machine requires assistance which is not around at all.. They also shut down their seafood and meat section by no later than 5:30 pm. I'm sure the people thAt work there love the gig but multiple locals have made the switch to other Harris teeters or other stores and it's rightfully justified. Last time in there the self checkout stalled and rather than check me out; the staff made me go to another self checkout! I do not get a paycheck nor benefits from this company yet have checked myself out every time for over 5 years. No more! Publix on Monticello has equal quality, better prices, and does not make you work for them. **EDIT** Got mozzarella cheese from here a week ago and it was clearly spoiled. I shopped at 630 on a weekend night so still in prime time. Only one selection of that cheese at it was very clearly spoiled. Huge selection of items, great staff, and very clean. Prices are reasonable and have plenty of items to purchase hot and cold food on top of the groceries. They also have a gas station a few parking spaces back from the entrance of the store. Overall very clean and well worth coming back to. read more

Amazing customer service! The deli/bakery department failed to prepare part of an order that I had phoned in several days earlier. The department manager and a woman, who appeared to work at the store management level, went above and beyond to make up for the error. I was left speechless by how apologetic and accommodating they were! Great grocery store, owned by the Kroger Co. Great produce section anything you need. Great deli with Deli that serves Boars head Meats. One night they were preparing a fresh cook lobster boil. We got take out pizza from them that was very good. Full General Merchandise side they had a full aisle of dog/cat food. Where they shine is customer service. I was out of town and they have a loyalty program for the specials and they a special code for me instead of just filling out the paperwork for a week. The checkout folks are very smart, helpful and talkative. Wish we had one in Arkansas. read more

I went to purchase 4 sodas -- they were advertised all over the store 4 / $ 10.00 When I checked out - the receipt indicated they rang up for $4.99 each- I pointed this out the cashier who had no clue how to handle the matter. He contacted a customer service person Jenna Lynn -- she had no clue how to handle it either & said she would give me $5.00 back. When I pointed out that this did not correct the problem because they had charged me 2x's the correct amount -- so they owed me $25.0 x 4 = $10.00 Jenna Lynn sneered -- claimed she'd made a mistake -- and then with dripping sarcasm told me to "have a nice day" -- so insincere and so disingenuous. Now one can expect an adult working in a grocery store with access to a digital screen could figure out that $5.00 is 2x's $2.50 and if they overcharged for 4 items that would be 2.50 x 4 = $10.00 -- so either Jenna lynn was lying or she was so clueless that she should demand a refund from her education. Of course -- this is not the first time there has been a problem at this Harris teeter -- they seem to hire the rudest , laziest and snarkiest individuals they can find Avoid them. read more

I'm a Harris Teeter junkie, it's pretty embarrassing actually but it definitely one of the best chains in the HR region, even if this particular location is in Williamsburg. This store is located near Kings Mill Resort so you can only imagine the type of snotty people who frequent the store, ha. But that's okay, they go here for a reason. Lots of parking in this area and the outside of the store as well as the inside is kept clean the times I've been there. This store is 24/7 and runs a breakfast buffet until 6am to 9am-ish. They also have an Asian inspired buffet and Southern one as well. I love the Tofu here...I'm that weirdo that buys Chinese take-out food at a grocery store, I know...lame! Anyway, theres a good sized produce section with a couple of decent amount of Vegan/Vegetarian packaged products like cheeses, fake meats and condiments. They also have seasonal produce items and rarer produce like starfruit, dragon fruit, Buddha's Hand and Pepinos ( I know my produce!). The Seafood Market is pretty good too, they run specials and have some good catfish fillets here. The bakery is alright, they have many kinds of breads and pastries but I think the Fresh Market has them beat in this department despite Harris Teeter's larger selection. Like others have stated this place has a great wine selection and feature local wines and beers as well. The beer selection is standard with a couple local brews. I can't speak on their meat department because I do not shop for those items but I would imagine it just as good as their seafood. They have many aisles dedicated to frozen and processed foods with some international fare and natural. Honestly, I could critique and explain everything this store has to offer and how much better it is than Martin's or Wally World or Food Lion but I don't want to write a mini bible. So, overall I am obviously a fan. I like this location rather than the NN one because of the better customer service and mature clientele. The selection and quality is better and you may pay more but I don't mind because it is worth it. Like most HT this one has a Starbucks with nice staff members too. I didn't mention this but they make pizza here and it's very yummy...see I told you I could keep going. Just go here for a hassle-free, clean and quality shopping experience. Compared to other grocery stores around the area, this Harris Teeter location is absolutely terrible. When I visited the store at 11PM 11/13/12, I was received with terrible customer service from the only cashier. She had no hint of even a smile and it was clear to me she did not want to be there. It wasn't until I said "Hi" that she acknowledged my presence. I gave a friend a ride who also needed to buy groceries but happened to be under 21. When I tried to purchase a wine, this cashier rudely would not let me as my friend who was buying her own separate groceries was underaged. To top it off, as soon as I left earshot the cashier gossiped with a coworker (judging by the glances they were talking about me). On another note, this Harris Teeter is NOT friendly towards college students and I highly recommend college students avoiding this store. Prices are noticeably higher from food to alcohol compared to Food Lion/Martins/Trader Joes. read more

Visiting Williamsburg as a Thanksgiving weekend tourist, we preordered the Thanksgiving Day full dinner for 4-6 people. We REALLY wanted it to be wonderful. It wasn't. I have just moved close to Harris Teeter, and was excited about shopping there, given its reputation. I think I was expecting something like Wegman's. What a disappointment. The store is smallish but pleasant enough, with all the basics available. However, the vegetables..... I was appalled at the condition of every veg I picked up. Potatoes, onions, cucumber.... all were soft and not at all fresh. It was a great surprise, and certainly put me off going back. read more

I had not been to HT in a while because of the hassle to get checked out. Well I stopped on my way home to pick up just a few things. Noticed that prices had gone up quite a bit. Ithought about the hot bar, but most of it looked dry and not appetizing. Decided didn't need it, so took my three items and went to the checkout and waited. Then I waited so more. I had to check to see if perhaps I was at Food Lion! After waiting some more I decided didn't need what was in my little basket. Too many options for me to get what I want or need. I hope this is not an indication that HT is going the way of Martin's. read more

A great grocery store with a nice selection of products, better than average atmosphere, reasonable prices, handy location, and terrific staff. The pharmacy, deli, and produce are especially good, the pharmacy staff is helpful and very quick to assist in dealing with insurance company rules and regulations, they are extra-nice people. Staff and management of the entire store are eager to help, friendly, and cooperative. The store itself was initially pricey, but prices have come down, and they now regularly have really excellent sales with deeply cut prices on items most people would regularly buy. They are also responsive to suggestions and criticisms. Terrific place to shop. read more
