I get take out catfish every time I see it practically. I was here once before, a few years back, and generally had a favorable impression of the food and value. Most places I get a "small catfish dinner" which pretty universally consists of 3 fish filets, fries, and a piece of white bread or roll. Not so at Harold's today. Including tax, over $14 for the "small" which in their minds, is one small filet of fish along with the fries, a slab of white bread on the bottom to soak up all the grease. But the flavor was still good. I just feel a little cheated on the quantity. Another quirk, both times I've been, they don't have tartar sauce or lemon available for the fish. They offer "mild or hot" sauce, ketchup, or ranch. Neither of those choices appealed to me. I'm a pretty regular fish customer at Franks in Hoffman Estates, or Chums in Algonquin. Listen, in Nashville you're bound to wait an hour for your order to come out, so 20 minutes for piping hot & fresh fried chicken I can do. If you know that's going to happen going in, you'll have a much better experience. They have a sign saying it takes 20 minutes plus when ordering tell you it will be 20 minutes, so all is known pre-ordering. The chicken itself is so succulent & moist, done so perfectly well with a thing breading on the outside. I could honestly do with a slightly better crisp or deep fry on the outside but that glistening white meat inside more than made up for any shortcomings of the skin. I did the tenders and man were they good with the signature Harold's mild sauce on top. Their mild sauce doesn't have any spice to it, just tangy, sweet goodness. The 6 piece order was insanely huge for me and came with a generous heaping of fries & small portion of coleslaw. Yep, it's enough for my lunch and dinner for $9. Both staff working were friendly, informative and even brought our food out to our table! Greetings in and out the door!
