I still really enjoy Julie's massages but she asks me lots of questions about my weight, my losing weight, how her other clients have lost weight and relationship status, if I want kids... I know it's coming from a good place but I don't need a side of body-shaming and single shaming along with my massage. read more

Booked for a Noon appointment on a Sunday. I got a text message at 10:00am from the therapist saying she "forgot her keys" to the studio. That she would have to drive 70 minutes to go back and get them. Most businesses should have a spare key somewhere, wouldn't you think? Won't book here again. read more

Julie is amazing. I just got home from my massage and I already want to go back. I called Julie to book a next-day appointment, and she was very accommodating and quick to respond. To be honest, I was drawn to the $20 discount that's offered when booking online. Even though I didn't book online, Julie was kind enough to honor the deal. A regular 1-hour massage is $80, so the discount brings the price down to a very reasonable $60. Credit card is taken, but cash is preferred. Julie has managed to create a very relaxing environment in a small and humble space. The place doesn't look like much when you first walk in, but the massage rooms are well-kept. There is a small, partitioned area where you can change, which thoughtfully has a hanger, hair ties, and even some candy. As for the massage itself, it was perfect. Julie used the exact amount of pressure to loosen my knots without putting me in intense pain. I asked her to focus on a few specific areas and she definitely followed through. She was careful to always make sure that the pressure was ok and that I was comfortable. I especially loved the scalp massage! Some additional perks: FREE aromatherapy and hot stones! For aromatherapy, you can choose from scents that include lavender, eucalyptus, jasmine, lemongrass, and more. Julie then mixes the essential oil into your massage cream. Overall, I had a great experience here. Julie is kind and skilled and the price is right. I'll definitely be coming back. read more

I love Julie! She helped me out a lot during my last pregnancy. I started going to her once a month at the start of my third trimester. At the very end, I was seeing her every two weeks. That was the only way for me to get some relief from my neck and shoulder pain. I am truly grateful for all her help! read more

Julie is amazing. I have been going to her for a few months now, and her massages always make me feel good. I initially sought her out just to help fix a stiff neck, but I had such a good experience that I started getting massages from her every 2 weeks. She is very friendly and accommodating. I love that I can schedule appointments online at my convenience rather than having to call during office hours. She uses some kind of cream instead of oil for the massage, which I prefer because it doesn't feel as slippery. She also wipes off the cream with a hot towel once she is done, which I particularly like. Btw, hot stones don't cost extra so I suggest asking for that if you can handle the heat and want extra relaxation. I highly recommend Julie for people looking for a good massage in San Mateo. Parking is easy and free too, which makes it more convenient than the ones closer to downtown San Mateo. read more

Julie at Harmony Massage in San Mateo consistently gives me an outstanding massage each and every time I visit. I've had massages for 40 plus years but Julie's is the best by far. I also love that the studio is so private, quiet and peaceful (no background noise from a reception area or other workers milling about). Also, I was able to get the massage on a Sunday! read more

Julie has been my absolute favorite discovery since moving to the Bay Area 3 years ago. I'm ashamed it took me this long to write this review! Booking is so easy, the studio is quiet, private and comfortable, and the service is something I look forward to every month. Julie does actual magic for my back--AND she lets you choose the scent of your essential oil. The best part is the super reasonable price, which allows me to go regularly. Cannot wait to go back! read more

I randomly found Harmony Massage and I'm so glad I did!! I admit the $20 off scheduling online for new client definitely caught my attention to give Julie a try. Lets just get to it, Julie is AMAZING!!! she's great and knows EXACTLY what she's doing. She is attentive and ensures to focus on all problematic areas. I've seen her a handful of times already and her magical hands helped relieve a lot of my tensed areas (neck and lower back) Her rates are reasonable and also the location is not hard to get to with a private lot too! read more

I have been going to see Julie for half a year now! Once I found Julie, I am now not able to switch! Julie has magic hands and she really knows how body works. I even tried acupunctures afterwards but still have to go back to see her. She is always very patient and never rushes me even when I was late for a couple of times. I was out of the country for a bit and definitely felt discomfort in my back without Julie! Oh, did I mention that Julie offers hot stone treatment for free? She really cares about your wellbeing and focus on how she can help. I would highly recommend anyone to see her - her studio only accept ladies though! read more

I've been to Julie's twice now and I really need to make this a regular thing since I often have tense muscles from my work habits. She is an amazing masseuse and I feel like she actually recognizes your problematic areas. The massage is extremely relaxing and I can feel the results right away. I appreciate the use of aromatherapy oil and the hot stones (no extra cost!). I highly recommend Julie to anyone looking for a professional massage therapist!!! read more

I bookmarked this place when it came across as a "hot and new" business on Yelp last year and finally got to try it out. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by every aspect of it. Scheduling: A breeze with the website and new clients get $20 off their first appointment! Location: I was a little confused on this part as it's inside a yoga studio and the yoga studio keeps their doors locked during class. PRO tip - there's a side entrance around the corner that will lead you straight there (head toward suite 201 and veer right). Consultation: Prior to the actual massage, Julie asked me where I'd like her to focus (any pain points, full body vs. partial body) and what type of aromatherapy I'd prefer. I must say that the aromatherapy is a nice little bonus and she had a variety of essential oils to choose from. She also asked if I wanted to try the hot stone treatment at no additional charge. Massage: Julie was attentive to all my problem areas and carefully worked out my knots with the perfect application of pressure (and made sure to check with me on my comfort level at various intervals). Easy booking, friendly, and effective - I would absolutely go back for future massages! read more

I just moved to the area and was in a severe back spasm that had me on the couch. I found Harmony/Julie and looked at the reviews here. Thank goodness for Yelp reviews! Everyone who said Julie is amazing is correct. I told her about my pain and she expertly massaged my back, used the hot stones, and made me feel much better. I will be a regular of Harmony/Julie. Book Julie, you won't be sorry!! read more

I started going to Julie several months ago after going to the highest reviewed Massage place in San Mateo for a birthday treat. That place was a disappointment. THEN, I found Julie. She's a miracle and easily one of the best masseuses I've ever been to. Because she's so affordable and so good, I've been going nearly once a week and cleared up so many chronic aches. Of course, my neck and shoulders are always tense but so much better with her care. The bonus is her bubbly personality and work ethic. You won't be disappointed. Booking online is so convenient. Easily one of the best parts. No back and forth. read more

Delightful! Julie gives great massages and curates such a comfortable environment. Highly recommend, and a good price too!

MOST AMAZING MASSAGE IVE EVER HAD. Prior to visiting Julie I had been experiencing some really bad neck and and back pain due to stress, it was so bad I couldn't even sleep. I can now say that after 90 minutes I am not only the most relaxed I've ever been but also feeling completely better. When I arrived Julie was already waiting for me and guided me to the room which was awesome. Then before getting started she asked me about any problem areas and let me choose the aromatherapy scent I liked best. During the massage I was able to completely relax and the hot stones helped me to snap back quick - I now feel like a new person. Highly recommend coming here, this far exceeds any of the other massages I've received and the price was incomparable. Julie you're awesome thank you so much! read more

I just had my first massage from Julie and she was amazing! I have a lot of back problems and she knew exactly where to focus with just the right amount of pressure. She was very attentive and you could tell she was very experienced. I am so happy to find a professional massage therapist! I for the first time feel like I will get some control over my back problems. Highly recommend! There is also plenty of read more

I went for a massage two weeks ago. I've been in and out of pain since. She did something to hurt my neck and I can barely lay down to sleep now. I have to take time off of work to go to the doctor and get an X-ray to see the damage she did and hope it's not permanent. read more

Julie is the best masseuse I have ever used. She always knows where I am hurting, how much pressure to apply and how to get my back feeling great! I have had a lot of massages, but she is by far the best! read more

I have been seeing Julie for a little less than a year and she is absolutely amazing. By far the best massage therapist that I have ever had. I've probably had a dozen appointments at this point and she is consistently great. She is a really good listener and helps me deal with all of my pain points (shoulders, neck, low back and legs). Plus aromatherapy isn't an upcharge like you see at so many places. She is also great to talk to, but respects when I'm not up for talking. She is very thoughtful and knowledgeable and just knows what is too much and is not enough. Since I have been seeing her, I feel like my muscles are loosening up. Which is very much appreciated. At our last few sessions, she has actually been walking on my legs, which sounds weird. But it is the only thing that has worked. Definitely highly recommended! read more

Julie is awesome. She is the only massage therapist I have worked with who's actually addressed specific muscle groups and sources of pain, and been able to fix them. Since seeing her on a semi-regular basis, she's helped relieve a lot of back issues that I've had (including spasms) and worked to identify the source so that they don't come back. If you like deep tissue and pressure point massage, Julie is great - she isn't afraid to dig in and get to those painful spots that can be the source of more pervasive pain. I try to go to her at least once a month to reset, and always look forward to the scalp massage at the end of the treatment! read more

Hi I have several massages from Julie, the owner, and she never disappoints. I've gone in with headaches, neck pain, and lower back issues. Julie is very warm and caring. Her techniques are very soothing, relaxing, and effective. Love having her massages. read more

Julie is an AMAZING masseuse, and a really wonderful person. She has been practicing for years and it definitely shows. Prior to beginning the massage, she asked me which areas I'd like her to focus on which was great because I'd been having a sore neck and shoulders. I felt amazing after! She also threw in a free hot stone massage which was so wonderful. I would highly recommend Julie to anyone looking for a massage, whatever your needs are, she will do a wonderful job! read more

Julie is fantastic. I've tried a lot of different massage therapists in the city, in LA, etc. and have settled on Julie as my primary therapist while I'm in the Bay Area, for a couple of reasons: 1. She knows what she's doing - I always feel 10x better after our sessions, and Julie is attentive to the problem areas that I am trying to fix/help in our session. In addition, she's good at finding other problem spots and addressing these before they become bigger issues. 2. She's someone I trust - Massage is as much a trusted relationship as it is bodywork. Julie makes sure that I don't feel rushed, always considers the non-direct-massage time where we chat about my problem areas as not part of the session (so I'm getting what I paid for), and truly cares about my well-being. For example, she knows that I don't drink enough water, so every session now she'll start with handing me a bottle of water before & after, just to make sure that I'm hydrating (because she knows I won't otherwise...) 3. Her services are affordable! Rates in the Bay Area are really high, and even on popular apps like Soothe etc. I still pay less or on par with other massages I've gotten. And her services (and the time actually spent on bodywork) is 10x better than a Massage Envy even though you're only paying a little more than their regular prices. Some things to note before you head over there... - Her studio is located next to the bikram yoga studio, so at times can get a little noisy (though she's been finding new ways to make this better!) and a little funky with the smell (the new aroma machine makes this a non issue for me these days) - Julie is awesome, but be patient with her English! Tell her what you need, and over time, she'll learn this fairly intuitively just by learning your body Highly recommend Julie's services. Believe she also offers outcall massage, but not sure exactly where to request this on her website. I'd call or ask her in person. read more

I've only been to Julie's studio once, but I will absolutely be going back. I had just gotten off a 15-hour flight and was understandably stiff and uncomfortable. Julie worked with me for 90 minutes, concentrating on my problem areas. She discovered (and relieved) knots I didn't know I had! Her space is very comforting and warm, and Julie is a consummate professional. Appointments are convenient to book and her rates are more than reasonable. Overall, Julie is the best massage therapist I've had in the Bay Area. read more

Julie is the best massage therapist I've ever experienced. My right arm and hand used to be benumbed and I couldn't carry even two clothes because of the paralysis. I felt uncomfortable all the time. The pain extended to my neck and head so I couldn't hold even the spoon to feed myself. I went to visit Julie and was told that my muscle was too tight and there were some knots inside. I felt much better after the first massage. My arm and hand were not benumbed any more so I kept visiting Julie once two weeks to maintain my healthy. read more

I got my first massage with Julie today and it was absolutely incredible! I have had many massages before but this was at the top as one of the best massages I've ever had! The space isn't much to look at but she does such a good job that it 100% doesn't matter about the decor. Her prices are extremely reasonable as well and she is an absolute sweetheart. Go see Julie! You definitely won't regret it! read more

Julie is the best massage therapist I have found in 5 years of living in the Bay!

Julie is a great massage therapist. She was very effective in working out my stiff back and knots, yet was very conscious about applying pressure that best suited me. I left her studio feeling relaxed and relieved of my aches. Her online booking system through her website is super easy and convenient to book, even a same day appointment! I definitely recommend her and will be a repeat client! Thanks, Julie! read more

Julie is an awesome therapist, I began seeing her more during my pregnancy and boy, she knows exactly how to alleviate the discomforts pregnancy. A great, affordable massage! Received the new client price and booked through Yelp, great value and easy to book! The space was relaxing, peaceful and comfortable. I loved the hot stones and aromatherapy that were included. Julie concentrated on the areas where she felt knots/tension and after the massage pointed out these spots to me on a diagram so I was aware of them. I left feeling very relaxed! A great experience! I would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning! read more

Julie is in one word: AMAZING! She really knows the body, can feel where your issues are, takes her time and works hard to resolve them. I always leave feeling rejuvenated and "fixed!" After an accident, I had months of physical therapy and lots of medication, and cortisone shots. No treatment made me feel as well as Julie's massage therapy and I could tell the difference in my body when life got busy and I had to stop going for a while. Self care is extremely important and going to see Julie regularly is part of my self care. Treat yourself! She truly has a gift. The free hot stones and aromatherapy are a bonus. Top notch service for a reasonable price. read more

I have had back problem for 40 years. After two surgeries I am very careful who works on my body. From the start I could tell that Julie is a skilled and experienced massage therapist. With a gentle yet strong touch, she was very attentive to tensions deep in my back and she proceeded to rub them out and make them disappear. It was a wonderful experience, and I felt great afterward. Her work manner is not at all hurried. She pays great attention to your needs by sensing where the tensions lie and then calmly, smoothly massaging them away. I will definitely be back again soon. read more

She was nice enough. The massage wasn't bad but it was amazing either. Place was too noisy. Didn't like the music.

I've been having constant neck, shoulder, and back pain due to working long hours in front of a computer. I searched Yelp and discovered Julie of Harmony massage. With all the glowing reviews I decided to give massage a chance. She takes the time to ask of previous experiences with massage and about problem areas on my body. I had fractured my left shoulder 1 year ago and she made special note of that. She made me feel very comfortable and provided me with instructions before she left the room to allow me to disrobe. The room has a separate curtained area to disrobe to place your personal items and clothes. Soothing music plays and soft light helps put you in a relaxed mood. Julie is a petite lady with soft but strong hands. She noted tense areas on my upper torso and proceeded to knead away the knots. She's very sensitive to your reactions and adjusts accordingly. She's fantastic and I've scheduled another session with her because 1hr wasn't enough. Give her a try...you'll be glad you did. read more

I made a last minute appointment with Julie this Sunday and she was fabulous! Super sweet woman who knows what she is doing. She used just the right amount of pressure. I had been frequenting the foot spas more recently and sometimes they are painful! Julie was able to work out my knots without the pain. Will definitely be going back on a regular basis! read more

My neck had been really sore for a week, and it was feeling more and more uncomfortable. Julie gave me a full massage, with a focus on my neck and shoulder muscles, and it really made things better. The discomfort disappeared, and I feel much more relaxed. What a difference this made! My only regret is that I waited 7 days to get the knot in my neck addressed. Next time I'll go to Julie sooner. read more
