It was my first time using a locksmith service and I have to say the whole process was fast. I have decided to give this company a try because it looked like it was local and had decent reviews. When I call they told me that they would't be able to give me a price and that the technician was going to that when he arrived. Once the Tech arrived he saw my lock and told me that the only way to open the door was to drill it so, I said okay, then I asked how much? He said $250 for drilling. Then I asked, how much for a new lock ? He said $280 + service fee + tax - overall the whole experience cost me $713 dollars for a new lock and the lock out service. The next day I called to verify the prices and I was told those were the prices and that it varies by Techs. I told them that I felt the prices too much and that it didn't seem fair. I got a call from them later saying that they'll refund me $100 dollars to make me happy. The total price was $613 dollars - I think it was still a bit much - I think the price should have been more around $300 to $400 but, maybe it's my unpopular opinion. Also, note that I did call them around 7:40 pm and I got the service around 8:00 pm. I'll say that before you use them make sure you get the prices before hand. If I knew it was going to cost me that much I would of shop around. I give them 3 stars because they were not upfront with the prices and they only tell you once the tech gets to your house. Service was great tho. Update: I was contacted by Lior (the manger) and he apologize for the situation I described above - he acknowledged that the price was too high and that the tech should have been upfront with me. He mentioned that his guys were busy due to the Jewish Holiday so the job was done by a freelancer - the reason why I was overcharged. He mentioned they don't do business this way and that he wanted to correct this / make things right. I sent him a picture of my lock and told him the services I got - he said that for the service I got the total should have been $239.53 and he refunded me $373.47 + $100 I got refunded earlier. I really appreciate Lior reaching out and making things right for me. I'm updating my rating to 5 stars because of what he did and I will be considering this company in the future / recommending them. I really hope my experience and transparency helps others in the case this happens to you. read more

EDIT (3 STARS): The owner, David, called me and waived the charges after seeing this review. He was polite and professional, while navigating the confusion of what happened between the locksmith and our management company, then admitted that he sends out the calls to other locksmiths that don't work directly for him. He offered to fix the lock, which we're awaiting a decision from the church on whether or not they wish to have them come back. He did not have an explanation as to how people could ensure that they don't get stuck with random prices set by people who work for a different company than the one that they called, or how to avoid this in the future. He asked me to remove this review, but I feel it's pretty important to leave it up. David made the situation right, but people should know this is essentially a call center and you do not know who you're going to get. They'll step in only if you complain, as is evident by other reviews. ORIGINAL REVIEW (1 STAR): Bad service. Shady payment. Straight up harassment. The service guy was good at first. We needed a cylinder change. Apparently it required drilling. I accept these things happen, but I've had better experiences with more knowledgeable locksmiths. The lock still doesn't feel quite right but he says it would be even more invasive to get it working properly. Not quite sure that's true and I think a better locksmith could have done a better job, especially for the price. Regardless, where we had an even more serious issue was pricing and collection of payment. First he said he couldn't give a quote before doing the job. I asked if it would be over $700, he said it should be around there. After the job the price was over $1,000 for a simple cylinder drill and change. They tried telling me that Mul-T-Locks were $600. Then when I told them I knew what a Mul-T-Lock actually costs, the price dropped to $400 for the cylinder. Still absurdly high, even with labor. The labor for cylinder removal was also almost $400. Then a service fee, and a credit card fee (give me a break). They asked about taxes, tried avoiding them, wouldn't write an invoice (just a handwritten receipt) and demanded to be paid on the spot. I told them that our management company needs to pay for the locks, I'm just a resident, so please invoice the management company. The guy called his boss back and forth a bunch of times, refused to write a proper invoice, asked if I could send them Zelle, and eventually sent me a screenshot of a code for Square... What kind of business method is this!? We settled on $850. Still very high, but at least within the acceptable range. Again, all of this is shady, unprofessional and not how anyone should be running things. It gets worse. I said I'm forwarding this over to management. He was suspicious he wouldn't get paid. I said we've paid them before, and asked him to do things the way they should be done. Within two hours I got called at least five times by various people at the company, including the locksmith himself, harassing me about payment. Apparently, the management messed up the payment. They paid the past zelle account they'd used before, rather than the screenshot of a square code texted across three different phone numbers (with a business payment strategy so elegant and secure, what could go wrong!). When this was explained to the locksmith and I stated he should expect payment by the management company some time today, he started yelling at me that I paid someone else, not him (that earlier zelle code, remember?). Earlier that day he said he wasn't the one personally collecting the money, which is why he couldn't come down on the price. So which is it? Eventually the locksmith said he was going to come back to the building and "get this all taken care of". I said if you come back to the building there will be serious issues because i'm considering this harassment at this point. I asked him yet again to call management. He stated they hung up on him. I called management and they said he was screaming at them. All of this checks out. He called again and I said learn to run a business or tell your boss to. Better yet... just wait an hour until the payment goes through and chill tf out. A lot of yelling and constant phone calls and harassment. A poorly installed lock. The owner obviously puts all the onus on the locksmiths or holds them responsible for parts costs or something. There's a ton of shadyness going on here. read more

Update: the owner David called and apologized and said the person who came was a freelance technician they wouldn't work with again. I feel better now and like I said they came extremely quickly. David offered to send someone and change the lock again free of charge. Took advantage of me because I am a woman. Quoted my husband one price over the phone then intimidated me because I was alone at night. Paid $180 and left a hole in my door and yelled at me for more money. Very depressing experience. I will say they came quickly and were responsive however i don't feel safe with this guy knowing where I live so i notified the police just in case. read more

So I stupidly locked myself out of my apartment on saturday and my housemates were of course out of town. I desperately called this place - I believe the owner is the one who picked up and sent someone right away (within 30 minutes). Locksmith was done letting me in and replacing my locks in literally 5 minutes! Owner even called me to check in if the locksmith arrived and or if everything was taken care of. TMI - I was pretty upset about the whole situation bc of various other things that were happening in my life and the owner comforted me on the phone Bonus- they take venmo payment I'm very grateful and recommend this service and price 10/10 read more

I had a bad experience with my locksmith who made me wait hours before storming off without unlocking my door and originally wrote a bad review, but the owner reached out to me to apologize and explain that it was a freelancer who serviced me because his workers were off for the Jewish holiday. UPDATE (08/19/19): They just called me asking to take down this review and they offered to fully refund me for their "service". Stay woke I doubt the their good reviews are genuine. THEIR TECHNICIANS ARE SCAMMERS. I called this locksmith last night because I was locked out of my apartment. The technician that came almost cheated me. After looking at my door, he said the only way to get in would be drilling the lock. I refused to let him do this because I thought it was too dramatic, I don't own my apartment, and my lock isn't unique so I was surprised that that would be the solution. He also said that drilling the lock would be $275 with an extra fee that I forget. However I refused the suggestion. He then proceeded with the regular way of trying to pry the lock open. There was some damage to my door, which I expect, but eventually my roommate opened the door (she was sleeping and woke up from the noise). After this he told me that the charge would be $275. This price was definitely the price he quoted for drilling the lock. I refused to pay this price and told him I wanted to talk with his supervisor. He then told me the lowest price he could do was $195. I still requested to speak with the supervisor. At this, he then told me the price would be $125 plus $29 for him coming to my place. This was the price I discussed over the phone with his supervisor before he came. I agreed to pay this price, but I definitely do not use these people because the technicians do not have integrity. read more

Super cut-through service late at night for replacing our locks. We were expecting to have to make an appointment weeks out in advance, so we were very happy and surprised that they could come over at the very moment we called them up. It's rare that any establishment accepts responsibility for wrongdoing, especially when it's an isolated incident involving only one employee. Billy has gone above and beyond admitting the issue, and has taken every step (including sternly reprimanding the technician at fault AND offering a refund for my trouble) to right the situation while working to regain my trust and make me feel like a valued customer. I am impressed and pleasantly surprised by how much care and professionalism went into resolving this issue, and am reinstating my original rating of 5 stars. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Honest, skillful service delivered with warmth and patience. My key would no longer work in my front door lock at 12:40am, and the locksmith was in front of my apartment by 1:06am ready to assess the problem and get me into my home without further headache. The technician was friendly, knowledgeable, and even had a great sense of humor (which helped lighten my mood after having stood outside fiddling with my key since 11:40pm, before giving up and calling upon their services). Being locked out was an unpleasant experience, but working with this company and the lovely technician assigned to my call was anything but. I highly recommend this business. UPDATE: I called Harlem Locksmith again the following evening to replace the lock they'd removed the previous night, and they quoted me a price that was nearly $100 MORE than what they had charged me for the removal. I felt that the price was inflated, so I shopped around and found a different locksmith who did the entire replacement for almost $200 less than the price I'd been quoted by Harlem Locksmith. I believe I was overcharged for a simple service. There was a top lock already installed in my front door from a previous tenant, so I made an appointment to have a new cylinder put into the existing hardware. I was charged $265 for this service. Meanwhile, a friend paid a local hardware store in the neighborhood to drill and install a brand new lock in her door: she paid only $60. I paid four times what she did for a relatively uncomplicated service - feels a little unfair. EDIT: About twenty minutes after I posted the review, I called the number listed for this business, and the dispatcher took my complaint and said to call back in the morning. She passed it along to the owner, who called me about twenty minutes later (despite it being well after business hours). He agreed that the charge seemed high, and wasn't sure why I would have been charged that much. He offered to send a messenger the next morning with a check for a partial refund. I appreciate that this was taken care of swiftly, and after business hours, no less. I would ask for a quote when you book your appointment and to confirm that price with the technician who arrives before any work is done. read more

Update 2: The cylinder that these guys put in was no longer working properly (no fault of the company, more on the cylinder itself) so they kindly sent someone to repair at no cost to me. They also updated another lock on the door for me (I have bad lock luck) and gave me a competitive price. The owner followed up after and made sure everything was in working order, which I appreciate. Glad I found these guys! Update: After I posted my review, the owner of the company called me and told me I had in fact been overcharged by his technicians. He kindly asked me how much I would like to be refunded but I asked him to just charge me the price it should have been and refund only the difference. The final cost was almost exactly the estimate I received from other locations and I really appreciated his calling me directly to discuss. Customer service at its finest! Original review: Was in a pinch when my key would no longer unlock my apartment door, called these guys and they showed up in 15 minutes. It took two guys to get it fixed but I appreciate that they worked so hard to get it done. My only complaint is the price. They were already higher than other quotes I received and saw online but add the need for a new lock and you've got yourself a $400 problem. Yep, just to drill through my lock and put a new one in. If it wasn't for the fact they were the only place able to get to me when I needed them, I would have gone with another company. Edit: About an hour ago, one of the two owners of Harlem Locksmith called after I posted the original review. He was upset that I had accurately accounted my experience with their company in light of the fact that his partner had refunded me $150. He explained that since Harlem Locksmith had refunded me all the profit they made on the job that I 'hadn't paid for the lock' and he was going to come by on Monday (day after tomorrow) and remove the lock from my door. I explained to him he would have to get through 2 locked doors to get my front door. He replied "I'm good with locks." I incredulously asked if he really was really going break into this building and take the lock from my door. He said "Yes I'm going to break into the building and take my lock." I said I would call the police if he did that, he affirmed that I should call the police because according to him, I hadn't paid for the lock. When in reality after the refund I had paid $510. So I don't actually know if the owner, I think his name is 'Avi' is really going to do this, but I did just file a complaint with the police. The police officer described this as harassment and she encouraged me to call 911 if anyone from Harlem Locksmith tries to remove the lock from my door. The police officer with great understatement and deadpan said "that is very unprofessional." Needless to say 0 stars. ------------------------ $650 to have a full lock changed (not just the cylinder) seems liked a lot to me, even for early on a Saturday night. I was out of town and my wife was alone. 'Shawn' came relatively quickly and did a good job. If you don't mind spending a lot of money they will probably come through. What you should also know is that 'Shawn' didn't tell my wife how much it would cost before he started work and only after she asked him. He also didn't give my wife a receipt nor did he give her change. So the total bill was $660. I spoke to a number of Harlem Locksmith employees on the phone. They were uniformly rude, evasive, and made numerous contradictory statements. 'Ben' said the owner declined to speak to me. I wanted a partial refund and 'Ben' hung up on me when I didn't accept the figure they offered. Eventually it was agreed Harlem Locksmith would send me a check and a receipt.... Which never came. Eventually, just about 3 weeks after the lock was changed, and after a number of other unpleasant phone calls, the owner came to my apartment with $150 in cash. Despite me asking for the receipt multiple times he didn't bring one. The owner did acknowledge that his employees didn't know how to handle the situation I presented (although if you look through other Yelp reviews there is mention of refunds and acknowledgment of overcharging). He affirmed the situation with his staff was 'my problem.' I imagine it is, but it is also a problem for his customers. So, in summary, you'll get a good lock, but in my opinion it wasn't worth the difficulty. read more
