After reading "War" by Sebastian Junger I was excited for the documentary film "Restrepo" to come this summer. Turns out the only theatre in Arizona it was playing at was "Valley Art". I had never heard of this theatre but was happy to try out a new place. Yes, parking around Mill can be a nightmare but the theatre DOES offer 4 hr FREE validated parking if you park in the huge lot by those condos they started building and basically abandoned. It's on the street just west of mill. Be sure to park here and get your ticket validated... though the lot says 1st hour free, the movie theatre has a special 4 hr validation. The theatre only contains 1 actual screen, but it's nice. The seats are very comfy and I love that all of the arm rests come up. The bathrooms are clean and the service for food/tickets is friendly and fast. I'd definitely come here again if they were showing a film I liked.

Best art house in the Valley, just not enough of them. They do a lot of WORK with ASU School of Sustainability.

Line outside Harkins Valley Art Theater for "Atlas Shrugged Part 1"

Great place to catch an Indie. Perfect location too, after you can catch a bite to eat on this busy street.

I currently have a love/hate relationship with social media, but I'm so glad I came across a post showcasing this glorious theater located in Tempe! I was going to try it out by myself but the Crazy Cat Lady (if you follow me on the gram, you know who that is, lol) decided to come out from the boonies on a whim, so we went. We saw "Weapons" and it had us hooked to the end! No, the seats don't recline (they do lean back a little) or have swingy table tops for your snackies, but they have cup holders and they're not cloth seats, so for $3.50 (and $2.95 every Thursday) you really can't complain! The theater was clean and the nostalgic decor make for a very enJOYable experience. There's also an arcade in the front lobby to the left once you enter. My only little gripe is that the restrooms are on opposite ends, but that's a very minor setback. The concession stand has all the basics: popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, pretzels, candy and drinks. We got the combo deal for $11.95, which includes a medium drink, medium popcorn AND a hot dog (or pretzel). We ordered an additional small drink and the total came out to $15 and some change. I don't know about you, but I know a good deal when I see one and this here is pretty epic in today's economy! Of course the movies shown here are a few months old, but I love that because that means it's not crowded at all. I can't stand a packed theater. This would be a great place for a birthday party, team-building or just a simple no frills kinda date! There's a bunch of pic opps in here, too. Have yourself a blast and don't forget to take a pic with Chewie, like me! Lol!

For those that are unfamiliar with IMAX, the screen is 80ft wide x 60ft tall. 70mm screening are exclusive to this theater so I highly recommend viewing an upcoming film in this format if available. I forgot how immersive and amazing this huge screen is...once the movie starts you are locked in and it's hard to look away. We were 6 rows back near the center of the auditorium so they were pretty close to perfect seats. Two of the only downsides I experienced is 1) The seats don't recline and are pretty close together. I was rubbing elbows and bumping knees with the lady in the seat next to me (accidentally of course). 2) The walkway to the far end of the theater is down in front of the seats but you see people walking by very easily during the movie. Overall, this is a great way to watch a movie!

While we were watching the movie shortly after eating the popcorn, I started to develop stomach pain. After leaving the theater, both of us experienced severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and significant abdominal pain. Even now, we are both still experiencing stomach pain and it has not stopped. The symptoms have been bad enough that we are scheduling a visit with our primary care doctor. We wanted to share this experience so the theater can review their food handling and so other guests can be cautious. We hope management looks into the freshness and safety of the popcorn and butter stations.

Initially you walk into a large interior with plenty of tables and a bar and restaurant with gelato and so much more. You can then order any food and drinks in your very comfortable seats in the movie theater itself. I went this past week with a friend to watch the release of the latest Avatar movie. We arrived a bit early to get something to drink and watch the previews and arrange our seats accordingly before the movie started. We pressed the button on the seat and the staff showed up quickly so that we could place our orders in person. I ordered a milkshake with chocolate gelato while my friend ordered a soda. The theaters themselves have large screens where you can see well from any seat. If you visit the RoadHouse Cinemas website (https://www.roadhousecinemas.com), you can see showtimes for upcoming movies, join their newsletter, join their loyalty program (for a free ticket before your birthday), and can even fill out a mystery shopper form after your experience for a chance to win a pair of movie tickets and $40 credit. You can also see upcoming events and a their menu. RoadHouse Cinemas is open 365 days a year and intentionally offers a movie experience combined with a special dining experience. They have an award-winning chef and restaurateur. They also have a creative full bar featuring wine, beers, and specialty drinks. They also have state-of-the-art digital projection and 7.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Needless to say, you're in for something special by visiting this theater!

My brother worked for Harkins back in high school and I got into a lot of free movies back then. I saw all the big blockbuster movies back in the 1990s at the old Cine Capri in Phoenix and the Camelview 5 in Scottsdale. I am all about the movie experience, especially movies that have a lot of action and special effects. I still enjoy dinner and a movie date nights. This Harkins location is in North Scottsdale right off the 101 and has plenty of parking and restaurants all around. I was recently in the area and caught the latest "Superman" movie in the CINÉ XL theater. Harkins Theatres Scottsdale 101 14 has 14 screens and all the updated stuff like stadium seating and electronic reclining seats. The CINÉBAR has a variety of wines and rotating craft beers. Food can be ordered ahead of time on the Harkins mobile app. A Cine Capri-style auditorium was built at Scottsdale 101 in 2003. It is called CINÉ XL and has an extra large screen, a gold curtain that opens up before the movie begins and Dolby Atmos sound with a 4K laser projection. There is also a small Cine Capri museum here with pictures of the old theater in Phoenix. I like going to Harkins Theatres because they offer the best deals for a regular movie goer like myself. I'm part of the My Harkins Awards program where you get discounts after so many visits. They have an annual Popcorn Perks program where you can get 36 medium popcorns for a year for $40 (one popcorn per visit). I also purchase the loyalty cup and get my $3 refillable drink at each show. I save on admission price by seeing most of my movies during matinee hours. Going to the movies doesn't have to be expensive if you look for the deals. Sometimes the concession lines can be long at Harkins. A lot of young folks work at Harkins and can be a little slow at times. Plus certain people bog up the lines because they order way too much food and snacks for a two hour movie. But I still enjoy my movie experience and what Harkins Theatres has to offer.
