It's a cool hole in the wall neighborhood bar that is cool to visit on a Sunday after having Brunch in the area. The drink specials on Sundays are great and the crowd isn't that loud minus the television that no one watches. LOL! Great place to throwback a few drinks with friends and talk for a while. My very favorite Manhattan gay bar. It's at 10th ave at 48th. Long and narrow. Great music. Awesome bartenders i.e. when I put the squeezed lime on the napkin with my first Rose Kennedy, he squeezed and discarded the lime on my 2nd (3-5). It's so accessible yet loud and trendy. OMG guys! There are gay bars in New York I haven't reviewed! So... Daniel M. has convinced me to leave my apartment the past several weekends. Each of those times, we've ended up here. I like it. As opposed to Bartini on Friday nights, you can actually find a place to sit down and chill out in the back. And people here aren't so terrible. Someone last Friday literally shoved me while I was walking through the crowd at Bartini. Shove. Literally. There was this amazing DJ who looked like a middle age mom, which you know... apropes since it was Mother's Day weekend. There was a good mix of music here- she played some fun remixes, some 80's stuff, and some top 40. It's good to groove your booty to. I also just really like the gigantic glasses they give you for the booze. I also have to say, out of Bartini, FairyTale, and this place... this is the easiest place to get a drink. It just has a nice vibe. It's worth visiting if you haven't been there before. If someone tells you I broke a glass here, they are a dirty rotten liar. Also, it doesn't count if someone slams into and knocks it out of your hand. So there. read more

Heard about this place so I decided to go see what it was about on a Sunday night. Arrived around 9pm and about an hour later a drag show started. I am never really into drag shows because they tend to be cheesy but Sundays show was the best I've seen anywhere. Very funny, involved the crowd, and great performances. Drink prices were reasonable with no cover charge. Mixed crowd. Place was filled with people but not overcrowded. Really nice atmosphere inside with optional table service. You do need to spend $20 to use a credit card which is pretty standard. Friendly bartenders were quick to serve drinks. Table service was also friendly and quick. I will definitely go back with friends to see what its like on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

I preface that I love Hardware and think it has the best drag shows in town, and a fab dance floor. So I gave it 5 stars. I hate to say anything negative about my favorite bar... But the Friday DJ needs to play more POC artists. Having been there countless Fridays, he almost exclusively plays white artists (except for Crazy in Love at 3am)... once you notice, it becomes too obvious and now it's a little infuriating bc this pattern occurs without fail. I get he may have a personal preference for pop styles, but he is missing great dance opportunities. I reemphasize that Hardware is my happy place, and I'm sure if this gets around to the DJ he'll take it constructively. He's a great DJ otherwise, and I'm sure you'd have a blast regardless. Also Hans is the heart and soul of Hardware. I always look forward to seeing him. And drinks are cheap, boys are nice, etc. read more

Before I started to write this review, Justin at Hardware called me regarding business. I was left completely blown away at how amazing and gracious he was, that their customer service goes beyond their establishment and the fact that he said that him and everyone at Hardware loves my company, Ogilvy. Guess what, so do I and the rest of the company. My company bought out Hardware Bar for one night this past December for my department holiday party and it was hands down better than your holiday party was. The service and hospitality that Hardware Bar provided was absolutely outstanding. They accommodated to our needs perfectly by letting us have Hill Country BBQ cater, providing us with their "famous" DJ Mike B and loop department "office" made videos making it a pretty unique situation! Throughout the night, there were two bartenders and one server who took down orders and returned with drinks in less than three minutes. No easy feat since there were easily close to over 50 of us! A few co-workers and I were some of the first to arrive and we all noticed the chic wood decor and wide selection of spirits and beer, perfect for people who work in an advertising agency! Both bartenders were behind the bar prepping for our arrival and once we clustered at the bar, we had their full attention to take our orders and agree with us that seeing a throw back music video of BSB (Back Street Boys) was "unreal" (in a good way!). Their personalities were fantastic and foreshadowed the evening. Soon enough, the bar was packed and I noticed something: it was crowded, yes, but there was space for everyone not one person looked squished or uncomfortable, there were stools in the middle of the bar and ledges underneath the mirror opposite the bar if in fact you were left standing. It was impressive to watch one person float around the crowd taking drink requests and giving them in 2-4 minutes. Good to note that although it looks like there is only one restroom, there is actually one in the far back to your left. (Also, though they have a vast selection of drinks it was not clear to me that on a normal night whether they offer food or not. No matter, though, since they are conveniently located to lots of diverse restaurants in the area.) The back had a mini disco ball and DJ booth with comfortable seats and neat wooden tables and chairs close to the floor. It gave a sort of casual vibe, the kind that Ogilvy exudes, making us feel right at home! Later on in the evening these sassy, fabulous drag queens came out and weren't afraid to pose for photos and remind us that we were jealous of their ability to wear ridiculously long heels. That sass is the epitome of any queen in New York City and it was just perfection and frankly a welcomed surprise. Drinks were sipped, noms were devoured and good times were had all around. The next day at the office nothing but positive comments were made about the party. For those of you in business and want a place to host your next office or department party or simply congratulate a fellow colleague on their accomplishments, this is the place to do it. The team at Hardware (Gary, Eric and Justin (and more!)) are dedicated, courteous people who truly understand what it takes to exceed the needs of their client. I personally needed a document from them and heard from them within the time frame that met my needs - in fact, one of them personally hand delivered said document to me, though of course this is most likely because they are located two blocks away from us! I like this bar. My friends and I have been several times and enjoyed ourselves. There has only been one time where I had to wait for a drink because the bartender was backed up. But, it wasn't 20 minutes like other people have said. I'm in the service industry and I know people who claim they have been waiting 20 minutes when really it's only been 5. Staff is cute, but not the "perfect" type which seems to be a trend in the city. I personally am over getting drinks from a model with no personality. I say give the place a chance. After 5 years of frequenting this place on a VERY regular basis, tonight's professionalism was Very much to my dismay. My family' litteral' family visted to enjoy the happy hour/drag show dj....all off whom mentioned our 'engagement/ bday' All were stellar.... Someone claiming to be 'one of the owners' (clarity will be posted once I get confirmation on that.....highly unlikely to be true.... turned off the music on the Dance Floor,,,"A Song we Requested and tipped a Reluctant D.J." to play....We were told we could enjoy the song at the regular bar area (truly...30 seconds into the song? couldn't let the song finish?) Once I asked to speak to the manager ....'the alleged owner' said 'if we did not like it, we could leave with security....I thanked the reluctant DJ and tried to LIKE the DJ's facebook page...for trying to end a perfect night for our family.(5 hours worth of patronage for our special occasion)..we were called "Biligerent Drunks"(because we wanted to hear the rest of the song" and we left while a 'satisfactory...at best....bouncer' breathed down our necks. NEVER AGAIN!...... PS....we did finish our night at D.BL. owned and managed by lovely people 'who clearly have several successful H.K. venues...including Mr. Bigg's and Vodka Soda. Mediocre expensive cocktail (everyone said this place had cheap drinks..maybe for regulars!) served in a glass coffee mug felt low end and out of place. Owners spent some coin on the build out...they could have good glasses. But the worst part was drag queen Shequida. Very negative, very bitchy. Complained about the small crowd like 5 times in the first 5 minutes and dissed Sherry Vine and the owners. Negative energy in the whole place. Nothing special. Doubt it gets better and with so many other choices in HK with better vibe I probably will not give it a second chance. This place has been getting some bad reviews, but I must say that on the multiple times I've been I have had a good experience!! Give it another shot. I've been on a Monday and Wednesday night where the crowd was more manageable and got drinks both from a server (Josh is the best!!) and then again at the bar and didn't have to wait long at all. On saturday the place is packed - but in a good way..great DJ - check out Scotty Rox! Lots of fun -- even though the place was busy, I still saw our server come around checking in on us as our drinks got low. This place has a special spot in my heart. It was one of the first bars I went to when I first moved to NYC. I really appreciate the low-key vibe with a lack of pretentious scene queens, friendly bartenders and really enjoy coming here to dance on Friday and Saturday nights! And no cover! It can get a bit crowded and there is a $20 drink minimum, so be sure to bring cash or spend some money on alcohol. Otherwise, probably my favorite spot in Hell´s Kitchen. read more

Interesting place. Went there with a date on a Wednesday and there were two drag queens. The drinks are decently priced. I had long islands and each were $10 bucks, get the picture? There was sort of a stage and a farce floor of course. There was no cover charge, maybe bc it was Wednesday so I don't know if that applies to every other day of the week/end? Nice atmosphere, cool casual crowd but not too casual. Drinks are good although the bar is narrow making it hard to catch the bartenders attention...which is why you grab a table in the back near the welcoming dance floor and enjoy table service. DJ's seem to be on a visiting rotation but all so far have been good and pay attention to the mood of the crowd. I'm not a big drag show at bars kinda guy but Sunday's are a special treat... Less than a year old Hardware Bar has a clean modern look to it that can appeal to vast group of people. The drinks are strong and the bartenders very attractive. They have new event happening every week that keep this place a little more interesting than the average gay bar. I had a very pleasant time going and its still one of my top three places to consider when planing a night out. read more

Swung by Hardware in the midst of the Hurricane Sandy power outages to find that the bar was crowded and had great energy. The music was good, the crowd was fun and friendly (even in their Hunter boots), and it was a welcome diversion from the media coverage of the MTA. The decor is minimalist and reminiscent of Vlada when it first opened, mixed in with a little Industry. All-in-all, it's a great addition to Hell's Kitty - swing by on your way to Fairy Tale and Bar-Tini. Looking forward to going back and seeing what they have to offer! read more
