The Deets: In recent years past, I have stopped by the tiki bar at the The Isles resort near the west end of Ocean Isle Beach to enjoy a drink or two and some snacks to enjoy passing the time. It is right on the beach and also overlooking the resort club pool (pool for members only) so it was a pretty cool place to hang out with plenty of parking to boot. I would have to say for drinks and food (mostly bar food fare in the past), it struck me as a 3 star type of experience...pretty A-OK. However, in going there to the tiki bar this most recent trip to OIB, I noticed now the tiki bar itself has now a name/identity of The Tipsy Turtle, cute...I also found that they have definitely upped their game now since prior visits. Grabbing a seat, I notice both the food and drink menus, and like what I see...I placed pics of both on here for reference. Grabbing one of their frozen margaritas and a basket of their fried shrimp with seasoned fries, my friends and I were set on having a nice snack and drink break for the Saturday afternoon. The fried shrimp were good, definitely not just thrown together or just fried up with no prep, I thought they were pretty tasty...and this from someone that is not that wild about seafood in the first place. The fries were heavily seasoned, I could have done with a notch or two less of that but they were a good snack as well. The frozen margarita was spot on. But what stood out this time the most was the 5+ stars service during this visit...our server Jake went above and beyond to not only make sure we had what we needed, checked on us to make sure we were OK frequently, but was all around a great part of the experience in his positive and happy demeanor along with superior "can-do" service attitude. If you head out to the The Isles tiki bar/The Tipsy Turtle this summer, be sure to sit in Jake's section if you can...he's great! With the past visits more along a 3 star experience then having the 5 star service experience this trip, I can go with a 4 star overall final score for this tiki bar.
