A pretty good small town diner…read more They clearly have refitted what was once a fast food place, but did a lot to give it a more down-home atmosphere, and I'll give them credit for the effort to make it feel more comfortable and feel better. The service was fast and polite, they were quick and courteous. The food was decent, but not outstanding. I had the hot turkey sandwich, which was fine, but the mashed potatoes were very thin and I think they'd been watered down a little, the green beans were completely unseasoned, and the gravy was that neon-yellow kind that I hadn't had in 30 years and only ever saw in school cafeterias. It was perfectly okay. . .but could have been better. I'll still give it four stars for fast, good service at a low price for decent food. There's room to improve, but it's definitely a decent place to eat.

The menu offers comfort food, and that depiction is spot on. I had the cheeseburger with a side of coleslaw. And following that my sister and I split a hot fudge ice cream Sunday. The cheeseburger was cooked to the right temp and the veggies on board tastes very fresh. The coleslaw was really good - I grade venues like this on simple things like coleslaw, and the coleslaw was delicious. The dessert was superb and almost over the top, if we could've finished it. The layers of cake were baked well and were t flimsy but held up while we were gathering the fudge and ice cream. The portions are ample and leave you feeling full and satisfied but not uncomfortable - unless you take on dessert. If we're ever back in town, this will be one stop we will definitely make. Enjoy!

I skipped dinner and realized at 10:30pm, I really wanted something hot to eat instead of going to…read morebed with my tummy growling. I found no easy-fix options at home that looked appetizing. At this time of night, unfortunately options for any type of dine out is slim. I noticed this Wendy's stayed open till midnight and quite honestly, my expectations were low considering the time. I decided a simple Junior Bacon Cheeseburger and Junior sized fries sounded good so I placed an order using my Wendy's app, grabbed my car keys and headed out for the 7 minute drive. (According to Google Map). It was pouring the rain, (lovely), and it actually took me about 10 minutes to make the drive. I would have thought that would be plenty of time to prepare a JBC and fries considering I ordered online and had already paid. Good, I didn't want to be out in the nasty weather. No such luck! Apparently, using their app to order and pay in advance does you no favors. I arrived, pulled up to the drive thru, gave them my order # and pulled around to the window per instructions. And sat. And sat. And continued to sit there for the next 15 minutes. There were no other cars in the drive thru. Finally, I saw lights from another car pull behind me and I thought hopefully this would speed things up. The young lady working in the drive thru slid open the window and asked me if I cared to pull forward and they would bring my order out in just a few minutes. I was irate! By this time, I was just hangry, tired, wet from having to roll down my window with no shelter from the pouring rain to be asked to pull forward and to be quite honest I was not in a very friendly mood! I still tried to be civil to the young lady and told her in no uncertain terms that YES I did mind pulling forward considering I ordered and paid for a JBC and a JUNIOR SIZED ORDER OF FRIES 25 minutes ago!!!! I mean C'mon, how long does it take??? Is there a problem? Has their grill broke down? Is the fryer not working? What's the issue? She gave me no explanation except, Just a minute, please and closed the window and walked away. I almost pulled away figuring it wasn't worth $5 and change to wait another 15 minutes for food. I decided I would give them another 5 minutes and that was it-food or no food! Finally, after 4 more minutes, the manager/asst.manager? brought me my food, apologized for the wait-no explanation for the delay or offer of comping the meal, etc. I took the food, thanked her, and drove home. Needless to say, my expectations for the meal were extremely low but I was so hungry, as long as it was halfway edible, I wouldn't have complained. Surprisingly, everything was hot, fresh, and perfect. The burger and bacon were well cooked and hot, the lettuce and tomato were fresh and looked to be rinsed and cleaned, the Mayo wasn't excessive-it was exactly as a cheap JBC should be and the fries appeared to have just been taken out of the fryer and were so delicious. I'll have to say, that may have been the best little JBC and fries I've ever eaten. My only complaint was if I had known it was going to be that good, I almost think I could have eaten another one. lol. I will say, I was going to give you 1star before I tasted the meal, but it was so good I will meet you halfway. You would have gotten a 5 star rating if it hadn't taken 30 minutes to prepare-I mean c'mon this is supposed to be FAST food! So I will be back to give you another shot at the 5-star rating. Hopefully, it will be prepared as well at the next visit, only much, much quicker.

It set the stage perfectly for what was to come. Our host was quick and helpful, immediately bringing us big cups of water, which was a nice touch. I ordered the prime rib sandwich and was impressed by its tenderness, pairing it with crispy onion rings. Nicole and our little one shared the mixed platter, which came with two ribs, two pieces of chicken (choice of dark or light), and pulled pork, plus sides of beans and mac & cheese. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. Even Floyd and Casey got to enjoy some scraps, which they happily devoured. Dessert was a highlight: two cinnamon apple bread pudding cakes with whipped cream. Rich, sweet, and indulgent -- we left feeling full enough to skip dinner and ready for a nap. The only drawback was the grease factor. Toast was overly buttered, and overall the food leaned heavy, so be prepared to grab plenty of napkins. While the flavors were excellent, the richness sometimes felt a bit overwhelming. Sonny's BBQ delivers hearty portions, smoky flavor, and a welcoming atmosphere with attentive service. It's a great stop for comfort food on the road, though a touch less grease would make it perfect.
