I moved away from Corbin in the early 90's, it was awesome food and I especially Loved the Hot Dogs with Chili Sauce! I'm not sure if they are still open, or when their opening day was way back before then. Awesome place to eat! read more

Was on the way to colonel Sandro's museum and saw this place local place. I almost missed it. There's no sign but packed with all the locals. It's an old drive up restaurant where the ladies come out and take your orders fast and efficiently. Menu everything under $5. The food was. Old school nothing really to brag about. This was my first time eating here. You pull up and someone comes to the car to take the order. I ordered a footlong hotdog with onion rings and I of course had to get a root beer float. Price was reasonable. The footlong was delicious and so was the root beer float. I really liked it and the waitress was very friendly. Would definitely recommend. read more

K and I are obsessed with drive ins. Since were camping in the area we decided to stop by. Keep in mind we're 3 months into covid so I am sure that we didn't get a precovid feel. We pulled up to the building which was packed! A member of the waitstaff came out took our orders. She was very nice, quick to come over and answered our questions. K ordered 2 hotdogs with chili and cheese. I got a Dixie burger and fried to share. We took them to go and at them at the campground. Delicious! The Dixie burger hit the spot. And the chili dogs were delicious. I would highly recommend a stop by to pick up some classic grub! read more

My husband and I loved this. If you like, small town mom and pop, your grandparents ate here/all the high school students do too/it's cheap, then you'll love this place!!! We ordered cheeseburger, fries, onion rings and the chuck wagon. The cheeseburger amazing real meat and excellent homemade burger. The chuckwagon they said was a steak sandwich but it was a country fried steak sandwich. Really if you've ever been to a Texas DQ And ordered a dude sandwich, that's this......I love them so my husband and I swapped. The onion rings were like Sonic but fried longer and way better. Yummy yummy yummy root beer floats here - no surprise for a small town drive in. When we stopped by it was so busy we had to park off to the side. But a server was quick to stop by to get our order. The root beer is made in house and falls on the sweet, not barky, end of the root beer flavor spectrum. The vanilla ice cream isn't overly sweet either, making it a perfect match. Terrible place to go if you want people watching your every move Food is below average and employees are not friendly. Even when getting tipped and my wife paying for other's meal. This pleased her and when she tried to order for somebody else she was ignored. Bottom line: there are plenty of places to go where people don't get in your business and don't have to pay war price for a tip for same kind of food. Love this place since I was a kid. When the place first opens for the season wait times are long but as the season goes on they shorten.

If you like old fashioned drive in food it is good. Nothing all that special. The service is good. The waitresses were nice . Depending on the crowd the wait time is not bad. As this is a drive in the ambiance is really not that important but the exterior is a little dirty especially if you park by the kitchen back door. Dumpster smell was also kinda bad! I've been eating at the Root Beer Stand in Corbin since I was a teenager. I'm now in my mid 50's. It ALWAYS been a great place to eat but it's usually extremely busy too! So be patient. It's some of the best Burgers, Footlongs, Fries and Onion rings that you will find Anywhere! I lived in Ohio for 15 years and now in Tennessee but when I'm back home in Corbin I have to eat here! I think everyone in town came here for dinner. Mentioned it to my buddy and said we should check it out for lunch. Was very disappointed by the service of the employees. Arrived 40 minutes before the Stand was going to close and simply wanted to at least glance at the menu, but the employee that waited on us refused to serve us if we didn't order on the spot and were rushed. Not only that, but said employee invaded personal space without wearing their mask that was sitting around their neck, making us highly uncomfortable. If you value your health and wish to not take a chance during this trying time, I suggest wearing a mask before rolling your window down to speak to an employee, as none of them were wearing one. read more

My 80-year-old mother had been waiting on The Root Beer Stand to open for the past month, so she could have her favorite thing to eat, a foot long chili dog. Let me clue you in, I do not know what they have done to their chili, weiners or the buns, it definitely is not the same as last year. My brother ordered the cheese burger and he said the cheese was different and did not taste right nor did the mayo. While in town for work I pulled up my trusty Yelp app to help me find the local hot spot and it didn't fail me again. This little place is the classic old fashioned soda fountain joint. Think Sonic but the real deal. No neons, no cutie college girls on roller skates, just a menu board with missing letters and a bunch of waitresses running around delivering food. I showed up at 11:30am and it was already packed. They had one spot left to pull up to and I took it. As more people pulled in they continued serving them, but they were just sitting out in the gravel lot. I ordered the footlong chili dog and it came with chili (homemade I'm told), cheese, mustard, and onion, then some onion rings, and of course the root beer float. I mean come on, the place is named after it. ‍ As you might suspect, it was all delicious. No dining room so plan on eating in your vehicle. The waitresses were nice and the food came out quick. Just what you would expect. If you're looking for the local hot spot I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is it. Normally they are so busy you can barely get parking. Then there's the fact that they're a seasonal location. Only open from Mid-Spring, to early Autumn. That's all the bad I have. This is a burger and dogs joint. Lets put that out at the start. You go here for burgers, hot dogs, Root beers. It's not a fancy location. Another thing to remember, it's a Drive-in. This is a dying concept. But luckily the "Root Beer Stand" is a strong institution that has withstood and will continue to into the foreseeable future. On to the location. It's dirty. Can't be an out door location without it. Just a normal side effect. The kitchen is spotless however! They cook food cleanly and like it should be from a 1950's style drive in. Food, glorious food. For a location that specializes in burgers, fries and hot dogs, this place does it right. I go in with the knowledge that I'm getting a grease ball burger and a great foot long hot dog. The chili rocks, even if it makes my breath stink. Ha ha. They have it down to a science when you order your food, it's going to come out the same way every time. There are two reasons why I won't give five stars. First of all, the parking is terrible. I understand that it is a small space for lots of business, but some days it takes forever to get a spot! Secondly, the service can be sucky at times. This is understandable because they are always packed full of customers. I like the root beer stand. It has changed a lot over the years but the food is good. I am a hot dog and Dixie burger person. There root beer floats are like any other. The early day staff is better than evening or maybe they just get tired. They stay slammed from open until close. Now about the food... Hotdogs are great. Hamburgers are made to order and fresh patties. The meat is bought fresh locally. The Dixie sauce is great, I know it's simple to make but it's just so good. I love those onion rings.and the crinkle cut fries. Yummy. The service is ok but they have a lot going on so its understandable. The parking sucks they have really outgrown the small lot there in. The building is not much to look out but it serves the purpose. Overall it's a great place to eat, it has outdoor tables. It's better to call in than have to wait forever.
