The gulf view from Dock Street.

Wow! What a hidden gem Cedar Key is. We stayed in Harbor Master's "Mudflat Molly's" suite and couldn't be happier! The staff are all friendly and accommodating & genuinely care about their guest's experience. The entire island is beautiful & the place is about as laid back as it can be. This is our new favorite place & I can't wait to get back! Thank you Cedar Key & thank you Harbor Master Suites!

We LOVE staying here. Beautiful view, we stay in the Sea Pearl as a family and it's incredible! Rooms are clean, staff is great and in walking distance to everything! Highly recommend if you enjoy sight seeing and the Gulf of Mexico! Dolphins, sunrises and beautiful sunsets

Our new favourite. Our 2nd trip to Harbour Master Suites and we were NOT disappointed. A short 2 hour drive from home, w/in walking distance to eats and drinks (all good)(check out Duncans for bfast). The rooms are exceedingly clean and quiet. Comfortable beds (feels like home), nicely appointed with coffee maker, microwave, fridge. We love Harbour Masters.... the staff could not have been nicer. Ask for a room with a balcony... the views are spectacular.

Taken off of our balcony right after a rain. You can see the rainbow.

Perfect location right on the water. When we first walked in it smelled of mildew but that's to be expected when you're right over the water. Would definitely go back.

Interior of the "Forget Me Not" room

This might be the best hotel deal in the state of Florida. We booked the "Forget Me Not" room, and we were shocked to see what we got for less than $150 per night. The room is huge, with numerous windows along the length of two walls facing the gulf. It's open and airy, and you can open the windows to hear the sounds of the gulls and the water breaking on the pylons. The east facing side of the room (a perfect sunrise viewpoint) has a large deck stretching the length of the room with an extra bit jutting out in the center that you can fish from without accidentally hitting the rod on the overhang. You can't look out onto the gulf for more than 30 seconds without spotting dolphins playing in the water. The building is old but the interior is immaculate. I have to admit I was surprised at how clean and well kept it is. If you've ever stayed at a locally owned hotel in the Florida Keys, you probably know what I'm talking about -- you have to judge them with a different measuring stick. Harbour Master's rooms aren't like that at all. They look great. Parking is on the street and on a busy day, you won't find any. However, there is car parking near the trailer parking area in a few places. If you have to park out there (it's about a 5-minute walk to the hotel), they will take you back to your car in a golf cart so you can get your bags. We just waited until night fell and people started leaving Dock St., and then moved the car to a spot just a few steps from the room. Wireless internet access is free with the room, and it is VERY welcome. Cedar Key is a dead zone for cell service, so this is most often going to be your access to the rest of the world. But you're in Cedar Key to relax, right? Maybe just leave your phone in the room. :-) As far as room for improvement, there really isn't much (obviously, none is enough of an issue to affect my rating): The air conditioning is strong and feels great after a hot day on the water, but the A/C unit itself is on the deck. When it kicks on, if you're out on the deck, it's jarring and very loud. It would be nice if there was a little sound barrier there to help mitigate that somewhat. Roaches. You can't blame the hotel for this. Roaches are a fact of life in Florida, and especially in the old coastal areas. They can get into literally everything, and it's impossible to exclude them from an area without hermetically sealing it. The first night of our stay we found three of them in the bathroom, just hanging out together. They were quickly dispatched and disposed of, and we never saw a single bug after that. Maybe we made an example. I don't know. Out on the deck, they hang out underneath the wood planks during the day and come out at night. When we would go out onto the deck in the middle of the night, we'd see about half a dozen scatter into the crevices. They didn't get in our way. We never saw a single bug of any kind anywhere in the living area of the hotel room. Between the signs on the windows, the decorations in the rooms, some of the items sold in the gift shop, the owner's christian faith is certainly undeniable, but it's a bit heavy handed. I found it tiresome but easy to ignore. It's their business and they have the right to decorate as they see fit. Overall, you can get cheaper rooms in Cedar Key, but you CAN NOT get a better deal in Cedar Key, all things considered.

Every morning, coffee and sunrise from the balcony.

Rustic, authentic, clean, and very comfortable. Right on Dock Street by all the shops and restaurants. The hotel sits on pilings overlooking the water, with great sunsets.

Fog rolling in. View from room balcony. Castaway

Booked the Castaway unit on a whim! Loved it! Was able to fish on the back! Place was a little older but very nice. Enjoyed that the windows opened and could hear and see water and wildlife. Pretty neat one morning watching the fog roll in!

Beautiful garden areas on the way up to the suite

Had a choice of eating in the bar , the dining room or outside. We chose the dining room and glad we did. Overall all our service was very good. The server was friendly ( and very busy handling a lot of tables). I had an 8oz filet which was very good. I ordered it medium ( light pink center) and it cane out true Pittsburgh rare ( charred outside but rare inside- see pics) I was actually ok with it .... I order medium for my wife to have a couple bites even though I prefer more med rare. So this was def rare inside but I loved it ( I cut her a small end piece that was cooked a little more ) The steak comes with a salad, a vegetable and potato ( a lot of restaurants everything is alacarte - so for $40 for a prime 8oz filet with those sides included .... Not bad. Wife had shrimp and grit cake which is a large appetizer ( she had as her meal). Also had stuffed mushrooms to start that were very good. I think the town of Cedar Key will prob be one and done for us. Wanted to see it , it's quaint , old Florida ... but prob wouldn't come back. ( but only because we just wanted to check it off of a long list of Florida towns to visit) Pro tip: they don't take American Express , odd for a linen table cloth type of place .... So , it's ok to leave home without it

The outside was pretty full and we thought about sitting out there, but the idea of the bugs getting me later pushed us back inside. by the time we left at 6:40, there were only 3 other tables occupied in the dining room. We had a good dinner, although in reading some of the other reviews, we might have had the same server who seemed to be very slow and big gaps in between visiting our table - she seemed to disappear. I had the Calypso pasta with scallops, which was great. We had the stuffed mushrooms to start, which were yummy, but only 3. and my husband had a snapper fish of the day dish. He also enjoyed the pecan pie. And I enjoyed his ice cream. I was not a fan of any of the cocktails, so just had a glass of wine. My husband had the almond joy/mounds martini, whatever it was called, and he liked it a lot.

I had never been to Cedar Key, and was very excited. Pulling up to the B&B was a little magical. It was painted in pretty pastels, and we parked in front of their beautiful fenced in yard. It had majestic trees, and such an incredible, inviting vibe. Our room, Ms. Ida"s room, was beautifully decorated and inviting. It was large enough for our dog's large crate without making us feel cramped. The bathroom even had a beautiful claw footed tub. It was centrally located so we basically walked everywhere without issue. The Gulf of America was right there, and we really enjoyed watching the pods of dolphins frolick each night. The breakfast was delicious! We had a "Zippy", sausage and homemade biscuits. The Zippy was like a little southwestern quiche. Best of all were the people running this B&B. Heather and Cindi couldn't have made us feel more welcome, important, and frankly, loved! They were so kind and engaging, and totally doted on my dog. (Even made him his own scrambled eggs with cheese!) I had never been to Cedar Key, but I will definitely be back and will stay here again! Check it out!

Dock Street and all... but I really didn't even need to leave. It was very peaceful and relaxing and exactly what I was looking for. This BnB has it all. Charm, wonderful homemade breakfasts, friendly staff, great rooms... mine was on the 2nd floor and had its own private large balcony, accessible from the only other door up the stairs, next to the door to my room. The grounds were beautiful. I spent a good amount of time there. For just coffee, then breakfast, just before sunset in the afternoons... even just overlooking the grounds from the back porch. I walked around and looked at the different kinds of flowers... Alice pretty much does most of the landscaping. I spoke with Alice a good bit while enjoying breakfast in the garden one morning... very sweet and friendly, she truly loves the property and cares about her guests. It was my birthday weekend and my cousin and aunt contacted the BnB and spoke with Amanda. Amanda is who greeted me when I first arrived. She wished me a happy birthday and it took me some time before I figured out how she knew that. LOL When she showed me my room, I only asked about shampoo, she said because my hair was long, she guessed a 2 in 1 type of shampoo wouldn't suffice and I said, if it's something like Pantene, it would! After I returned from my afternoon out and about, there was a bottle of Pantene sitting on the decorate table outside my room. I'm not sure that it was readily available or if she actually went and bought it...but I was certainly appreciative and used it immediately. The next morning, after she read my notes on food issues (no chocolate, no almonds....) she had to ask me at breakfast what I couldn't eat again because my aunt and cousin requested gluten and dairy free, chocolate brownies to surprise me! I can and do eat gluten and dairy...but no chocolate. Amanda had in fact found gluten and dairy free brownies! They would have been wonderful...if I could eat them. Instead, she went out of her way once again and found me a vanilla cake on the fly... dressed it with hibiscus flowers and candles. She was very sweet and we talked for a while as well. Goes to show you how much they enjoy and appreciate what they do and the people they do it for. I enjoyed staying at this BnB, it encompasses old Florida and the local culture and I would definitely stay here again!

There are pluses: Room #12 did not face the street so it was reasonably quiet, the room was refurbished after Hurricane Helene in Sept 2024 and all is fairly new, the king bed is nicely supportive, coffee maker/ refridge/ microwave all work, WiFi also works outside on the deck. More pluses: closest hotel to the fishing pier, right out the door to the Dock Street restaurants, tee shirt shops, ice cream joint and wine bar. Very easy walking distance to all the 2nd Street restaurants, bars and artist shops. My complaints: lack of security and insufficient storage space. The hotel door is secured from the outside by way of an electronic push button lock. A four digit code opens it. The codes are changed (I'm told, but can't verify) with each new rental but there is no inside double lock!! No way on the inside to keep someone with a master code from entering the room while you are inside! No typical hotel mechanical inside system. Too late for my reservation but the next (potential) guest should check before booking. Made me apprehensive both nights. Room #12 is at street and deck level and has good handicap accessibility but this was a feature I didn't need. Room has a very large bathroom, at least 6' wide and 15' long with a wheelchair roll-in shower. Nice! But bathroom had 6' between the tiny wall mounted sink and the shower and only a really small cabinet (top surface only 12" by 24") that left almost no room for toiletries, pills and other misc travel items. The bedroom, while spacious (12' by 15') had the same lack of raised storage. We found the single standard folding luggage rack and put the larger of two suitcases on it. Fou the second suitcase, choices were: the small 36" round table, leave it open on the floor or return it to the car. The small 12" by 15" valet was almost worthless. I'm sad the people that run the hotel never tried to travel with luggage to the hotel. I've given the Salinity Hotel THREE STARS.
