Totally loved staying here. Had a mini family reunion. The owners were so friendly & accommodating. They provided fresh coffee in the morning that was delicious! Would recommend staying here to anyone! Love this place!!

Nice seating area to visit with friends

Let me start by saying what Firefly is not, to get that out of the way. It is not fancy or pretentious. It is not a large resort with lots to do. Now, that's that. What it is, is a hidden gem. It is peaceful. It is eclectic. It is clean and it is quirky. If you are working on a project, writing a book, creating art, or just seeking a quiet escape, this is your place. The caretakers/owners, Ian and Darrin are terrific hosts and make you feel extremely welcome. They are very friendly and personable, and will spend time with you, but they are not intrusive and will not encroach upon your space. They seem to recognize who is more open to conversation, and who is looking for privacy. And privacy is what you can get. The grounds are very well maintained and creatively beautiful. By the water, you will find chairs for peaceful reflections or contemplations. When sunset approaches, light some wood in the clay chimineas for a memorable evening. The cabins are immaculately clean. We stayed in one of the smaller cabins which had a small kitchenette with a small fridge, microwave, toaster, electric tea pot, and coffee pot. Speaking of coffee, if you don't drink it, you may want to start. There is something about having freshly ground fabulous coffee delivered, hanging outside your door in the morning, ready to brew. They have their own water filtration system, and is available anytime you wish. They supply several bottles in your room for convenience. Next time we go, we will plan for one of the larger cabins and a longer stay. And we know we will find peace, comfort, and stress reduction. Firefly Cottages isn't for everyone. But if you seek a unique, quiet, calm, comforting escape, then don't pass on this. Make the trip to Cedar Key, and find out why all the five star reviews.

We went to Cedar Key for a Christmas Getaway for several days and had the most amazing stay at The Firefly. I haven't been this relaxed in years. If you get a chance to get there, you'll end up wanting to write as long of a review as well lol. Why it's better: The value! We're no Globetrotters but we certainly frequently travel domestically and overseas. Too often the creature comforts that make all the difference between an unforgettable trip vs. just alright are compromised when not trying to break the bank. The accommodations, little perks, customer service, property itself and location make this an epic find. First, we loved how the cottages have been updated and improved without eliminating the occasional character flaws that make it unique and authentic. It was very well done. Also, in addition to getting B&B level service and interaction with the inn keeper-owners, who are by far one of the properties greatest assets, you still get the privacy and anonymity you might crave from a hotel or stand alone cabin. Basically no one is forcing you to interact and be friendly like at a B&B I like to keep to myself on vacation. For us it felt like the best of both worlds. THE WATER & COFFEE !!!! OMG, I've never managed to stay so hydrated on a getaway. Delivered daily are several liters of the water they purify on site and it's divine (especially for a water snob). Every month or so the owners head back to civilization to select single origin coffees from around the world and grind beans daily for the guests and deliver to your porch. They also give you a couple of chocolates in your coffee goodie bag that lends a nice touch. Last but certainly not least, the inn keeper-owners, Ian & Darrin. They make sure you feel at home even before you arrive! They seem to have mastered the fine balance of great customer service, interaction and attentiveness that seems to be a dying art. I fully admit that my standards tend to be pretty high and these guys hit a home run. Location: We found the location to be ideal. The local grocer and gas station are within 1.5 metro city blocks and the dollar general is a 12 min drive. The property itself is on the east side of 24 with almost every cottage offering the most serene view of sunrise and you are just far away enough (3metro blocks) from the more populated area with condos preventing the distractions that come with it, so it's just you, the enchanting sounds of birds & nature and colors that only Mother Nature can create. Admittedly, since it's located on SR 24, The only way in and out of Cedar key, I did hear several cars around 8ish, but not so much that it detracted from it. Accommodations: The cottages are arranged to feel spacious yet cozy. The bed and linens were higher end hotel comfortable (best nights of sleep in weeks for me). The kitchenettes have everything you need to prepare full meals. We brought several of our meal kits we get online and had no issue. You may want to bring a few disposable Tupperware type containers. They have full service for 4 (dinnerware and flatware) but limited options to store left overs although they do keep foil in the kitchen as well. We stayed in the writers cottage that had a small front porch with chairs looking into the courtyard of sorts and a fairly secluded 2 level deck with ample tables and chairs and cute lights strung up. You really can't go wrong booking here. I'm pretty sure it would satisfy even the pickiest traveler. We liked it so much we've already booked our next trip!

What a charming, quaint establishment. My fiancé and I came to Cedar Key to Elope and get married during Covid. This was our first time there as we weren't able to check our anything before coming, so needless to say I was a little concerned. I picked Firefly cottages based on the other reviews I found on line. Everyone gave them great reviews and I do too. First, I felt everything was extra clean and the little things that Ian and Darren did to ensure your stay durning Covid made us feel comfortable and at ease. They were very commutative and always answered any questions I had. They sent out great emails with tons of helpful hints and suggestions for things to do. There was a great information package in the room as well. If we had any questions Ian and Darren were always helpful to offer any suggestions. We stayed in Paradise cottage and it truly felt like a little home away from home. It had everything we needed to cook a few meals and stay in a couple nights. We loved the view, the grounds and our little back porch that we sat on every morning to drink our coffee. The coffee was such a treat. It was fresh ground and delivered that we made with fresh reverse osmosis water that was also delivered daily by Ian and Darren. Their attention to detail and the care, love and devotion they have for their establishment really showed. We honestly couldn't have asked for anything more and they made our vacation/wedding/honeymooning so special. Firefly cottages will always have a special place in our hearts that will be back in the future to stay with them for years to come.

    Sunrise from the porch

The cabin was comfortable and impeccable, Ian and Darrin were wonderful, the opportunity to have (freshly ground/delivered) coffee on the porch when watching sunrise over the bay was lovely, we could have breakfast or lunch at home with the fully functional kitchenette, we read entire novels, we walked to the center of town for sunset and seafood, we rented bikes from next door and toured the isle... a great place for a relaxing vacation!

It was a one bed, one bathroom that had a sitting area, kitchenette, and balcony. We first noticed how clean the room was. In general, that was true but I found random pieces of hair that weren't ours in the bathroom, on the couch, and who knows where else. My toddler daughter had a long strand of someone else's hair wrapped up in her hair so if may have come from the floor or the couch. That was a little bit of a turn off. The sleep accommodations were nice. The bed was comfortable and there was more than enough room for two adults and a toddler. We loved that the porch was screened in as we enjoyed being out there. There was ample parking in a carport just below the unit. The location is great. While the town is small, this place was steps away from two breakfast spots, the local pizza restaurant, and several shops. It's also a very short walk to Dock Street, where the Harbour Master Suites office and their Dilly Dally Gally is, along with other restaurants and bars. While the place could use a little more attention to detail with cleaning, overall, we enjoyed our stay and the check-in and checkout process was quick. I would be interested to return at some point to see what the room options are like at the main site.

Two night minimum but I asked if we could pay extra for one night since it was approx 2pm in the afternoon. I can't believe they let us but we are so glad they did. I don't recommend waiting to the last minute as the town was bustling and everywhere we called was booked. Two bedroom, two bath with a full kitchen and amazing view. The pool was out of commission and unfortunately the hot tub was not so hot. With that being said I will absolutely look into booking this location again in the future.
