My boyfriend wanted to plan a quick getaway for us, and chose the Cedar Key Bed and Breakfast. We live in South Florida, so it wasn't a bad drive to feel like we stepped back in time 50 years. And better yet, they are dog friendly, so our baby could come with us. I had never been to Cedar Key, and was very excited. Pulling up to the B&B was a little magical. It was painted in pretty pastels, and we parked in front of their beautiful fenced in yard. It had majestic trees, and such an incredible, inviting vibe. Our room, Ms. Ida"s room, was beautifully decorated and inviting. It was large enough for our dog's large crate without making us feel cramped. The bathroom even had a beautiful claw footed tub. It was centrally located so we basically walked everywhere without issue. The Gulf of America was right there, and we really enjoyed watching the pods of dolphins frolick each night. The breakfast was delicious! We had a "Zippy", sausage and homemade biscuits. The Zippy was like a little southwestern quiche. Best of all were the people running this B&B. Heather and Cindi couldn't have made us feel more welcome, important, and frankly, loved! They were so kind and engaging, and totally doted on my dog. (Even made him his own scrambled eggs with cheese!) I had never been to Cedar Key, but I will definitely be back and will stay here again! Check it out! read more

Nestled right in the neighborhood on a corner on 3rd St, I parked my car when I arrived in town and it never moved until I was leaving town... I walked everywhere! Dock Street and all... but I really didn't even need to leave. It was very peaceful and relaxing and exactly what I was looking for. This BnB has it all. Charm, wonderful homemade breakfasts, friendly staff, great rooms... mine was on the 2nd floor and had its own private large balcony, accessible from the only other door up the stairs, next to the door to my room. The grounds were beautiful. I spent a good amount of time there. For just coffee, then breakfast, just before sunset in the afternoons... even just overlooking the grounds from the back porch. I walked around and looked at the different kinds of flowers... Alice pretty much does most of the landscaping. I spoke with Alice a good bit while enjoying breakfast in the garden one morning... very sweet and friendly, she truly loves the property and cares about her guests. It was my birthday weekend and my cousin and aunt contacted the BnB and spoke with Amanda. Amanda is who greeted me when I first arrived. She wished me a happy birthday and it took me some time before I figured out how she knew that. LOL When she showed me my room, I only asked about shampoo, she said because my hair was long, she guessed a 2 in 1 type of shampoo wouldn't suffice and I said, if it's something like Pantene, it would! After I returned from my afternoon out and about, there was a bottle of Pantene sitting on the decorate table outside my room. I'm not sure that it was readily available or if she actually went and bought it...but I was certainly appreciative and used it immediately. The next morning, after she read my notes on food issues (no chocolate, no almonds....) she had to ask me at breakfast what I couldn't eat again because my aunt and cousin requested gluten and dairy free, chocolate brownies to surprise me! I can and do eat gluten and dairy...but no chocolate. Amanda had in fact found gluten and dairy free brownies! They would have been wonderful...if I could eat them. Instead, she went out of her way once again and found me a vanilla cake on the fly... dressed it with hibiscus flowers and candles. She was very sweet and we talked for a while as well. Goes to show you how much they enjoy and appreciate what they do and the people they do it for. Its impossible to not love this place. A historic B&B in a small town on the water. Centrally located (then again, Cedar Key is only a couple of square miles, so everything is centrally located), dog friendly, comfortable, and friendly. We stayed here with our furkid, Bruce - he says hi - in Nanna's Pantry. It is a smaller room right on the patio, which does bring up the one negative. Cedar Key is a slow small town. Everything shuts down at 9. Therefore, people will hangout on the patio at the B&B and if you're trying to sleep, it will be very difficult. Even with earplugs. That said, the room was very comfortable with multiple fans/AC (which I imagine would be needed in the summer) and a small bathroom and shower, but adequate. A binder full of area recommendations is in your room, but again, pretty much everything is in walking or biking distance. The owners offer bicycles and golf carts for the guests and their large courtyard is fenced for your puppy to run around in. There were at least half a dozen other dogs there during our stay, including the owner's, and Bruce had a blast (they also have 2 cats, who didn't so much like Bruce). They allow the dogs everywhere, including inside the dining room as they only have 1 or 2 outside tables. Breakfast is served at 9AM every day and is over by 9:30. The hosts serve a hot breakfast (which was delicious) and put out breads for toast, cereal, coffee and juice - some genius thought of bringing their own champagne for mimosas, and I need to be friends with this man. They also leave hot water for tea out 24 hours and there is a gigantic tub of pretzels and a large, always full, cookie jar as well. The rooms all have DVD players and they have a collection you can watch. On top of thoroughly enjoying our stay and talking to other guests and the owner, we also left something behind which they graciously saved and sent back to us. I'm not sure why you would stay anywhere else when you come here. Don't know if we'll be back - we pretty much did everything there was to do - but if we do come back, I know where we'll stay. read more

Historic bed and breakfast that is super dog friendly. There was a bottomless cookie jar! Need I say more?! The location was perfect. Steps away from the water and a short walking distance to the main strip with the restaurants. They have bikes too if you want. The rooms were clean with plenty of towels and lovely antique decor. The breakfast in the morning was two eggs and French toast, coffee, tea, cereal and bagels and English muffins. Though we prefer trying breakfast at different places, unlike other towns, there are not a lot of breakfast options in Cedar Key so the breakfast offered here saved us. Dog friendly! Doesn't matter the weight either! Usually places tolerate dogs but this bnb welcomes them with open arms and I love that. read more

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in the Girls Room which was upstairs with a private balcony. This was our first trip to Cedar Key and we were very impressed with this B&B. The staff and owner were very polite, friendly and accommodating to our special dietary needs. The breakfasts had large portions and were great. The gardens and old original oak trees were beautiful and well kept. The Inn itself was clean and inviting. They even had bicycles you could ride around the island. It's also very close to the water. One suggestion is to make the grounds smoke free. Oh. My. Word. Seriously. Run, do not walk, to book this place for your next getaway!!! This was our first time to Cedar Key, FL and it is THE BEST getaway we have ever had. We went there for our anniversary and it exceeded all expectations. This place is absolute heaven on earth. You feel as if you have been dipped into a pool of peace. This time we stayed at Sunrise 1 room, which is located down the road from the main house. The panoramic view of the water is incredible. However, next time I would stay at the main house, in the "Girls Room" which was my favorite room there. (We took a tour of unoccupied rooms.) I would stay at the main house for convenience purposes only -- Sunrise was fantastic and included a full kitchen, etc. however I'd opt for main house next time. It is ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL. Alice, the owner is a gem. This woman oozes with love and care. The manager Sandy goes the extra mile with everything she does for guests. Cedar Key is truly a town where "time has stopped". You feel like you are living in a whole other era. I mean, it's amazing. Words can't even describe it. And these ladies make your stay in the city all the better. The house is amazing in an of itself. Things like the bottomless cookie jar and the absolutely scrumptious breakfasts are just the icing on the cake. They have bicycles available free for use to guests as well, to tour the island. The price is just right as well. You will not be disappointed with your stay here. This is my favorite place other than my own home. Not only does the B&B have the most incredible property on the entire island, but the experience is unmatched. I have never felt like a guest here; only as though I had been welcomed home after a long journey away. Each room is sweetly decorated with old Florida history and whimsey provided by "Miss Alice." While there are certain creature comforts in every room, you'd be amiss to turn that television on instead of sitting on the porch with a fresh cup of coffee or tea, a good book, and the cat who lounges around with guests. Breakfast is incredible every single morning and the hospitality of the staff is equally a blessing. Alice Phillips is one of the kindest, most joyful and authentic ladies you will ever encounter. She's been on the island for quite some time, knows everyone, and is known by all. She always makes perfect recommendations for day trips and excursions based on your likes and interests. The B&B has golf carts and bicycles for rent and I strongly encourage you to go out and explore. Dock Street is fun, but it's not everything the island has to offer. Truly, I will never stay anywhere else if I am visiting Cedar Key. It has become my "home away from home" and I have truly felt that way with every stay. read more

Gorgeous, gorgeous property with beautiful people who run it!! I'm usually not one for B&Bs, but since my 11-yr-old son had never stayed at one, I wanted him to get an idea of what they were all about & chose his Spring Break to do it. What an awesome experience! From making my reservations from Los Angeles w Sandy, to checking in w her and Alice, they were such genuine, sweet ladies who took a shine to my little guy & weren't shy about wanting to treat him like a king. They generously showed him the bottomless homemade cookie jar (whose cookies very much resembled my own grandmother's secret recipe & helped me reminisce & remember her) & they showed him the hot chocolate/tea/coffee station as well as palming him some Andes chocolate mints with a wink and a pat on the head. We rented a golf cart for the duration of our stay and were run down the rules/given the agreement to sign by Alice, the proprietress. She explained the driver must be at least 21 & have a valid driver's license in order to operate the cart around the island. However, she kept speaking as if my son would drive it (which was absolutely what he wanted to do!) but then corrected herself as she nudged him. I myself learned to drive on my grandfather's golf cart, so I thought it an appropriate family tradition to allow him the same freedom. We found an empty parking lot & I instructed him the same way my father had instructed me: Automatic transmissions are ONLY to be driven w the RIGHT foot, always keep your eyes scanning the road & around you, & slowly curl your toes on the accelerator to begin moving. Oh, & don't panic; stay calm. We stayed in the "Treehouse Suite" for the first 2 nights, then in "Jack's Room" for the third, bc Treehouse was already reserved for what'd be our final night. When we go back someday, we'll definitely stay in the Treehouse again. It has a small balcony overlooking the 700-yr-old tree & its swing, plus the well-manicured courtyard which has a koi pond & butterfly garden. The Treehouse also has a kitchen with full-size refrigerator that contains water & soda you may purchase for $1/ea by leaving your offerings to the beverage gods in the provided container. They use the honor system here :) There's what's referred to as a "water closet" in the Treehouse bathroom - that's a walk-in shower stall; no bathtub. Jack's Room, above the kitchen & at the top of the spiral staircase, has both a water closet & claw-footed bathtub. Each room has maybe 10-15 satellite TV channels & a DVD player so you can play movies borrowed from the downstairs library. The library also contains books (duh) & many board games. The Treehouse also features a selection of board games. Our only complaint was the fact that the wifi in both rooms was spotty & weak at best and that the satellite TV reception was pretty snowy. However, I suspect this is simply due to the remote location of the island and is no fault of the management. So if you're hoping to binge-watch Hulu or Netflix & Chill, Cedar Key may not be the place for you. Conversely, if you want to explore the shore at low tide, or exercise some brain cells by reading, or want quality time playing checkers or cards - do not pass Go; this is where you belong. The kind but shy maintenance man lives on the property in the shack-style room called the "Ritz Cracker." You can probably already get the pun. There's also the friendly House Cat, "BB" (which stands for, you guessed it, Bed & Breakfast). It was explained to us that he was a feral cat rescue, which made perfect sense after we explored the island a little & came upon many ferals on the island. Each room contained the "Room Bible" which contained a detailed history of the property, its owners, old photos & anecdotes relating to their families, the island & the property. The "Bible" also has menus for pretty much every restaurant in town, as well as important phone numbers & operating hours of local businesses. Continental-style breakfast is set out at 7 & breakfast served at 9, but seating can be limited. Either get there a bit early or make a special request of the ladies preparing the meals for u to take your breakfast to your room. They kindly obliged us twice when we requested the latter, telling us to simply leave the dirty dishes in our room and they'd collect them later. The first day of our visit was sunny, but turned to intermittent thunderstorms for the next several days. This made activity planning difficult, so we explored the grounds of the property more than a few times. During one of our expeditions, we spotted a croquet & bocce set, which we put to use during a break in the weather. Everywhere u look, there's attention to detail; from the garden accoutrements, to the shortcut paths, to the manicured lawn & garden. Everything is well-maintained and the ladies seem to think of everything. They genuinely care abt their guests. We got big hugs upon check-in and check-out :) read more

Though the owners were very nice and welcoming, the grounds at the main house were pretty, Guinness (their dog) was just lovely and breakfast was a nice touch - the old room, musty smell and tiny bathroom that you couldn't move in were all disappointing for such a high price. We stayed in the Sunrise Suite, first floor which is not part of the main house. The couples staying above us were quite loud and if we didn't hear their conversations, we heard them dragging chairs from room to room. It certainly wasn't the quiet and relaxing getaway we had in mind... Parking there was minimal and the outdoor landscaping was not maintained. That should have been a sign of what to expect inside. Dated furniture, light bulbs in the kitchen out, multiple outlets that were overloaded, stained comforter, a shower you couldn't lift your arms up in without hitting a wall...we were so disappointed. At $200 per night, our expectations were much higher. The view was beautiful, but there was nowhere to sit outside to enjoy it and the noise from the other guests put a damper on enjoying it from the inside. Overall - disappointing. read more

Cedar Key B&B is a great place to stay if you're tired of the same old cookie cutter hotels. This was like staying at your Grandma's house, antiques, quilts and personal touches make you feel welcome. Self-serve coffee, juice, toast, cereal and fruit are available at 7 or shortly after the cats are fed. Be careful when you step out your door, you never know where they might be taking a nap. A full breakfast (owners choice not yours) is served around 9am. We stayed a week in the Honeymoon Cottage which does not share walls or floors with any other room but it's just off the porch (which has a communal fridge) and convenient to the breakfast nook. There is a semi-private patio next to the room with 2 chairs and small tables for quiet place to getaway if the porch is too noisy. They do request TV volume noise be kept to a minimum after 10pm. The B&B is at the corner of F Street and Third Street (yes both are streets) just minutes from anything in the city. I would recommend renting a golf cart or using a bike since parking for a car is hard to find. If you are expecting night life Cedar Key is not for you. Most businesses are run by the owners and close early. There are no fast food or chains in Cedar Key, the closest is in Chiefland 30 miles away. "The Market" at Third and D does have a Deli in the back of the store. Communication with the outside world is rare so if you can't put your cell phone down you'll probably have a panic attack in Cedar Key, communication is done face to face in real time. I tried to send pictures to family but my cell phone was always on "No Service". It was a good place to get away and de-stress. Everything was clean and well maintained. Just remember the B&B is over 100 years old so it does have some "quirks" but it's well worth the money and what little inconvenience one might encounter. If you have the slightest mobility problem be sure to request a ground floor room, the stairs are steep and might pose a problem. read more

Right outside our room was a terrific porch to drink my morning tea and visit with the local resident cat, B.B. Also, enjoyed the pristine gardens on the grounds. Excellent detail to every part if this peaceful get a way! Each morning our homemade breakfast was delightful! Helping ourselves to homemade cookies and pretzels, nice touch too. Did I say that Alice gave us a private tour of the grounds? Immaculate detail to everything she does. She also has an exceptional staff that supports her passion for her B&B. This is a classic B&B in the best tradition. Our room was large, quiet, and had an amazing bath - modern shower in addition to the usual claw-footed tub. Usually I feel like a bull in a china shop in B&Bs, but here there was real room for all our gear. I was with a kayak group. Breakfast was moved up an hour early so we could leave on schedule. The innkeepers, Alice and Bill, did everything you expect of experienced B&B hosts - they made us feel at home. Beds are large, the Internet WiFi is free - important because cell phone coverage in Cedar Key spotty. Breakfast pleased both husbands (enough of it) and wives (gourmet quality). Cedar Key is still a sleepy old coastal town. Go to kayak, fish, or simply relax - but by all means, stay at the Cedar Key B&B. read more

Our Stay from May 9th through May 11th, 2017 My boyfriend and I wanted a mini vacation and decided that we would try the B&B. This was my first time ever staying at a B&B and I have to say it was the best ever! The rooms were clean and stocked with everything you could possibly think of. The kitchen has every appliance that you could need, including coffee pot! The cabinets are stocked with coffee, filters, sugar and tons of dishes. It was really nice! We stayed in the Tree House, which was an amazing experience. It had a balcony with a view of the courtyard and you could even see a little bit of the ocean through the houses and trees. The bathroom was also fully stocked and had more than enough towels and other amenities. Our room had a little desk area that had a pen and a little journal so you could log your stay in it, which I thought was such a cute touch. There were a lot of little decorations all around the B&B, in and out of the rooms, that made it very homey. After our first night, we went downstairs for some coffee at around 7:30am. It was already made and there were pitchers of orange juice, cranberry juice and water available as well. Alice and Nancy were in the kitchen preparing breakfast for all the guests. Because this was my first experience, I honestly didn't expect anything more than some bagels, toast and cereal items. I was very surprised when a wonderful plate came to the table with a scrambled egg burrito, a delicious maple biscuit and some breakfast sausages. Alice has fresh homemade cookies in her "bottomless cookie jar" every morning that are absolutely delicious! We took a couple of cookies and sat in the courtyard for a bit and enjoyed the morning. Later we decided we wanted to tour the town for the day so we rented a golf cart from Alice for 24 hours. That was the best decision! We had such a great time exploring and being able to get around town without having to take our vehicle with a boat attached everywhere we wanted to go. Alice also has bicycles available to use for free if you rather take a bike ride. Cedar Key has a lot of history and some really amazing views. Our breakfast the next morning was just as yummy as the first. We had some homemade french toast with fresh cut strawberries, a fried egg and some breakfast sausage. Brie was our cook for the morning. She did an amazing job! We didn't eat dinner at the B&B on any of the nights we stayed, but we will have to the next time we stay. This is a great getaway with some really friendly people. This is one of the most peaceful, wonderful, beautiful places we've ever stayed and will gladly stay again! I can't recommend this place enough. If you're looking for home away from home, this is it! I know one reviewer complained about no cell service at the B&B. I didn't have any signal while in our room, but the courtyard did have some signal and I was able to make calls there. Depending on your cell carrier, most places in Cedar Key have very limited cell service. There are some spots that are better than others, but it's up to you to walk around and figure it out. However, most places do have WiFi, so that's a big plus. As a suggestion I would recommend using Facebook messenger or other apps that work strictly on WiFi. Hope that helps! My guy and I spent a delicious weekend at this heavenly place. If you crave quiet, a sea side ambience, and a bit of vintage Americana--I think this is the place for you. The B & B itself is charming and quaint, pristinely clean. In between our lazy naps on the king sized bed and relaxing bath in the claw footed tub, we counted at least 10 doilies adorning our room. The atmosphere will remind you of summers at grandma's house, including the mouth watering pancakes and breakfast pizzas served on tables overlooking the garden. And, oh, the garden! Lush ferns, Saw Palmettos, and an ancient live oak tree providing shade and endless topics of conversation between the guests. One of the staff members even got married under that live oak the weekend we were there....talk about magical! By far, the best part of the B & B were Alice, Gail, and the rest of the staff. Their laid back, easy going attitudes and friendliness reminded me so much of hanging out at a loved one's home. I'd definitely go back there again! This is an amazing place. Its gorgeous well-maintained grounds and historic buildings are impeccable but with loads of character. The rooms are exactly as advertised, the beds are comfortable, the water pressure is excellent, and it's cozy and homey. In fact, the staff truly treats their guests like they're at home. I felt welcomed and valued from the moment I stepped through the door until I pulled away to head home. I'm a vegetarian, and they accommodated me at breakfast with a cheerful attitude (breakfast is amazing). They went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that we not only enjoyed our stay at the B&B but also made the most of our time on the island. They have a wealth of information and a sense of pride in the community, which is evident at every turn. And the cookies! The cookies are fantastic. The bottomless cookie jar was well used by everyone staying there. I can't wait to have some more! If I had to say any negatives, I would say the WiFi is spotty and the free bikes could use some maintenance. But those are small items in an overall five-star experience. We much prefer places like CKB&B over monolith hotels. The small room that we rented for three nights as an "experiment" was more than adequate, including the shower. The quaint facility, great staff and well maintained grounds make one feel welcome. Our room was clean as was the bedding. Area parking is adequate and at worst we had to walk one block...oh my! Each breakfast was exceptional. Someone looking for sharp concrete corners and robotic staff will be disappointed here.
