Not wanting to live these two weeks in a typical, basic, chain hotel room, I searched for something different. During my online research I came across the Allison House Bed and Breakfast. I called and spoke with John the innkeeper. John was courteous, attentive and honest. I explained to him my needs and he guaranteed me the Allison House could accommodate us comfortably. I subsequently reserved the whole Inn for the two weeks. From the second we arrived at the Allison House John and his Wife Bek were amazing. They assisted the whole group in getting organized and comfortable in our rooms. I chose the Governor's Room (naturally). Being away from home for such a long time is always difficult, but John and Bek made the experience much easier. Every morning breakfast was served right on time. Upon returning each evening the Inn and all rooms were cleaned and ready for us to unwind, have dinner and continue working. There were nights that John and Bek even made us dinner! On the weekends, John's recommendations for local sightseeing and restaurants was spot on. Overall, the Allison House was a wonderful experience, I recommend staying there if only for a night as you pass through Quincy or for a longer period as I did.

Having said that my husband found this little gem that excepts small dogs. The Inn Keeper Bek was so gracious, the room was comfy and quiet and the homemade breakfast was over the top. If you find yourself looking for a place to stay with or without a small four legged companion I highly recommend Millhouse Inn!

She wants to try to accommodate any need you might have. The house has that old southern charm, and is filled with lots of antiques and interesting pieces. Even though she has 3 small children there, downstairs, they are fairly quiet, and the house is peaceful. The rooms are spacious and have couches or chairs in them, so that if you have visitors, you are comfortable sitting in the room to talk. There is also a little table and chairs located upstairs beside the balcony, for which to socialize or have a more private meal, as opposed to eating in the dinning room, or talking in the parlor where everyone can see and hear. She asked us what time we wanted breakfast, and we got to choose what we wanted her to make, even if it wasn't on the menu. It's obvious that someone has spent lots of money outside and in to make this place charming, and comfortable. It was like being at grandma's house, just more private. Cons: Limited parking, We were told there was wifi, but something happened to the router, and she said she would have it fixed, but we stayed 3 nights, and it was never fixed. Only one room has its own bathroom, so the other guest have to use a communal bathroom at the end of the hall. The place wasn't filthy, but it wasn't hotel standard clean either. There was random stuff under the bathroom cabinets and in the closets...like someone lived in there when there were no guest. There was toothpaste dots on our bathroom mirror from the last guest, and some of the furniture throughout had thick dust on it. The decor was some-what random, and the comforters and other fabrics clashed a bit with the wallpaper, but that didn't annoy too much. I pulled about 5 fleas off of the children, that's no infestation, but not cool non-the less. The owner lives in the house with her dogs, yet guest have to pay a hefty sum if they have their pet stay. Okay, the biggest no-no. The Dog was in the kitchen while she was making breakfast. And I know that because when she was bringing food out to us, he was barking and scratching at the door. She even picked him up once and threw him back in there. Dog hair flies and floats in the air, and I definitely don't want the person preparing to be touching the dog during the prep. process. Our friends were staying also, and she said she saw roaches. The grounds need work. It's cute with little benches and so forth, but they're so covered in algae and yuckiness from the trees above, that you can't actually sit on them. The bird feeders and house also need to be pressure washed, as algae is creeping up the walls and steps. Last but not least, our fruit that was served each morning was bad, fermented, slimy. Every morning. And that is usually the bulk of what we eat. Summary: All in all, it was comfortable, with several small careless mistakes on the owner's part, but she's new and learning. When you stay at a bed and breakfast and pay that price, you want it to be as close to perfect as possible, and it was more like staying with a friend. Definitely better than staying at a hotel in Bainbridge. We may stay there again, but I can't recommend it to friends until some of these issues are addressed.

Nestled beneath an old growth canopy draped with Spanish moss and surrounded by a variety of camellias, sits an old Victorian-style home (1897) that is sure to capture your imagination. We didn't stay at the bed and breakfast, but still enjoyed a delightful bite to eat, some refreshing peach tea, wonderful hospitality and best of all, stories. The owners, Scotty and Cathy, live in the home. Scotty was a wonderful host and provided an overview of the home's past, detailed accounts of odd occurrences and pictures of unexplained aberrations. Scotty is a collector and has many of his prized items on display throughout the home. Scotty and Cathy have done a great job preserving the home, its legacy and the charm that is Monticello, FL. In summary, I am glad we went and plan to visit again.

She even sells a cook book of her recipes! This really is a hidden gem! It is walking distance to down town Monticello which offers some great places to eat and shop. This Bed $ Breakfast is decorated Victorian style and was emaculate. We stayed in the Homegard Suite with a king size bed and a separate little room which held a twin day bed. The bathroom was quaintly decorated with a pedestal sink and free standing tub surrounded by lovely flowery shower curtains. Karen came to check on us since we were a late check in. The bed was very comfortable and roomy. Breakfast was served the next morning at 830 a.m. sharp - tasty and filling with coffee available before that time. There is fresh baked scones as well as beverages in the Frig.. We stayed in the Sadie's Room on the 1st floor which was nice. It was clean and relatively quiet. The breakfast was very good. Negatives: One of the things that is lacking in this B&B (and many other B&B's, hotels) is suitcase holders. The Hinson House seems to have only 2 for the entire B&B. Our room had only one but luckily we were the only guests that evening, so we were able to get the other one. The B&B is located on one of the main drags through town. Vehicles go by relatively fast and can be dangerous when pulling out if one doesn't exercise caution. It was a delight talking with David and Olivia. If traveling through this part of Florida, we definitely will be staying here again.
