We found the restaurant was re opened under new owners so we went for our anniversary . The interior was much nicer waited at the bar and we were attended by a sloppy really sweaty bartender. Got our booth ordered the special for both of us 20 minutes later were told had only one of specials. So I ordered something else. When finally served my wife's meal really really cold. It was the special so she had to order something else. That took a long time I ate then she finally ate so good anniversary They offered a free key line pie declined. Bad service cold food will not return. I was to upset when I wrote this review last night because of our anniversary . I did meet the owner and he is a nice person and he was busy working the tables himself Things sometimes happen we liked the atmosphere and changes he has done. I went to Harborside for dinner with 2 friends. We got to the restaurant around 6:30 p.m. and it was very busy. We know that restaurants have been suffering from staff shortages, so we knew we wouldn't be upset if we had to wait. We were seated quickly and had a very short wait once seated. We were greeted by a lovely waitress named Katie W. She took our orders with a smile and was very attentive. The food was excellent. I had the fish tacos which were mild and very tasty along with the sweet potato waffle fries. My friends had the fish sandwich (which was HUGE) and they said delicious. Good food and good service. My family and I came here for dinner after a day at Legoland. We ordered appetizers and had the Lobster bites, Bang Bang shrimp (the bomb...mmm), Ahi Tuna (which was my 1st time and would order again), fried dill pickles and were very happy with all of it. Had dinner with my wife and daughter last night. It was our first visit. It will not be the last. The service was excellent. We did not feel rushed and we always had a full drink. Food was very good. Bang bang shrimp appetizer was not too spicy and a great starter. I had the fried catfish bites entree and it was delicious. The breading had a very unique and flavorful taste. Wife had the broiled platter and she loved it. Finally my daughter had the blackened catfish pasta dish. It looked awesome. The dining area has fantastic views of the lake. Wonderful meal. Superior service. Beautiful view. Excellent experience. I convinced my mother to try out Harborside after her usual suggestion of eating at Red Lobster. Nothing against RL, I just prefer to eat local. So after some research we ended up at this restaurant, and what a wonderful decision it was! Walked in, were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated within a couple minutes. The restaurant has a very modern feel and the expansive windows overlooking the lake were a great touch. Our server was a delight! She really went out of her way to take care of us and make sure we enjoyed our meal. It definitely seems that customer service was a top priority for this staff. Now, for the food: I went with the healthier option of the BBQ salmon and seasonal veggies, while mom got the Louisiana catfish over pasta. We also got a couple drinks, a coconut mojito (sadly it was pretty weak) and a glass of wine. No huge complaints about our meals. We both enjoyed the flavors and they were great portion sizes. This is definitely a place I would visit again next time I'm in town. I'm looking forward to trying out more of the menu options. read more

Eating here was a delightful experience. Our first visit, first impressions were very positive. Our waitress, Lexus T, answered our questions about the menu and kept a close eye on us. She appeared at just the right time between courses to make our dining very pleasant. Lovely view from our window booth. The food was, well yummy. We go here by boat every 6 months just to see if something positive has changed. It hasn't. The house salad is uninspired and could only be liked by those who crave something boring. Picture iceberg lettuce, some white cheese, some green olives (why?) and small small bits of diced tomato....that's it. No onion, no wedges of tomato, no cucumber, no carrot, no color to it at all. My companions had grouper sandwiches since we were told it was fresher than the Mahi. I ordered a grouper lunch plate. The fish arrived and in both the sandwiches and the plate, the "grouper" was the thinnest slice of fish I have seen as represented as this species. It looked more like tilapia. My fish was coated in oily seasoning when I had ordered it simply grilled. Of no matter because as I got close to the tail it was mush and inedible. My side was some cold potato chips. The buns for the sandwiches was about as close to hot dog quality as you can get...terrible. Tomato slice for the sandwich? Nope, Onion? Nope, Lettuce? Nope. The location is great, the building is attractive and the service is good...but the food is well below par given the price point. read more

The missus and I were dining with friends on the Sunday evening before Christmas and I was excited to check out the newly recast Harborside Restaurant in Winter Haven. I was hoping for at least three and one half stars but alas, I can only afford the experience two. Let's start with the venue itself. The facility has been remodeled in what could be called a "warm" battleship gray with high ceilings and an open floor plan more amenable to eavesdropping and twerking than anything approaching fine dining. And by fine, I mean, serious eats done with some joie de vivre, that's all. I am NOT a foodie. I am a consumer. I eat therefor I am. I am just at-home with a Chinette piled with smoky pulled pork as I am with aperitifs at Ma Maison. I only judge what is put before me in the context of which it is presented. The bar is located centrally toward the lakeside view which is a big plus for ambiance leaving young men free to ponder the dim reflection of the blondes doing hair-flips behind them whilst they clink their longnecks. Okay okay, I'm digressing but points off for the booths being so poorly lit that I had to use my friend's cell phone to light up the large plastic laminated menu that does not match the one online. Never a good thing. As I've already stated, the space is voluminous and by extension bears the same acoustics as a beer hall in October. Great for parties but suck city for intimacy. Bear that in mind when you planning your gustatorial adventures. I am being facetious when I say adventures but that segues nicely into the food itself. I say food as that is an accurate description and not a mere courtesy. The portions were large enough to sate my appetite if not my palate. Other than that, theirs not much to report other than I had the seafood combo which included three sea meats with jalapeno threatened cheese grits on the side. I say threatened for there was no real evidence of actual contact between said grits and a jalapeno. Hearsay only here. The temperature was a bit less than optimal given the time of delivery. If you're a fan of grits then you know how they get when their heat subsides. Did I mention the presentation? No. So then we're okay then, moving on... Do I sound nonplused? I am, I am. The only bright spots were the speed and friendliness of the server. She was properly attentive and cordial. The maitre's engagement was cursory at best and did not linger long enough to elicit anything but the reactionary, "Fine..." before jaunting away to elicit more of the same from the less than half full house. I suspect her feet where killing her and needed to check the perimeter occasionally to restore blood flow to her toes. Our party was not the last one in that night so I can only hope they were not scourged from the place after hesitating at the mention of dessert. Poor dears. Anyway, I'll give them another shot at impressing me in a few months. I need some time to soften this first impression. I've fed at favorite haunts that disappointed me so everyone can be off at any given time. But Harborside is all new, right? Not years old and tired and fed up with screaming babies and old ladies demanding to see the food before they order it. A new venue needs to treat EVERYONE like they're the FIRST one through the door. At least for the first year. Is that so hard? Am I being unreasonable? The benchmark of professionalism in restaurant service is to never be caught "off" and to never let them see you sweat. Unless it is on your behalf. Hard to do but necessary to be taken seriously. Suffice to say, I can't recommend this one to anyone whom I care about. Yet I remain hopeful and optimistic. Stay tuned... read more

First impressions are so important! Unfortunately this First Impression will also be a Last Impression. The restaurant was NOT busy so there was really no excuse for these mistakes. 1st waitress was HORRIBLE! Just had an overall attitude. Slow getting drinks out. Took one drink back to refill and forgot to return it. When asked the reply was "Oh you didn't get it?" At which point she brought over a new waitress and said "She will take care of you now". She traded tables. We were not rude or disrespectful during her snappy remarks and just overall unpleasantness. Food was over priced & poorly prepared. Some meals were actually luke warm/cold. We came here a few weeks ago for a team outing and we def. made the right choice. Our group was greeted by the owner Dave when we came in and seated right away. Our waitress was very nice but she seemed a bit nervous. Even with that, our drinks came out fast and never got empty. We had the lobster bites, bang bang shrimp for apps and they were spot on. I had the mahi-mahi for the main course and it was fantastic. For dessert we had the peanut butter pie and it might have been the best peanut butter I have ever had. This is a beautiful restaurant. A great improvement from what was here years ago. It's a shame it is so poorly managed. We went on a Sunday night at 6:00 and we were told that they were locking the doors because they were running out of food. They were out of oysters, out of grouper and out of chicken. All chicken. Showed up for lunch with my family today, New Years's eve. I was told that we had to wait to be seated because the kitchen was back logged with orders... In spite of the restaurant having about 50 percent of the tables empty. Not sure why HARBORSIDE thinks it's ok to have customers waiting in the lobby when they could be seated at a table... Relaxing with a drink. I haven't been here since its been renovated. It's in a great location being right on the lake and seems to be a favorite of quite a few boaters docking alongside the restaurant. We sat inside the screened in area by the water... Great views. We waited quite a long time for our food, at least 30 minutes. It was ok fried food... Nothing that special. The waitress was just ok too... Never gave us plates or silverware after our appetizer arrived. Service was very SKETCHY. We also ordered salads which never materialized. Not my idea of a fun family lunch out. I won't be back... Went here for date night. Arrived right before sunset and sat at the bar while we waited for a table. I've been on a pineapple kick so I ordered the Lime in the Coconut drink which was really good. Also got an order of shrimp cocktail which was very tasty. Chatted with the owner for a bit. Super friendly. Ordered the filet between medium and medium rare based on their guidelines and baked potato. I like my steak pink in the middle but medium rare said red and medium said brown. As long as it isn't over cooked I can be flexible but I think they put it in the same time as my husband's cowboy ribeye medium because it was cold and very definitely red. Not only that, but it was stringy. Like it had been frozen or something. I have never ever had a stringy fillet. I didn't want to complain but when they came back my husband told them it was cold so they took it and put it back on the grill. Came back the same. Not happy. I have found Harborside both good and bad. The bad is slow service. I've been during non-peak and peak times and service is the same. Slow. The servers were very pleasant but the meal took a LONG time. Order drinks...wait. Get an appetizer....wait. Your meals? Longer wait. I haven't lost the premise of enjoying a good,long slow meal shared with friends and conversation, but we came because we are hungry and a one plus hour wait for an entree seems excessive . They could have sold more bar drinks too had they checked in to our table more than just delivering food. Be prepared to pay upscale prices for good food. (not great, not stellar, just good) When spending the extra money, I would like a little more "Wow"...something that would make it really special. And the view is special, but what else is? The place is clean and the setting is beautiful. Also, there is a ton of room for parking which is great. When it's busy, be prepared to wait. They give you a pager which is also good. We decided on Harborside, they were pretty busy being that it was Friday night but we decided to wait it out. I'm so glad we did, our waitress Sibol was extremely pleasant & patient. The kitchen got a little backed up but instead of ignoring us she kept us informed & our glasses full. For me it's the small things that push hospitality services above average & Sibol was definitely did just that.
