Had a headlight burn out on my car. Called Harbord Auto because it's close to where I live and my regular mechanic is 25 min away. He told me the headlight was $15 and he wasn't sure about labour because some cars require the battery to be moved. I brought it over, and he had the new headlight in the car in less than 10 minutes and only charged me $5 labour. That's $20, and my regular guy charges $35-40 for the same job! I've been coming here for oil changes and to get my winter/summer tires for a little over a year. I recently also had brake pads replaced. So far, no problems or complaints! Service has always been great, the guy is friendly and he's never tried to sell me something (I had to ask them to check my brake pads because I knew they were low and it turns out i only needed to replace 2 of the 4). They are also conveniently located close to the subway (about 2 blocks) so i can drop the car off in the morning and pick it up after work. read more

I would not recommend Harbord Auto Center to anyone. I brought my car to this garage because the parking brake indicator light was on at all times, though the parking brake was released. Serge topped up the brake fluid -- the light did not go off. Serge then disconnected the sensor for the parking brake (the light went off). He assured me that this was a common practice and "was not a problem". Ten days later, the brakes were failing (I had to pump the brakes for them to work, and the pedal went down to the floor). When I took the car to the garage and explained the issue, I found Serge and his staff to be dismissive and rude. Before they examined the car, he suggested that "the problem was in my imagination". A subsequent drive verified that the problem was real. I left the car with them, with the instruction to call me before doing any repairs. I was never called. When I called them later that afternoon, I was informed that the repair had been completed without my authorization. They replaced the front brake hoses. I have been informed that disconnecting the brake sensor is a very unsafe practice. In fact, the indicator light was indicating that there was a problem with the brakes. Rather than examine the car and identify the problem, by disconnecting the sensor Serge chose an unsafe practice that placed me and others in potential danger. Ten days later, I noticed that the brakes were not as responsive as they had been. I took the car to Harbord Auto. Serge told me that the Master Cylinder needed to be replaced, an expensive repair. I took the car to another repair shop and was told there was no need to replace the Master Cylinder. Instead, the brakes had not been properly bled when they replaced the front brake hoses at Harbord Auto. I would not recommend Harbord Auto to anyone. I wonder if they treat all their customers rudely or only the women? read more

I was recommended to this garage by a coworker. I had to get a wheel bearing replaced in my car today, and although Serge was busy he made time for my repairs. He not only shopped around for the best price, did an excellent repair job, but pointed out a couple of tips for me. His prices are fair, his work is great, and he is a man of his word. Serge is an outstanding human being, as well as supervising a shop with capable mechanics. This morning he fixed license plates lights while I waited - perhaps 15 mins - despite my only asking 1 hr before if I could drop by. Earlier this year I brought to him my beloved Roadmaster Wagon ('93) for a certification check...the frame was cracked and a long list of other repairs indicated it would need to go to the great scrapyard in the sky (though I understand in fact they end up on freighters to Africa) - he had spent a good hour checking it out, but felt so badly for me that he refused to charge me a dime. That is the sort of kindness that wins loyal customers forever, of whom I am but one. read more

Great bunch of guys. Old school shop that is very fair and honest in my opinion. lack of parking can be a pain, but you can have them put your car on the street so you can pick it later. I would highly recommend them as a honest repair shop read more

Wow! Super impressed with this garage! My friend recommended harbord auto as an honest, reasonably priced/inexpensive garage. And he was right! My engine light came on but my car is running fine. So he hooked my car up, scanned it, told me what was wrong and didn't want a single penny for it. Turns out its my oxygen sensor for my heating circuit. (whatever that means) but it isn't anything serious so that was a relief! I am so appreciative and blown away by how generous Serge (owner) was with his time and advice! For free!! read more

This is one of the best mechanic shops in town. I've been going to them for over 2 years now. I had a clunker that I was trying to squeeze a little more life out of and was in the shop pretty frequently. They always found the cheapest way to fix it and would even take care of quick things for free. For bigger jobs, that I would get other quotes on, they'd always come in way lower. Their motorcycle service was unsatisfactory. Brake seals were replaced and the next season they leaked, again. When contacted, Serge offered not to replace them as they were beyond his "warranty" for service. I offered to pay for the seals again, but he would not cover the labor. read more

This place is excellent. I was experiencing some trouble with my car that suggested some suspension troubles, but they hoisted the car, checked out this issue and a few others, and didn't perform any work after determining that things were working as intended. read more
