Spadina Auto is close to me so i have used them a few times because of the convenience. I was in an accident and the company that towed me gave me a quote on some minor body work repairs $3,500. I thought it was a bit pricey so i got a quote from Spadina Auto there quote for the same work was $6,400 that was a special price for a frequent customer so i was told. Of course i went with the lower quote. I checked what i had paid for some of the other repairs done by Spadina Auto against other repair shops and Spadina Auto were always a lot higher. I used to live in the neighbourhood so I've known Wayne for over 12 years. I've brought my cars for emergency repairs. Recently I had a nail in my tire and I know most garages are busy with putting winters and it will be difficult to get someone to see if they can patch it. Luckily Wayne had a slot for me same day to get it done while I was in between work appointments and needed my car that day too. Prior to that, I popped a tire with our terrible potholes in Toronto. Spadina Auto robbed me. My vehicle gave some issues, they told me that if I replaced some parts then it would be fine. I gave 620$, and then they fixed those parts, but again they told me we needed to change other parts and then I gave 2000$. Later they asked for more money but could not find the exact problem. Later I sold my car for 2500$. Totally loss. They should have told me, that they could not fix my car from the beginning. Please do not take advantage of the people. read more

I did not expect to find such a great neighborhood garage downtown, and I'm so, so happy we happened upon Wayne a couple years ago by sheer luck of proximity. He's awesome. Hilarious, up-front, no-bullshit personality and his guys do consistently great work. He charges fair prices and has a great sense of humor, so to be quite honest, anyone criticizing his "poor customer service" probably does not share a sense of humor. The huge volume of business he gets is due to his quality of work and service as well, so take negative reviews with a huge grain of salt. Some people are never pleased, and/or do not realize that vehicles need maintenance, and maintenance costs money. That said, Wayne is upfront and honest when you do and don't need work done. He's flexible and will respect your budget, and also doesn't upsell. Needing work done is stressful at best - I've owned four vehicles and taken them to probably 6 garages total, and Wayne's is the lowest-pressure I've experienced. Wayne's a gem. Some of the dealings from this place are questionable. Took our vehicle in to be repaired, first we were told it was the water pump. Couple of hundred bucks in repair later he then tried to tell us the problem was the engine or transmission. Yet why wasn't this detected earlier?!?! Worst of all, he took our vehicle back to Scarborough for his personal use. How can i tell? Well he told me he took the vehicle out to test, please tell me you don't need to drive all the way to Scarborough (home) and then back to test it. He used it for his personal use because there was hockey equipment left in my car. Hint - don't be fooled by the positive reviews this place has gotten. Now I'm not saying anything but if there are 65 filtered reviews with ALL of them praising this place by new users with one review. It makes you wonder doesn't it... #justsayin' **If you are a seasoned yelper and look carefully, you'll see what I mean about bogus reviews...I don't want to give it away since someone is clearly watching this thread. Now they have resorted to getting users with alot of reviews to post 5 star reviews. It's kind of crazy how many people there are that just don't understand how the system works. I would know, I'm a local real estate agent and put thousands of kms on my car. I deal with crazy and uneducated all the time. So here's the skinny on the auto business. Wayne charges a certain rate for his guys because he wants to retain good guys. It's also a fair price as far as trained mechanics go. If you want to bring your car in for an oil change, you'll get charged labour plus materials. Some people won't like it and they want to be cheap. If you want to be cheap, you should learn how to do it yourself. Don't come on Yelp to complain. Some of you people forget that labour is expensive and that fixing a car and doing a good job won't come cheap. If it were so easy to fix your car, then why aren't you doing it? He also has a business philosophy of making sure that he protects you from the money pit you have on 4 wheels. If there's something that's not worth fixing, he'll tell you. If he tells you that it's almost time to replace something, that's because you need to replace it or something about your driving experience will change. Simple. I'm still a loyal customer after moving into the downtown area 5 years ago. He's maintained and repaired 3 of my cars. And he kept my old college beater running for as long as he could on a tiny budget and my cars still kept up with everyone else's at my auto-club. If you are a cheapskate, go elsewhere. You don't deserve top-notch service at fair prices when you only want to pay them in pennies. And no, I'm not a bogus reviewer. I'm a car-enthusiast who takes part in their local chapter, a community member of the 6ix, and capable of using a socket wrench on my own car when I have the time. read more

Hey, It's me.. the one with the 98 Cavalier... Only now, I've sent good ol' betsy out to pasture and the BF and I got ourselves a good ol' Toyota Corolla. That said, I guess the punks in the neighbourhood thought it looked nice enough to break into... but were respectful enough to only break the small back window of the back passenger side.. Grrr... I digress.. We took it to our friend Wayne at Spadina Auto and yet again, he was amazing. He had the window replaced and again, didn't over charge us for the whole ordeal. We really appreciate that he cares about the work he does for us and was willing to take our car immediately. (nothing like the sound of wind whistling thru duct tape as you race down the highway though). I stand firm that if you do own a car, don't go to the big name guys in town, go to Spadina Auto. I came here after losing some faith in my previous mechanic. First thing that threw me off was when I called to make an appoinment for an oil change, and asking how much it costs I could not get a straight answer. But he gave me a ballpark that didn't seem much more than what I was paying at my old spot and got me in on a Saturday morning so I just went with it. An inspection was done during the time per expectations set, however it pretty much ended up being a recommendation of bringing the car back another day so they could spend more time with it and then talking in circles about potential issues and then putting blame on my old mechanic for things like not fixing the air filter housing before it rusted (a legitimate argument, but still no clarity or insights of potential concerns/problems). The owner seems like he's trying to be a straight shooter, but seemed kind of dodgy at the same time. So with nothing concrete and nothing motivating me to be comforted in bringing it back, after my $55 oil change I moved on to find another mechanic that could give me some sort of confidence that he's not trying to put me through the ringer. read more

Disclaimer: I'm not a car expert and all I got was an oil change, but I'll definitely be coming back and will update my review accordingly. I was helped by Wayne, the owner, and he was extremely friendly. I find other mechanics can have a tendency to talk to you like you're a moron (in fact, the mechanic next door did just this when I spoke to him about an oil change first) but Wayne was friendly through and through. Wayne made it clear to me that they would do the oil change, and IF I WANTED, they would check for any other problems. I said I only wanted the oil change today as I had to leave for Oshawa soon, and that was that. My car was done in a timely fashion and as the previous reviewer said, I did not feel ripped off or have any issues with the work. I recently moved downtown and needed a mechanic nearby and I came across Spadina Auto decided to go in to bring my Yaris for a safety check. Wayne the owner and everyone I spoke to in there are very friendly. Wayne spent the time to explain to me that my car needed new brakes and he could do a so so job or a good job that'll last me a couple years. Wow, amazing attitude, OK prices, but definitely top of the line service. I started out by having a coolant problem. I called the folks at Spadina Auto and the guy that answered suggested keeping an eye on it after I had topped it up and only to bring it in if the coolant level would keep going down, telling me how much it would cost to test the cooling system. Other places urged me to bring my vehicle in to do the test regardless. Next, I had my car stuck in some mud and after going back and forth numerous times to get my car out of the spot it was stuck in, it was vibrating like crazy driving highway speeds. After trying to rinse my wheel wells, while it had improved quite a bit, the vibrations were still there. I called the folks at Spadina Auto and the man that answered said that I was on the right track trying to clean it and that it'd take about an hour worth of labour to repair it. It ended up taking a total of 1.35hrs worth of labour as there was a lot of mud they had to scrape off. They also checked all the components that could've caused the vibrating and balanced all my tires (which was what I suspected it needed, thinking I had cleaned it enough, however it turns out there was mud on the inside wells of the wheels which I would be unable to clean off of my steelies). I was surprised that he didn't round up the labour up to the nearest half hour. I could tell that he had done everything possible to try and take care of my issues and had billed me for as little time as he could. As the cherry on top, they even stayed there past the end of their official closing time in order for me to be able to pick up my car the same day, which of course I wouldn't have expected and in my eyes is going well above and beyond what I would've expected. I am not at all surprised that at the time that I am writing this review, this shop has nothing but 5 star reviews. They are definitely not out there to get your money for work you don't need unlike most other shops I've been to, and I definitely trust them with my car which I always do my best to take care of as best I can :-) With that in mind, I'd definitely return to Spadina Auto Repair the next time I need work done on my car. read more

Hearing the obvious squealing need to find a reliable mechanic for my 12 year old Honda CRV, I followed the Yelp star ratings for this spot and was immediately impressed with the service. Wayne, the owner - he is a super guy as referred to in the other reviews - took the time to listen to my concern of rear squeaking when braking and even took me along on a test drive to diagnose the sounds which at this point were making me lose it when coming to a stop in traffic (this at 6:00 on a Friday night). This might seem an obvious car condition to the casual viewer, but within the two months prior, I had taken my car to two Can Tire shops to specifically check my rear brakes, who charged me $130 to tell me nothing was wrong...don't even get me started on what the dealer shop would have "suggested". As a side note without sounding frustrated - women just don't get good service from most auto shops...so I hope this review helps us in particular when making choices of where to spend our cash. Well the good news - it was WAS my rear brakes afterall. A week before Christmas holidays and I wasn't thrilled about my new surprise "present" of brakewear...but Wayne gave me two choices of factory or aftermarket parts which at least gave me an option of how much I wanted to spend . I felt fairly treated, clearly understood the repair work, clearly understood the charges and more importantly felt confident in the diagnosis of the problem. Three weeks later, and I'm happy to say I have no more annoying squeak and my car seems happy too! I needed a new spa for my car and with this one project under our belts I look forward to continuing with Wayne and Spadina Auto Repair for all my vehicle maintenance and upkeep going forward. read more

I have been going to Wayne for a couple of years. Today was just the Drive clean test on my car, but Wayne was his usual friendly self. I dropped the car off last night and he called me today around noon to let me know the car passed the test and could be picked up anytime. So i kept on eye what Wayne Wong was trying to achieve. I agree that I shared the same experiences with the other reviewers: leave the car for three days, leveraging fear if the work/service is ignored, an overpriced quote and asking $200 deposit upfront. Yes, cash deposit upfront. Who does this?! And with no receipt or quote. Dont be fooled by the facade of smiles. look around and get multiple quotes. in the end, with some arguments and legal references the job was done at an agreed, fair and reasonable price. But, as a customer you shouldn't have to resort to that. read more

This place saved our asses! My husband and I just moved here and took our car on a 4 day drive from LA to Toronto. We went to an auto place close to the apartment we're staying in but they were super full & sent us away but recommended us to Spadina Auto. This place was also super busy and since we didn't have an appointment we had to leave it overnight. It was great that we got taken in at all and the guy said it would be ready next day at noon. It did take longer than that BUT it was super busy because the lot was full. When my husband said they said the part needed to be ordered I got worried it'd take all week but it was finished that night. Overall super nice service. Wayne will work with you and give you options, not only that, he will take the time to educate you in why you should do things a certain way and why cutting corners. He will take pictures of the work he performed and if something doesn't need done, he will tell you. Took my car in to Spadina Auto based on the reviews on this site. I got a basic inspection, front-end alignment, tune-up and oil change, along with having snow tires mounted. My only minor complaint is that I wasn't given an estimate before the work was started and it was a bit more expensive than I had expected when I came to pick it up. But I never asked for an estimate, so that's on me, and the only reason for the sticker shock was that I hadn't really done an accurate estimate in my head for how much things would cost. I don't feel that I was overcharged for anything. Wayne (the owner) was extremely friendly and offered to stay open after their posted hours to let me pick up my car on the same day that I dropped it off. I did not expect it to be finished until the next evening; however, I got a call around 8:30 pm indicating all the repairs had been done.
