I called harbor pets yesterday with a grooming emergency. We explained that our dog is the ring bearer for our family wedding this weekend, and told them that she'd accidentally got out in the yard and ran into mud, and a nest of ticks! To our luck, the groomer, Ben, was able to squeeze us in the same day, and they even gave her a quick trim! He was very attentive during the consult, and she came out so cute. We knew that our pet was in good hands when he'd explained to us that they don't perform anything that our pet is uncomfortable with or doesn't like! We didn't mind paying extra since our dog is always in the yard and tangles very quickly! When leaving, we booked appointments for the remainder of summer with the friendly reception! Had a routine grooming appointment, showed up right on time. Owner (older guy) complains, "why don't you pick up the phone, I called you twice, I almost gave your appointment away." I said, "I have an appointment right now, why would you give it away." He said, "I was going to give it away yesterday, I called twice, you didn't pick up." I said, "What number did you call? Did you call my wife instead?" Turns out he was calling the wrong number - not my number, not my wife's number. However, he then insisted that he was calling my wife. He then told me, in a condescending tone, "Maybe you should tell your wife to return her voicemails." At this point, I said, "First of all, don't talk to me like that. Second of all, should we do this appointment or not. You are being bizarrely hostile." The owner says, "Yes, I'll cut the dog's hair." Then as he comes around to take my dog by the leash, he says, again, "But next time, tell your wife to return her voicemails." At this point, I tell the owner, "We're leaving, you're not cutting my dog's hair. I've had enough." He then proceeds to DRAG MY DOG BY THE LEASH ACROSS THE FLOOR. I tell him to let the dog go. He then PICKS UP MY DOG AFTER I TOLD HIM TO LET HIM GO. I then told him, "HEY! DROP MY DOG RIGHT NOW! HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND". The owner then released my dog. I walked out of the store absolutely livid. I was disgusted with the level of hostility displayed by this horrible person, and then the physical abuse to my dog. I will never go to Harbor Pets again, and I would advise you to think twice about giving them your business. Obviously there are a number of poor reviews on Yelp for Harbor Pets, so I'm not the only one. read more

They did a wonderful job on our 2 dogs! We're staying here for the summer and it's to our pleasure to have found such reputable groomers right in town! Our dogs both felt and smelled very clean afterwards. They were very quick too. Our other place usually has us drop them off in the morning and they get kept there all day sitting in a cage. Took my dog there once as I like to support local business and seemed like a possible alternative to options much farther away. Despite the mixed reviews, I thought I'd give them a chance. They did an ok job but no better than PetSmart for a much higher price. On top of that, they tacked a charge beyond the agreed price because they said my dog was aggressive. I indicated that this had never been an issue in the maybe 25-30 other times he'd been groomed at various places. After a pointless conversation with an entirely unhelpful and somewhat rude counter clerk, I learned from the groomer that he tried to bite the brush while yanking on knots. I posted a prior negative review, to which they responded by posting my personal information. Kind of borderline doxing. An unprofessional experience followed by an unacceptable privacy violation. I want to support local businesses, but an attitude adjustment to help them immensely. read more

I really hope this pet store makes it. With the likes of chewy and amazon it is very difficult for these retail operations to exist. The owner is very nice and his sales staff is very pleasant. Fair pricing and good selection. read more

Review going from 5 stars to 1. Brought my dog here for grooming and was super specific about what i wanted. The woman who normally grooms him came out and met me. When i went to pick him up another girl brought him to me and he looked like he got into a fight with a weed wacker. He looked the exact opposite of what i asked for. He was basically just entirely shaved...even his head and face. I still can't look at him. It is horrific. I said something before I left and the girls basically laughed it off. I sent the business an email hoping to get some response from the owner or a manager...nothing in five days. This place has zero customer service. We will not be back. read more

An overall 5 stars for their kindness and helpful service! The staff and owner(s) are knowledgeable, friendly, kind & helpful plus they do great grooming! Called in for a last minute appointment to get my shih tzu grromed and they were very accommodating and took him right away, plus he was in and out in less than an hour so he didn't have to spend the day there. Crash usually gets a puppy cut and I have to say during my 11 years of having him groomed there aren't many groomers that can perform and deliver to my exacting standards but the groomer at Harbor Pets gave him the perfect cut! They also carry quite a good variety of different holistic and organic pet foods. Considering it's the only pet store in town you'd expect outrageous prices but they are quite competitive and even carry the brand of food that my dog eats cheaper than at Petco in the city. read more

HORRIBLE. Brought my dog to get groomed. They did a terrible job and completely shaved my dog. A decent grooming takes time (at least two hours) and this was less than an hour. This was expensive too! Aside from the lack of pride, they were completely defensive. I don't think my dog has ever had such a poorly done grooming. We've taken our dog to be groomed here three times. The first two times were fine. The third time I arrived after they called to say she was ready. I waited for about ten minutes - they said they just wanted to brush her out one more time. That night we discovered she had a sizable gash on her left rear leg. I brought her to the vet who, after examining her, asked if she had been to the groomer recently because it looked as if a scissors might have cut her. I have no proof this is what happened. But if it did and they didn't have the fortitude to tell me... I'm just saying. read more

I just have to write this review, because I see that nothing has changed to the better. My friend brought his dog and asked to give her a short haircut. It was in July 2014. We told the personal that we were in a hurry and they told us to pick up the dog in two and a half hours. Ok, we waited even longer and when finally after 3 and a half hours we had to ask for the dog. Their answer was phenomenal : Do you want to get the dog or do you want us to finish grooming? Both, said my friend. Finally, in 15 more minutes we got the dog back and we could not recognize her : she was completely shaved!!! It is October now and she is starting to get her hair back only now. HORRIBLE, JUST HORRIBLE JOB AND TERRIBLE ATITUDE. read more

I see from some of the other reviews that the owner of this establishment does not apologize when a mistake is made. So -- Don't ever bring a double coated dog for a simple Furminator bath and blowout. You can say "no trimming, please" but it's ignored. My Smooth Collie came back with all sorts of fuzzy spots where there must have been a thinning tool of some sort used. They denied it, of course, and replied to my dispute of the charge with all sorts of nonsense about contacting other breeders, without naming them, and citing the owner's Bearded Collie (a totally different breed and type of coat, as though that breed has any similarity). If they had to contact other breeders, then it's obvious that the current groomer had no experience with the breed and had not listened to me when I said No Trimming. My response to American Express was lost in the mail, and I will probably not pursue it any further, as it really wasn't about the charge -- just a matter of principle, and they obviously rather lose a customer than admit wrongdoing and make amends. read more

The young ladies that work there are always very nice, but the older guy that works there and owns it is always nasty, unpleasant and doesn't pay any attention to me when I go in there. Once he was on the phone the entire time I was at the counter paying for something I was buying, due to I'm assuming his distraction from being on the phone he gave me $5 less in my change due back to me, upon seeing this I walked back to the counter and pointed it out. He gave me such an attitude all while still on the phone, not one sorry, only the attitude of being annoyed by me. The products are expensive too. I have no stepped foot in the facility since, especially when I see that the guy is there. I used to like this place 9 years ago, but have increasingly come to dislike it over the years. read more

We get our dogs groomed here constantly and we have consistently great service! I have a lab, a corgi and a poodle, each one taken care of treated with care!!!! Can't recommend them enough!!!!! read more

BEWARE if you have a small dog and bring it into the shop. I came in on a Sunday and there were two yorkie mixes who seemed kind of territorial but ok with other dogs, at first. I had my small, older dog-friendly Maltese with me. Just before we left, I was standing at the front looking at the cookies. My dog was just standing there looking around, when out of nowhere the larger yorkie came sneaking up behind my dog and then suddenly jumped on her and started biting!! Worst of all the girl working there never reprimanded her dog, even though she saw it happen. When I said to her that it was biting my dog she barely uttered an apology. Terrible customer service and a dog-aggressive dog. So beware. read more

I brought my Havanese for a grooming and they did a horrific job. I dropped her at 1.20 and was called at 3.01 pm to say they were finished. The groomer shaved her and said that they had to do it because her legs were matted. She looks ridiculous. I brush my dog every single day. My dogs eyes were still dirty when I picked her up and her head was cut completely uneven. I called the manager and calmly explained my dissatisfaction. I agreed to drive the 30 minutes back to the store to show him. When I arrived the entire staff surrounded me and spewed nasty lie after lie about the time I dropped her off and picked her up. They claimed that they had the dog for almost three hours. I showed them that I had proof of when she was done vis a vie the time on my mobile phone when they called but they refused to look at it. Also, I have proof of when I dropped her off because I dropped a friend and the airport prior to my dropping off the dog. They refused to consult any of my proof. Finally, the manager claimed that the black eye goop accumulated in the 45 minutes between when I picked her up and the time I showed her to him. At this point I decided to leave this crazy establishment. Had they treated me kindly, apologized, etc. I would have been fine with this. Accidents happen. Their rude obnoxious behaviour shows a complete lack of respect for animals and people. read more

I have owned toy poodles most of my life and this was the worst grooming at the most expensive price I have ever paid. When I called to get a quote, I was told $75 per dog, which was what I expected. However, when we picked them up we were told that it was more work than they thought and charged us $110 per dog!!!! First off we had asked them to follow the cut they had just 6 weeks earlier and they are toy poodles!!! What a rip off. The worst part was they were left way too long, did not clip their nails and within two weeks looked as if they were never groomed. When I called within two weeks to complain and told them to correct it even if I had to add to the cost, I was told the owner would call me......they never did. My recommendation is to avoid this place and find either a mobile groomer or someone else. read more
