Dr Wen use to own this Veterinarian place & he literally was the very best, eastern medicine. He saved our Corgis life! After going to Islip animal hospital that wanted to immediately do surgery following an MRI that I was told would cost $2,000, well when I agreed to the MRI they told me it has to be followed by surgery that will cost between $15,000 to $20,000 and over 6 months of Rehabilitation of a very costly charge for that as well. I then told them no surgery until I know about the MRI and that hospital said now the MRI is $5,000! Stay away from that ER! So I found Dr Wen at this great facility & he let us know it was a stroke. He cured her with acupuncture and special herbs that he blends. Two times a week we took Maggie and she was 90% better Living a wonderful life on wheels. I was sad to hear he left Hampton veterinarian. I would recommend this place to anyone. People come from many different states to see the doctors here. Thank you so much for saving out sweet Maggie. I found a hurt bunny and brought him in. first time ever at this vet! they weighed the bunny, treated him, checked his age and gave me so much knowledge. they didn't even charge me for the appointment which I was so thankful for, I had spent my last penny on everything the bunny could need. unfortunately, my bunny passed away and the sweet people at this hospital sent me a card to my home and signed it. little does everyone know, that bunny was named after my baby I miscarried 2 months earlier. so receiving a card saying "Maxwell will always be with you" "so sorry for your loss of maxwell" and "maxwell will always be loved" touched my heart in a way nobody could know to see those words together. there's no way to extend my appreciation to this office. hopefully coming by to bring cookies soon does it. thank you to the wonderful people here. read more

Today Bentley and I had the greatest vet experience we have actually ever had. Our normal had left her previous location and we have no idea where she went.. as a result it was time to find a new one. Dr. Johnston was definitely the best vet I've ever brought Bentley to. He's had terrible experiences at his original vet, which made him very nervous in any medical office as a result. Dr. Johnston was able to listen to his heart beat, feel all of his joints, his lymphnodes and look in both ears with no issue which has actually never happened before. As someone who owns a pitbull mix, I've experienced a lot of doctors being nervous around him from the start, which never helped him. She was confident, let him sniff everything she touched him with before she tried touching him with it, she listened to everything I had to say and also supported him being on a raw diet. 10/10 will continue to go to this vets office read more

My family has been seeing Dr Wen and Dr Johnson for years. They seem to cautious when they need to be and never alarmists. They try to use an array of alternatives medicines/procedures like acupuncture and herbal remedies oftentimes. She is very patient with my two dogs, one of which can be a bit to handle. While in the room, we never felt rushed. I am very happy with the office and scheduling. She offers weekend hours which is amazing for my schedule. It is also fairly easy to get in on short notice, for example I called on a Wednesday and had both of my dogs seen for an appointment that upcoming Sunday. We drive about 35 minutes every time we go here and it is well worth it. read more

The receptionist, the techs ..especially Devin, have been taking very good care of our dog since she has fallen ill in January, they ALL have a lot of patience with us and always so nice and friendly...also I find the prices to be very fair..visits, testing and medications! Outstanding! My seven year old cockapoo Fred, was lethargic and not eating for the past two days. I brought him to HAMPTON veterinary hospital and within one minute of physically examining his body from head to paw, Dr Dowd found an abscess on his throat. It was not visible to the eye or untrained touch. The abscess was spread across the surface area of his throat making it near impossible to detect! Dr Dowd was able to get a syringe in a very delicate area & confirmed her suspicions, that the area was inflamed with pus. She then explained to me what my options were because of the sensitivity of the area. One option was to bring him to a veterinary surgeon, have Fred Sedated & have drains installed. Dr Dowd told me that she would be willing to shave the abscessed area, make a small incision & gently extract the pus. She was able to drain all the infection out him & treat Fred with antibiotics. He immediately showed signs of improvement. I heard of this place from so many people over the years. Bragging about Dr Wen etc. Well, Dr Wen maybe gone but the quality of care is still there. They are also very reasonable too! The procedure I just explained cost me $171. I've also had both of my dogs teeth cleaned there & they were $460 for the one & $650 for the other. That's reasonable!!! Oh!!! & they recently treated my friends dog for a softball size cancerous tumor. He is now 100% tumor & cancer free, without surgery! I cannot say enough about this amazing veterinary hospital and Dr Karen Johnston. Well another vet wanted to charge me a thousand dollars just for an x-ray and told me my dog needed surgery, a friend recommended Hampton. Thank goodness!! Dr. Johnston discovered that my dogs spine was out of alignment. She gave her a steroid shot to ease her discomfort. Within an hour, my dog that looked like she was dying before the visit was back to her old self. I was amazed. I have taken my other pets here as well and won't go anywhere else. read more

Dr. Wen is an excellent veterinarian. I take care of dogs and a lot of my clients use him as well. His herbs work. I care for different dogs that have different issues and were treated by Dr. Wen successfully by continuously taking the herbs. Our Bichon, Lily had kidney failure and was on fluids daily as well as the herbs. When we stopped the herbs, she got worse. When we started them again, she improved. Dr. Wen said they were what was keeping her alive and he was right. She improved and We got to have Lily longer because of the herbs. She didn't suffer at all. Another vet gave us a much grimmer diagnosis. Dr Wen saw Lily each week, he is not one for small talk, but he is always honest and compassionate. He truly cares for the animals, and doesn't over medicate. When Lily died, we received a card signed by the entire office and paper stamps with Lily's paw print. Our other Bichon, Lucy is always stressed at the vets office at first, as soon as Dr. Wen starts his examination, Lucy calms down immediately. He certainly has a way with animals and that's what really matters. Lucy had a torn ACL and we were more than willing to get the surgery. Dr Wen put her on herbs instead and she has completely healed. He sources his herbs and prescribes certain ones and the correct dosage for each ailment. read more

We had brought our old dog KC here to see Dr. Wen when he was still with the practice and loved it. We have continued coming here with our new dog Ranger, and have had no issues. They care about the animals and keep the office running quickly. This past Saturday we had to wait about a half hour to see the vet which has been unusual for us (we've been here quite a number of times in the past few weeks as hes a new pup), but we were still out the door in under an hour. My 17 year old cat is a new patient there for acupuncture. We found Dr. Johnston to be very caring and gentle. She uses electro-acupuncture with which we were unfamiliar. The cost of the acupuncture session was a fraction of what it cost at the previous veterinary facility we attended which makes acupuncture affordable to the not-so-well-to-do! Dr. Johnston was exceptionally kind and we couldn't have been happier with our first visit. Unlike a lot of other veterinary hospitals right now, this one allows one pet parent to enter the facility and be present during the exam/procedure. This meant a great deal to me. The staff was courteous and professional both on the phone and in person. I have no complaints whatsoever. And unlike the previous facility we attended, there were no surprises on the bill. Recently, on a Friday, my 5.5 lb. shih tzu ate a small portion of 'pot' and I panicked! My vet is in Manhattan. I live 1/10 of a mile from this clinic and immediately drove there. There were no patients in the clinic. I told the receptionist what happened and since I wasn't a patient, she said I would have to pay the $150 new patient visit, to which I said: 'of course!' She said she'd have to ask the dr. if she could schedule a 'new pt.' After coming back she stated that he would not see Truffle and that I should go to the hospital in Riverhead! I begged to just talk to him for two minutes and that I'd pay for the visit. He would not come out to talk to me! Need I say more? If I could give '0' stars, I obviously would. read more

After going to numerous other veterinary offices and leaving with empty pockets and my puppy's issues never taken care of we brought to Dr. Wen. From the front desk to checkout the visit was like no other place we had been to. Dr. Wen listened to our concerns and instead of ordering all the blood work, X-rays and testing to break the bank like the rest did, he prescribed some holistic and some conventional medication to help heal his shoulder issue. He said if after a month he did not improve then we would proceed with X-rays and additional testing. When we had to put our baby down he and his staff were so comforting and didn't rush us. They truly care about every pet and pet owner that walks through their door. Checkout can be confusing sometimes but after being there more then once you knew how things worked and now it's not an issue at all for us! read more

My 6 year old Labradoodle started experiencing gastrointestinal issues in October. Dr. Wen diagnosed him as having IBD, and put him on herbs. He never really rallied, unless he was on antibiotics. We've had xrays, bloodwork, numerous drug therapies and moved into the near thousands of dollars of care for this issue in the past three months. Seemingly, Dr. Wen has mysteriously with no notice, left the practice and is unable to to be reached for consult. Dr. Johnston is now running the practice. Though a very smart woman, she seemingly has no regard for a person's budget and gives them no options when treating their animal. My last visit there was over $600, and I had no idea it would be that amount until I was paying. None of the tests run were offered as options, they were just performed. Dr. Johnston does not know how to explain a situation to patient in a way that they understand. Not everyone has a veterinary degree, so we don't understand what the results might indicate or not indicate. Her explanation of my dogs bloodwork was very thorough, but unless I went to Purdue or Cornell vet school, I have no idea what any of it meant. When Dr. Johnston said we needed to have a rather expensive diagnostic test run, I told her we were now at a financial crisis and would like other options. Dr. Johnston's response was to tell me that my dog has metastatic cancer, based on her tests and an x-ray. That verbiage should NEVER used with a patient until the true diagnostic testing such as biopsies and scopes or done. What SHOULD be said is that "there are things on the x-ray that concern us, here are some options for you." Mind you, I might have had those scopes done THREE MONTHS ago before I was financial drained by this practice and before my dog's condition had deteriorated as much as it had (I was also never told to change his diet or offer probiotics, which a second-opinion vet has done). The KICKER is the way we were told of the cancer diagnosis - VIA EMAIL. Yes, lumped into my morning news and store coupons was a completely blunt and cold email stating that my dog has metastatic cancer. There was no "I'm sorry" or anything resembling sympathy, only a pitch for the herbs to help manage the disease "once it's confirmed." I believe Professor Snape was more compassionate in potions class at Hogwarts. The Happy Ending here is that after a $2300 diagnostic test, I found out my dog is 100% NOT cancerous in ANY way and that he needs to change his food and he had an infection - period. If not for my second opinion veterinarians, Bellport Animal Hospital, who are now his PRIMARY vets, and the East End Veterinary Center which performed the diagnostic tests on my dog, chances are, we may have just put him to sleep based on the email from Dr. Johnston. What about people that do NOT have the means for all the diagnostic tests and second opinions and love their pets too much to watch them suffer? How many animals have been put down as a result? Shame on Dr. Wen on abandoning his patients that depended on him with NO notice. Shame on Dr. Johnston for her lack of sensitivity to finances and her reprehensible bedside manner. The vet techs at Hampton are wonderful though. My dog loved them, and they were very nice to me and very loving to my pet. We will miss them. I don't see this practice thriving with Dr. Wen leaving it to those now left in charge. Do not take your pets to this vet unless you are are willing to fork over big bucks with no options, and ALWAYS get a second opinion. read more

We have been going to this vet for a few years. I have never felt they were after money until my recent visit on 1/30/20. This vet was so certain my dog had a particular cancer and started her on herbs and steroid. Told us she was NOT suffering, no fluid in chest and abdomen and we had 6 months of a healthy dog. The vet called me the next day to tell me she didn't have that cancer and they wanted her in for more blood work to rule out infection. We went for more blood work and was called the next day and told again that the blood work was negative for that cancer but she may have an infection. So we started antibiotics. My dog showed very little signs of improvement but seemed to be better due to steroids decreasing the cough. So we went for a second opinion because her stomach started to descend and swell. We requested our records be sent to the new vet. The new vet told us the x-ray report that were done by Hampton Vet did show fluid in chest and abdomen and that there was something going on with her liver and it was time to but our dog down. I am not angry we lost our dog. I am greatful I had her for 15 years. What I am angry about is the misdiagnoses and lack of communication about her x-ray results, because that clearly shows she did not have an infection, and that her liver was failing and she was misdiagnosed again. Dr Johnston let me bring my dying dog home to suffer to my 3 young children. I expressed to Dr Johnston on 1/30 that I did not want my dog to suffer and that I had every intention of putting her down and we didn't want to find her. She reassured me that she was ok and we still had time with her. Within a week and a half we lost our dog. I will never go back to this vet again. read more

Dr Wen takes care of our two dogs + helps with our horse, too! The office is attentive and quick, Dr Wen is happy to do a phone consultation before coming in (ie: when you think something is wrong and it's not, he will tell you not to come int, monitor for x number of days, or make an apportionment, etc). Dr Wen's western approach has helped with our dogs ear infections and has saved and extended the lives of many horses at the rescue I volunteer at (everything from heart medications to supplements). I have read all the negative reviews however Dr Wen has been an absolute jewel for my dogs. His office is clean, and does not smell. Yes, sometimes the wait is long but that can occur anywhere. Most times I am in and out with no wait. He probably diagnosed my dog to have dry eye when my previous vet advised that we needed to operate. My second dog had conjunctivitis and I was not able to administer the medication. Dr Wen prescribed herbs to be taken orally and this worked perfectly. Whenever I need to take the dogs back for a recheck there is no fee. Dr Wen, Dr G, and the entire office staff are very professional and I am glad I take my dogs there read more

The vet who saw my dog for gastrointestinal issues was lovely and sweet but I waited an hour and 20 minutes to be seen. My dog came out of the room with blood smeared all over his fur from the shot they gave him and I had to point it out to the staff. He's pure white in color so it was obvious. The female receptionist was rude upon our arrival and it took another significant amount of time for us to check out. Customer service really leaves something to be desired. I've gone to Hampton vet for a very long time when Dr Wen was the primary veterinarian there. Since he has so cold retired and moved to his new family in China Dr. Johnson has been unable to handle or treat patients as Dr. wen did. She is outsourcing all the serious critical cases to doctors all over the island. Doing this course patience a lot more money because she's on able to do treatments exams at her own facility. I have seven pets. I now have to find a new veterinarian practice to care for them without getting a sick stomach every time I take them there. Dr. Johnson has raised her prices because she's not making the money that the practice used to make when her ex-husband was there and basically was the best vet ever anywhere. If you are considering using a veterinarian please don't because your baby won't be taken care of by a vet there for anything major surgeries sonograms there or outsourced Dr. Johnson charges twice the price because she's got to bring somebody in to do it. The staff that runs the desk upfront taking your phone calls and booking your appointments They have no care or concern they are coldhearted put you on hold for a long time while they sit and have a conversation that has nothing to do with what's going on in the office with another employee I've sat in her office and watch these employees take control of peoples lives when they have very sick pets not caring at all. They don't give Dr. Johnson messages they tell you she'll call you when she has free time but if she knew the circumstances behind the call she wouldn't wait till she has free time but this is what the people at the front desk choose to do. They play God with your pet they don't care about you they just care about what their job is going to pay them and how miserable they are there I hear so much conversation going on while sitting in that office about Dr. Johnson and how bad she is and how bad the practice has gotten since Doctor Wen has left. I was never able to go to that office in sane empty parking space available to parking now all you see is empty parking spaces. Ask yourself why she's not able to run the facility the way Dr. Wen ran it. Her biggest problem is her staff they don't care and with the staff doesn't care and you don't get messages when you've got really sick animals then there's no point in going to a facility like that because then the vet will never be a good vet. read more

Loved Dr Wen. He was gentle and kind with both of my dogs including my senior lab. He never ordered unnecessary tests and the herbs worked well. However after he left I called in to renew a prescription for my senior lab who had a reoccurring growth on his eye. The previously prescribed herbs by Dr Wen has cleared it up before and I just wanted more of those (they were black tea tablets not any sort of controlled substance) The new doctors insisted I bring him in for a check up in order to get the prescription renewed (and get the fee) I explained my 14.5 year old lab was quite immobile and it was hard for him to walk. They didn't care. So I brought him in. No mats or runners on the floor. Thankfully I brought a blankets so I slid him into the examining room, which caused my dog stress. When I suggested to Dr Gucciardo that they get runners or a carpet so that senior dogs could enter and exit easier he rudely snapped at me and was very disrespectful. He looked at my dog for less then a minute, wrote the prescription and got his fee out of me. When he was done he offered to have his staff help me out with my dog but I declined and just asked if we could use the back exit. He said "sure" but didn't tell me there were very large scary and aggressive caged dogs in the back that my sweet Lab would have to hobble by, while being aggressively barked at. By the time we got out my labs heart was beating so fast, he was terrified by the whole experience. My lab was not a wussy dog. He was a retired search and rescue water dog who had saved lives and worked his entire life, volunteering in hospitals and schools after he retired. He deserved much more respect then this DR AND Vet clinic STAFF showed him that day. Avoid. And if anyone knows where Dr Wen went please tell me as I would fly across the country to see him if necessary. read more

I am totally impressed with Dr. Wen as he has seen each of my dogs over the last 10 years after their primary North Fork vet wants to do surgery or wanted to do testing that is in the thousands of dollars. He is intelligent and has not charged me for follow-up visits, just for her medicine to help my last dog digest food. The waiting room is like any other Vet waiting room. A dog will pee once in a while but the staff has been very attentive. By the way, the medication is a typical med, not herbal and Dr. Wen DOES use typical medications along with herbal.
