I made an appointment for my 5-month old puppy to get his first grooming several days in advance. I know it isn't a common breed here (it's an Italian breed, Lagotto Romagnolo), so I told them the age and breed to ensure they could prepare to groom him appropriately. When I brought him there, the woman said she had never groomed this breed before. I asked her if she had researched it and she replied that she only had a book for "American breeds", and then acknowledged, "I guess I could have looked it up". I reminded her that I told her the breed when I made the appointment, and that I had found a lot of online resources readily available that she should refer to. When I picked him up, he did not look anything like the breed, and the cut removed any of his distinct characteristics. His whiskers and beard were completely removed, and he was just shaved all around at one uniform length. I commented on this and asked her if she had looked the breed up before grooming him, and she said she didn't have time. Although he is very clean, he no longer looks anything like a Lagotto. I politely told her I was very disappointed and she seemed completely indifferent, and never apologized. To make it all worse, she charged me $125. read more
