I would come back just to get served by Mike. Great experience. Sitting at the bar was pleasant in every way.

This is an amazing restaurant. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and awesome food. We wandered in one weeknight and while the place was busy, we were able to find two seats at the bar. The bartender hustled over and left water and took drink orders. They have a nice selection of cocktails so you won't have any issue finding something you enjoy. I had a nice Manhattan and my friend enjoyed a vodka cocktail. We ordered off the appetizer menu. The standout was the halibut ceviche. Light but meaty, the fish really was a star. Fresh fish is just hard to beat. The prices are standard for Homer, but it's worth it. A really great experience! read more

The service was great and there are a ton of tables. The oysters were fresh and perfect. The tour of Alaska was okay. Everything was just a bit overcooked, but otherwise tasty and we were starving so that helped. Good choice for the area since they're open later than a lot of other spots. read more

Had an amazing time at the Harbor Grill! Kieva and Jess were our bartenders and provided a fun, relaxing experience & whipped up some incredible drinks as well as some awesome ribeye tacos! Everyone was super friendly and the server, Amethyst, gave some great recommendations for things to do around town! Will be back, definitely the best place on the spit! read more

Popped in for dinner after a boat cruise and had a great experience. Our waiter Jake did a great job and our food was delivered quickly and piping hot! The fish was breaded and fried to crispy perfection-- not greasy at all and seasoned just right. A crowded and popular place with tourists and it was the perfect place for some yummy fish. Would definitely come back. read more

We visited on a Monday evening after many places on The Spit had closed. I'm so glad they were open! The food was delicious! My husband's salmon BLT was massive! My fish and chips looked small but it filled me up! 80's music in the background. Bright, sea themed decor in bright walls. Patio available. Numerous beer, wine, and cider options. read more

The Harbor Grill is mediocre. Of all the seafood places in which I've eaten, it is one of them. The service was average. The waitress assigned was shifting weight from foot to foot, indicating impatience or perhaps a back-ache. I had the encrusted halibut. Some of the asparagus was woody. The fish was cool inside, but steaming outside. This indicates cooking at too high of a temp. It was borderline overcooked. The shrimp & chips were oily. Ergo, the oil temp was too low. The breading was not thick but was oily The "Cadillac" margarita was really limey - they forgot the sweet part. The Blueberry Borealis was not specialnor tasty. The waitress said the shrimp & chips "died during the wait" and so were being recooked. All in all, not at all. read more

When we arrived in Homer we were looking for food and fresh Alaskan King Crab. The service was great and the food was delicious. My fiancé had Alaskan King Crab and I had the Taste of Alaska, which had Halibut, Salman, Crab, Scallops and Shrimp over Risotto. Was so good. A bit on the pricey side. Also, we had a great view of the boats and even saw 2 Sea Otters in the water. read more

Have eaten here twice in two days. Both times we were seated quickly ,staff very polite . food order correct and delivered efficiently. Food was cooked to correct temperature. Garnished pleasantly. Tasted fresh and plentiful portions. Both inside and outside seating. We loved sitting inside by the window overlooking the harbor. Definitely recommend. read more

We went there for oysters. We asked the hostess if they had fresh oysters. She said yes and seated us in the bar area. We waited 10 minutes while 5 different servers walked past our table without acknowledging us or taking our order. The hostess sat another party down two tables over and a server immediately greeted them and took their drink order. We got up and walked out. So glad we did. We walked down to The Broken Oar and had some of the best fresh oysters we've ever had. The Harbor Grill wasn't interested in our business. That was a blessing in disguise. read more

Let's go 3.5 Stars here.. it's a tourist trap but the food is actually good! Walking in, it's just a large joint with many rooms and absolutely no character; almost looks like it was once a Mexican Restaurant? We ordered like 4 things just to try a little bit of everything. We had Oysters (Great) / Halibut Tacos (Very Good) / Taste of Alaska Platter (OK) and Halibut Ceviche (OK). Service was great and so are the views.. prices are high but worth a visit! My wife and I both loved our food! I had the halibut over risotto, and my wife had the halibut cakes and a salad. All three were great! I loved the risotto! Our server Hayden was a rock star. He helped us pick out a nice hike for the day which we did and enjoyed. The four stars is because they were playing country music when we were there. If that is your jam, bump the review up to a 5. read more

Wow! My kids and I actually had an amazing dinner. Despite all the lousy reviews somehow we got lucky. Maybe it's what we ordered. My daughter had the seafood Alfredo that she loved and said it was really delicious. My son had the elk burger which I took a bite of, and I thought it was great. We started our meal sharing. Some steamers in those clams are amazingly fresh and delicious and everyone enjoyed it in the broth that it was cooked and was perfect. I had the Seafood chowder which was good not great but it was good. But the prize was the king crab. Just love king crab we had a large leg and a small leg. We shared the king crab as the stuff wasn't cheap sometimes you gotta just go for it. Our server was great meal was just really an excellent experience because everybody enjoyed their food immensely. So I am baffled why so many people had such a bad experience? Anyways, no matter ours was great and I'll be back since I've been coming to this place semi regularly anyway. Easy parking warm, inviting atmosphere. read more

We had a good dinner with excellent service. I appreciated that they had several vegetarian options, including a few off the menu. The salmon BLT was particularly good. I'm only going with three stars because the place was really dirty (among the dirtiest restaurants I've seen), even on a slow night. read more

I've avoided this place for years because of the reviews. But at the end of season, options are limited. I knew based on reviews what to expect - a mixed bag - and that's exactly what we got. It was too cold to eat on the deck (which has a great view). So, we were forced to eat inside. The ambiance is horrendous - it's stuck sometime in the early 90s, with outdated, uncomfortable seating that's been patched. Worst of all was the smell, which LITERALLY smelled like poorly sanitized vomit. When we first walked it, there was a pleasant garlic smell, but once we were seated, the vomit smell became more noticeable, and I was terrified someone had recently barfed in our booth. My husband assured me it's a seafood thing... IDK, it was gross. I asked the waitress what she recommended since the reviews here are so volatile. I took her cue and ordered the broiled halibut with parmesean. I warned my husband ahead of time to order carefully, but he didn't listen to me and ordered a hamburger. Boy, did he regret it. He said it was the worst hamburger he's ever eaten in his life. My cocktail the "Pioneer" was prepared by a bartender with a heavy hand. It was tasty. But the star of the show was my halibut. As I've mentioned in previous reviews, I have a serious aversion to fish. But when you write food reviews, "when in Rome" is key to enjoyment. The halibut was incredible. It was fresh, cooked perfectly - tender, moist, and the crispy parmesean added the perfect splash of flavor. The presentation on the bed of tasty risotto and complimenting asparagus was excellent. Since my husband did not finish his hamburger, our clever waitress did not wait for us to ask for dessert. She waltzed out with a tray of options and tempted him to try something that he did enjoy. Since it was the end of season, I am betting that our experience may have actually been BETTER than normal because they weren't busy. I'd like to try again to see how they handle crowds, but I'm not sure if my husband with agree. We'll see. read more

Decided to stop here for drinks and an appetizer while waiting to check in room. Sat outside on a beautiful Homer Sunday afternoon. Ordered two IPA's and two double Bloody Mary's. Also ordered calamari for four of us to share. Waited a long time for our drinks. Calamari arrived pretty quickly. It was good but not enough remoulade sauce. Drinks finally arrived. Beer was cold and bloodies were enjoyed. Was surprised when we got the meal and price was doubled to $24. Extra shot was $12. Service so/so and expensive. read more

Consistent great food and service. We've visited each year and every time each persons dish is delicious

Located on the spit in Homer, AK. When you get to the hostess stand, ask for a table or booth in the back with a marina view. I had the fish and chips and it was outstanding. My co-worker also had it and agreed it was great. Service was excellent. Would definitely go back. read more

I'm confused why the reviews are so back and forth. We had a great experience with great food and a great view. It's the only restaurant on the spit that you can sit outside and enjoy yourself. The salmon was delicious and so were the halibut tacos. Sure, it was a bit pricey but what around Homer isn't? Clay was our server and he was awesome. Drinks were great too. It was one of the best meals we had visiting Homer and enjoyed it over Captain Patties or AJ's Steakhouse. read more

We initially stopped in for drinks while waiting for a friend that was on a fishing charter. The bar overlooks the shops and road of the spit. We were hesitant to order food due to poor reviews. We decided to split an order of halibut fish and chips and it was excellent. I'll add that the service was attentive and the food arrived faster than expected. I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. read more

Had the Calamari and Halibut Fish and Chips. Calamari portion was enough to share between a small group easily. It was tender and had a kick. Halibut came with three large portions and a conservative serving of fries. Halibut was delicious, especially when combined with the house made tartar sauce. The halibut came piping hot but the fries were not. Wait staff were outstanding and the atmosphere was positive. read more

I would give this place more of a 4.5 than just a 4.... The food was great I had the clam chowder, which was very fresh tasting.. I also had a salmon sandwich.! Only because the pound of King crab was $110.. The salmon was really good, it came with all the fixing, plus two strips of bacon... I had to try half of the salmon alone and off the sandwich .. it was just as good.! The service was spot on. But I seemed to be there for lunch kinda early.! The manger(I believe) probably read that I was a traveler and sat me in the back... which is a great thing.. because you can see the boats and the weather and the coastline.! Just an extraordinary site, if you've never been to a fishing town..! Every time I see it it gets me so excited.. the windows were completely clean so the pictures turnout perfect..! read more

seating was great the service was good. problem was for it not being that busy our order was missed due to a large party that arrive after us. So the (2) of us waited for a long time be fore being told this. people who arrived after us, left way be fore we did. the dish I got was 50 for the seafood sampler, there was not much on the plate except the risotto and it was not very warm. maybe it sat awhile before it was brought to our table. read more

Spent a day in Homer after the close of the season. We were here at lunchtime and this was one of the few places open on the Spit. The restaurant is quite large and very homey and casual. Lots of wood and fish themed decor added to the old time charm of the space. We were seated in a large booth to the side of the main entrance with large windows overlooking the harbor. Staff were friendly and service was good considering the shortage of staff during the time of Covid. I ordered the House Salad with Shrimp and a vinaigrette dressing. The salad greens were fresh and the shrimp was mild and tasty. It was a bit pricy for a salad, but the quality was good. Overall, I think it was good and would come back again. read more

Came here hesitantly due to some bad reviews so I am here to set the record straight! Our food was SUPER GOOD! Seafood Chowder, Halibut tacos and Salmon BLT- were delicious. We ate every bit. The tacos were huge and the fish fresh with a crispy batter. The salmon BLT had crispy bacon, a huge tomato slice, fresh lettuce and a very good dill sauce. Plus the bun was warm and soft. My husband and daughter loved their new tacos. Plus the service was friendly and the views outside our table's window entertaining. read more

Terrible service, food is mediocre, and they just want your money! We dinned with 6 adults and a baby. The host tried to put us on a table that would seat 4 adults comfortably. We asked to move to a table where we could all fit and we accommodated shortly after. Our server Amethyst was very sassy and unprofessional. We could hear her complaining as she talked to her coworkers near our table. She worked with an attitude and even tossed the last two entrees on the table as she raced to go take pictures with a table that was leaving as she said over her shoulder that she would be right back. The biggest issues I had was with the check. When I used to serve tables I would always let people know if there were up charges for any items, or inform the customers of any charges that they might not be used to seeing in their bill. There was $1 charge for each of the 3 ranch dressings that were ordered. They give military discount, but only to the person holding an ID. In all the restaurants that I've worked or dinned in the past, my experience is that we give the discount to the entire check. The worst part about it was that there was a %20 automatic gratuity added for large parties of 6 or more. I didn't see any signage of this on the window, at the host stand, or on the menu. Because I know how important tips are, if I receive decent service I'll tip %20. If I receive great or excellent service I've gone as much as %50. I rarely tip below %15 percent unless the service is absolutely horrible. This girl was definitely a %10 percent from me and probably most people would want to give her less. It seemed like because she knew that she would be getting an automatic %20 because of our "large" part of 6 that she could handle the table however she wanted because her tip was secure. This restaurant has a beautiful view, but is over priced and unprofessional. The fact that they don't have any signs of parties of 6 or more have a %20 gratuity added, they only give military discount to the person holding ID, and lack of training and expectations from their employees. Shame on them. Find somewhere else to spend your money. read more
