The Hardware Cafe is located in Downtown Warrenton. It is located in a 1907 building that was once…read morea hardware store. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The restaurant has kept the theme of the hardware store and the decor and menu items reflect that. From the minute I walked inside, I just loved it there and every time I turned my head I saw something else. The wood countertops and shelves are from the original building. I was immediately greeted when I walked inside and told that I could order at the register or take the menus to a table to decide. The breakfast menu is small but that was ok. I went with the biscuit and added egg, cheese and bacon. Then I got an iced tea too. The prices were very reasonable. While I was eating, I looked over the chalkboard menu on the wall that had the lunch sandwich combinations. I was tempted to get the Pipe Wrench. But you can order a Ladder, a Hammer, a Rod & Wheel, a Lure among others. Besides sandwiches, they offer hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, and desserts. Looks like another road trip is needed so I can order a sandwich.

I come here when I don't want to travel into Raleigh or Durham to go to one of the big box stores…read more They also carry the line of BGE (Big Green Egg) products - a huge plus, but their stock is limited. It's difficult to suggest they are competitive when their stock is limited to empty slots for what might be competitively priced items and large selection of higher priced items. As Angela pointed out, the staff isn't particularly proactive about finding out when items will be re-stocked or helping a potential customer find what they need. I cannot remember how many times I've walked in here only to walk out empty handed because I could not find what I was looking for and there was little or no help from staff. If the savings (extra gas and time vs price tag of items) is worth it for me to head to a big box store, off I'll go. Latest example for me was stopping this past weekend to find a new faucet for a bathroom sink. There were only one or two brands available at this T&C location, and nothing on the shelf under $40. That's not to say there wasn't something priced under $40, it just wasn't in stock. Off to the Big Blue Borg box store I went and found exactly what I was looking for, for about $25. That's more than enough of a difference for me to shop at the big box stores. For small items, T&C isn't a bad place to stop, for specific home projects that might end up in a higher price range - it might be wise to do some www research before stopping in.

The staff was just really friendly and they all were very helpful in helping me find what I needed and were knowledgeable about where everything I needed was located and what I needed period! I also really like that they have a pet friendly store. They have a pet cat named Stanley and he was beautiful and so sweet! I went back out to my truck and brought my little dog back in and the cashier even gave him a treat! The store is also very nicely decorated on the inside with all the beautiful Christmas trees! Really really like this store and it's staff! It's also very easy to find what you're looking for, very organized!

Being a kid from the 50s and '60s, all I knew were Mom and Pop stores. The candy store was owned by…read morethe Zimmermans, the bakery was owned by Sal and Dom, and the grocery store was owned by the D'Alessio family. Hard to find those anymore unless you head down Bessemer Avenue to McKnight Hardware. That place is Mom and Pop through and through. I have been going to McKnight Hardware since I moved to this neighborhood over 20 years ago and the staff rarely changes. The store is incredibly convenient and although I've never priced compared them with a Walmart or Home Depot, I'm happy to pay the price and support the OG hardware store in the area. Over the years I have seen many young men and women who started as teen helpers become cashiers and managers. The place has a family feel and the staff always knows exactly what they are talking about! It's also my go-to when I need to make some keys! I can always count on McKnight for whatever my needs are. Whether I'm looking for bird seed or glue or paint or a nail, they have it! I recently bought my weed whacker from them and I love how they are right down the street from me if I need it to be serviced, which I recently did. They used to have a pretty extensive garden nursery but it has slowed down over the years. In the early years I was even able to buy some lily pads! Lol But all of your other departments are well stocked and well priced and it's so nice to have a staff person that knows what they are talking about! There is plenty of parking right up front and it's conveniently located on Bessemer Avenue. I encourage you to patronize this place. It breaks my heart to see so many wonderful stores like McKnight Hardware shut down and give way to the big chains. We want to keep places with that Mom and Pop feel and this place deserves to continue to serve this neighborhood for years to come!
