While inside at the service desk, Roger was so friendly and courteous as he helped me with fixing the problem. He also gave me more help with locating other items in the store. As I went to the paint department, I also received great customer service in picking the necessary items. Wow! Such attention to a customer and it did not stop there...... the cashier also assisted me in getting a much needed drink I was looking for. Everyone I came in contact that day was so so so courteous and willing to help. This was worth noting. I found all I was looking for and prices were very reasonable. I was in and out for soil... or so I thought. I ended up stumbling across their clearance section, and let me tell you--it's a goldmine. They had lighting and other household gear marked down to 60% off retail. I scored four awesome headlamps for a fraction of the price. It's not something I planned for, but I'm definitely not mad about it. I believe it was Bill or Phil who helped me out--he was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I asked about grow lights, and not only did he make a solid recommendation, but he also walked me over to the right section. That kind of personal service is rare these days, and it left a great impression. One thing I noticed, though, was that the older staff members were genuinely friendly and helpful. They greeted me, engaged in conversation, and seemed to take pride in being there. In contrast, the younger staff felt a little checked out... not rude, but they were kind of low energy and not particularly invested. This is not a dealbreaker, but it is worth mentioning. The fantastic selection of hidden deals, and some of the best soil prices I've seen in town. It's clear that this Ace cares about its regulars and offers value that goes beyond convenience. During my time as a cashier, I was more than just someone who rang up transactions--I built relationships with customers, made them feel valued, and went beyond my job description daily. Whether it was helping a struggling customer, looking out for the remodel crew, or creating a welcoming atmosphere that brought people back, I made an impact. And yet, management chose to dismiss that value. I was denied basic breaks due to staffing shortages while others received preferential treatment. I witnessed a culture that encouraged complacency and protected incompetence while disregarding those who actually did the work. When I advocated for myself, I was met with condescension rather than appreciation. Now, with two locations severely understaffed, I'm curious--who will step up? Who will bring the heart and dedication that I, and others like me, brought every single day? I am a Military Veteran, honored with an Army Achievement Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and a NATO Medal. I am a graduate of Alverno College, multilingual, and have years of customer service and teaching experience. I am also someone who genuinely cares about people and the community. But despite all that, Ace Burlington would rather overlook real value to focus on people who do not contribute where it matters most--inside the stores, connecting with the communities that keep Ace alive. Ace prides itself on being "The Helpful Place," but when management fails to respect and retain its best employees, what kind of help is actually being provided? All of them are so friendly and helpful, they are always willing to assist or guide their customers. They have the best and great customer service for me. Their store is so huge, clean, and nice. They also have big parking lots and you can freely walk around and enjoy the ambiance of their location. Their location is so easy to go to, easy to find, you can go anytime like early morning, late, or even evening shopping. But I will recommend to go there early for you to avoid long lines and that time the place is not so crowded. When it comes to their products, you will be satisfied and will definitely shop there again. Be careful! It seems…read morethat this Ace (in particular) and other Ace stores in general like to indulge in price swapping and misleading prices. The price of many 'non-Ace brand' items are displayed lower than the actual price on the sales floor, only to be rung up 'higher' at the regular (higher) price at the register. If you purchased an item at the artificially lowered price you saw on the display, you would most certainly be surprised to find it rings out at a much higher price at the register. Most of the time, the higher price IS the actual price on the website, but not always. In any case, that's actually not the point. The point is that an artificially lowered price lures you into making a purchase you might not have normally made. The usual excuse from the store manager is that there was a 'pricing error', but it happens ALL THE TIME at this store (Waukegan, Genesee & Grand). For big-ticket items, you may want to snap a photo of the price with your phone for later reference at the register, and save your receipt. Better yet, skip all the hassle and just shop at another, more reputable store, or Amazon. Oh, and if you are a minority individual, they will follow you (clumsily and quite obviously) no matter how long you may have shopped at the store. Let the buyer beware.

When I called the service dept they immediately told me they would pick up the tractor and remedy the problem with no cost to me. This they did in record time. There is a lot of history in the Midwest and I've travelled around taking photos of old barns and cabins. While I'm not sure what I want to build with the aged wood, I can't help but want to fill my garage with as much as I can get. The shop is decent sized with a private parking area and there is a lot of stuff in the store. The front of the store has walls of siding, beams, shingles, and old artifacts found in the barns like tools and horse hardware. Everything looks so beautiful and the pricing is what you'd expect for the aged look. The rear of the store has an artistic room with home decor finished projects made out of the aged wood. I didn't see any giant lengthy beams but I asked and they have a warehouse up in Wisconsin where they store what you need. The staff was very friendly and willing to get you what you need. I'll definitely be back to load up on this beautiful wood.
