I paid for my purchase via credit card, nothing seemed wrong, and I walked away with my purchase in hand. However... I got a call from my bank about an unusual charge, so I went into my account, and found HARBOR FREIGHT TOOLS was trying to charge me SHIPPING on a product I already had in my hands!!! I cancelled the bogus charge, but my bank wound up putting a HOLD on my card for further purchases. So my word of advice is.... CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS AND BANK STATEMENTS IF YOU SHOPPED HERE. read more

I was greeted when I walked in, they even held the door open so I could easily pass through with the cart. Kent, WA store I bought an air compressor here, but it turned out to have defective heads. I've gone back multiple times to replace the heads, but 1 leaked out the casting, another one leaked out the crank, etc. I'm on the 5th head, and have lost a lot of time and money at work trying to get this fixed, as well as burnt up belts with these issues. And, they're still selling these defective heads!! Why hasn't the store manager pulled these defective heads from the shelf? By now the store manager Stephen and the old man Bob? are rude and over it. Isn't it a crime to be knowingly selling defective merchandise? It's clear they only want to sell things, not responsibly take care of issues. Buyer beware. They knowingly sell defective merchandise, then act like it's your fault or you're the issue. I've been coming here for many years now and i like the fact that everything is very consistent with this harbor freight location. I never have to worry about unexpected surprises. And I actually mean that with every aspect of harbor freight. What you see is what you get and that's comforting. Although on occasion you might find some of the products to be less than high quality, the majority of them are perfectly acceptable. And when you factor in the very low prices they sell these products for, it makes them mostly worth it. And the prices really are fantastic. Another thing that is fantastic about this place is the customer service. The employees are usually quite friendly, and they will try to do the best they can to answer your questions, or to help you in whatever way they can. At least that has been my experience. Another thing is that they never falsely advertise any of the products they sell, nor the operating hours. I have had on multiple occasions been turned away from a business or encountered locked doors even though I had arrived during regular business hours. More then a couple businesses advertise the operating hours as one thing, but then stop operating and shut the doors earlier than they promised to the people which is such a terrible thing to do considering these customers have already spent who knows how much time, energy, and likely gas making the trip down there only to find out it's all been a complete waste and absolutely for nothing. And this was all after looking up the hours of the business prior to leaving. This Harbor freight location doesn't do that. They do what they say, and they operate exactly how they say they operate. It gives me a sense of trust in harbor freight that I have long since lost for a number of other businesses. I had to do an exchange so I called ahead to see if the items were in stock since I was driving a bit - I didn't ask for them to be pulled aside or anything. I came in a couple hours later, pulling up with my big box of returns heading to find the item among the unfamiliar aisles and the woman who was working saw me as she walked past and let me know the items I called about were up at the front! Terrible customer service. Attempted to return under $10 in purchases on Friday am 9/27 I made and was told I need a receipt. I have returned multiple things over the past 2 years with no problem at various locations including this one with no receipt. Clerk as well as manager told me they cannot look up my purchase where every time I have returned something they have been able to look it up with my phone number. I asked her to look it up with my phone number to which I was told by the manager that they do not store any of that information. So they flat out blatantly lied to me. Great customer service Kent Harbor Freight .I will not be back here harbor freight for this dishonest service. I make over 100,000 a year and was treated like a homeless person trying to return something worth 200. I was trying to return $7 worth of items. Shame on you Kent. I see from other reviews this apparently is an issue here at this location. Update: went to a different location on Sunday and like I suspected absolutely no problem returning my measly $7 worth of items. Do you have a receipt sir? No sorry. I am totally not a person who would ever buy anything in here just because I don't know what half the stuff is for -- if something breaks with my car, or my house, or anything, I call the professionals. Or my boyfriend, who loves tinkering with stuff and absolutely LOVES this place. He says the prices are really great and he can usually find everything he needs here. We've also gotten free flashlights, screwdrivers and tape measures from their coupons. I don't like staying here too long because the smell of rubber gives me a headache pretty quickly. But I do enjoy the selection of giant sledgehammers, machetes and crowbars... I pretend I'm a character in Dead Island or something, though I'm really really careful not to actually smash anyone's head in if they walk into the aisle I'm in. I'd say if you need to fix something, it's a good bet they'll have the tools you need to do it. read more

You know what, this is not the place to go if you don't know what you want or need a bunch of questions answered. And yes, "understaffed" is the word of the day. BUT, if you know exactly what you want and what to do with it, this is the place to buy cheap tools. If you find their ads and sales and have came here enough to experience the bad times with it being packed, then you'll probably know when to come here when it's the non busy times so you can score the PHAT deals! Call ahead if you are worried about something being sold out or not. Honestly, I think the other stores are over prices for basic tools, and the prices here prove it. I've left this place pissed off before, but it's usually some idiot returning something taking forever and I had a time constraint, or I didn't call ahead to check the stock. And if I buy something electrical like a drill or band saw and it breaks, I won't buy it here again. I'll probably go Craftsman or something with a warranty. But it's the chance I'm willing to take. All of my motor driven Chicago tools still work fine. I got a parts washing bin here for 1/2 of the price Napa would have charged me and it's the SAME QUALITY made in China. Cheap prices = inadequate staffing. I went to buy a digital caliper gauge and a surge protector from HF Tools today (about $30 worth of stuff) and ultimately left without them, despite the fact I had them in my hands, was standing in the check-out line, and was ready-to-buy. They were woefully understaffed today (the cashier went on about how much of a slacker her coworkers were who called in sick and left her as the only one cashiering -- I wouldn't want to have a coworker talk "smack" about me like that) and only one manager who could authorize returns -- he was also the only one who could assist someone with loading a DIY gazebo into their car too. Thus, there was a back-up at the sole register and after waiting 10 minutes for the manager to come inside, I decided my time was more valuable than saving $5 or less on the products HF sells compared to a host of other options, including Home Depot, McLendon's, Lowe's, etc. Additional issues: the prices on the shelf for the items I was going to buy were more than what was advertised on the HF web page. Also, expect most if not all of the tools are Chinese manufactured (sold under the "Chicago Tools" name) and quality varies. Still, if you go in with the expectation to have lousy service, be forced to wait an extra long time, and you'll be buying tools that may or may not last a reasonable amount of time, HF might be what you consider a bargain. I have had fair success with the items I had purchased there before (I've shopped there 2-3 times) but in each visit, the service got worse. read more

This a place I see ads for weekly. The prices are carazy low and if you don't mind buying tools with a name you don't recognize, you have found the Promised Land. I think I bought something from them online once and the price was about half of anywhere else. I just so happened to ask my contractor last week where he got his tools and he said harbor freight. He said in his trade a lot of things break and get stolen and harbor freight is the best place to get quality tool that you won't cry about if they break or get robbed. I went down, got some tarps, paint brushes and other essential knick knacks and I have to say I save about 30% off of my previous secret stash store. Not a lot of helpful people wandering around and a friendly place for 1st time tool shoppers, but let's face it, even in the bigger stores, it's a tough place to shop unless you get a knowledgeable helpful person who understands. To boot, this review page is for the Kent, WA location specifically, not Harbor Freight the company, or a specific tool. Ok, that said, I had an awful experience with Harbor Freight Customer Service after ordering a product online. It arrived damaged and incomplete. After going around with them several times about a 10 week delay to ship the missing parts, etc. I finally decided to just stop in my local store to plead for help. I was greeted at the door by a really warm cashier who immediately put me at ease and let me know they could help. She and her manager bent over backwards to ensure I walked out the door a happy customer. I could not be more pleased and they definitely turned my experience around. The Walmart of hardware stores will truly disappoint. If you need quality products like tape and welding wire, skip this place. You are just throwing your money away. If you want cheap tools, great - Just plan on them breaking, so make sure you buy the lifetime guarantee. The location is great and its a weekend stop in a pinch, but anything other than a tarp, bungee cords or a tool bag and you will need to buy it again - I promise. I wish I could rate the people who come in rather than the store. A lot of people who come here are trash. I see them spitting out their sunflower seeds on the floor and on the shelving. They'll take the gloss paint and spray the shelves. They leave their trash like bottles and chip bags on the shelves. They open packaging and leave merchandise scattered everywhere. They rip open the boxes of disposable gloves even though there's already one in the shelf. I can see why the employees can be bitter. And I hope the criminals that do these things see this review. Some of their tools are cheap, disposable in some cases, or meant for light duty. Very affordable, and they are constantly updating their merchandise to cater to higher end, higher quality tools for more serious work. I recommend the 45pc Hercules driver bit set. High quality and has satisfied me every time I've used it. All the Pittsburg hand tools have lifetime warranties as well which is a plus. Ask for the supervisor that will occasionally wear the bandana. He always wants to make sure all the customers are satisfied and helped. Lastly, don't try and get the employees to break company policy, they get agitated and it's not fair to try and make them break the rules so you can get a discount on an already very affordable item. Don't be afraid to ask if there are more items in the stock room, whether the sales floor is empty or if you want a nicer liking box. Also, don't hesitate to ask where something is. While this is the case, this is the place to buy decent power tools when you are on a budget that will hold their own against more expensive offerings that you would find at other hardware stores. Is this a store for you? Yes, because you can buy cheap tools forged in China for 1/4 the price of the competition. Do I buy my tools here? Yes and No...If I want something to last a lifetime I do the research, and pay extra somewhere else. If I need a specialized tool that will rarely be used or is only needed once I'll buy it here. If it is a precise measuring tool I'll buy it elseware. Harbor Freight is a good place to buy rubber-gloves, a drill press, drill bits, a backup (emergency) tool set, specialized automotive tools, anvils, lathes, table-clamps, rotary tools and all kinds of other handy tools. It's a good place to go if you know how to put things together yourself. We got some Adirondack chairs here for a great price. Everything is a great price and sometimes you're surprised by great qaulity. Though usually you get what you pay for. My dad buys a lot here, I buy here too on occasion. Some of the tools don't stand the test of time. But If you have experience you'll be able to suss it out without being surprised. The staff is chatty and pleasant, but not particularly quick or direct. It takes them a little while to find something. read more

A place for cheap made in China tools. Some of their power tools are actually the same ones as you see at Home Depot, but just rebranded and cheaper. If you're handy and bottom dollar is your bottom line, this is the place to be. The quality of the tools may not be the highest, but it'll get the job done! I got a rotary hammer for $59, but was able to use it to put in the piers for a basement upfit, and it still works great! Anything too mechanical, don't touch it, such as an mortiser. However, I had pretty good luck with their drill press, sander, dust collectors, and their hand tools. The staff is pretty friendly and way more knowledgable than the morons at Home Depot's Tool Department. Rule of thumb of HF is: Try and play with the tools before buying it. read more

Yes, I really would prefer to buy All Snap On Tools.... but I can NOT afford it..... BUT I can afford to buy tools at Harbor Freight... the tools give me Very Good Service at A FRACTION of the cost of the Name Brand Tools... I bought an OBD II Engine Code Reader and it paid for itself the first time I used it... I bought an 110v electric winch.... it ain't perfect... but it has helped me get a few impossible jobs done.... I also buy miscellaneous hand tools as needed for my DIY repairs....
