Hands down one of my favorite bites in Oslo! I couldn't help myself and had to try the infamous brown cheese/sour cream/jam combo as well as a super sweet vaffle... Yes, they are both worth the hype and I will say I was stuffed to the gills after eating two vaffle by myself. The shop itself is very small but the line moves quicker than you expect - the vaffles come piping hot for you to enjoy outside or there is a small area inside you can quickly enjoy and be on your way. Love the person who was behind the counter making the vaffle - super friendly and eager to give you suggestions on toppings; also has great taste in music! You MUST add this to your list of stops in Oslo!

I stopped in on a food tour and I think this was my favorite thing I ate all day. Each waffle was made fresh so it was nice and warm. We got ours with brown cheese, jam, and cream and it was incredible. The brown cheese has almost a caramel flavor and the jam does a good job of adding some sweetness. Highly recommend!

The waffle so nice, we went here twice. Delicious. Don't miss this opportunity to try a waffle with brown cheese.

    Yummy super classic waffle.

This place is a MUST when visiting Oslo. The super classic version with jam, cream and brown cheese is an absolutely bizarre combination that works really well. The server was fast and friendly. It is a small shop with just a few seats but it literally only takes 2 minutes to gobble down a scrumptious waffle.

Unfortunately, I was greeted by pouring rain in Oslo (which lasted the entire day). This also meant that I wanted a sweet treat, so I made my way quickly to a waffle place posted by multiple travel blogs. Haralds Vaffel offers Norwegian style waffle with their signature being served with brown cheese, romme (sour cream) and jam (69NOK). From my understanding, brown cheese is a distinctly Norwegian dairy product made of whey, which can be controversial, however I actually enjoy the caramel-like taste. I also found it interesting that they told us to eat it handheld like a taco. All in all, it was a good experience, taste wise nothing mind blowing but a good flavour combination for sure. I would recommend coming here because I love the overall Grünerløkka neighbourhood feel, with many cute coffee shops, vintage stores, and eclectic boutiques.

Def tasty and so eating different and unique. Had to stand in line twice for a second and totally worth it. Not much seating available.

An idea hatched in 2013, when a Swede named Jonathan Larsson began selling Waffles from the window of his bedroom to offset Oslo's cost of living, Haralds Vaffel has inhabited Grünerløkka consistently since 2019 and remains a staple for quick eats to locals and visitors alike. Focused on the Norwegian Waffle, thinner and softer than those of Belgium with less rise than versions sold in America, guests are invited to choose from a variety of toppings ranging savory to sweet and with or without Ice Cream. Lightly sweet with a hint of Cardamom, the Waffle's softness nearly akin to a Crepe, "Superclassic Recommendation #1" features Raspberry Jam and Sour Cream spread halfsies while three slices of Brunost from the block add hints of Caramel.

I think this place is a little over hyped. The waffle was good, it came out hot. I was not a fan of the brown cheese, it was not sweet at all and didn't go with the jam in my opinion. The waffle is quite soft and not overly sweet, I think the toppings really make it. I wouldn't make a special trip to try this place but it's good. There's a few seats inside but not many.

Cute little waffle ice cream shop! Stopped in after I heard Norway is known for their waffles. I got the waffle with jam & blueberry ice cream & whipped cream. It was around 9USD for this. There was inside and outside seating. You order at a counter then they'll call your order once it's ready. They also have an option to order online in advance as it gets quite crowded there! I really enjoyed my waffle all waffles should have ice cream on them!

We're visiting Oslo from the USA, last day here. Several people suggested we needed to try Waffles w/Brown Cheese, so we googled, yelped, and trip-advisored "best waffles". Haralds was king of all the recommendations we found! So we started our trek to try the best waffles in Oslo. 30 minutes later - we confirmed: YES! This golden delicacy was in fact TERRIFIC!! We both got sour cream, raspberries, and brown cheese (as suggested on their poster). By the time we got our order outside for seating, it was a fabulously melty delicious mess!! Both of us were elated with our first "waffles & brown cheese" experience! (For the unenlightened - as we were - brown cheese is sort of a cross between American & Cream Cheese - very mild, slightly sweet.) Haralds is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall location on a busy pedestrian street. The folks working the counter were delightful - efficient, cheerful, helpful, fun. Dont know if - or when - we'll be back in Norway, but Haralds will be one of our favorite memories for a good long time.

Waffle with butter, raspberry jams and brown cheese. Aka crack. Thank goodness I'd have to travel around the planet to get my hands on this again. I'd gain 100 pounds if they were closer. The waffle warm fresh and crispy, smothered in melting butter, raspberry jam and fresh sliced brown cheese. The staff was super friendly and quick when they were pretty busy. All I can say you have to try it. It's worth it, walk it off.

Haralds Vaffel is definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in this Nordic city! Get the classic waffle which will consist of sour cream, jam, and brown cheese. Yes, brown cheese, and yes, it's good! Get some ice cream on top and have a great life. This spot is a gem and I'd definitely come back if I ever find myself back in Oslo.

Norway, Norway, Norway will I ever, not come back!!! Meaning that I will come back!! Where do I begin, actually, I'm going to take a min to apologize on behalf my Northern lads, the Canadians. We walked in and were having a great convo with the vaffleman, when -cue, enter foul wench... -foul wench - wow they sell waffles here? -foul wench's friend - uh yes they do. -foul wench - do they speak English? -foul wench's friend - yes, they do. You gotta try the brown cheese waffle. It's delightful. -vaffleman - hi ladies. Welcome. First time here? -foul wench - yes, first time. I'm actually here from London. Vaffleman - welcome and hope you enjoy your visit. -foul wench - well I'm not British even though I practically live there. Vaffleman - from the US? Foul wench - *raises her voice* I am not American. I am not like those shits. Never compare me again! We are sooo much nicer than they are and would never equate myself to the same level. Vaffleman - oh excuse, the accent was deceiving. Foul wench - we might sound similar. But I am super nice and I'm not rude. Why would I ever associate with them... Poor vaffleman... I wanted to intervene but the vaffleman had it all taken care of. He brought out her order and changed her fate! No longer was she the foul wench, she transformed into a civilized person who thanked him and proceeded to apologize for her behavior. Vaffleman changes lives. So never hesitate to stop and transform your taste buds and self. Its the ayahuasca for the stomach

Return trip a few years later to a hip "Southern American" restaurant in the artsy district of Oslo, a short bus ride (or even walk) from downtown. As someone from the southern United States, where folks are judged on their fried chicken and BBQ, Lucky Bird hits it out of the park. Simply some of the BEST fried chicken I've ever had -- ANY WHERE. The chicken was perfectly moist, and the breading was crispy without feeling heavy or overly oily. The creamed corn and mashed potatoes were top notch. The only complaint about Lucky Bird is that there weren't more locations around Oslo. This is certainly a gem hiding in plain site. On the return trip the fried chicken was still living up to the standard. Delicious. Overall the sides can really put a dent in your wallet, so you want to be careful with your order. Oh, and the tea - don't order it if you're expecting a traditional southern American sweet tea. Their tea is not that. It's a mix of tea and lemonade it tasted like. This was also one of the few restaurants in Norway we found to have full service (meaning a server took your order) Overall I give Lucky Bird five stars out of five.

There was both indoor and covered outdoor seating. We did not have a reservation but came early enough to snag an inside table. It was the right choice as the rain really started to come down about that time. One caveat was that we had to wrap up our meal within 1.5 hours which wasn't a problem for us. The menu was unique as it was printed inside a newspaper. One just had to flip pages to find the drink, food and dessert menus. Given the namesake of the restaurant we opted to try three different salmon preparations: Our favorite dish was the salmon tataki which was lightly grilled in a ponzu sauce. If it was larger then we would've gladly eaten this as a main dish. The grilled salmon came in second as it was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were a great accompaniment, creamy with truffle flavors. Our least favorite was the hot smoked salmon and pasta salad. There was an unusual taste to the pasta salad that detracted from the salmon. Service was just ok and it took a long while before we could get any attention to close our check. While tipping wasn't expected in Norway, the Salmon's credit card terminals start with a tipping option screen before you can pay.
