The coffee is drip coffee or machine latte/ mocha etc. I had the raspberry pastry and it tasted like the American toaster strudel. Seriously delicious and so well priced. With the current NOK to USD conversion rate, pastries were about $2 usd each (!!!) Would definitely go earlier in the day when there's a greater selection. Backstube was about 5 minutes walking distance from our Airbnb in Oslo, and was the perfect place to get breakfast - so perfect that we went back all three days that we were there for our breakfast. All were at reasonable prices, about 13-18NOK each (about $1.60 to $2.50 each) We tried the: Cinnamon Bread: A little dry, and not much cinnamon flavor. Raspberry and Mascarpone Pastry: Generous filling, both flavors complemented each other well. Custard Pastry: The custard was delicious, and the pastry was very subtly sweet and very soft. Raisin Roll: I usually hate raisins, but this one had like a vanilla crème within the pastry, which made it very easy to eat. Apple Turnover: Very delicious - crispy outside sprinkled with sugar crystals, and the inside was generously filled - one of my favorites. Ham & Cheese Croissant: One of the best croissants I've ever had. Spinach & Feta Pastry: Amazing. So much filling and the pastry was so flaky and delicious - my favorite savory pastry here. Pain Au Chocolat: Just a regular pain au chocolat, nothing special - delicious, but not spectacular Nougat Croissant: This one was on special, for 12 kr instead of 17, so we got one. We were surprised to find out that it was a chocolate hazelnut filling. Not sure if this was actually what it was supposed to be (we asked for it off the rack, because we got there as soon as the store opened, so maybe the worker grabbed the wrong one), but still very delicious. read more

Great morning, pastries for breakfast in Oslo. Went there several time on recent visit.

The soft pretzels (Laugenbrezel) are fantastic, so are the cakes and the bread. Not a fan of their cinnamon rolls and other pasties but the børek with feta cheese and the focaccia with tomatoes and olives are wonderful. Really good value and you can also eat there and enjoy a coffee or tea with your bakery products. Wish they'd offer jam and butter with the yummy croissants and I understand that it is more a bakery than a coffee shop. There is also a branch in Oslo City and the new spacious one at Tøyen torget next to the underground entrance/ exit is opening in September 2017:-) read more

Wow! What an awesome bakery with delicious, fresh products and very reasonable prices. Also, this might be the first/best place in Oslo that I've found that sells soft pretzels (and pretzel sticks) that are delicious! Word of warning: really annoying high schoolers like to descend upon the place during their lunchtime break at 11:30-12ish and they're pretty rude, pushy, and make it a very unpleasant experience for the rest of the customers. Awesome place! Great to see a place that isn't Joe and the Juice or one of the many chain stores infecting Oslo today. So many pastries and dessert items, it would be hard to not find something you like. They also have all kinds of great bread loafs made daily. In the morning they have different items, so that is worth noting. They also sell coffee which is pretty good, BUT. The only complaint I would have is they don't have many places to sit, so it really is designed to be a place where you grab what you want and go. read more

Four times I went here while in Oslo for delicious, fresh baked goods. The prices are terrific for sticker-shocked tourists--and may actually be better than prices in the States. We may or may not have (we did) come here 4 times in 48 hours. Granted it was across from our AirBnB, but the pastries were amazing. Coffee, not so much. My friend is a pretzel fanatic and she loved them. I also enjoyed their sourdough breads, croissants, danishes, and pan au sjokolade (can't spell). I absolutely love their variety from the usual bakeries in Oslo, and the price is really good! I've tried a few different of their pastries, and I must say I really like most of them. I did once get a piece of chocolate cake that was rather dry though.. All in all, definitely a place to visit! read more
