PS: This has been bugging me: what's up with the person on the laptop on the Har Mar sign? (See my photo of the LCD TV with the blue background and the person in the red top.) Is this meant to imply that we should be shopping online and Har Mar has just given up? If so, that's a bold marketing choice. If not, they might wish to reconsider and push the benefits of shopping in person ("real life") and maybe not draw any comparisons to (or conjure thoughts of) online shopping. In 1980 Har Mar was severely damaged by a tornado. After that massive remodeling turned them into an enclosed mall. Now and in the past decade or more access is mainly by outside entrance. So why even enter the mall? Well, I was told by my Dr., if I want a walking mall in the winter this is the place to go and they were correct. I could walk the speed I wanted without fear of bumping anyone. Please note, the men's room has the door removed. All the remaining stores, and there aren't many, have no access from the mall, so you still have to drive around from one end to the other. The few big name stores seem to be doing fine. This place reminds me of another dead mall that hung on in Green Bay. Port Plaza was a downtown mall, built ugly as sin. If I didn't know better I would have thought it was federal prison in the heart of a nearly dead downtown. Anyway, in it's last gasp there was a Aunt Annie's Cookie store open and a kids play area. I bought what was a lukewarm coffee and dried Oatmeal Raisin and tried to talk to the severely depressed single employee. I think she said something like, "get me out of here". I said this should be closed soon, she responded sharply, "...I mean this city"! The eye store at Har Mar, Cub, Barnes & Nobel and a few others seem to be doing well. What could they do with the rest. Rebuild to a smaller service mall, lease the empty fronts to a flea market, a food shelf. Will I walk here again? Probably not there were some other walkers but some of the loiterers were sketchy and it's just too depressing to see this mall anymore. read more

I grew up going to Har Mar when it was busier and livelier. Now it's a ruin of what once was. Theres still a couple stores in there like Michael's, Famous foot wear, k&G and a couple others but lots of vacant storefronts, and emptiness. Lights are dim and old school. I feel it could come back to life but will need some good store owners to come and revitalize. It brought nostalgia for sure read more

Hardy any stores left.... and for the ones still functioning like Barnes & Noble are only accessible from the outside, rightfully so , since it would be dangerous now to even walk through this vacant mall with empty tenants...why is it even standing? Thank you, Amazon! Killed a perfectly good mall. You need more money. Five stars for this place all the way when I was a kid. Two movie theaters! An arcade! Tons of people everywhere! Fast forward a generation. Deader than George Washington. Both movie theaters gone. Arcade? Gone! People? Gone! It is a total ghost town. I'm amazed that the Barnes & Noble has managed to hang on this long. I'll bet my two hondo vs. your hondo that it will be gone within two years. Anybody? Nobody goes to a bookstore anymore. Nobody goes to a record store anymore. We just give everything to Jeff Bezos and Apple. Why is wealth getting so concentrated in the upper echelon? Geez...let me think about that. The only thing currently keeping Har Mar on life support is the restaurants and the grocery store. People always gotta eat nearby where they live. Might as well just tear down all the vacant space and leave the food emporiums as stand alones. Whole lot of room for park space or something more useful than all the vacant storefronts that have been there for decades now. read more

This was my stomping ground in high school (Movie Theatre/Barnes and Nobles ) It's sad now that all of the stores I used to go to is closed except for the Barnes and Nobles amarshalls. Har Mar Mall - Shopping Centers Near Me - Saint Paul, Minnesota

Beautiful old mall from the dawn of The Age of Malls. When this mall was built it was a big mall. It was special to be able to shop indoors when it was five below and you liked not having body parts freeze off. It's not a dying mall (amazingly). Instead, it's just an old mall that stubbornly refuses to curl up and die. Like me. I have to admire old things that stick around just to annoy young people. This mall will probably be around long after Rosedale (a bigger, newer, nearby mall that has always sucked) has been bulldozed and replaced by an outdoor lifestyle center complete with open walking paths and high quality signage and many options for busy moms including having their body parts freeze off (hey, it's still Minnesota). Me, I like the Har Mar. Harold and Marie. Long may they reign. Indoors, baby. The only way to mall. read more

Um... so I don't know how old this mall is, but it's "that mall" that every large area has that is old, outdated and hanging on. There are still some tenants worth visiting -- Schuler Shoes, Michaels, Barnes & Noble. But most of them have external entrances, so there's no real reason to go IN the mall that much. In fact, just driving by, it's kind of hard to tell that it's not a strip center and is indeed an actual enclosed mall. Everything about the inside of the mall reminded me of the malls I used to visit when I was a kid -- very 80s :-) They had the big wide cream colored tile, the old barred-off security gates on all of the many vacant storefronts, and they had those "curtains" of white twinkle lights that hang from the ceiling. The thing that entertained me the most was that there's an entrance to Cub Foods INSIDE the mall. Well, at least it's convenient, but I'm not sure it's going to be tops on the list of area malls. I'm sure that at one point in time this mall was bustling and full of appeal. But time has not been kind, and the mall is in need of an update. read more

Good news this place is getting better and better. I used to run there just for the Home Goods store and then Marshalls came along...and now Tuesday Morning is over there along with Burlington Coat factory. I love it....all my favorites in one easy shopping center. I typically have no issue with parking here or the little walk inside. There is a Barnes and Nobel if you want to grab yourself a coffee and snack. You can even get your grocery shopping done at Cub! read more

Review #666 had better deservedly earn the mark of the beast. This was once a back in the day fun mall that always kept me away from MOA. When word came out that the theaters would be shut down and move to Rosedale Mall for the mega stadium theater, I had this cool idea. Since the theaters were clearly divided in two, including the entrances, why not keep the smaller one as a second run theater, since most of the present ones are so damn inconvenient, and others just gross. This was a very unique layout, as it had individual bathrooms complete with sink in a very art deco style. When I saw a fucking Staples had replaced it, I knew it deserved a one way ticket to Hell. read more

Yes this mall is kind of ghetto, but they do have some things going for them. For one thing they are right next to cub foods and super target so you could get a few errands run at once. What I really like is that there is a home goods store and a marshals in same place and you don't have to go outside in the cold to get from one to another. They also have a pet store where you can go pet puppies which is few and far between these days. While I don't condone by puppies at pet stores, it's kind of hard to resist going in for a quick "pet and run", which I've been guilty of from time to time. There's also a plato's closet if you want to sell some old clothes or dig for treasures. Some new stores are popping up to like the lands end outlet store with not quite perfect items but good deals on sweaters, coats and even pet clothes if you look. There's also a new store selling all hand made artwork which had fun jewelry, paintings, home goods and more for very reasonable prices. When I was there they had a live artist drawing for a behind the scenes look. If you can get past the atmosphere it can be a good place to pop into and grab a few deals. read more

Har Mar is one of those typical malls built in the 1970s (or something like that) that has a variety of failing businesses because now everyone can afford to give their children cars that they use to drive to the Mall of America. It is a sleepy place where the locals can shop without a ton of urban kids beating up their kids. A useful first stop for assorted stuffs if you're in the area. read more

I love coming to Har Mar mall! There's a couple stores and restaurant here. It's definitely an old run down mall, small but I don't mind it. I don't come here often but when I do, i usually stop at Marshall's or Kyoto. read more

I went here on A Saturday evening around 6pm. Not knowing that the mall.. inside part (with the stores that don't have doors that are accessible from the out side) was closed. I thought to myself who closes a mall at 6pm on a Saturday night? So i had to miss out on a few of may favorites. Like the rock and gem store. A couple of clothes stores. It was a bit cool out. So i was disappointed. And ended up having to walk around the entire outside of the mall to get to ..Marshalls, Burlington and homegoods. Then I had to walk all the way around Cub.. (no sidewalks by the way). To get to K&G. Had to cut across parking lot to get to Barns and noble. Spent an hour there. Then went to Michaels arts n crafts. But mind you I had to walk outside of the mall. It was a bit cooler by this time. I walked to old Chicago. Treated my self to dinner. And sat outside for my uber ride home close to 10 pm. Im upset that the inside mall closed at 6. It just blows my mind that they would do tbis on a Saturday night? No wonder why so many kids get into trouble. There is no where to go on a Saturday night! Then they don't open til noon on Sunday. .and close at 5..that i get. But Saturday come on? read more

The businesses in Har Mar Mall are GREAT but who ever owns the building needs to do some serious upgrades. We ate at a lovely restaurant but the owner kept apologizing for structural issues (leaky ceiling) that the Mall owners were not fixing. I'm sure it hurts their business which is unfortunate as the food was amazing!! C'mon mall owners..step up and do your job!!! read more

This mall has gone through it's ups and downs over the years. I wouldn't really consider this place a "mall" since each store has an entrance from the outside. However, in Minnesota's brutal winters, this place can be a great place to get a lot of errands done at once. The stores that are here right now are fantastic. You can go to Cub, B&N, HomeGoods, Marshalls, Michaels, Staples and grab a bite to eat all in one place. Fantastic. read more

If one is expecting a glamorous, high-end mall with all the trappings they will be disappointed. However, Har-Mar has its secret charms and its own place in Roseville (where you might be aware of a much larger mall just past the highway...). Today's Har-Mar is a far cry from the 70s/ 80s heyday when it was really rocking and had a hybrid movie theatre where up front (where the Staples is now) there was a grand cinema that was one of the first large-scale movie theatres in a Twin Cities suburb (back when all of the larger theatres were in one of the Downtowns) and behind it (where K&G now stands) were a collection of smaller theatres that went up in the 80s....like a row of little shoeboxes that happened to show movies. Har-Mar aged and lost its movie trade to Rosedale, but did it falter and become a "dead mall?" No-it has reinvented itself. It now houses a collection of mid-sized chain stores (think "medium box" as opposed to "big box") that are geared towards the bargain hunters and working class....not an upscale shop to be seen, but good quality merchandise and discounts everywhere. As a matter of fact, many of the stores are discount/ off-price stores: Burlington Coat Factory, Marhsall's, Home Goods, Tuesday Morning. And yet it still has a few holdovers from the old days-such as an independent pet store and a Hallmark shop. It can be almost thought of as an overgrown strip mall that happens to have a roof and a climate-controlled environment to keep one comfy going from store-to-store in a harsh Minnesota winter. And most of the major stores have entrances from both inside and outside the mall. If you have a senior citizen in your life this is a great choice for a shopping trip because the mall is compact and can be fairly easily traveled from one end to the other-and having a Cub Foods is something most indoor malls cannot claim (and a grocery run is always appreciated)...and there are many dining choices as well if you want to take Grandma for a bite. read more

It's hard to separate the lackluster film I saw at Har Mar from the lackluster theater I saw it in. There's got to be better theaters in the Twin Cities area to catch a blockbuster. read more

During a family trip, my mom and I were dropped off at a door. First time ever going to this mall. We tried to go to Home Goods and, because it's a mall where shops are attached through a mutual space and walk way or so I thought, we went into Michael's first. We went to the area where it connected to the mall and the gate was closed, sign saying that we needed to enter on Snelling Ave to access the rest of the mall. We were on Snelling Ave and many people were walking around outside and confused about how to enter. We found an open door and a security guard informed us the hallways were closed and we needed to walk around the entire mall...like back through the loading dock area and everything....to access the store. Very stupid since I could see the Home Goods down the hall through the gate. We just gave up and left. This mall sucks. If you want to just browse and check out a bunch of stores, like a real mall has, do not come here. read more

This mall is half empty and the east side of it DEAD. The half facing Snelling is doing ok. The rear of the building is sporadically filled and is a ghost of its former self. The mall dates back to the early '60s! The only original store left is the barbershop. Back in the day this was THE spot to go, even with Rosedale nearby. The owners in 1980 or so put an addition on the back to expand it and that very edition is empty...some retail space has been vacant for about 20 years! Barnes and Noble is the biggest in the country from what I hear and is the best thing about the mall. read more

I live in the area and have enjoyed this small mall for many years. It has some great shops including Barnes and Nobles, Burlington Factory, Marshalls and Hallmark Cards. I also enjoy walking this mall during the winter months on cold days. However, the this past week I visited the mall twice and noticed a number of adults who are not shopping or walking but appear to be moving from bench to bench in the mall. They may be homeless or just hanging out at the mall for whatever reason. One woman in particular had all her possessions in a shopping cart and was talking loudly to herself as she moved around the mall with her cart. I witnessed this two days in a row so I am assuming that she frequents the mall on a regular basis bringing along her personal belongings. I looked for mall security to share my concerns but could not locate anyone so called the number listed on the security office door and was told that security was not on the premises. I shared my concerns with the person who took the call and asked that security follow-up with my concerns. Not sure what will happen if anything but would like to see the mall management follow-up with security on this issue. read more

I love Harmar Mall. Yes one of the oldest in the twin cities and it has had some good tenants and not so good tenants. Recently I saw that Tuesday Mornings and Burlington Coat Factory is going in. Yippee.... yes it is an older building but they do take care of it even if it is a little outdated. I love this mall and hope it stays around. The one thing I miss is the theater, yes it would have needed a major overhaul for the times but the bathrooms were incredible. In the womens each stall had its own toilet sink, and vanity with mirror,,,,, sooooo cool. Wish I would have run over and grabbed one for my basement when they gut it.. Oh well.... read more
