I hardly ever walk down Nicollet Mall. Prior to the last Super Bowl we hosted this year Nicollet Mall had been under construction for over 3 years. It's amazing that it's finally back open. Can't really tell that anything has changed though. Metro Transit buses still operate up and down Nicollet Mall, which is a nice way to get from one end to another, or to any destination from downtown I guess. They added some giant games like connect four and bags near the IDS. I also noticed they added some seating along Nicollet mall. Nice metal colorful lawn style chairs. Nicollet mall seems to be the "hangout" spot downtown during mid day. Very busy. During the month of June, at least for the last few years the have the 'Parade of Pianos' downtown. Pianos placed all over. It's cool to walk down Nicollet & hear people playing them every few blocks. Can be dirty at times. Lots of pigeons & birds in general. Lots of food places on Nicollet Mall!

If you're in Downtown Minneapolis you'll probably end up somewhere on Nicollet Mall whether you make it a destination or not, because it is in the center of it all. It's a 12 block outdoor Mall that has large patio sized sidewalks, and a narrow road for buses and taxis only. If I was to name one flaw it has that would be the allowing of buses, large puffs of diesel smoke comin atcha while your eating outside really blows. I think most people would prefer a slow moving trolley run by electricity instead. While that would be great, I think anything would be better than buses, and alternative options do exist so I don't understand why this continues. With the exeption of that this is an incredible outdoor space and is a pedestrian paradise. You can walk or all the way from Loring Park using the greenway that connects it to Nicollet Mall through Downtown and almost to the Riverfront. If you included the multi block greenway that connects Gateway Park (ING Plaza) to the charming pedestrian friendly riverfront connection; 2nd Street it is even longer yet. Nicollet Mall is big so of course each block is different. The most dining places I think are between 8th and 10th Street, although there are quite a few that are not directly on the mall at both 6th and 7th Street. Many shops can be found from 5th Street which is where the Light Rail station is, up to around 9th Street. At 10th Street is Peavey Plaza which is alot like an amphitheater and holds many outdoor events, many of which are free. During the Summer there is also a Farmers Market on the mall in the daytime, mostly between 6th Street and 9th Street. I think the funnest way to experience Nicollet Mall is to take the light rail and walk the 5 blocks to Peavey Plaza. If your wanting to shop or dine this walk will also show you many good options. make sure to look down the intersecting streets as there are some really good places that are not directly on the mall. If your into exploring, and taking a nice scenic walk, I'd recommend walking down the greenways I mentioned earlier in this review. It's about a 15 minute walk to the center of Downtown, 7th and Nicollet from the beggining of the greenway at Loring Park and about 25 Minutes from 7th and Nicollet to the Stone Arch Bridge/ historic riverfront using the greenway that connects to 2nd Street.

Really people. I would think that Mary Tyler Moore would be worthy of her own Yelp Page. But I find her here sharing space with a mall. And I think that is very sad. I grow up watching Mary. And loved her dearly. Now I realized that I have grownup to be a bit like her. No, I don't have the cool studio apartment with fun neighbors. But, although my job is not as glamorous as hers, much like her I work for a demanding boss who rarely gives any thank you for a job well done. And that was Mary's relationship with her boss, Lou Grant. So, of course I had to scour the streets of Minneapolis to find her. And there she was in bronze, in her warm wool coat, knee high leather boots doing the famous hat toss. She can turn the world on with her smile. She just might make it after all.

Fab spine of downtown Mpls. Where would we be without it? I concur, ditch the dirty buses and replace them with an electric trolley that runs from Washington Ave to Loring Park. Maybe the trolley could even run across the Hennepin bridge to Saint Anthony Main. Especially bustling in the spring and summer, the Mall is a crucial, landmark strip.

However; I also love coming randomly throughout the year to get updated clothing items. There's a ton of parking, but if you come on a busy weekend, you may not notice and still have to park far away. Bummed to see some recent retailers, leaving, they've been replaced with stores that my opinion were is great. Overall, a decent shopping trip, it's also in a great location. The cool thing about this is that you can catch the train right into the place just about. I had a 9:30 flight that was arriving in to Minneapolis and of course I couldn't check into my hotel. I bought an all day train pass and made my way. The coolest thing is that there are lockers of various sizes so you can store your luggage (for a nominal fee) and wander around this massive mall, got to about 1/3rd of it. I was taken back to the the 90's with the old school music playing and some of the stores that I thought didn't exist anymore. There were at least two of the same store but just on different levels or sides of the part of the mall I was in. The amusement park in the mall with the rollercoaster and kiddie rides and roaming characters was awesome. I went back the aquarium, which I would have gone into but it was filled with kids, and honestly it was too early :) Had a great meal at the crepe restaurant. If I was a senior retired, its a great nifty 50s walking spot or just getting out people watch. I would definitely try to go back to see the other parts and to stay the hell out of the cold weather this California gal is not used too.

I do wish they would decorate more especially for the holidays. They have the Santa pop up in the middle of the mall which is cute but that's its own experience. Also a somewhat better food court would be cool, but there are a ton of options for food outside of the mall/in the area. There's a central counter where you bring the items you wish to purchase to pay for them. For the event that day, a donation to STEP earned you a ticket for a free slice of Muddy Paws Cheesecake. They had on offer about a dozen different flavors that evening, "New York" being one, and it's my absolute favorite, both in texture and flavor. My companion chose a slice of the Salted Caramel, which is equally delicious, but in a different way. For environmental reasons, I was so pleased to see the slices being served in paper board boxes, instead of the previous clear hard-plastic clam shells. There's a large section displaying the clothing pieces designed by St. Paulite, Laura Hlavac. Also available are jewelry made by various artisans, artisan pieces made from things such as snow skis, hockey sticks, hockey pucks, metal piping, golf balls, leather scraps and antique flour sacks, quirky greeting cards, handmade holiday ornaments, soaps, candles, lotions & potions, unique clothing pieces, and hats. In addition, you'll find a large selection of locally-designed puzzles. So many different things to see! And if you find yourself becoming a bit "hangry", buy yourself a slice of Muddy Paws Cheesecake and a bottle of water (or a cup of coffee if they're offering it) and set yourself down for a little while on one of the kids' chairs and relax, and enjoy your slice of delight. Or buy a slice (or an entire cheesecake) on your way out to enjoy later on at home!
