tofu,Chinese greens & black mushrooms W/ steamed rice Lunch special to go
Donna N.

Very unwelcoming vibe when you enter, blocked off from dining room... maybe they should have a sign saying take out only & do not enter into the dining room?? Anyway I wanted to use my rodeo rewards there, but he was hesitant, not sure if he remembered how & grumbling that it's a lot of work & time to enter the # manually, but finally completed the transaction. I had ordered the tofu/veg/mushroom lunch special, soup not included w/ to go & choices were fried or steamed rice plus it cones w/ an eggroll - unfortunately that contained meat & the fried rice contained egg... The stir fried dish was very tasty & a generous amount for lunch !! Maybe he was just having a bad day but he just seemed annoyed & impatient... I was trying not to be the cause !!! & He definitely prefers all customers to stay away, by the doorway, & not enter the former dining room... there is no sign saying take out only & do not enter dining room but there should be‼

Szechuan Chicken with Chow Mein Lunch Special
Erick L.

My first 4 star review needed an upgrade. This last visit, the Chow Mein was excellent, the Szechuan Chicken was great as usual and the portion consistent. Another plus is that they do not charge extra for Fried Rice or Chow Mein with their Lunch Special as other restaurants typically do.

I've been going to Happy Wok since the 80s and it's been the same lady/owner the whole time (Hohi?) and her son Rene the last 15-20 years. Always excellent food. Unfortunately it's only take out since Covid days but highly recommended to all. Also they are closed Sundays and Monday and close early (7pm).

2nd visit, the chicken chow mein was a bit greasy, I asked for extra onion that I did not get, disappointed they don't use bean sprouts. The shrimp fried rice was good but they don't use peas or carrots..The first time I went the fried rice was very good..They give you a lot of food.

Salt & Pepper Chicken Wing lunch special, with chow mein.

Happy Wok never disappoints! I ordered the Salt & Pepper Wings lunch special and it was absolutely delicious--crispy, flavorful, and super fresh. The food was ready when I got there and served hot. Great spot for a quick, tasty lunch!

Happy Family. Yum....packed with ingredients.

Finally good Chinese close to me. Willow was bad so I had to go all the way to Richmond for good stuff. Glad I found this little gem.

Drums of heaven is truly good, little on the messy side because of the sauce, just grab a bunch of napkins and a wet wipe on the way out!

Is Happy Wok open for takeout during this covid19 shelter in place, anyone know?

Yes. I placed and ordered over the phone last night and picked up.

I think the "3-star" Yelp average is correct for this place…read more On a Saturday evening, I drove up to Pinole just to try the Hung Tao Yee Won Ton Soup at China House. It was near 5pm, and the dining room was empty. They said most of the orders were for takeout and delivery. So I was seated right away, and they offered me hot tea. So I ordered the Hung Tao Yee Won Ton Soup, and also "Salt 'n Pepper Prawns" as listed under House Specialties on their menu. For $15.95, it's a huge bowl of soup. It could be enough for 2-3 people. Hung Tao Yee Won Ton Soup is fried won ton in thicken egg drop soup. I added pepper and a splash of soy sauce, and it was perfect. Grade (4/5). However, the Salt 'n Pepper Prawns were not perfect. They were served deep fried, with jalapeño pepper slices. I asked for "in-shell." So they were deep fried with the shell still on. That usually means they'll have more flavor. These prawns were mushy and had a slightly fishy aftertaste. This suggests that they were frozen and not fresh. China House didn't season them enough to mask the off-taste. Other restaurants add a coarse salt and maybe a dipping sauce. The batter coating tasted fine, but the prawn itself wasn't good. Grade (2/5). Service was prompt and attentive. Restroom- 1 Women's restroom, and 1 All Gender. China House has a big screen TV, and they were showing a basketball game ( NY vs Houston). Free off-street parking lot

I was there at 7pm on a Tuesday night. The entire shopping plaza was dark and unwelcoming. If it wasn't for the bright lights of the restaurant, I would of turned around and left. I came to China Delights to try their Hung Tao Wor Yee Won Ton Soup. It's a soup you seldom see in Chinese restaurants anymore. China Delights is a large spacious restaurant. Lots of round tables for groups. It could probably handle a Chinese banquet. So I ordered the won ton soup and an order of fried chicken wings. My big bowl of soup arrives, and it has chunks of imitation crab in it. Look, I understand everyone has their own recipe, but I don't want pieces of processed seafood in my won ton soup. Also, this isn't wor won ton soup, because there's nothing else added to it. It was just fried won tons, egg drop soup, and the "fake crab" meat. It doesn't alter the flavor of the soup. It was actually good soup, but I didn't like the fake crab meat. Grade (3/5). The fried chicken wings were super crispy and delicious! (5/5). Service was okay. The older lady who served me came over and chatted about the restaurant. Seems they also own Peking Delights in San Ramon. She told me her customers like won ton soup with imitation crab meat in it. So be aware, you might get something in your soup that's not on the menu. Lots of free parking.

Hidden gem in El Sobrante that serves up some of the best Laotian and Thai food in the Bay Area…read more Every time we visit, must-orders are the Nam Khao (crispy rice ball salad with fermented pork sausage and fresh herbs) and Ka Soy (Laotian noodle soup). If you see Nam Khao on the menu of a Laotian/Thai restaurant, that means they know what they are doing just because it's so labor-intensive to make a salad(!) and the fermented pork has to be damn-near perfect for this salad to really shine and round out the fresh herbs and seasonings which includes lime juice, vinegar, and fish sauce. Ka Soy (the noodle soup) is a comfort food enjoyed in Southeast Asia. It's not the Thai-style where it's a curry broth and the noodles are fried, so let's not get it mixed up. Instead, it's bone broth that been simmered for hours and it's somewhat a lighter broth. The noodles are wide rice noodles in a big bowl of hot broth served with a mixture of ground pork cooked down with tomatoes along with fresh bean sprouts, scallions, and cilantro - simply a divine noodle soup that a must-try. It's not overly complex in terms of flavor, but it's a bowl of good ol' noodle soup that is comforting and great-tasting. If you haven't tried Laotian food, give Sue's Kitchen a try. try some new flavors and you may just become a regular (if you aren't already). The owners are friendly too!
