I have been waiting to find good tavern pizza and my husband stepped up! We have lived in the area for 3 years and tried a bunch of different spots. Pizza is never really that bad but it's also hard to find great-to-you places. We wanted classic bar pie and so my husband called and waited a bit on the phone and decided he and my dad would just go there, order and have a beer while they wait. I wasn't there so I can't say much, they did say they waited for a while. And then a little while longer. The vibe was happy so no one was losing it (maybe me, thinking they were just out having a great time ) but the pizza looked good so they thought, ah worth the wait I bet. Got home, revealed the pies and we were hooked. They are exactly what we have been waiting for. We don't do many bars now a days since we have 2 little ones so it's harder to us to find. But now that we know how good the pizzas are, I just might brave it with my kids just to order pizza to go. One of the best bar pies in Milwaukee! Happy Tap is (literally) a corner bar near West Allis. There is a small parking lot in the back of the building. Walking in, you see a dimly lit, clean, friendly bar. All of the seats along the bar were taken, so we sat at a table on the side. We heard many good things about their pizza so we ordered a large cheese, Canadian bacon, mushroom, onion pizza & and order of cheesy garlic bread. The bread came out quickly and piping hot. The bread was crunchy, cheese was melty with lots of garlic goodness. The pizza was perfectly balanced with ample cheese & toppings. Sauce was subtle & not too acidic. My boyfriend has never been to Happy Tap and we went there for lunch the day after Thanksgiving. There was a little bit of a crowd around 1:30'ish when we arrived but it wasn't too bad and was able to get a seat at the bar. We ordered a large and went with the classic pepperoni and sausage. Didn't have to wait long and when the pizza was brought out to us I was giddy like a little school girl lol. I wanted to dig in that pizza right away because I was hungry, but I was patient and gave it a couple minutes to kind of cool down a bit. Got a couple slices, sprinkled some crushed red peppers and I was ready to eat! After the first couple slices I asked my boyfriend what he thought, while still eating gave me the thumbs up. He thought it was frozen pizza and told these are made in house. He said for a bar pizza like this it was good and was pleased with the taste and value. For a 16" 2-topping pizza and two tap beers came to $22 and some change and was worth every penny. Cold snowy day ordered some yummy pizza and cheesy garlic bread. I got a pepperoni mushroom and onion pizza and it was so delicious. I've ordered from here before a while back and remembered the food was good. It really hit the spot. Pizza crust was perfectly thin just like I like it, cheesy garlic bread was tasty with the perfect amount of seasoning and cheese. There are a few snacks like a soft pretzel but I'd suggest starting off with their cheesy garlic bread - it's a huge amount and really good! I had Happy Tap bookmarked for a while as a place I needed to try, but upon hearing that ownership would be changing within a week and seeing speculation that there was a chance the new ownership would not keep the same recipes, I decided to not wait any longer and get to Happy Tap as soon as possible. Based on pictures I'd seen from other users on Yelp, both the pizza and cheese bread looked like some of the tastiest I've ever seen, especially the hand pattied sausage on the pizza. Ordering both of those was a very easy decision. The cheese bread only had a light garlic taste, which I prefer and appreciated. For me, too much garlic flavor can ruin garlic and/or cheese bread, so less is better. The bread was also perfectly toasted. The pizza wasn't quite out of this world like I'd hoped it would be, but it was still very good pizza. The hand pattied sausage was excellent and the crust was nice and crispy on the ends. The only knock on it is that I didn't love the bottom of the crust with it's slight floury texture and the ends were bordering on overcooked. Hopefully the new ownership realizes they have a good thing going and maintains the food as it is. I'll be a repeat customer if so. read more

This is my neighborhood bar and pizza place. Pros: open late, kitchen open late, decent food, hella convenient. Staff is nice. Prices are good. Cons: food is decent but not something to write home about. Bar is a little shabby and needs a deep cleaning (all the counters/tables were clean but it just gives the impression of needing a deep dusting and maybe a coat of paint). Pizza is more New York style so if you're expecting Chicago style pizza you'll think they skimped on toppings. If you need to grab a bite after getting off a late shift, this is a good place to grab a beer and a pizza or a sandwich. If you're looking for an amazing pizza, there's better choices in the neighborhood but they aren't open as late. I'm here about once a quarter and it's a decent little place. read more

Ok I have driven past this place so many times for years now and getting told for years by a guy at work that I have to try the pizza so I had to stop today. It's a very neighborhood bar where everyone knows everyone and they are pretty friendly to out siders. The place was busy and pizzas were were leaving for take out which can be par cooked or full cooked. The place is a step up from a dive bar but not modern nice because it has an old school look with cool green walls for a bar. There is all the typical bar electronics to amuse you and one of those modern web music machines. There is a line of old school glass and chrome candy jars for the sweet tooth. Plenty of Tvs at all sight lines playing what the customers ask for. Today was Mexican food that the customers brought in for the regulars like a pot luck and they pimped it by grumpy over the phone for who ever called in. The guy working the bar was grumpy and frustrated because it was busy and he had to make all the pizzas while working the bar. This is for information only and will not affect the star rating so slack will be given on this review. I asked grumpy what he had on tap and he rattled off all the domestic swill and when he got to water something dark that's what I ordered. The beer was not bad and it could have been colder but it was nice that there was better options. I ordered a small thin with pepperoni and sausage for carry out, late lunch. Grumpy asked me if I was familiar with the pizza promotion which was buy 10 small or large and the 11th is free so I signed up for it knowing it would take for ever if ever I will get one because I just don't go out specifically for pizza that often. The pizza smelled amazing on my way home and I couldn't wait to try it. First glance after opening is that it was greasy but whole milk mozzarella will do that with pepperoni and sausage that are good quality. Thin crust is my personal favorite so let's dig into it. First off they do not skimp on the toppings which was a good sign. My first bite was very good because I thought they use good quality toppings. There was big chunks of tasty sausage with no fennel seeds. The pepperoni was top notch and the cheese was plentiful. This is a good thin crust pizza that is very satisfying and I even liked the sauce. Overall this is a great neighborhood bar that takes there pizza very serious and the quality vs price was awesome, $14 flat for a craft beer and a great small pizza. My final thoughts is this is probably the best fresh bar pizza I have had and I can see why five pizza boxes left the kitchen in the 20 or so minutes that I was there. The word bar is subjective. Some people call Applebee's a bar. They would be wrong. Happy Tap is a genuine, sit-on-a-stool-and-drink-your-beer-bar. A tavern, if you will. That serves pizza. A pretty darn good pizza. We went on a weekday night and were alone with the bartender for most of our visit. That was ok with us, as it was quiet and clean and we could hear each other. We came for the pizza based on Yelp reviews; the drinks were a bonus. We ordered a 16 inch with pepperoni and sausage. It took about 15-20 minutes to cook and came out looking delicious. The pizza is thin crust and is cut into squares rather than slices. The sausage is SAUSAGE, you know what I mean? Big chunks of meat, not marble sized like on frozen pizza. It was really good. About a week later, we ordered the same pizza for pick up and it was just as good. I like to see that kind of consistency. Now, this is not blow-your-socks-off, out-of-this-world pizza, but I guarantee you it is better than the pizza served at most other bars, and by bar, I mean not a restaurant that has a bar. 79/2015 read more

Myself in a group of eight to 12 friends experienced the worst customer service I have ever experienced at happy tap last Sunday around the dinner hour . I have been a long time customer , and someone should be ashamed that those people are allowed to be working behind the bar with the extent of rudeness and lack of professionalism for customers of what used to be a fantastic bar . And on my way out I was told by most of the customers that had been there for a bit longer than we were that they also had a very negative experience while they were there . Good pizza. Very thin crust, and good flavor. a bit salty, but I'm o.k. with that. It's not the best I've had, but it's better than a lot of places, and priced very reasonably. And it's made in a corner bar in Westallica. We've dined in for one pizza and picked one up for carry out. The bar is very clean and bright. The staff was friendly and gave great service. I used to love going here but until this past Sunday on April 23rd! We went to celebrate our friend's anniversary and get pizza! We were IMMEDIATELY "greeted" if that's what ya wanna call it, by a very rude person. Never said hello and just literally threw down coasters at us. We ordered beers and my friend saw a friend of his on the other side of the bar and went to say Hi! This bartender got upset that he wasn't sitting where he ordered from so she didn't get him a beer, which started this sad "Sunday funday". There was nothing happy about this small crowded bar that one had a wait forever to get their pizza. They had like no cooks in the place in one bartender and the service as a result was very slow. The 1 overwork bartender was abuzz friendly as a fly in the bar and the pizza came out burnt as the overly stressed out pizza maker likely had problems in this busy bar. The patrons were very unfriendly in this bar and the odd variety of television sizes also makes this place seemed dull. Have tried many, many, many pizza restaurants and have yet to find a place that can beat their pizza. Oh, did I mention that they have the BEST PIZZA IN MILWAUKEE? Ya, I think I have. It is a bar. Let's not confuse this with a full fledged restaurant. There is a large bar, several small 2 chair tables and several more tables that hold 4 to 10 people. Not a huge space, but always friendly, comfortable and relaxed. The clientele is always friendly and the staff superb. Drink specials, good beer selection, and several really good, local craft beer selections including a new favorite of mine, 3 Sheep, make this an excellent choice to hang out, talk with new and old friends and have THE BEST PIZZA IN MILWAUKEE. Only knock I can give the place is the seats. All seats are your standard ole barstools. Ok for a while, but if you are there for a while they get fairly uncomfortable. Was warmly welcomed by the bar tender and even other patrons, (who did appear to be regulars). Tap system was down so they only had bottles, which was no problem at all. I had the 3 sheep cirque wit (delicious) and my husband had the Sam Adams. We had the cheese bread, which came with a side of marinara sauce for dipping and large pizza.
