I have eaten take out from here for years and have never been dissapointed with the quality of their food. Good portions and reasonable prices.

Plain Lo Mein noodles with a side of plastic.
Marlaina W.

This was my first time ordering from this restaurant. My boyfriend swore by it, so I had to give it a shot. The food was ready in ten minutes, so super quick. I ordered the House Rice and he ordered the plain Lo Mein. We get home and start to eat. Food was DELICIOUS...until my boyfriend finds a piece of plastic in his noodles. It honestly looked like a corner of a bag that had been cut off and accidentally landed in the food. It was a bit...displeasing, not gonna lie. But the food was absolutely delicious.

Nasty fatty breaded chicken. Mostly fat!
Susan A.

Went here because Sakura was closed. Big mistake!!! The sesame chicken is nasty! Should have guessed from the picture. It tastes as bad as the picture looked. Wasted $9 on fatty breaded chicken parts & flavorless rice. 2 pieces of broccoli. Oh I might add it was in a bowl that's a little tiny bit larger than my hand. I will not be making that mistake again I would not even give this one star. Should have known when I came in the door they were yelling at each other in Chinese and hollering and carrying on I should have walked out then but we were hungry. Next time I will wait on Sakura to reopen!

It was alright, nothing to write home about! Had sweet and sour chicken, did not care for the sauce.

No door, just a take out window, didn't try the food. They were closing at 6. It's in a strip shopping center.

We love the hot and sour soup...the crab rangoons are THE BEST in the area. If you get the dumplings/potstickers...try them fried. So good.

About what you'd expect for Chinese take out. Friendly service and very fast. The food was good and very hot by the time I got home.

By far one of the best take outs in the area. The place always looks clean, Food is always hot and fresh, and the portions are large.

I have been eating at Shanghai since it opened 30 years ago. No matter how much time passes…read morebetween my visits the owners treat me as if I am their favorite customer in the restaurant. Over the past several years I have only ordered takeout and I am never disappointed. The food is always hot and fresh and prepared exactly as I ask. There is one dish I order with a modification and they haven't gotten it wrong in 30 years. The primary reason I keep returning is taste. I often find that Chinese restaurant food has an unusual taste that I do not like. The food at Shanghai does not have this taste. Taste, freshness, order accuracy, family atmosphere and friendliness has kept me coming back for 30 years.

While in town for the 2026 Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion we stopped in for a bite to eat and…read morelisten to some live festival music during a late afternoon thunderstorm. They had a large outdoor seating area set up just for the festival, but normally it isn't there. We went and sat down and on every table there was a QR code where you could order right from the table kind of similar to some of the restaurants I've been to in Chinatown in Philadelphia. We had started to order when a waitress came to try and take our order. I believe she was just family helping out so some of our message got lost in translation. She brought my drink and then some 10 minutes later brought besties's tea after we tracked her down. They had typical Chinese restaurant fair on the menu. The restaurant wasn't super busy when we got there. There weren't a lot of people seated outside. It appeared. They had only three people running food and taking orders. A fair amount of gas did show up after us and probably got their food. We had to track somebody down as there was some delay in them actually pulling our ticket to go make our food after we had ordered via the QR code of the table. This was a bit disappointing. I can only chalk it up to having inexperienced help during the festival. When ordering on the app, you can make modifications to just about any dish. Bestie did order something called ants on a log - it was a vermicelli rice noodle dish. Came out completely wrong without any of the extra she ordered. I ordered a simple chicken and broccoli. Chicken had an odd texture and Bestie's dish had chicken too and she thought it was a little odd as well. She did get a new order made when we saw her order was wrong. We brought it to one of the waiters's attention and they made her a fresh order and that came out very quickly. Which we did appreciate. We were served on paper plates, which I can only assume was for the festival. There was live music playing in the front room of the restaurant which could be heard throughout. It wasn't super loud so we could have a conversation. The food tasted OK. It wasn't anything to rave about. Prices were very reasonable.

The staff was super friendly and thankful, the man at the register even gave me extra fortune cookies for free! Beware, the prices have changed from the past menu photos, however, I've included up to date pics of the menu. I got a small chicken lo mein and a krab ton wonton appetizer. For $5.50, I got 8 of the krab wontons and the $5.95 chicken lo mein filled my entire bowl (and stomach). Everything was delicious, I loved the lo mein and so did my boyfriend, he also loved his large chicken curry. The chicken curry came with a ton of chicken and my boyfriend, who is into weightlifting and on a bulk, couldn't finish the meal and now has a great protein rich meal for tomorrow! The krab wontons we're not the best I've ever had but they were still very very tasty and I would still recommend them. Overall, great establishment and I'm looking forward to trying their other meals!

The highlights for us were the fried dumplings, crab rangoon and the orange chicken. The egg rolls were pretty good too. The fried dumplings were not like others I've had. I think they make them there. They tasted homemade. Would definitely order those again. Can we talk about the orange chicken?! Wow. It's not like every other orange chicken recipe. It's more of an orange peel chicken and it is freakin' delicious. If you love oranges...try this!! Orange chicken normally has orange zest in the recipe...the recipe here has little pieces of dehydrated orange peel in the sauce and it makes this dish special. It tastes super fresh. The sauce is on point. We'll try it again for sure. The drinks are bottled Coca Cola products. No ice or cups. Wasn't crazy about that...but that's just a personal preference thing. The chicken fried rice was a little plain...but it was still good. I paid the .35 extra and got the hot chili oil and added it to the rice. It wasn't too spicy and it added a little "oomph" to the rice. We left with lots of food leftover and we were super full.

Ordered take out over the phone for a birthday lunch, mind you I checked their website prior-to…read moreorder correctly on the phone as it was our first time here and just hoping to find a new chinese restaraunt near us. We originally ordered 3 spring rolls, a half order of crab rangoons(4), a full order of fried dumplings (8), and a chicken lo mein combination plate with fried rice all listed back to me on the phone all sounding correct. Our first problem was when my boyfriend arrived to pick it up it was $60, and was somehow completely ordered incorrect, in which he notified the woman at the register that there was a confusion, where she then rudley kept repeating the order she was charging us for. Which was 10 spring rolls, 4 orders of 8 each dumplings, the half order of crab rangoons, and the combination plate with the lo mein and fried rice. Coming out to $60!! My boyfriend stood firm that our order was incorrect, as we didnt need that much food as it would be 32 dumplings between 2 people for lunch and we were not really intending to spend $60 just on chinese takeout for lunch. We didnt even order an entree beyond the 1 order of a lo mein combination plate. But in return the lady at the register was very irritated, which I understand they prepared more than expected, but the whole situation was just really off and not a great experience especially for something so simple as a take out order that was repeated on the phone. But after she took back the other orders of dumplings, and we kept the spring rolls and still ended up paying around $38. I have not a clue what went wrong when ordering. We also thought the food was not the greatest. The dumplings were good as we love dumplings, but very similar to store bought and super cold. The fried rice was very bland. The lo mein had flavor but the chicken was strange and completely different than in the fried rice. The spring rolls were okay. The crab rangoons were good very similar to most chinese takeouts. But we will not be back, and hope others have a better experience than we did!

The tofu dish and cabbage I ordered had distinctive flavors, and it tasted like they used things like Sichuan peppercorn and cooking wine that I wasn't sure you'd see in Johnson City Tennessee. Both dishes were excellent on portion size and flavor. On the other hand, both oddly came with what seemed like egg fried rice; there was no option in the online ordering to ask for (or not ask for this). I felt a bit unwell after eating it, and when I ditched the rice and focused on the main dishes for leftovers, I felt better. I'm not 100% egg-free, but I avoid eggs and maybe they just don't do well for me, or maybe there was something else in there. Regardless, a lot of people have special dietary needs or allergies, and it's just odd to me that they wouldn't give you plain white rice like basically every other place, or at least ask. Online ordering did not let you actually pay online but they do take Amex in person. There was certainly some quality there, so I would consider coming to try them again.
