1st, I've been going to China Wok for many years. Through good & bad mgmt. Staff there now are rude & quality of food has definitely taken a hard hit. The buffet food was dried up & most had no sauce at all. Egg rolls & wontons were old & grease was dripping off of the egg rolls. We went to check out & the cashier with greasy hair & chewing food said I owed for 4 buffets but only 3 in my party. I asked & she said I was seen putting food in my purse on cameras. I said no you didn't see that. She said empty purse! I did & what she saw was me putting kleenex in my purse. No apology & she said I know what I saw. Worst management ever! I decided to give this a try, since sometimes places which don't look like much can surprise you. This one did not. It's pretty much your standard Americanized Chinese buffet joint. I got a variety of items...spring rolls and egg rolls were bland. Shrimp with vegetables was not bad. Noodles were ok. The Genetal Tso's (I think?) that was advertised as spicy was actually not spicy at all. The hot and sour soup was not great either. But I did like the macaroon - the macaroon was delicious :) Five stars out of ten, but because the staff were friendly, I will make it three out of five and round up. Paid 40 bucks for a stomach ache. Got pork fried rice (tasted off like the pork was old). The chicken with broccoli (which was bland). Vegetable lo mein ( also bland). General TSO chicken ( it was ok), coconut shrimp (decent), and pork egg roll (awful). I asked my teen to get these things from the buffet but she said the buffet was bare so they said they will make it fresh. Totaled to a lil over 40 bucks. In general China Wok is an average American Chinese buffet. It's a fairly small buffet but it does have all the standards. Nothing about this place will surprise you if you've been to other Chinese buffets across the country. Quality is also about average. A few things are really good a few things are a little bland. Nothing is stellar, nothing is atrocious. Most of it is enjoyable. Service is about par for the course for these places. Which means you will be treated as a low ranking business partner. Everything will be done like it's supposed to be. There will be no warmth. But also there will be no disrespect. It's adequate service, as is the norm for a Chinese buffet. It looses two stars for cleanliness. Do not visit here if you are squeamish. No deep cleaning ever gets done. Stained floors. Some crud buildup around the buffet itself. There's a tacky oil residue on everything in the dining room. Ceiling is stained and parts are missing or cracked ( dropped ceiling ). The silverware and dishes were all immaculate though so they do clean where it counts. I recommend China Wok for those looking for a perfunctory meal, not for those in the mood for a culinary experience. read more

The prime ingredient in this restaurant's dishes is grease. I don't believe this place has ever seen ginger. I had the buffet as well as ordered from the menu to take home. I have lived in Denver, DC, and Knoxville and this is absolutely the worst Chinese I've ever had. Too much cornstarch (my takeout order slowly turned into gelatin). My husband and I used to enjoy going to this restaurant frequently, years ago. We now enjoy it in our home, because they offer delivery! The minimum order is $10 for delivery. It usually takes 45 to 50 minutes to receive, but so worth it. It arrives hot every time. Our order is always accurate and comes with all needed utensils, sauces and even fortune cookies. Have ordered takeout several times and eaten at the buffet once. Your best bet is to order pick up or delivery. The buffet doesn't have many options and isn't great. Typically when I order take out, I get mu shu pork or general tsos. My fiancé gets beef and broccoli. I've never had an issue with my food, it's pretty good and is run of the mill Americanized Chinese food. My fiancé has an onion allergy and they've never "contaminated" his order with onions which is always nice. Very cheap. Nothing special but it will take care of your Chinese food cravings. read more

I've eaten here twice, it's overall good, and everything I ate was good. It's a buffet format, and I suspect most would find a few things on the buffet they like. The service is very good, they make sure to offer you refills on the drinks. The price is reasonable, under 10 bucks for the lunch buffet. So far it's best Chinese food I've had in either Kingsport or Johnson City. I would like to rate it about 3.5 stars, because 3 stars seems a bit tough, but 4 stars seems a bit generous. read more
