The employee who took my order was rude and even yelled at me because she couldn't hear me over the loud music playing in the food truck. I ordered the poke bowl special, which was supposed to come with their famous tots, but the tots were missing from my order. I considered going back to ask for them, but honestly, I didn't because I was worried the employee would be even ruder than she was when I placed my order. I also tipped 20% because I truly believe in taking care of people who work in the service industry. We also tried the katsu musubi and the fried musubi, and all three dishes were absolutely delicious. We've visited both locations, and while the food was excellent at each, the Poʻipū location lacked the warm, welcoming spirit you'd hope to experience while visiting Kauaʻi. That said, much aloha to Kauaʻi. We had a wonderful trip and can't wait to come back.

We chose Hoku and it didn't disappoint. They are priced around 18 dollars for the plate and 2 dollars for the drink. The size of fish was big and I thought you can share it. They have tables with benches. Maybe they need to put some umbrellas so more people will come and eat. It was a 90 degree weather and the trees didn't really provide some shade due to Sun's position. But otherwise I'm a satisfied customer.

The lady working the register was simultaneously preparing food. As we were waiting for our order we saw her handle cash and other customers' pens/credit cards without washing her hands or put on new gloves before returning to food prep. During normal times this is pretty gross, but during COVID times it feels especially unsafe. The truck was open in the back and we saw flies buzzing around and land on the prep surfaces and kitchen utensils, and to top it off a few chickens also managed to hop INTO the truck itself to peck at crumbs on the floor of the truck. Kind of gross. We understand that running a business is hard work and it's a crushing time with tourism, but cutting corners around sanitation is unacceptable and should be called out.

I went with the Garlic Butter Shrimp Plate. The shrimp doesn't come shelled which is fine as it just reminds me of when my dad and grandmother would make shrimp The garlic butter was so good and lived that it mixed into the rice. The greens were good as well. Only downfall when peeling the shrimp is that you are with happy cause it was worth it or you are disappointed. I'll tell you, it is well worth it cause you are rewarded with a buttery, tender piece of large shrimp. The food came a little slower than expected but you know it was made fresh!
