Shepherd and Grey (S&G) provides exceptional care of your pet…read more We had a sudden need to kennel our dog for a few days. Our dog was very accustom to me being home with her every day. It has also been a few years since we have been to the dog park and we have not needed daycare or boarding since we moved to this area. My first concern was to make sure our girl had a positive experience. She is a big goof and this was going to be a big change in her routine. S&G 's owner, John, is wonderful to work with and provides the very best care in a calm, safe home-like environment. We were able to schedule a meet and greet as well as a half-day stay for a test run before we went out of town. So many great reasons to choose S&G: 1) all pet guests are current on vaccines 2) small number of dogs to ensure safe high-quality care 3) owner understands canine personalities 4) committed to providing an excellent experience for both the owner and their pet guests 5) daily photos and updates of your pet's stay. I have worked in pet care and welfare, there are several options for traditional boarding and kennel facilities. S&G is different, it truly is a guest house for your pet. We are so pleased with S&G we now schedule daycare visits just to let our girl socialize and get some hikes in, even when we are working from home. If you want more than a kennel experience for your pet, or more than a 10 minute dog walk while you are working, I highly recommend Shepperd & Grey Daycare & Guesthouse. Your pet's happiness is so worth it.

We have not found anyone as caring, loving and responsible as John at S&G! We've even boarded Barbara (who has never been boarded before), and she loved it. John also sends photos from the day and it's clear how much the dogs love playing and spending time with each other at S&G. Most of all, they get such an array of activity and space that allows your dog to be well socialized.

Not gonna lie I was kind of scared to board my dogs here because of some of the reviews but I'm…read moreglad I did! It seems many local doggie daycares do group play and sleep. Unfortunately my dogs can't do that. One is scared of other dogs and one can be aggressive. So I liked that Cassio did individual boarding but also let dogs in a family board together. We did the test run overnight with them and all seemed well. So we used them when we had to go out of town for two weeks. I got my babies back in perfect condition! I even added on the grooming service and they looked good! I would definitely use them again when traveling away from home without my dogs. One star off because I wish they would send pics of the dogs throughout the stay. My previous daycare in Florida did and it helps a lot with the anxiety. I did call and ask but got like 2 pics and one vid over the course of the two weeks. 5 stars if they provide pics daily/every other day.

I was very skeptical because of the reviews. However, I was visiting the area for the weekend and…read moremy dog was freaking out when left alone in the hotel, so I didn't have much of a choice. Firstly, I called probably 20 other places in the area and Cassio was the only place that answered their phone on a Saturday morning, which I greatly appreciated. They didn't need to do a meet and greet, which every other place that I spoke to seemed to require in advance. Upon arrival, I shared that my dog is scared of other dogs and can be aggressive when there's toys or food around because he's possessive. They let me know that they don't do group play or keep multiple dogs in a space together which I was happy to hear. They said that during the operating hours, minus a break from 12-3, someone would always be with my dog. We only boarded him at Cassio for about five hours on a Saturday and Sunday, so I'm not sure what the overnight protocol is. There seemed to be a fair amount of staff members each day and the services were fairly priced. It cost about 41$ each day. The only thing I was hesitant about was that they required his collar to be removed, which has an Apple air tag on it, so that made me nervous because I was worried he'd somehow escape the facility. They remove all collars and leashes so the dogs don't get caught on the cages and get hurt, so it makes sense. The facilities seem very large, there were multiple outside areas that had large fences around them, and an open air cage area that had an overhead covering. We weren't offered a tour of the facility, but we also didn't ask. This was our first time doing a doggy day care situation, so we weren't sure of the protocol but I wish I would've asked to see where my dog would be spending a few hours. Overall, if I had to do it again, I would use Cassio for doggy daycare.

Empire State K9 Services - live shot of the once the most hyperactive dog

Empire State K9 Services

(20 reviews)

5 stars -- Empire State K-9 changed my dog -- and honestly, changed me, too…read more I don't write reviews like this often. But this deserves it. My dog Coco is family. She's also high-energy, distractible, reactive, social to a fault -- the mayor of every block. Walking her was a full-time job. I'd resigned myself to always having a leash-yanking, sidewalk-sprinting, bird-chasing kind of pup. Then I found Empire State K-9. After almost two weeks of immersive training, Coco came home a different dog -- not in spirit, but in structure. She still has her spark, but now there's focus behind it. She heels. She respects boundaries. She listens. She can walk by my side, calmly, even in high-distraction environments. A pigeon flew by today -- she started to glance, and with the smallest tug, she turned back to me and kept walking. That kind of transformation doesn't happen by accident. It's built through consistency, skill, empathy, and serious time on the ground. And that's exactly what Empire State K-9 delivers. From the moment I dropped her off, I felt like I was handing her over to someone who truly cared -- not just about dogs, but about people, too. The trainer spent hours with me upfront: walking me through the theory, the tools, the transitions, and the work I'd need to do when she came back. I got worksheets. Real-time walkthroughs. Space to ask questions. Time to process. He even drove me to and from the train. Brought me lunch. Gave me trash bags when I forgot them. The care was constant, not performative. Coco came home with a new collar, a new leash, and a completely new relationship with the world. She now lies down at my feet when we enter restaurants -- something I never could have imagined before. I can finally take my hand off the leash and trust that she won't bolt. Even now, I get unlimited follow-ups for three months -- real access: calls, texts, whatever I need. No nickel-and-diming, no weird fine print. If I had to offer one piece of constructive feedback, it's that sometimes the sessions ran a little long -- the wrap up one especially. I was promised two hours and hit closer to three. I was totally fried by the end. But to his credit, he noticed immediately, read the room, and got me to the train with kindness and care. So even the one "flaw" was handled with grace. Was this worth the cost? Yes. Would I recommend it to anyone who feels overwhelmed, frustrated, or unsure where to start? Absolutely. Will I be continuing to work with Empire State K-9 moving forward? 100%. Three months of training post I dont know of another bootcamp that offers that. This wasn't just training. It was transformation -- for both of us.

What makes him stand apart is he trains the family as much as he trains the dog so you get a complete understanding of your dog's behavior and the how, why, and when to apply what you learn in the course. We, as a family, learned just as much or even more than our dogs learned! He includes the entire family in the classes which was awesome because it kept my husband and I on the same page so we didn't confuse our dogs and he taught my kids proper dog safety and proper engagement which is crucial! We found Rick about 8 years ago when we got our first dog, Scout, a shepherd/Doberman mix, who was extremely anxious, fearful and aggressive towards anyone outside our family and other animals. It was impossible, stressful, and downright embarrassing to take him anywhere due to his insistent barking, pulling, and lunging... so we sought out help. We had a hard time finding a trainer who was willing to even take on the training of Scout and actually had multiple trainers tell us just to put him down!!! As soon as we met Rick, he was not only willing to work with Scout, but was enthusiastic that he could treat Scout's individual issues and get us the results we wanted which was such a relief!! Scout entered Rick's program and he had a COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION. He gained so much confidence and control through the program and through Rick training us as the handlers, Scout was comfortable in whatever situation he was in because he could trust us as his alphas and that he was safe under our command because of the skills Rick taught us. Flash forward to 2020, my father bought a Rottweiler puppy that ended up being way to much for him to handle so he asked us to take her and my first phone call was to Rick... She was OUT OF CONTROL. We adopted Phoenix, and started her training right away. She had entirely different issues than Scout, mostly no control, no house manners, and had no social skills. Rick worked with her and almost instantly she was a different dog. She was still her happy-go-lucky self, but had manners and control. Through her growth, Rick worked with her and us to mold her into the ideal family dog! Scout & Phoenix are able to enjoy life much more as we are able to handle all settings and bring them along with us anywhere with confidence. He just has a complete understanding and nature with dogs and it's astonishing to watch him work. We are so grateful for what Rick has brought to our family and will always go to him for our dogs in the future!

I never write reviews but felt compelled to do so because of my wonderful experience (brace…read moreyourself for a long, detailed review)! I recently moved to northern Westchester which meant leaving our beloved doggy daycare in Brooklyn. Our rescue is a sweet, 25lb terrier mix. She is fearful of new people but warms up quickly. We first tried Dogtopia in Mount Kisco but within the first few minutes of them meeting our pup they took her behind a closed door and tried to take her harness off/on, touch her everywhere, and also put her in a crate to see what she would tolerate. Our dog was terrified and in distress. We quickly agreed this was not the place for fearful dogs that need a few extra minutes and patience to warm up. I continued my search and found Camp Bow Wow in Stamford - the online reviews were great and the facility looked really nice from what I saw on their website. I also called ahead and spoke to the Manager Justin to let him know we were looking for a nurturing environment that was used to handling all different types of dogs. When we arrived at Camp Bow Wow for the orientation we were met with Michelle who manages the front desk. Our pup was shaking and very scared upon arrival. Michelle knew what to do instantly by putting her hand out for our pup to sniff and not reaching over her head to pet her until our pup was comfortable. Within minutes Michelle was able to brush our dog with her favorite comb and pet her on her head by just taking that simple, personalized approach to build that initial trust with our dog. I was then introduced to the owner John, who you can tell from the moment you meet him that he puts his heart into the place. The tour of the facility was wonderful and he meticulously took me through their welcome folder, as well as a breakdown of how the dogs are cared for during their time at Camp Bow Wow... After leaving our dog there for the day - I saw on the live video through the app, the staff members being extremely patient and kind with our dog. I could not believe my eyes when I saw our dog jump up to a staff member excitedly wanting to be pet on her first day there! When we picked our dog up, instead of just any staff member putting her leash on her (which would have been ok!), they specifically asked the staff member our dog became really comfortable with to bring her to me. I thought this was such a nice extra touch to continue making our dog's first day as comfortable as possible to ensure she felt safe in this new place! This same staff member made a point to say hello to me when I dropped my dog off at Camp for her second day. To round out this extremely long review, I continued to watch our dog on the app during her second day and saw her jumping up on another staff member to be pet. I saw the staff members showing our dog and some other pups extra love and really interacting with them. Thank you Camp Bow Wow for providing a safe, clean, and fun environment for our girl!

My dogs also had an anal gland problem. My vet didn't see an issue. Because smelly dog and anal gland problems aren't serious health issues. But it was an annoyance in my life. Someone told me about Thomaston feed and how I might want to switch foods. So I went over to Cheshire one day and Nicci switched me to different brand of food called natures variety. She said because it's a richer food, I don't have to feed as much. My dog was overweight at the time so she told me to feed him a little less. Which is perfect because I have dachshunds and it is dangerous for them to be over weight because they are prone to back problems. Within a week of them being in the new food, they stopped smelling. I couldn't believe it. When we ran out of the Natures Variety, my father started feeding them pedigree without my knowledge and I noticed them smelling again!! And sure enough I found out they had been eating something different. There is no denying that there are good and bad foods out there for your dog. And Nicci is very passionate and will take the time to explain the difference between the different foods. And it turned out she was right! My dogs are older now. My partner and I each spoke to Marian for a long time and were comfortable that he would be in great hands. We have now boarded him here multiple times and are so glad we did! Marian and her team of handlers are incredibly accommodating to Cassius's special needs and he always comes back happy and healthy (and fresh & clean from his bath!). He gets all his medications and is clearly eating his meals while there - which really shows that he feels right at home. They really are so unique and we are very thankful. I'm sure the hiking and other activities are a blast for the younger dogs, too! We really wouldn't send our boy anywhere else - thank you so much!!

I chose Town and Country for boarding my Great Pyrenees Shepherd based on a strong recommendation…read morefrom Eva's Dog Camp, where my dog has thrived and received excellent reviews for being "cuddly and well-behaved." During our phone intake conversation, Marian assured me that my priorities would be met: 1) all dogs would be crated during meals to prevent potential aggression, and 2) daily exercise would be provided in nearby national parklands and the lake. Unfortunately, these assurances were not practiced. My dog returned wrung out with anxiety and unable to rest after spending five days in a back enclosure with 30-35 other dogs and not once having been walked. I was told that my dog did not respond properly to the counselors' name calls, which is why he was kept in the backyard. Why not take the dog on a walk on his leash? Town and Country promotes itself as an adventure camp, distinguishing itself from other boarding facilities that keep dogs in yards all day, and charges a premium for this service. Marian had assured me that new dogs would be attached to a 30-foot lead and attended by two counselors when taken out of the yard. Unfortunately, they did not follow through on this "camp" experience.*Marian later contradicted her initial assurance by saying that dogs needed to respond to a stranger's call before being taken for a walk in the park Additionally, upon pick-up, a counselor explained that my dog and another dog had snapped at each other during mealtime because they were not crated. This was contrary to the safety measures I had requested. Bottom line, the promises made regarding safety and exercise were not fulfilled. It appears that only a select few dogs evaluated by them to be "responsive" receive walks. I'm grateful to one of the counselors there who no doubt, acted as an ally to my dog and likely ensured his safety amidst a potentially dangerous environment.
