This place really creeps up on you and knocks you for six. The unassuming, modest interior belies a culinary experience out of the ordinary.
We all ordered the large set menu to get the full Monty. Unlike a lot of places there was no filler dish at the end, if you know what I mean. (Nodee serve loads of small dishes and you're always wanting more until the end when a mountain of Peking duck arrives) where these guys give you slightly more each time, just enough to keep you wanting more but not leaving you ravenous. This has also to do with the pacing, with Japanese tempo: four ultra tasty snacks in quick succession (chili cheese balls blew me away even though the oyster snacky things that came first would have been at home in a 3* restaurant) followed by four more dishes at a leisurely pace. These included the craziest langoustine ever (gratinert and the head and claws blowtorched in a wooden wine box with a glass lid!)
Some very interesting Japanese beers to choose from and a comprehensive wine list that we didn't look at. Very friendly attentive service too.
