When I didn't hear back, I followed up at 4pm and was able to speak with someone. I explained my timeline and noted that their website states orders can be placed up to 5 days before the event. However, I was told it was already too late because they only take cake orders in the morning for the following week. When I mentioned that I had called earlier that morning and hadn't received a callback, the response I received felt dismissive and insincere, and no alternative solutions were offered beyond submitting an online inquiry. I did submit the inquiry as suggested but never received a follow-up. I've always enjoyed their cakes, but this experience with customer service was disappointing. I was walking down Birch Street back to my car after visiting a local business when I came upon a "Try our world famous banana pudding" sign on the sidewalk. I love anything banana so it definitely caught my eye. I decided to walk into Hapa Bakery to check it out. The shop is fairly small, is very clean, and all walls are decorated nicely. There are four two seat tables, two inside and two out front. There is a refrigerated display case that holds their banana, nutella banana, and chocolate brownie puddings, along with a few other items. Two other counters display mouthwatering cookies, brownies, and cupcakes. The staff member was very friendly, and I mentioned that the sign out front lured me in to the shop, as I'm sure it does many others. I bought a container of banana pudding to take home, and managed to resist the urge to buy some of their other delicious looking goodies. I tried it the same evening, and it was truly heavenly. It is creamy and so flavorful, and is loaded with slices of banana and wafer cookies that are so soft and just melt. It is a good sized container, I'm guessing around 16 ounces, and is reasonably priced at just under $9. I try to limit my intake of sweets, but I will definitely be back to indulge here periodically. read more

Hapa bakery is an excellent bakery. I've always been a fan of their cupcakes and filled cookies. Today, my friend and I grabbed a cupcake each. I grabbed a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting. My friend grabbed a churro cupcake. Both were very moist and flavorful. They had a nice selection and the ambience was calm and inviting. The service was great. Our cashier even offered to sign us up for their reward program, which was easy to sign up for. All you need is to provide your phone number. I do however think the cupcakes are pretty small for the price you pay, which is 4 dollars and some change. I was really excited to finally try this place, but left disappointed. I picked up a dozen cupcakes (over $50) and tried to pay with a $100 bill, but they wouldn't accept it. I had to walk all the way back out to the parking structure to grab my wallet. Honestly, a $1.25 pen to check bills would solve that issue, especially for customers spending that much. Three custom cake orders, an $800 cookie order. I received a completely wrong cake last year, and the cake this year was not fully what I ordered. If you have an issue on the weekend you'll speak to the girls up front and they'll apologize, but nothing will be done to fix your cake. You'll be told multiple times that an owner will call you and they won't. They let their supervisors solve issues for them. And their cake decorators will tell management that you gave them full creative control, when you didn't. And then your cake will be wrong. Also, they'll tell you that some of the girls there lack common sense and don't do things properly... that's not what you want to hear when you're spending hundreds of dollars on cakes and cookies. We ordered Hapa Bakery for our little guy's birthday party and it was such a delight. I ordered online and it was so easy. Here's what I got: ***A 6 inch Cinnamon roll drip cake that was a fluffy cinnamon roll cake filled with layers of cinnamon roll cream cheese frosting and finished with a white chocolate drip, mini cinnamon rolls and dulce de leche. It was gorgeous and everyone raved about the taste ***Mini cupcakes: We ordered a dozen lemon, a dozen tuxedo (chocolate cake with white icing) and a dozen carrot cake. They were cute and literally the perfect size to pop in your mouth. The mix of a cake plus mini cupcakes worked perfect for a kiddo birthday party. There is nothing like having a little guy blow out a birthday candle that is atop a single cupcake...everyone sighs because they know they aren't going to be eating a little kid's spit from their messy candle blowing antics. Here's some notes about the cake: We had a theme that involved characters from a PBS show and wild animals. While there isn't a lot of room on the Cinnamon roll cake, I was able to shove "Power discs" around the bottom of the cake and fit some toy figures from the show on top around the cinnamon rolls. Please note that they need 5 days advance notice to make this cake and while the 6 inch is billed as feeding 15-20, I got 22 slices. See below for how. A few tips for serving the cake: 1) Take it out an hour before serving. I of course forgot so it was a little harder to cut 2) Take off the Cinnamon rolls and put on a plate prior to cutting. This way you don't have witness cinnamon roll suicide as the things fall off as you cut. 3) Use a SHARP tall and long knife. FYI, I didn't use warm water to dip the knife into between cuts and I didn't feel like I had to. 4) Don't start by cutting into the center of the cake and making slices. Start your knife hovering above the full center and then move all the way to the right. Slice a clean straight line and tip that tall, long 1-2 inch straight slice onto a cutting board. Then cut in half. As you move towards the center the slices get bigger and you cut more pieces. We will definitely be back and this is my new go-to for parties. read more

I've been to the original location in Fullerton and their previous location on Imperial so I wanted to see what goodies they had today. I know they used to be more known for their cupcakes and cakes but they also have other items now like cookies and pudding.
