Lovely grapes
Chris E.

Our first visit today to the winery and it was a lovely experience. Beautiful, comfortable, casual outdoor seating in a nice garden setting. Excellent, attentive service. Nice wines and some unique blends. Affordable tasting and reasonable bottle prices. Love that "puppies and picnics" allowed, so dogs and outside food OK. We definitely recommend and we'll visit again.

My family and I were in the area and wanted to go wine tasting, and we couldn't have chosen a better spot! Its family owned and they were so friendly and welcoming. The wine was delicious and the grounds were so beautiful! We couldn't stop ogling over the garden. My puppy came and we were able to walk around the vineyard and garden there. It had a very cozy, relaxing vibe, and they answered all our questions and taught us a lot about making wine. We brought our own snacks, and it was a great social distancing friendly place to go! Thank you so much for having us and giving us such a great experience!

Loved this winery! Great service, delicious wine, and super dog friendly! They are doing a great job at keeping everyone social distanced.... can't wait to go back!

Sam came and greeted us when we got out of our car. Big ol' white dog and adorable as can be. Speaking of adorable, what a sweet spot this little winery is. Out in the boonies a little bit, and you almost could miss it if it wasn't for the big flag that says open right outside their red barn building. We followed the dog to the small door with the wooden sign that said open, walked in to a little cool room and sat at their very small wine tasting area. That's ok because the wine itself had some big flavors. We tasted about 6 of them, from their chardonnay, to the pinot gris and then a couple of different pinot noirs. All had some medals behind them as well. We ended up buying one of the older pinots. The gentleman serving could not have been nicer and very helpful in his introductions of his wines. We headed on out and this dear woman was coming out of the lovely old house next door with some sort of meal for her husband (we are assuming) that just served us our wine. We asked if she knew of any places nearby for a meal and she pointed us off to Silverton. A great day for discovering new places so off we went.

While it…read moreisn't as expansive as places like Roozengarde, it's still very impressive: vast flower fields boasting a prismatic array of colors stretching across several acres, and spread out enough to accomodate the largest of crowds. Despite our visit occurring just after the start of the blooming season, the crowds, including parking, were very manageable, with very little wait time. Same can be said of shopping and making purchases at the gift shop, ordering food from one of the dozen or so food carts on site, and even finding a table or cozy spot on the lawn to enjoy a meal, or just relax in the warm spring weather. Exploring the fields is a treat and a feast for the eyes, and one doesn't feel rushed or crowded in doing so. Photo opportunities abound here, so you'll frequently encounter young families, annoying influencers, and young couples in love taking advantage of this gorgeous, evanescent landscape, and you should too. To me, tulip season in the west is a lot like hanabi (cherry blossom season) in Japan: a fleeting season when nature, wreathed in radiant raiment, comes into her full floral glory, reminds us that although our time here on Earth is brief, and through our beauty will eventually fade, a new season is perennially on the horizon.

I'm so glad I planned ahead because I was able to enjoy a perfectly lovely afternoon, just me and the pugs. We're so lukcy to have Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm so close to Portland. Just 55 minutes from my house, I was able to take off work a little early for a 3:30 arrival time at the farm. Gates close at 6 PM, so this gave me several hours to stroll through the fields and buy some fresh flowers. I didn't have any time to visit vendors and craftspeople, but I can always come back to the farm if I feel the need to check out any of that. The folks running Wooden Shoe have done a great job managing traffic and parking, as everything is clearly labeled. Also, requiring visitors to purchase tickets online really speeds up entry. Visitors pull up to the gate house, get scanned, then they're on their way! I love the efficiency. The parking lot is next to the garden center, and the vendor booths are just beyond that. The shuttle service is easy to find, as are the paths to the flower fields. I love that the farm has chosen to use hazelnut shells to line the paths as it is soft underfoot, yet keeps the ground from getting overly soggy since weather isn't always predictable this time of year. Admission was $19 and I feel I got my money's worth today. I had a lovely afternoon with my dogs, got some flowers, and created some lovely memories. I highly recommend a visit to the farm! Peak season lasts from April 15th through the end of the month, but can vary from year to year. Check out the farm website for the most up-to-date information. Enjoy!

We sat outside at two adirondack chairs with a small table. My husband and I each ordered a wine tasting and one charcuterie board. The wine tasting was $20 a piece, waived with the purchase of 2 bottles. The wine bottles we tried ranged from $27 to $50 or $60 (not sure, as they did not have any printed menus for the latest tasting). We thought, from their website and yelp, that we would have both tastings waived with the purchase of 2 bottles. However, she only waived one tasting when we purchased two wines. Overall, a pleasant experience. We enjoyed the selection of wines, mostly reds with one white. The charcuterie board was small, but only $10 and it was good for nibbling. There is lots of seating both indoors and out, and it's nice to not have to make a reservation!

The hanging baskets of petunias add a splash of vibrant color and help create a lovely setting. Just 35 minutes from Portland, it's a quick and easy escape from the City, immediately transporting you to a vastly different setting that makes you feel like you are hours away! The owner and winemaker, Chris, is super friendly and enthusiastic about making delicious and affordable wines. They offer several flight options and being a fan of reds, I chose the flight that was all red, varying from light to strong, finishing with a blend. Flights are between $12-15, which is so reasonable, and he waives the flight charge if you buy a bottle. We both loved the red blend so each bought the Reliable Red for $28. Running a restaurant or bar during Covid-19 with the ever changing restaurant laws is challenging. Having this outdoor covered space means you can still enjoy a glass of wine and the beauty of the vineyards while supporting a hardworking local business. Service was fantastic! We really enjoyed our time here and the wines. Definitely local grapes which means Pinots, and even though my preference is for big and bold, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the wines. In addition to the wine tasting, they have another structure for hosting weddings and events. One whole wall opens up which means it classifies for outdoor dining - so no worries about having to cancel if you plan an event here. We are really looking forward to coming back in a month or so when the weather is warmer, the vines are more mature and the flowers abundant. As we left, Chris gave us a map and recommendations for other wineries to visit, all that were already on our agenda which made us feel good about our choices. Thanks to the Yelpers and their reviews which put Whiskey Hill on my radar!

So thank you wine God for an outstanding private wine tasting experience. Amanda led us down a path of whites leading into reds, with a rose' or two in between. Not a bad wine along the trail, with a few exceptional examples of flavors that Bachus would be proud to call his own - white and red blends with Sauv Blanc and Malbec leading the charge. 10$ wine tasting fee per person - waived with a 2 bottle purchase per person.
