Old Hans has retired but the store still speaks with a Danish accent, and the new owners are very helpful. My walls are lined with good teak bookcases from this store, and we've bought other stuff there as well. Racine is/was a Danish town, known for its kringle, so it's appropriate that it still sports a store carrying really good quality imported Danish furniture. read more

Just got home from your store. What a disappointing experience! Not sure if I didn't look rich enough? Had bad breath? Or what? I came prepared to write a big fat check and buy all new furniture for my living room, which I told you when I arrived. But the clerk who waited on me wasn't able to communicate with me well enough to make a sale. Trying to get information about the many choices was like pulling teeth. Then when I apologized for not explaining myself well enough (yes I apologized!), he argued with me and told me I had asked him the wrong questions! I finally had to extricate myself from the very uncomfortable situation and take my money elsewhere. So sad. read more

We needed new bedroom furniture and wanted natural, handcrafted wood, made in the USA. We visited all of the normal furniture stores one visits in Chicago's northern suburbs (e-g. Dania, Room & Board, Crate and Barrel, etc) for contemporary furniture. We found an uniform lack of quality in what we saw. Searching on-line, I found a manufacturer in Vermont (Copeland) that is sold at one store near downtown Chicago and one store in Racine. We made the trip to Racine to Hansen Interiors, and we are thrilled that we did. A nice-sized store with plenty of free parking and with lots of beautiful contemporary furniture. We found what we wanted and placed our order. The owner, Torben, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Our furniture arrived and was delivered. No problems; the owner and his assistant delivered the items to our home and installed them. The furniture looked great but after a week, I noticed a mark in the wood on one item. I knew it was natural wood, but everyday it annoyed me more. I called Torben - no problem - he called the manufacturer who agreed to replace the item. A few weeks went bye, and Torben called - a replacement came in but he didn't like the way it looked. He called the manufacturer again and ordered a new one. He is installing the new one - with no annoying mark - this week. If you are in the market for contemporary furniture, a trip to Racine will be worth your time. I knew that they carried quality lines the minute I walked in the door. I learned that the quality of their furniture was matched by the quality of their service. The best service that I have ever had from a store. It was a pleasure dealing with Hansen Interiors and I will be a repeat customer. read more

Retired college professor with residual problems from herniated disks in search of a chair. A $1500 recliner from much-vaunted Penny Mustard left me nearly crippled. I practically crawled to Hansen's in search of the Norwegian-designed/built Ekornes stressless recliner of which I had read on the internet during desperate late-night research sessions. There I met Torben. Man knows his stuff. I'll cut to the chase here: Four months after purchase, I write these words whilst sitting pain-free in my Ekornes. This chair is clearly the product of wizardry. Odin himself whispered the secret formula to the Ekornes company. I never dreamed this was possible. Not only am I pain-free while sitting in the chair, but I experience FAR fewer "moved-suddenly-and-threw-the-back out" episodes elsewhere. You need to be prepared for sticker shock big time, friends. And you need to be prepared to take on a faithful care regimen of the chair, including cleaning and oiling the leather every three months. (It's sort of like raising a Kobe steer in your living room.) The price alone will drive away casual buyers, but if, as I had, you have exhausted the alternatives, please investigate this one. read more

WOW! We drove down from the Milwaukee area on a whim. When we walked in the door, we were greeted by Torben. We told him we were interested in a chair for my husband, who is taller than average. Torben knew exactly which chairs would "work" and which chairs wouldn't. He knew everything possible about his merchandise. He offered only facts and left the opinions up to us. He was not pushy at all. My husband fell in love with a chair, and we ordered it. Can't wait for it's arrival. After shopping the usual "big" stores in Milwaukee, I am glad we drove to Racine. The quality of furniture is unbelievable. Yes, the price is more, but when you figure out how many hours/months/years you will be using the furniture, the price is no longer important. And when you get quality products that will look good for many years ... it's worth it. We'll be returning to purchase more furniture. No more cheap furniture from the big stores for us! read more
