Two for potential. We live right up the road and would probably frequent this venue weekly IF we weren't constantly charged a cover for an empty bar. Pros: Cool venue. Great outdoor settings. The bbq is great. Prices are average. It's a decent place to watch football if you get there early enough to claim a tv. (This was from a year ago) Cons: There is always a cover. We went at 8 o'clock on Friday night for a few prelimary evening beverages. This was an hour before any band and would have been playing. Basically, if you go after 8pm and you're not there to see a band, expect to pay a cover no matter what. read more

I always have a great time at Hanovers! Friendly staff. Great music. Clean bathrooms. Be inside or outside. I've even brought my kids there once for a family-friendly music show. They enjoyed the playground and BBQ dinner. I've been there dressed up, been there in my pajamas. They hold many fundraisers, always supporting those in need. This place has brought me many wonderful memories!!! Many of my weekends were never complete without a trip to Hanovers to watch the bands and visit with friends. Disclaimer: I was in fact quite inebriated by the end of the evening, but I still enjoyed myself, so take the review for what its worth. I tried this place for two reasons: First, it was recommended from a good friend who frequents the bar. Second, there was a band I wanted to see playing there as well. Since there was live music, there was a cover charge, but it wasn't unreasonable, so no biggie. All of the staff was friendly and quick to fill my drink orders, even as it got more and more crowded. And the drinks weren't weak, so all the better! Since my evening was a bit blurred by the end, I'll do a quick summary of what I did & didn't care for. Pros: * Live music - The stage area and dance floor was nicely set up to accomodate bands of different sizes * Large outdoor area * Diverse crowd Cons: * Smoking allowed inside - While I found the place to be fairly well ventilated, I know that cigarette smoke can really get to people. Be warned that people are allowed and will be smoking inside. * Far North location - If you're in the neighborhood, its a fun place, but I can see how trekking in from downtown or south Austin would be problematic. Clearly, I had a good time, so I'll definitely be back for another visit when I'm in the area :) read more

You know that Buffy episode called "Band Candy"? Where the adults eat candy bars and suddenly act like teenagers even though they're still 40 something years old? This is what I experienced tonight at Hanover's. The bar itself is in an interesting little downtown area of Pflugerville that I actually really like. It's kind of a divey bar. Not scary divey. Just divey enough for weekend biker poseurs to feel like they're being tough by hanging out there. I'm talking about those commercials on tv about the biker gang of lawyers (or is it lawyer gang of bikers?) who claim to specialize in biker-related court cases. This is where these guys go to 'quote' party '/quote'. There was a seven dollar cover charge after midnight for an all-girl cover band. Yeah they were cute and all (I thought the bassist was awfully cute and I don't even like chicks) but I can go to a karaoke bar and get similar cover songs without paying seven bucks at the door. And I wouldn't have to watch men that look like my creepy old uncle try to do a 'sexy dance' on the dance floor with his middle aged girlfriend. Please don't get me wrong, people of every size and shape are sexy in their own ways. But this..this was where people who used to go to sixth street in the early nineties have ended up since they've settled in the suburbs. And they think they're still rocking that mullet and stache. I say just own your debauchery, suck it up, and drive to the actual dive bars. Or keep it to your rumpus room like a proper suburbanite. Either way, just let me enjoy the music and leave me alone. The beer was reasonably priced but the emotional cost of being checked out by weekend biker warriors was very high. My friend and I made it clear we were uninterested in random male attention so we were called lesbians (not that we cared really) AND there was indoor smoking. Blech! They started stacking the bar stools right around us at 1:30 am so we felt rushed to finish our pitcher. All around a bad and gross night. read more

I came here for my first time on Saturday to watch my coworker's band play, and at the end of the night, I left very pleasantly surprised. Hanover is nestled in the middle of old downtown Pflugerville and seems to attract a bit of an older crowd. I felt kind of out of place at first, but everything became more enjoyable after a few drinks and the arrival of some familiar faces. My coworker mentioned that there would probably be a cover at night (since there were 4 bands playing), so we called ahead and found out that they would only start charging an $8 cover after 8pm. Hubs and I got there right at 7:45. YES, more money for beer! We stuck with pitchers of Zieg- which were on special for $8- all night. Service was efficient, and while no one at the bar was super friendly, no one was rude either. From several reviews, it seems like this place used to allow indoor smoking. Not anymore though- there was a "Share the Air" sign on one of the walls, and there wasn't a cigarette in sight unless you stepped outside. Overall, the inside of the place was nothing special, and I would give Hanover 3 stars if it weren't for the back patio. I never would've known that the back patio even existed if it weren't for my ridiculous grumbly tummy (that normally gets fed once every 3 hours). 9:30pm rolled around, and I still had not had dinner. Tummy told me that it was displeased. Very displeased. In fact, it wouldn't allow me anymore beer until it got dinner. This is when a bartender pointed me out to the back where Twisted Dish had a food stand set up. Ooohhh...the baaack...(think of "Ooohhh the claaaww" from Toy Story). ...of course, I would somehow randomly incorporate Toy Story into this. Dork alert. Super-big, wooden deck patio, pretty twinkly lights, 2 sand volleyball courts, food, and BEER PONG. Hanover would've easily been a forgettable bar if it weren't for this hidden 5 star gem in the back. Hence, my 4 star (averaged out) review. No questions asked- when the weather starts cooling down a bit, you can bet you'll find me back at Hanover playing pong. read more

It would be borderline remarkable if I could effectively muse of the experience of others here, but since I can't, really, I won't. Really. I've been to Hanover's a few times through the years, and what you see by my estimation is mostly what you get - a room that tends to book pretty decent Austin singer songwriter talent and a few fun shows (we caught the most recent Skyrocket opus last night), and boasts an expansive backyard and solid cadre of brew taps. They're not reinventing the atom here (and let's face it, that would be weird), but what they are doing is fairly tried and true. And more times than not it's worked just fine for me. There are some quirky peculiarities to be certain: the fact that the place has that sort of sideways / Antone's thing happening where you're very close to the stage at all times and very close to the bar besides. On our stop, the music was happening inside and outside there was an entirely different juju, what with some piped in C&W giving way to country swing on a patio with room to spare. It won't be for everyone, and it's not always subtle. But for an evening with little pretension and more rolliciking smiles than a room full of hayrides, Hanover's did me just right. read more

This review is actually for Gano's Smokehouse. We got here just after 5 pm when they opened. We each ordered the three meat plate which had sausage, brisket and ribs potato salad and cream corn. The meat had a nice smoke ring and good flavor but was unfortunately a bit dry. It felt the ribs had been cut in advance, the sides quite dry. I bit into a small piece of bone in the sausage which I realize can happen but it's not pleasant. I'd be willing to try again but with the $20 price after tax I was hoping for better. read more

I went to this place last night for a friends good bye party. I got there with a date around 7:30. The place had a total of 6 people in it. It was really bright in the bar which gave it a food court vibe. I headed straight for the bar. The male bartender looked as though he was pushed that we walked in. He even at one point rolled his eyes. After waiting for 10 minutes for him to acknowledge us.. Mind you there is only 6 people in the bar, he begrudging asks us what we want. The whole time he's making eye contact with my date.. Which is funny because I was paying the first round.. I ordered a fireball and my friend a draft beer. The total was 10 bucks! 10 bucks for this biker style, wanna be BBQ, live band ( but no band.. In fact no music at all! You could hear all conversations going on) place. Very disappointed. I went to their facebook page to voice my concern and you should see the owner/ manager/ probably the bartenders reply! They basically said sorry and to please change my review. Umm... Nope, thank you. Of all the bars in pflugerville, skip this one on a Tuesday night. If I wanna be treated like shit and spend a butt load on drinks, I'll go to a bar west lake. I want to try and find something positive about the place.. I didn't try the food so maybe it's really good? Maybe I came on the wrong night... But I went to another bar down the street and it had a total of 4 people in it and the place was awesome! The bartender was badass and the their was music! TLDR; Hanover's is a-ok. - NTDBR+EOS (Nothing To Do But Read, Plus, Edison's on Shiraz): For whatever reason, you're in Pflugerville. You want bar. And you don't want to go one step further than right there. Boom. Hanover's. Hanover's is the pinnacle of generic draft beer bar. (Despite me calling it the pinnacle, though, it's kind of an oxymoron to be the best of generic? right?) The place is pretty large, and fairly clean for a wannabe dive bar. If it used to be smokey smelling inside, as Kelly alluded back in 2009, I could not detect it at all. (good work, Hanover's) The jukebox thing is digital. There's no apparent broken things in here, and no graffitti (although admittedly I didn't use the bathroom). The outdoor area has a family-feel to it. Overall, it's clear that the people running Hanover's wanted to make as many of the average old school Texan demographics feel as welcome as possible, and that's probably not a bad idea if you have a bunch of Plugervillian family units or about-to-nest-ers in the area. (Although at the current rate of vegans and other folks multiplying in A-town, they might want to look into an alt-menu for when those people move up to P-Ville. Maybe glance at Whip-In?) All the things at Hanover's: draft beers / regular beers / mixed drinks (I didn't see wine anywhere, but maybe they have it?) happy hour indoors: bar you can stand at bar you can sit at barstool height tables you can sit at/lean on boothy seats long picnic tables with seats Saxon-Pub-style stage, but with better rear sound reinforcement (add a half star) wood floor (might be ok for dancing) adequate a/c and many ceiling fans bartenders and I think cocktail waitpeople requisite televisions playing random sporting event(s) outdoors: covered seating uncovered seating genericky bbq (sorry smokehouse, but you need to step up your formula if you want to charge what the big boys charge and expect me to come back) dirt volleyball courts (2! possibly add a half star if you belong to the youth leagues that were playing here in the summer, mr. or ms. sixteen candles) mini game room with a couple games in it no noticeable misters (grr) read more

This is a great place to enjoy your drinks and have fun at the same time too. Unlike 6th Street's crowded bars, Hanover's is enjoyable because there is alot of room, great drink selection and outdoor area for you to enjoy their drinks! I love going there on Sundays to enjoy their Poker Night and I enjoy Friday and Saturdays since they often have a band playing. What makes this place different is the atmosphere. I don't like being packed into a bar just to enjoy a drink. I just want to be able to sit down, enjoy my drink and listen to music. This is why I come here! I love the owners since they are always accomodating and I definitely be coming here more often for the summer when its time to play volleyball on their courts! Came here to see the Guilty Pleasures all-girl cover band (as an aside, they are awesome. This place is a great live music venue with multiple standing and seating areas, a pool table and an outdoor patio. Service was quick and friendly and the patrons were all having a great time. They make a nice gin and tonic too. read more

Wow! I love this place. We've been in Pflugerville for 2 years and had never heard of this place. A friend introduced my husband to it and my husband convinced me to go for happy hour one day. I usually don't like divey type bars, but he promised me I'd like it. We went a couple of weeks ago after work and I like the fact that they have a jukebox. I haven't experienced the live bands yet, but will soon and will update my review. Anyway, the bartenders are super cool and they LOVE it when I play Footloose by Blake Shelton 6 times in a row (wink wink) I seriously do listen to that song too many times there, because there's so much room for me to dance. Everyone is a good sport and I always have a blast there. :) Almost forgot to mention, there's a place outside that has a few comfort food items. read more

Obviously the kiddo was not with us but we'll defiantly be back to check out the weekend vibe. This place isn't bad. Large stage with decent sound. Large bar so plenty of space to grab a drink. HUGE outside area. They even have a food spot in the back. Lots of covered and uncovered area. My only beef with this place is a cover charge. Cover charges are ridiculous. Good venue for a night out and lots of room to invite a big crowd of friends for inside or out... I recently made it my stop to come and see a band I was interested in. Seems there were about two birthday parties (adults of course) and a "meet up" group.. not sure if it was due to the band playing or just the crowd for a Friday night, but the average age was mostly older. A few thirty somethings, a few mid forties, and a majority were fifty+... as noted, it could have been from the cover band, and it seemed to be a lot of locals and friends.. so it wasn't an every changing crowd you could say. Overall, nice place to get a drink at and maybe meet someone when a band you'd like to see if here, but for a "hey let's go to..." night, I am not sure (unless you're a local). Good atmosphere, ample room, different inside and outside spaces for your group, playground for kids, washer pits, a basic dart board, and lots of outside seating.... read more

This is the hot spot of Pflugerville. Pitchers of domestic drafts for $9.75 can't be beat in the ATX area. Great live music and plenty of entertainment on the patio. Only downside: no dogs allowed. read more

I've always wanted to play there and when I finally had a free evening, I show up only to be turned away at the door and told that there is a cover because of some band (that I don't care to see) is playing. There needs to be another point of entry for volleyball players where we don't have to pay to basically "listen" to a band that is playing inside (away from the court) that we will never hear. read more

We just started playing volleyball at this place, and I like the feel. I'm a big dance hall, honkey Tonk person and this place seemed like they have some rowdy nights. There was karaoke as we left and looked like a lot of fun. Big stage and easy to get to bar. The outdoor patio is equipped with big TVs and they have a BBQ stand that had some pretty good brisket. Will definitely have to check it out another night of the week. read more

The sound system was excellent! You could tell they knew what they were doing with the sound set up. My fella and I went to hear the South Austin Moonlighters, who I recommend checking out; great bunch of guys you could tell enjoyed playing with each other. The outside area was nice and I wish we could have listened to them outside. You had to go outside to order food and they only had two choices of food. Pulled pork sandwich was ok. I liked the pickled cabbage on it. They got the music right but definitely need to work on the seating inside. Not ideal. read more

Hanovers is one of my favorite Pville spots. Besides the fact that it's an easy stumble home, it's also a nice, relaxed place to get a drink and hang out. I also really like that you can smoke inside - Austin bars are so sterile. The bartenders are always friendly, and they've got a great draft selection - at least 15 beers. The bar staff seems trained on their beer, too, which isn't always the case in places that have a ton of drafts. I don't know if I'd drive up from Austin to come here, but if you live in the neighborhood it's definitely worth a visit. read more

This place has grown quite a bit since I have moved into town... the volleyball courts are an excellent addition to their large backyard. They have expanded their deck and added some pretty cool lights which provides a nice effect. Inside you will find a couple pool tables along with karaoke and tons of ashtrays. The bartenders are pretty rude and don't seem to care to earn a decent tip. The food menu is very basic ... fried everything but I'm assuming they don't have a full kitchen. Its worth a look on late nights but typically pretty slow during the afternoon to evenings. read more

I have a $6 tip no problem. 3 days later I was contacted by my Credit Card Company asking if I had ment to give a $26 dollar tip. They added a 2 I front of the 6. I'm so disappointed in my neighborhood bar. I drove by a couple of times this week and saw large groups of unmasked people, crammed into a small space, playing volleyball. The owner said it was because the business needed the money, so they rented out the space for the games. The numbers of infections are surging right now (July 2020) and even after many people begged the owners to shut down these unsafe games, their response was, basically, "you do you, we do us". This attitude has caused the shut down to drag on and on. People are suffering and our neighborhood bar does not seem to care. So sad. read more

rumor has it this place is a lumberyard turned bar. i believe it, the building looks like it belongs to another time (actually every building in downtown pflugerville looks like it belongs in another time and place) and the interior has some gorgeous floors. went tonight to meet friends to see vallejo. there was a $10 cover but we were with the band and so didn't have to pay. they tried to make us pay initially b/c someone had slipped them a completely fake VIP list and we obviously weren't on that one, but then the agent caught word of what happened and found the real list and we got in ok. i like the atmosphere. there's no pretentiousness. the back patio provides a nice quiet contrast to the loud interior with the live acts. it's an interesting mix of people compared to what we're used to but i think it's a pretty good representative of pflugerville. the best part of the night, and the part i wasn't prepared for, was seeing the beautiful and darkened old time buildings across the street as we left. we went from a night of exceptionally loud live rock to stepping into a street from the late 1800s. surreal. read more
