On June 6, 2025, our group of 10 cyclists riding the GAPCO Trail (Pittsburgh to D.C.), lodged at Hanna House B&B, probably the best place we stayed during our entire 10-day trip.
Hanna House is a lovely old farm house featuring a stocked pond, ginormous pasture, covered patios, storage shed, spacious living & dining rooms, charming bedrooms and impeccable furnishings. It is Americana at its best.
The owner and sole operator is Francis. Her place was the best bargain of our trek given the very reasonable cost of stay and amenities. Other B&Bs along the GAPCO were more expensive but hers was clearly the better value. It was the most comfortable, beautiful, restful and aesthetically pleasing place we stayed. We didn't want to leave. And Francis was the most congenial host we met on our trek. She is special!
We can't say enough good things about her. Refreshing homemade brownies & iced tea greeted us during check-in after a wet ride that day. Yummy! Chilly and soaked from morning rain, we welcomed a hot shower. Felt like home. We played cards, drank her lemonade and iced tea in her living room (she lives upstairs). She opened up her house to us.
Some of us drove into town later on to pick up some cold beer. It was so relaxing to sit in her rocking chairs overlooking her lovely pond while drinking our cool beers after a hard day's ride. Nervana!
And her breakfast was the best we had during our trip. It included coffee, juices, fresh fruits such as watermelon, strawberries, mangos, with scrambled eggs, quiche, bacon, sausage, muffins, and toast. Probably more but I can't recall all of the items.
Given her remote location (~2 miles east of Confluence), she even offered to drive us into town for dinner. What a generous gesture. She offers this service to all cyclists at no cost. Hanna House is just mile from the GAP, so trail access is excellent.
As you can imagine, our large party booked all her rooms except one. Our tenth rider was unable to find lodging other than back in Confluence. Attempting to keep our group together, I asked Francis what she could do. Fortunately, we were able to get him lodging with the rest of us. Despite a full house, Francis offered him the living room couch with bedding and breakfast for a very modest fee. More than fair. It was so kind and thoughtful of Francis to do this. I give you another example of what a wonderful person she is.
In conclusion, we highly recommend Hanna House if you're planning to crash in Confluence, PA, whether driving or cycling. Hanna House is a real gem. Go Francis! read more
