The ice cream is delicious better than any other place around. Also the all the girls that work there are super nice. Hanks definitely knows what there doing with ice cream.

As I may have stated previously, this is my favorite type of restaurant, harkening back to my childhood in rural Vermont. Today is sunny and warm... a perfect day for a country drive and a perfect chance for me to try Hank's. I came for lunch this trip and was not disappointed. The food is excellent, the portions generous, the service fast and friendly, and the prices reasonable. Hank's is a place I will want to return to again and again!

Fried whole belly clams, onion rings, coleslaw, roll.

Fried clam bellies delicious, sweet and breading is light and I was happy with the portion size. Onion rings handcut and also delicious. Chocolate banana milkshake was large and yummy. Only complaint was the coleslaw was salty but I think that maybe just a fluke where someone grabbed salt instead of sugar while making it and I will test that theory next time I visit.

For my fall New England trip, Hank's is one of the first place I visited. A real Plainfielder for years recommended that I try this place, so at my first opportunity I got a chocolate/vanilla swirl with a butterscotch dip. The dip was the best part of the dessert. This place is super cute and an icon of Plainfield! FYI... This place is cash only.

We only went to Hanks for Ice Cream, and only here because Buttonwood homemade ice cream had a line about 50 people long. We were a bit disappointed that only soft serve was available at a "dairy bar". Choc, van, twist, coffee and strawberry were available. All of the topping options you would expect (no hot butterscotch!) , and birthday cake hard dip. I will say that the fried clams looked yummy, and the service was great. Would I rather have homemade ice cream? Yep, any day. If I had kids who just wanted ice cream though, this place would be ok. There is a swingset to use and porta potties in the parking lot. The menu photo is attached in case you are wondering what is available. Only reason I did not give a higher vote was because I felt foiled by a dairy bar with 5 (limited) flavors of soft serve.

I got the lavender strawberry ice cream in a waffle cone. The icecream was creamy and perfectly sweetened. They have a long list of flavors to choose from and plenty of outdoor seating. The area is nice and relaxing with cows adjacent to the building. There is also a sunflower field next door but it wasn't in season yet. There is a long line because the place is so popular but the service is quick. I'll definitely be back!

However, when I was at Foxwoods with my wife, I realized we were about 15 minutes away. I messaged Cticecreamtour and asked for Recs. He said, anything with chocolate chips, and anything with blueberries. We arrived today, and I was hoping to get an Ice Cream Flight, which Buttonwood does not offer. Instead, I ordered a Banana-less Banana Split that came with 3 scoops, 3 toppings, whipped cream and cherries. For ice cream I chose, Mint Oreo, Peanut Butter Oreo, and Red, White and Blueberry. For my toppings, I chose hot fudge and peanut butter sauce. They do not have candy toppings, but they do have nuts. Cticecreamtour was right. The blueberry ice cream base was amazing. I think it also had a raspberry swirl, marshmallow and chocolate chips. A delicious flavor. Peanut Butter Oreo also was top tier. I liked the Mint Oreo, but it wasn't one of my favorite mint ice creams. The whipped cream was high end. The other toppings were good too. My wife let me try her Chocolate Chip sundae. It has one of the better base vanillas I've had in CT. Great chocolate chips too. A few other tidbits. People who knew what they were doing were getting fresh made waffle cones. I would recommend getting one. They looked good. Also, Buttonwood is known for sunflowers. They were not out yet though. A great farm ice cream experience. 5 Stars

After all, they make their own 16% premium ice cream in dozens of flavors. You'll see a long narrow building with an ordering window and a few menu boards advertising the flavors and serving options (cups, cones, sundaes, frappes, floats, and cakes). On the right side of the building is a country store selling pre-packaged beef, pork, dairy, groceries, and clothing. We did see a pretty good sale on $10 sweatpants! But on this rainy day we stopped for ice cream and picked up two cones for under $10. My wife went with Cricket Crunch (Vanilla ice cream with mint cookies and chocolate chips) and I went with Ayrshire Chip (Strawberry ice cream with chocolate chips). We both thought the ice cream was extraordinary, with a creamy texture, excellent flavors, and yummy chocolate chips. There isn't any seating inside, save for a bench, but there is plenty outside under a tent. Today was raining, so the tent seating was drenched, and we had our cones in the car. The rainy weather and muddy grounds also discouraged us from walking over to the barns to see the animals, which surely are a big hit with visiting children. So, if you' and your loved ones are ice cream nerds like we are, head on over to Connecticut's Quiet Corner and enjoy a sweet experience.

A Sweet, Iconic Stop: Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream…read more Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream is one of those rare places where the nostalgia hits just as hard as the flavor. It's the kind of shop that feels woven into the fabric of Mystic itself--warm, welcoming, and perched right over the water with a view that makes every scoop taste a little sweeter. Ice Cream That Actually Lives Up to the Hype The ice cream here is rich, creamy, and clearly made with care. Flavors are bold without being artificial, and classics like chocolate, vanilla, and mint chip are elevated by how fresh and balanced they taste. Their specialty flavors--especially anything with fudge, cookie chunks, or local ingredients--are the real standouts. Every scoop feels indulgent in the best way. A Location That Makes the Experience There's something magical about enjoying your cone while watching the drawbridge rise and fall. Whether you're inside by the windows or outside taking in the breeze, the setting adds a charm you just can't replicate. It's a perfect stop during a Mystic stroll, and it's hard not to linger a little longer than planned. Friendly, Patient Service Even when the line stretches out the door (and it often does), the staff stays upbeat and helpful. They're quick with samples, happy to make recommendations, and keep things moving without making anyone feel rushed. It's the kind of service that makes the whole experience feel personal. A Must‑Visit in Mystic Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream earns every bit of its reputation. Great flavors, generous portions, a beautiful waterfront setting, and genuinely kind staff make it a five‑star stop every time. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this is one of those Mystic staples you don't skip. Andddd they are opened year round!!! Cheers
