We loved the Hanger!! It was a beautiful summer Saturday night and the restaurant was packed. Everyone was dressed in their beautiful summer attire for a memorable evening alfresco dinner. Such a lovely vibe on the Amstel river at sunset. As most restaurants and businesses in the area, they where short staffed but everyone is hustling. The service is slow but it is understandable. We enjoyed our bottle of rosé and years of friendship on the end-of-summer night. My friend had been here previously to COVID, there was a "beach" but dining tables have been added. The reimagined hanger was fun and beautiful. We hope to go back and eat soon. Reservations are encouraged for the weekend. Reservations not required for drinks along the river. www.hanger.amsterdam or info@hanger.amsterdam

Big on aesthetic, little on substance. This place looks great and the staff are very nice, but it is in desperate need of a better chef & menu. Your place can be cool and in a great location, but if the food falls short none of that matters. Five of us dined in, sampling the steak, curry, pasta, etc. The steak was raw and tasteless, the curry had some taste, but the vegetables were barely cooked and I got mild food poisoning. The consensus from the group was a complete lack of substance to this menu. Also, the menu is all over the place. Pick a cuisine and master that before you try to tackle something else. Don't waste your money here unless it's just drinks.

It's all about location location location. This place is an excellent spot by day and by night. We didn't have dinner just snacks but they were nothing special. The bitterballen tasted cheap and the fries were dry and the mayonnaise was plain. I really expected more quality from a place like this. The staff was good & polite. I recommend this place if you want to have drinks with good company and enjoy a great view over "het IJ".

Now if only he spent as much time on the floor looking after people's needs as he did on his man-bun

If you are sharing a meal with someone, get items from a different prix-fixe menu and you can both try a variety of items. We enjoyed: * Charcuterie plate: sausages taste minimally processed and delicious * Beef and onion stew: taste slightly different than ones in America * Cauliflower and cheese oven bake: vegetarian's comfort food * Hutspot (mashed potatoes and carrots) and meatballs: non-vegetarian's comfort food * Pea soup with smoked ham For desserts, we had chocolate mousse and vlaflip (vanilla custard) and they were just okay. I'm not sure if desserts are the Dutch's strengths, except maybe the Dutch apple pie. They even bottle their own house beer. The restaurant is small. Try to make a reservation if you can. We didn't have a reservation, but went to the restaurant at around 5PM and were seated in about 15 minutes. At times, the line could get very long, but the staff is still welcoming and ensures that everyone gets served...eventually.

Portions are substantial and a very good value in a neighborhood where tourist-markups are the norm. They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).

Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. It gets incredibly busy, so even though it feels like a "hidden" spot from the outside, you'll definitely want to book a table ahead of time. Overall: A total neighborhood win. Don't make the mistake of walking past it for as long as I did!

We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Just what we needed to energize us after our morning at Keukenhof!

We were exploring Amsterdam all day and really needed a drink! 20,000+ steps will do that to you…read more A friend visited Tales and Spirits a few years ago and recommended we go there if we had the chance. Apple Maps told me we were less than 1/2 mile away so we headed over there. Located just off a canal on a pedestrian walkway basically at the start of the Red Light District, we arrived soon after they opened and got a nice table near the bar. Forget ordering what you usually drink- the menu has dozens of concoctions most of which looked real good. I ordered a "T&S Old Fashion and my wife had "The Girl Next Door". Both were drink types we usually don't order but we loved them enough to order another round. Speaking of the menu-it's pretty entertaining besides all the drink choices. Also entertaining was watching the bartenders making the drinks with a huge flair of showmanship. Music tracks were great as well. Could have just stayed to listen to the music. The food options looked tasty as well but we were still full from lunch so we just opted to drink. By the time we left, Tales was pretty full. A fun place to come back to and recommend to friends.

After a very short walk, we arrived. The place was small but adds to the charm. Nice decor and friendly service. We each had 2 cocktails and split an order of Bitterballen and Truffle Risotto. I had never had Bitterballen but figured since I was in Holland, it was a must. So good. I would definitely recommend for a cocktail before/after dinner or if you're looking for some appetizers/small plates. Great spot.
