    Chocolate mousse with almond crunch

My husband and I were tipped off to this popular locals spot in North Amsterdam by our Airbnb contact, who happens to work at the restaurant (thank you, Rinze!). Since we didn't have any set plans, we decided to check it out on our last night. Reservations are highly recommended as the place was bustling despite the huge amount of seating. We were greeted so warmly by the manager and head server, and offered a welcome drink on the house when we were seated. The menu is entirely in Dutch, and our server was kind enough to translate the entire thing for us, while offering suggestions based on our preferences. I started with a seafood stew while my husband had a ceviche - we thought these were both a really great start to the meal! For our mains, I went with a fish entree which was light and fresh. My husband had the poussin which he enjoyed. Finally, we each ordered our own dessert, as I had seen the chocolate mousse and wasn't prepared to share! I can't remember what my husband ordered because I was too focused on the perfection in front of me. Highly recommend the mousse, which seemed to be very popular among the other guests as well. I loved getting a taste of the local scene at Hotel de Goudfazant and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something off the beaten path while visiting Amsterdam.

This restaurant is an experience, an eclectic and interesting place. I got here with my friend by taking a tram and a local ferry. When you get there you realize that there is no hotel, only the name. If you are not a local most likely you are not going to this place since it is not easy to get to. They offer, "sail in movies" here as well in the weekends during the summer. Locals get by boat here and watch a movie. The food and service are excellent. I have tried beef tongue thinly sliced with gravy for an appetizer and it was delicious, a little rich but very nice. I also had steak with mashed potatoes, an elevated dish that was prepared perfectly. For dessert a typical Dutch dessert that consisted of a light chocolate mouse with roasted almonds and white creamy pudding sauce. The almonds added the crispy texture and it made it very nice. Before we left I was given a shot of local "moon shine" which was a pretty strong but I guess it help with digestion after a rich meal. A very nice new experience in Amsterdam.

Stylish restaurant off the canals. Hard to get to - we got there by sloop. Was surprised to see there was no official dock ... we had to tie up to random pole! Happy to see that it wasn't washed away by the time we got back. I had the lamb shank and enjoyed it. Nice little selection of bottled craft beers too. Small selection on tap but good enough. Worth coming to if you're in amsterdam. Especially if you have access to a sloop. If only for the wonderful talent that graces this establishment!

If you can find it, you'll love it! One more pearl in Amsterdam-Noord. Please keep this one to yourself ;-) The drinks are quite cheap, I think it's 1,80 for a bottle of beer, but please chose wine here ;-), the food is great! You can chose from several starters, main courses and desserts. EUR 8,50, EUR 17,00, EUR 7,50, or you chose the meal deal for EUR 30,50. Go for the lobster, you pay an extra of EUR 7,50 but I think it's worth it. The ambiance is unique in this place and not for sissy's, hceap furniture in an old factory hall decorated loft style well go see for yourself. Reservation definitely recommended!

I know I know... With all the good reviews and pretty good pictures, I'm sure you are wondering why this one only gave it three stars. Well, let me tell you why. Getting to the point right away - the food looks really pretty and it's not bad to taste but I have to confess it's average and mediocre. Doesn't live up to its looks or reputation. We saw the menu and the food on others tables and we were all so excited that we ordered a little too much. So, we got the oysters; they were good but we asked the waiter where they were from and he had to go ask somebody else who had to go ask somebody else and finally after an hour into the meal, the server told us where they were from. I wana know what I'm eating before I eat it - just saying. We also had the crab with avocado where the crab was too bland and stringy, the fish was tad too oily and we didn't order the dessert bcoz the waiter never showed up to our table after our main course. So, I think you already get the picture about the service. I'm used to it but this place was quite disappointing. We went here on a hot day and they had all the shutter/doors closed . Even after we asked them to open them just a bit for air- they completely ignored us and finally when I couldn't take the heat, I asked the waiter again and he responded quite rudely. The ambience is quite cool and industrial but the place can get hot due to the high ceilings and no windows. The prices are reasonable. They have a good wine list. Will I go here again - No. Why? With so many options in Amsterdam, I wouldn't go back to an average food, bad service, difficult to get to( 15 mins walk after ferry to noord).

Venison. Don't gamble, go for gold.

We were able to get seated right on the window area. We chose menu 5, which was just enough for two people. Everything was delicious! Their pea soup is out of this world. Don't know why as it is a simple dish but wow! I also love their herring. It was so delicious that I wanted seconds. It paired so well with their onions and mustard. And their bitterballen was just enough bite. Creamy and crispy! We also got a combination of the hutspot. They were all delicious! Although for me the meatball was just a tad bit salty but it is probably just me! Everything else was spot on. I love their dessert at the end. It was a great way to end the night. Our server and their staff were all amazing! Very friendly and welcoming. Yes it is a tourist spot but totally worth it.

We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!

Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. It gets incredibly busy, so even though it feels like a "hidden" spot from the outside, you'll definitely want to book a table ahead of time. Overall: A total neighborhood win. We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Just what we needed to energize us after our morning at Keukenhof!

Apple Maps told me we were less than 1/2 mile away so we headed over there. Located just off a canal on a pedestrian walkway basically at the start of the Red Light District, we arrived soon after they opened and got a nice table near the bar. Forget ordering what you usually drink- the menu has dozens of concoctions most of which looked real good. I ordered a "T&S Old Fashion and my wife had "The Girl Next Door". Both were drink types we usually don't order but we loved them enough to order another round. Speaking of the menu-it's pretty entertaining besides all the drink choices. Also entertaining was watching the bartenders making the drinks with a huge flair of showmanship. Music tracks were great as well. Could have just stayed to listen to the music. The food options looked tasty as well but we were still full from lunch so we just opted to drink. By the time we left, Tales was pretty full. A fun place to come back to and recommend to friends.
