Very nice ambiance and feels a bit more local than many other restaurants in Rembrandtplein. At first we walked in with no reservation and were denied a table, despite many tables being free. We then used the "Table" app to book a reservation and came back later for a table. Very strange experience with that host. But all the effort was worth it, since the food was very tasty. Steak Taatar: Always a treat. Finely cut pieces of raw beef with nice spices. You mix in the egg yourself. Served with fries though, instead of toasted bread. So you can't really spread it. Think bread would be a better pairing. Meatballs & Stamppot: Traditionally Dutch dish. Only one meatball, that was shaped more like an oval than a ball. Nice mashed potatoes with greens and gravy. The crispy lardons were especially tasty. Very comforting. Though the single meatball felt kinda skimpy compared to other places that serve large meatballs or more multiple meatballs. Huisgemaakte Advocaat: Not quite the eggnog I know from the USA. Was more like a pudding consistency, though tasted very much like eggnog. I especially liked the flavorful jenever giving it a nice alcoholic kick. Citroen-meringuetaart: Love meringue pies. The tart and sweet fruit layer. The fluffy meringue layer. Well this place is totally worth going to. I had the seasonal pumpkin ravioli, delicious. But wait, then I ordered the bitterballen and oh my gosh, off the charts best I have ever had! I was on a mission for bitterballen and beer. And more food. Anyway, we ordered bitterballen and beer while waiting for our table, which wasn't too long, maybe 10 minutes or so. Side note: bitterballen is amaaaazing. It's the only thing I think about when I talk about Amsterdam, along with FEBO. On to the main dishes: We got the steak tartare, stampot, and fish. Rembrandtplein is a cool place. I know some people thing it's too touristy, and maybe it is. But it's also interesting for people watching. The thing is, as a local, you want to have a place you can go into and get away from the crowds...even on Rembrandtplein. This is that spot. It's traditional in a way that it's not trying to catering to tourists or to have a gimmick. It is was it is and is happy to be that way. The service was quite nice and the atmosphere was good too. We had a special situation where we had an unexpected large group that needed a place to have class (Dutch class), and they were more than happy to let us use two of their tables while only speaking to us in Dutch (per the teacher's request) as we ordered drinks. We were able to pay separately as we left and could pay cash or pin. Not sure about credit card since I didn't ask. But really, it's just an authentic spot that is quite simple but pleasant. read more

A non touristic place to eat, in a touristic area of Amsterdam. Some Dutch friends living there told us to come here to eat something good. So we went, but it what actually a french restaurant (and we're french) ahaha But it was really good (we didn't take classic french dishes like Coq au vin, but more an italian dish : pasta alla puttanesca). We also tried the croquets (dutch specialty), and it was waaay better than those in FEBO ;) The waiter was really nice and fun, and the plate was huge (I took a doggy bag with me because the quantity was for 2 or 3 people). At Rembrandtplein itself there are not many options (in my opinion) for having a drink. Most of the places there I would even consider because they are way to crowded, the music is to loud or they are just terrible. Fortunately there is also Café Schiller. The small entrance to this Café is perfect because the crowds overlook this place, and that is one of the reasons this place is so great. When you get inside, there are often enough seats left and there are many locals and a maybe few tourist (and not the loud drunk ones). The interior of this place is really great, old and charming. Very twenties! I love it! This place is perfect for drinks and dinner. I think the staff is also very friendly. The prices are absolutely fine. They also have a lot of board games! Fun to play with your friends over a drink. For me this is also a after-cinema spot to have drinks and chat :) read more

Jammer van zo'n tent met veel historisch besef. De prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is helemaal zoek en wat een verschrikkelijke bediening! Verwende, arrogante houding, een soort negeren en lang wachten ..... en wachten ..... en wachten.... Houding is wellicht ingegeven door verwende ligging aan toeristisch Rembrandtplein? Wat een lompe..... die vrouwelijke bediende hoort helemaal niet in de horeca thuis! Laat haar ajb zo snel mogelijk solliciteren op de vismarkt! I had the good fortune of eating/drinking here twice in the last week. It was my first time in Amsterdam and I was searching for a place where the locals go. My only criticism is that the first time I was there the server did not recite to me all the delicious Dutch specialties (well, mainly the Stampot) that were NOT on the printed menu but were available to the cognoscenti. The atmosphere is amazing - the place is all jugendstil and hasn't changed at all since its creation sometime around the turn of the last century (or perhaps the 20s). The seating is comfortable, the service friendly and confident. The food and drink are both exceptionally delicious. I look forward to returning here again and again any time I find myself in Amsterdam. read more

Love this cafe!! You have to see this cafe which is exquisitely decorated and designed with the perfect art nouveau style. The service was polite and timely and the coffee was some of the best ever. The ambience though is one of a kind with music to match. This is a perfect spot to chill out after a museum or busy day. Very intimate and comfy space! My fiancée and I visited on vacation from the US and we spent much longer than we anticipated here due to the atmosphere.
