Growing up Korean American in Southern California, I've eaten at countless Korean restaurants, and this is my favorite for authentic, traditional Korean cuisine. While Korean BBQ gets most of the attention, it's only a small part of what Korean food has to offer. The soy-marinated crab here is the best in Koreatown. I've tried it at several other restaurants, but nothing comes close to the quality and meatiness of the crab served here. The owner reportedly spent more than nine months sourcing the right supplier, and it shows. The restaurant's commitment to quality extends to every dish. Their egg omelet is made with over a dozen eggs, the kalbi short ribs are marinated for 48 hours, and the braised short ribs are made with wagyu beef. This place truly doesn't cut corners. As further proof, a three-star Michelin chef who frequents the restaurant has said it's his favorite Korean restaurant in Los Angeles. read more

Loved this place! Pretty unassuming on the outside, but the inside is cozy and modern. Service was super fast and great. Food was yummy too. The LA Galbi was solid. The meat was tender, sweet, and super flavorful. The seafood pancake was really big and crispy. Definitely good to share between 2-4 people. We each got a side sauce for the pancake. The best soy marinated raw crab I have had so far in Koreatown! Flavor was phenomenal and clean presentation that showcased how fresh the crab was. We also got a Seafood Scallion Pancake that was huge and super fresh too. So glad to see this place is still doing well after I checked this place out about 4 years ago. Parking can be a pain as they have a small parking lot shared with other restaurants in a plaza. The tables are limited but you should be able to grab one on a week night or an early dinner. This is usually one of my go-to spots for raw marinated crab in koreatown! My friends and I have eaten here multiple times, and every dish that we get is always so good! Dishes we got today: - pork belly kimchi pancake: really yummy pancake that pairs well with the soy sauce for dipping - prime short rib green cabbage soup: a good savory soup for a cold day! the meat is really tender and flavorful, and this goes well with or without rice - spicy raw marinated crab: has a good spice to it! goes really well with the rice mixed with the pickled veggies. be prepared to get your gloves really dirty though because of all the sauce LOL - soy marinated crab: it was a little salty on the day i got this, but in the past, i remember it being very flavorful but not too salty! also pairs well with the mixed rice, and it's a good contrasting flavor from the spicy marinated crab overall, i've never had a bad experience at haneuem! the service here is really efficient and attentive. the only downside here is the parking (small lot and only valet service for $3), so i'd advise carpooling if you can! read more

We wanted some good Korean food in Koreatown. And alas, here we go. Street parking is free after 6pm and if not, they have a valet - which they weren't going to tell us..? My sister and I came in for a late meal. This place did have a parking lot . I don't think you'd have to use a meter or parallel park. I don't remember seeing valet or not. The food here was good. The service was good. I had no complaints. The ambience was modern and cute. I would say it's a casual place. read more

We were able to come here for lunch and I'm so happy we did. There is a small parking lot in the plaza but we were fortunate enough to find street parking nearby. I wanted to come here because I saw so many good reviews about the raw marinated crab. The restaurant itself is small but they managed to fit a good number of tables. Service is great and they are super friendly. For food, we got a combo that came with spicy raw marinated crab, raw soy marinated crab, and raw soy marinated shrimp. Highly recommend getting this with a group because it was sooo much food. I loved that they gave you a lot of crab and you get a side of roe rice bowls. Food came out quickly and service was good, albeit a little slow on water refills. The food tasted fine, portions were just a little small relative to the price. I enjoyed the oysters the most, but the crab was solid too. Everything else pictured was okay and we left somewhat full. I visited HanEuem on a Tuesday night and had a great experience! Parking is convenient with valet available for $4.50, but you can also street park if you're lucky enough to find a spot. The restaurant itself was spacious and cozy, which made for a comfortable, casual dining setting. The waiters were warm and attentive, taking care of us right away. We ordered the soy-marinated raw crabs, pork belly kimchi pancake, and korean bbq cut beef short rib. It was my first time trying raw crab--the leg meat was delicious but the meat in the big crab shell was a bit fishy. But every dish was packed with flavor, and there were so many tasty side dishes too! Portions were generous and more than enough for the three of us. Overall, a great dining experience. My friend eats here a lot and posts about it online, so I was curious how the food is here too. My other friend wanted to grab some Korean food, so I gave her three options of where to eat. She picked this! Personally, I wanted to try the ribs, and they definitely hit the spot. They were full of flavor and had the right marinade and braising that just brought out all the flavors you would want in a dish like this. I think that was a really solid choice here, but then again, it's $55 for 4 pieces, which is kind of expensive. Luckily, my friend paid haha. The panchan is made eloquently. You get wild ear mushrooms in the japchae, you get pieces of shrimp. It's really high quality. For the crab, I personally do not enjoy eating raw crab (I love cooked crab but I just don't like the texture of raw crab), so I don't really have an opinion on that. However, I must say, that the bowl you use to mix your rice in with the veggies like bibimbap, that has the seaweed, fish eggs and other elements, was really quite tasty. I tried one of their marinated raw shrimps too, which was pretty good. The service here is great. Everyone is attentive and kind. The ambiance is nice. I like this place but I think I like their sister restaurant a tad bit more, over at Dasom, a few blocks away. I just wish that they went back to serving their old panchans there. Tucked away in a plaza in the heart of Los Angeles, HanEuem is the quintessential authentic Korean food serving comfort food and good vibes. As one of the better places to get raw marinated crab, HanEuem already gets my appreciation and approval. Keep in mind they often run out of the soy sauce marinated crab (bummer, I know!) but their spicy crab isn't bad either. Their food portions are generous and it truly does taste like comfort Korean food, retaining the authentic flavors while also giving them their own personality. The place is cozy with sufficient seating for a good amount of people given the size of the place. Being in a plaza, for better or for worse, yes this is yet another valet spot in Ktown. The service is good, the staff is friendly, and they help you out if needed. Overall, HanEuem delivers on the promise and is a great spot to grab a meal. Solid 4.5 stars. read more

Bulgogi: 6/10 - personally didn't like their bulgogi. I was really looking forward to this bc I love bulgogi! The meat texture was a lot different from other places I've had bulgogi. I also thought it was overcooked and the flavor was okay. Kimchi stew: 9/10 - this was really yummm and I don't really enjoy kimchi so I didn't expect myself to like it too much. I would go back just for that dish. The kimchi cake with pork rib? Wow. Crispy on the outside, packed with flavor inside, and the pork was tender and juicy. I ended up ordering their beef rib bone soup (galbi tang), their fried platter plate (mo doom jun) and of course the raw soy marinated crab. The galbi tang which had a lot of depth of flavor felt very rich without feeling too oily. The fried fish and stuffed pepper were also delicious and did not feel extremely filling. I really enjoyed how fresh the crab was including the rice and seaweed they include. The staff were attentive and asked for help since they were unsure if it had been our first time eating this type of cuisine which felt incredibly accommodating. Valet was 3.50 for lunch and 4.50 for dinner but the lot seemed spaced apart well. Will definitely be coming back to try their other items. read more

The spicy rice cake stew was a pretty large serving and had a good amount of each of the ingredients. The star of the show for us was the crab, of course. There was definitely the right level of spice, though I wish it came with the roe part. They also provided gloves for the crab. For a group of four, what we ordered was more than enough food. Truly one of a kind experience of a delicacy I didn't know existed until we stepped into this cozy eatery in ktown. As we're crab lovers we just had to try the soy sauce fermented fresh raw crabs and we fell in love with them. The crabs are so juicy, fresh and sweet. Surprisingly they're not fishy at all. The waiter is very friendly, patient and helpful as we never had this dish before so he had to explain how to eat them. Basically you squeeze the crabs to get the meat and juice out onto the sauce bowl then you mix it all up. This place is really busy. We had to wait a while to get seated. There were only 2 servers working on Christmas. We got: 1) 3/5 grilled mackerel ($24): I thought it was really bland until I put lemon, but my family really enjoyed it even w/o lemon 2) 4/5 spicy squid with rice ($21): This was really good, but too spicy for me. Comes with veggies. 3) 4/5 cockle bibimbap ($19): This was my fave dish. We didn't like the perilla leaf, but it was perfect otherwise. 4) 2/5 haemul pajeon ($29): Pajeon is always bland w/o sauce. Unfortunately, almost all Korean restaurants serve soy sauce with pajeon. The soy sauce makes it too salty, so you're stuck with either bland or OD salty pajeon. It makes everything taste really balanced instead of too overwhelmingly raw or "seafoody" like it can be at other places. Their seafood onion pancake is honestly the best Korean pancake I've ever had. The outside is super crispy and packed with big pieces of squid. So many places can't get that crisp right and end up serving soggy pancakes, but not here. Service is always great too. They give you iced barley tea by default, which I love, and the servers are always nice about showing you how to eat the raw crab if you're new to it. They're also quick to bring extra bowls or utensils if you need them. I've also tried the pork belly kimchi jjigae and the beef ribs -- both were fine but not must-haves for me. The raw crab and the pancake are definitely the stars. This is my go-to spot whenever I want to impress friends visiting! read more

Anyway, grab a table, order that braised beef and spicy chicken stew and go to town on some hearty comfort food before you go to mama lion across the street. The braised beef slides right off the bone and was tender beyond expectation. The spicy chicken was just the right amount of spicy though it can be a little dry. Seafood pancake is always a safe appetizer to get too. Anyway, I'm kind of rambling cause I'm going to say get beer and soju while you're at it. We came here on a Friday night with a group of 6 and they luckily had a table open for us. For food, we ordered the marinated crab, raw marinated shrimp, galbi-jjim, LA galbi, kimchi octopus and pork belly stir fry, and the kimchi seafood pancake. My favorites were definitely the galbi-jjim and LA galbi. The marinade they used was one of the best I've ever tasted. It was the perfect balance of sweet and salty. The galbi-jjim was so tender, this a MUST TRY. My second favorite was the marinated crab. This was the first time trying restaurant marinated crab and it was delicious. The crab was not fishy at all and the marinated was sweet and spicy. Another must try if you aren't afraid of eating raw food. The pork belly and octopus stir fry and seafood pancake were also really good too but the others were just on another level. Ordered the Dakdoritang (spicy chicken stew). It was a good sized portion for 2 people (they used a whole chicken). Big enough for 4 servings (get some extra bowls of purple rice). Came with big chunks of potato. The chicken was juicy and tender and the red pepper sauce wasn't overly spicy. Really good. Cane with some banchan and bowl of purple rice. Only one server on duty but he handled the growing crowd quite well (I got there around 5:30pm and it was getting busier when I left). HanEuem by Chef Kang. I had such a great experience here! I was next door at TPO Coffee and wandered over here for lunch. The food was great, and the service was excellent. Of course we had to get the soy marinated raw crab, which was my first time eating it. The lady explained that they were out of the Korea-caught crab, but the America-caught ones were better anyway. For $40, it came with five crabs. The lady gave us gloves and explained how to eat the crab mixed with the rice and toppings. It was absolutely delicious. It was even better with soju! The galbijim with cheese $61 was good, and we also got a pork belly kimchi pancake $22. This was too much food for three people, so we packed leftovers home. I would have liked to try the baby octopus stir fried too. The star of the show was the crab though. read more
