He was also flexible with the time, was able to accommodate me when I was available earlier. As opposed some of the other bigger companies that have millions of customers and you are dealing with admins, random staff and call centers, here you are always dealing directly with Bob. The install went super smooth, Bob came on time, he was in and out in less than an hour. He is also a local small business, just 'a man with a van', a genuinely nice guy with decades of experience doing this type of work so I was happy to support a local business owner. He told me that he is semi-retired, however, so if you're looking to get more labor-intensive work done in your home, he may no longer do it, but standard things like a disposal install, it's no problem. Could I have done what Bob does, Sure. But you must ask at what cost if I did? Bob was at my home less than an hour. I pointed to a plumbing issue and an electrical issue. Off he goes and before I know it, he was done, everything cleaned up and working perfect. His van is loaded with almost everything a handyman could possibly need. If I had done it my self, it would mean 2 maybe 3 trips to Home Depot, water off in the house for 2 maybe 3 days. Sore back and burnt fingers (or worse) from the electrical and 2 maybe 3 trips to the marriage counselor to explain I really didn't mean those things I said and yes, next time I will call Bob first. The trick is to call Bob when your wife is going to be out for a couple of hours (that seems to be all he needs for most projects) and take credit for the repairs yourself. Recently, we remodeled our home and asked Bob if he could tackle several projects. Bob is up-front and honest with you. He will not take on projects he is not comfortable with. One of my favorite memories is when Howard's appliances came to provide "free" delivery and installation of our new stove. They would not install it flush to the backsplash/wall. Bob happened to be there working on the home when they installed the stove. He let them leave and then within a few minutes the stove was flush with the wall and even with the countertops. Bob was there at the scheduled time, wore a mask the whole time and was very knowledgeable and courteous. He had all the right tools and any parts that were needed. He made an extra effort to install a recirculating water pump when it looked like the pump wouldn't fit. It required rotating the water heater, cutting and reinstalling a cooper drain line, etc. He cleaned up when he was finished and took the time to explain how the pump worked, and how to program it. The first job involved sanding and varnishing two solid oak handrails (one of them was an exterior stairway handrail and the other one was an interior stairway handrail). I have his help to install a new kitchen faucet, garbage disposer, and a Nest Thermostat, also a bunch of other small stuff along the way. Bob returned my call right away and we set up a time. I had bought one of my light fixtures from an antique store without knowing if it worked. He knew how to make sure it worked before he hung it.
