I unreservedly give Chris O'Keefe my highest recommendation. Chris was originally referred to me by a friend to "spruce up" my studio apartment in So. OC, which had been rented for 30+ years. I had searched many months for a contractor/handyman and previously gotten a number of estimates, which ranged from merely expensive to absolutely outrageous. I liked Chris' straightforward budget conscious approach, so engaged him to do the work. When he and his crew started demo they immediately discovered that almost everything they touched in my 85-year old house needed replacing or repair. I live 400+ miles away so Chris sent pictures and called almost daily. I learned to completely trust his extraordinary skills and design sense, and his ability to maximize every dollar spent. He approached the work as if it were his own money and apartment, and suggested a number of clever details to improve the quality of life in the apartment that I would not have thought of. On tile and manufactured wood flooring, counter, wall paint/color, bathroom vanity and fixture, etc., he researched and sent a number of great choices. Remarkably, I agreed with his every recommendation and the work proceeded without any delays. Now, a few months later, my apartment looks lovelier than it ever has before. I was happy to put it on the rental market and because of his superb makeover, I quickly found my perfect tenant. I have come to know and admire Chris and simply can't recommend him enough! read more

Chris came out twice this week to help with two separate issues. He handled both with his usual expertise. The first had to do with a sink stopper that would not rise from the closed position. Chris had, on hand, a piece of plumbing gear that was perfectly suited to my drain setup. Fixing time was under an hour. The second problem was related to a leak reported by a neighbor. Chris identified the problem areas, and using his expertise and fresh caulk, addressed the leak. What's amazing is his readiness to go to work on issues quickly and efficiently. He responded to my requests immediately. He gets another A. read more

Chris came to our house with many options, very prepared and did a great job on fixing up the seals on our glass shower doors. He came out in the worst weather and was still on time. Finished in the timeframe he thought it would take and a fair price as well. We will use Gina again for other projects! read more

On three separate occasions I have used A Good One Handyman. I have been impressed with his attention to small details and his never give up attitude when trouble shooting or diagnosing an issue. Moreover, he is professional and very knowledgeable about his craft. No job is too small or big and it's refreshing to see someone who is conscientious about their workmanship. If you're seeking a handyman to resolve your matters, don't hesitate to call A Good One Handyman. read more

I had a good feeling at first when hiring Chris for a door jam replacement. At first yes I had to cancel my apt. But I canceled within 5 mins of making it. So I didn't want him to have any effect on his business. And then I said weds. And he said sounds good. Tuesday night I texted him to confirm for Weds. and he said Can possibly do tomorrow! As I'm booked up. Like what does that mean?? Than he calls me at 10 am i couldn't answer because I was at work and he texted me no response by!! Felt like I was dealing with a child. I'm not a yelper and don't write reviews unless others need to hear how my experience went. Maybe it was my fault? But this all could've been handled in a more professional manner. read more

We had an old fluorescent light fixture in our bathroom that was having issues. Our management company called Chris O'Keefe - owner of A Good One Handyman Services & Home Maintenance. Wow is he great! Not only is he old school customer service minded, but he is smart as well. He contacted me with an opening in his schedule, and arrived on time. He determined it would be a good idea to not just replace the ballast in the old unit, but to replace it entirely with an LED fixture, that is virtually maintenance free! No more trying to replace those crazy bulbs. It was an fairly inexpensive fixture, and it is much brighter, and will help reduce my electric bills. What a rare find - I highly recommend you give him a call today! read more

Chris can do anything! I hesitate to let everyone know what an awesome handyman he is, because I don't want him to be too busy when I call him again. I had a long list of things that needed to be done from installing a shower door to changing a shower head that needed a special pipe (that he went out and bought.) He also gives a lot of really good home maintenance advice. Great personality and has pride in his work, He's going to do it right the first time, and his prices are quite reasonable. read more

Nice guy, quick to call back after I texted him. Came out the same day to fix a couple of wonky hanging doors in our home. In and out in about an hour. Will definitely call again when we need some minor fixes. read more

Chris has saved my properties from ruination several times, including driving all the way from the OC to Marin County to install a backsplash on a wall as crooked as the Great Wall of China. read more

Chris is a fantastic person but also an amazing handyman!! :D We needed to do some repairs as we are selling our home and there were a couple of pieces of wood that needed to be replaced. Chris was fast, professional and very honest with his work. The job was done right and didn't break the bank. I would highly recommend him to anyone, in fact, have already done it!. Thank you, Chris! read more

I had a company deliver an electric fireplace to my old address which is less than 5 miles from my current one. I needed someone to pick up the 3 boxes the unit came in and deliver to my correct residence to assemble. I explained that this unit was an electric fireplace with a media component. He did not know what a media console was......should have been my first clue. I went onto the website where I purchased this item to check the total shipping weight which was 220 lbs for the 3 boxes. I explained that a dolly would be needed. I assumed that two guys would be handling this job. When Chris arrived at my house he was complaining that the boxes were heavier than he thought and my house was farther....I said it is a five minute drive.....he said it was 4 miles.....Uhm, well yeah, a minute a mile so 5 minutes and in a residential no traffic area!! Second red flag. I could immediately see that he was not going to be able to do this job. He would not be able to get the boxes inside by himself nor up the stairs without damaging the walls because two people were needed. Then it would be a snap. During our exchange, I told him to please watch that my dog did not get loose. I had a heavy wooden gate and of course, he managed to let the dog by prompting me to run around the neighborhood to catch him......when I came back he managed to get the 3 boxes off the truck and sarcastically said "I thought you went to the John Wayne airport". Mind you it was quite hot and I was in no mood for this guy's crap. I told him to take the boxes and just leave them on my porch. I gave him $65 for a basic delivery services. ($65 an hour is his rate). He actually was pretty rude when he knew he couldn't get more out of me and asked if he should just leave the boxes on the sidewalk for me to move....I am a 5'4 women who weighs 140 lbs with no dolly to lift anything. I have NEVER encountered anyone with such awful people skills. I was patient, but irritated with his cavalier attitude. However, at no point was I rude. This was simply a disaster and an awful experience. I had lost my trusted handyman's number and am really upset because a good one is VERY hard to find. read more

Chris came to my house to resolve a sudden issue with the hot water pressure in the kitchen sink..he resolved it quickly, we found out that somehow the valve to the hot water was off. His service call price was reasonable. I would definitely call Chris again. He's a nice guy and cares about his customers. read more

Chris is the best. I had a window in the kitchen that would leek when it rained. The previous installation was done so poorly Chris said it was the worst craftsmanship he had ever seen. I fair price and only two days it was done and done right. Even the stucco work looks great. Highly Recommend Chris. He is honest and trustworthy. Thanks Chris. read more

Surprised Chris doesn't have a ton of 5 stars for his 25+ years in business. He was referred to me by a family member who used his services in the past. I just moved to Laguna Beach and needed an A.C. installed on a vertical window so I gave Chris a holler. He was super easy to make an appointment with, and came to our apartment on time. He went above and beyond to do a quality job which turned out prefect. He also fixed a table of mine that was missing screws from the move. He showed me the receipts and charged a very fair hourly rate for his services. Well worth it and I highly recommend Chris. read more

I'm posting the following review for my "technology challenged" Dad who received Chris' service in Laguna Hills and liked him so much that prompted him to sent me the following message in email to leave as a review for Chris. ---------------------------------------------------- A decent handyman is always welcome and appreciated. I've found one, Christopher, owner of the A-Good-One. I called him a couple days ago in the morning. His prompt reply surprised me. The pipe connecting between the water heater and the house was leaking. I had to turn off the flame in advance for safety. He came in the late afternoon fixing the problem right away. Then, one by one, he went on to replace 2 set repair kit of the toilet. After he left, another problem came up. I couldn't restore the water heater. Its pilot flame was dead. I called him again. He visited twice without hesitation. Now the heater is back to normal. He really made my day! 100% satisfaction! I highly recommend him to be your handyman. read more

I am an out-of-state landlord. I had a problem with a dead rat in my tenant's house. It was a situation that required immediate assistance. I made several calls and found Chris. He was very responsive, helpful and went out there immediately to solve the problem. He appeared according to an arranged appointment, did the work and reported back to me immediately. I couldn't ask for more and will call him again! read more

They didn't bother to return my call or email requesting help with a small project.

I wanted to rave about my handyman - Chris at Handyman - A Good One. He has done a lot of work for me from roofing to general repairs to sprinklers, and he is always reliable, reasonable and has excellent work quality! I recently moved and now I have to work with Chris on my property remotely and there is no one else that I would trust to complete the work and no one else that I would depend on to get it done and get it done right!! Simply the best! read more
