I don't like the way Dan does business. I called regarding an electrical issue in my garage. The light switch worked at one time and then it did not. Dan sent his electrician to come check it out and after about 30 mins, the electrician said it was a short and would not have time to fix it since it may take 3 to 4 hours. Understandable, I thanked him and off he went until we can schedule another appt. A week or so later, Dan emailed me asking for payment. I kindly explained to him that no work was done but we needed to schedule another appt once we buy a light for the electrician to install once he fixes the short. He said his electrician was at my house for the minimum 2 hr visit and sent me a bill for $175. I told Dan he was at my house for 30 minutes and I tried to fight it but he kept sending me bill emails and his one liner emails were irritating me. So finally I just paid the damn thing. I didn't reschedule for them to come back and actually do work. We just called another electrician and they came by and fixed the switch within 30 minutes!!!!!! Since we paid by the hour our new electrician even replaced our light fixtures to get our $ worth for the full hour. Hence I paid Dan $175 to do nothing. I have little things around the house that can use a handyman but i will not be calling this company back. read more

We've had Dan and/ or his staff over to do work at the house 4 times for a variety of projects. Each time they were professional, friendly, honest, and knowledgeable. We had used some other services that we found on C.L. in the past and had some very bad experiences; I guess anyone can call themselves a handyman and charge you to tinker around in the garage while muttering and trying to look busy. Dan and his staff are contractors and actually know how to fix things properly and efficiently. They'll tell you what your various options are, including things you can do yourself, and they have never failed us. HandyDan is great and we're so glad we found him!! read more

I hired Dan to stain our outside deck, which was looking pretty ratty after the fog and rain had had a year to seep through it. We made an appointment for 9am - I was expecting Dan to come alone and maybe take the whole day to work. Instead, I got 3 dudes who looked like former linebackers come in at 8:50 (10 minutes early! What!) and begin blasting away with power washers, sanders and wood stain. They never stopped, and never asked for tools or had to run to the hardware store the way I've seen other handyman outfits do. The entire job was done in about 3 hours with zero drama. The only time the men stuck their head into the house was to tell me the deck was done, and not to step out on it till the next day. When I mentioned my surprise that they were done so soon, one of them smiled and said, "That's how we roll." Well, damn - I wish more people would roll that quickly! The deck looks great and has stood up not just to the weather but to the hyperactive, scratch-happy boxer pup we've since adopted. Dan is not the cheapest handyman out there, but he is certainly one of the best. If you want something done correctly, promptly and with absolutely no headaches, call him. He's the man. And whatever you need done, he totally can. read more

We have used Handy Dan on several occasions. For small jobs as well as large jobs, such as outside door and shower door replacement. The workmen they send are very capable. They do an excellant job. They clean up after the job is done and remove anything that needs to be discarded. They are efficient, friendly, reliable and very competent. They also finish the job in a timely manner. read more

Daniel and his team are absolutely amazing and I can't recommend them highly enough. I was in a terrible situation with my home renovation (I had to fire my contractor - it was a nightmare). Dan Can came in and fixed everything. And when I say everything, I mean down to every last detail from the expired building permits and past-due inspections to the incorrectly installed fireplace vent and all the other work that was left undone or done wrong by our prior contractor. He even got our countertops fabricated! Daniel is incredibly easy to coordinate with. He responds promptly to texts and it is easy to schedule work with him. He is also easy to pay- he bills you for work he and his team does when they do it. That's it. It's very simple, fair, and transparent. I should mention that Daniel is also creative and a great problem solver. He had a wonderful idea on how to fix something in my kitchen and now it is a feature everyone loves and compliments. So thanks to Dan Can, our home is done. And I will keep using him for little tasks that I can't do myself. He's great. Hire him. read more

I used Dan's services at the suggestion of my home inspection firm and I was pleasantly surprised. He's not only a handyman but also a General Contractor! I was able to get a few small things done but I'm also having him get our new deck done that we've wanted to do for a while but couldn't find a good contractor. His team is responsive, everything was clear to understand and it was great that he could pull the permits and get things done....quickly and ON BUDGET!!! Love them!! read more

I've used Dan's service twice so far, and will have no hesitation to call him again. I like to do my own home improvements, but have an injury which limits my ability to do so. I found him here on Yelp, and am very glad I did. He is easy to contact, reliably shows up ready to work, he's fast, and personable. He takes my input into account, and knows what he's doing. We wall mounted a 47" TV along with the equipment shelves. One of the shelves turned out upside down, but he fixed it in a jiffy without complaint. Then he mounted book and knick-knack shelves. He moved some large furniture which needed to be remounted to the wall in record time. We've spent a total of 5 very productive hours, and my place is finally feeling like home. I have no hesitation in referring him, and have found myself telling friends how pleased I am with his work. Thanks Dan! read more

Handy Dan called me 2 hours past his appointment of 3:00 PM. He was at my house by 5:25. He is very polite. He came in and looked at my job and told me that he would not take the job. His reasoning was that he only takes jobs he would enjoy as he is retired. Handy Dan is a big waste of time. read more

This is the WORST handyman company I have ever used. I would NOT recommend them. I hired HandyDan to do over $2,000 worth of repairs and build a porch railing at a rental unit and it was a disaster. They are overpriced and poorly managed with terrible workmanship that was not to code!!. The estimator was a "no show" for the first appointment, then was late for the next. He took notes about the fixit items but then passed them off to someone else. When the repair man showed up he had no clue what to do. I explained the new railing detail thoroughly and even gave him a drawing. They built and installed the railing incorrectly and not to code. A third man came to fix the problem and was an hour late. He had no clue so I had to explain it all over again. Would you believe that they rebuilt the railing incorrectly the second time??? At this point I was pulling my hair out and had spent many hours supervising the job. I finally called Dan, the owner and he was no help. He should have come out to the job to supervise himself since his workers were incompetent. My tenants were so inconvenienced I had to give them a rent reduction. I never received an apology letter for their poor service and sub-par workmanship from Dan which I would have appreciated. I can't believe HandyDan is still in business... read more

I've been trying to get several projects around the house done, but could never find the time do them until I came across HandyDan. These guys are amazing. No joke. I called one day, the next day they did an estimate (which was FREE, by the way), I was able to schedule the work to begin within the week. To make matters BETTER (not worse) the tech who i believe was named Jose, offered great suggestions and was really helpful. I found their quality of work to be exceptional and they cleaned up after themselves. The only thing i can complain about is that they could dress a little bit more professionally/uniformally, but this can be overlooked considering how good their work was and that they're, well, handymen... Im really satisfied, and know that I'll be calling HandyDan to do future work. KUDOS! read more

I was first appointment of the day at 10 AM yet they couldn't get here on time for the estimate meeting. They said there were accidents on highway, etc, but the thing is their contractor called me at exactly 10 AM telling me he just left and will be arriving at 10:30 AM then he texted me and canceled meeting cause he got stuck in highway. So much for trying to make it here in time, huh? I took time off from work, I am 2 hours late to my work myself. These people were not apologetic at all. They said they were leaving from Palo Alto. Wow, they leave palo alto at 10 AM for a 10 AM appointment in San Francisco? Well guys my manager called me 3 times asking me to come in ASAP while I was waiting for you. If I wasn't friendly when I called to complain about this botched meeting please understand and apologize properly instead of yelling that I was rude and hung up. read more

Happy to give a five star review to Dan Can Handyman Services. We were expecting a new baby when I contacted Dan Can to help devise a hoist to be able to bring cargo from the street to our third floor flat. He personally came and visited the house and helped design a custom pulley hoist to solve our dilemma. We provided him with rough drawings and a wooden prototype and he had a heavy duty steel hoist custom fabricated in two weeks and installed in an hour. Now that we have had the baby it is a godsend. We have over 50 stairs to get up to our flat and now we can just lower a line and hoist our groceries or other gear up and down instead of luggin it up and down. Thank you X 10! We are a big fan of Dan Can! read more

We had a horribly installed dryer vent that needed to be fixed. I called these guys up and they came out the next day. The two gentlemen that came were professional and had no qualms about climbing up in the attic of our hundred-year old building, swimming around in the insulation up there, and fixing the vent. We had a great experience and would definitely use them again. When I paid by check, I apologized to the guys because I did not have cash to give them a little something extra...one of the workers responded, "don't worry, just think of us next time you need something done." It doesn't get any better than that. read more

Dan came and put some crown molding up in my bedroom today, and I will definitely being using his services again. -Quick communication via email (Contacted on Friday, scheduled that night for Monday) -Flexible scheduling (Worked around my schedule, which is a huge plus) -Great communication (Called the morning of, and called when the crew was running a little late - deeply appreciated!) -Reasonable and fair pricing -Great finished product read more

I found HandyDan on the Diamond-certified site and I couldn't be happier with this company's work. They were very punctual for both the estimate and work appointments, pleasant, and did an excellent job. I had a 100 lb mirror installed in my living room. It was a not a typical wall because it was drywall and steel. My garbage disposal also broke. They took care of both issues in half an hour and reimbursed me for the time not used, as well as coached me on how to use fix the garbage disposal myself in the future. Highly recommended. read more

I hired Dan to do some work at my office and he did a phenomenal job!! The office needed an overall spruce up including: Touch-up paint, hanging of photos/white boards, removing a broken water heater and a list of other random projects. Dan was on time to every appointment, had strong attention to detail and a great attitude. I also found his prices to be reasonable in comparison to other quotes I received. If in need of handyman services, Dan is the man! read more

Handy Dan has helped me with a number of retail jobs that I have had for the company I work for. They have never let me down. They always take care of things in a professional and efficient way, and they are extremely reasonably priced. They can take on any job and are a pleasure to work with. They are great for residential and commercial scopes of work. read more

I had HandyDan put up a fairly heavy vintage brass and crystal chandelier and ceiling medallion in my bedroom and install some shelves in my kitchen and was extremely happy with the work that he did. He showed up on time, was very pleasant, worked efficiently and his rates were reasonable. Based upon my experience, I would definitely hire him again and would even consider using him for a bigger project, such as a bathroom, which he also does. (You can see an example on his website.) read more

This review is long overdue -- I used HandyDan in my rental unit. The tenants had a host of little problems in the loft I rent out and Handy Dan was able to fix everything quickly and efficiently. They even cleaned the celing fan that is 22ft in the air! If you're the type of person that just doesn't have time to fix all those little pesky problems (garbage disposal, broken wardrobe bar, dead light bulb in a light fixture you have no idea how to pry open without breaking it) they can do it. Angel was great when he came to fix my long list of items and my tenants were happy. Highly recommend! read more

I was in the middle of refinancing my house when the bank decided to throw me a curveball: I had a weekend to get my wooden railings replaced. So off to yelp I go and I searched for a handyman around the Daly City area. One by one, I called each handyman in my search results starting from the top. It was such a small job, most of them did not want to take it. I had one handyman say he would give me a call back because he was busy but never did. It was frustrating. An hour later I finally found Dan's ad at the bottom of Yelp's page and I was glad I did. Dan was very patient and professional over the phone and told me he can fit me into his schedule on the same day! He showed up on time, brought all his own tools, and completed the job in less than two hours! What impresssed me the most was his attention to detail and knowledge. In addition, he also helped me patch up a big hole in my wall and remove my old satellite dish from the roof. Thanks to Dan, my refi was a success and II will be using Dan Can for all my housing projects! read more

Dan fixed my roof. I have had a leak for years in my roof that was flowing into my bathroom through the ceiling every time it would rain. I have had three different "roofing experts" out to fix it to no avail. On Saturday the rain started and the leak began pouring water into my bathroom. In a panic I called Dan. Within an hour he was at my house on the roof and patched the leak. He came back and permanently fixed the leak Monday. It is now pouring outside and not a drop of water coming out of the bathroom ceiling. Dan Can Handyman you are the MAN!!!! read more

Handy Dan did a horrible job on a rebuild. They caused more leakages to my unit before they started. They would double book and leave me waiting with out so much of a call. I would never use them again! When I called them to attempt to fix their mistake, they would make appointments, however never showing up. Eventually they just ignored my calls all together! There licence should be pulled! I am still living with a non functional bathroom and leakages through the outside walls. read more

I have used Handy Dan many times over the past few years and used to be really happy. The most recent time - they were 2 hrs LATE, didn't actually do the work discussed BUT they charged $85. Apparently the $85 is for the estimate - which was NOT FREE as posted here. When they came back again, I felt they over chaged and underdelivered.... Shotty and unprofessional work. Need to find a new handyman... Sorry Handy Dan... read more

I hired this company to change some lights and install some hardware on my cabinets. When I explained the work on the phone the man I spoke with suggested that all this and more could be done in a two hour service call window. In actuality the man who actually showed up 45 minutes early took one and a half hours to switch out a ceiling fan for a fixed light. He then went to work on the bathroom hardware which was only about twelve handles if that. In the end it took him about three and a half hours to do a third of the job I was expecting based on my conversation with the man I hired. Now I need to hire someone else to finish removing three hanging lights and install kitchen hardware. The worst part is that the bathroom hardware is installed crooked and one of the handles is broken. He didn't tell me that when he left. Nice. Wouldn't hire them again. read more

I've been using Dan and his team for the last few years whenever anything unexpected comes up at our business. Plumbing, electric, painting, mechanical...you name it, his team will figure it out. And they will do so quickly, honestly and fairly. Like any great small business owner, Dan IS completely hands-on while also effectively managing a great team of skilled trades. He has literally saved us too many times to recall. As you know, when problems arise, so does stress. But when you have complete faith in someone that they will figure it out, you can trust that you are in good hands and this shall pass. Before I knew Dan, I suffered from the same problem over and over. A problem arises unexpectedly and you are stressed, you look online to find someone to fix it that you hope that you can trust, they actually show up for your appointment if you are lucky, they barely have a clue what the remedy is, charge you a lot and don't fix the problem. Sound familiar? Well after years and years of that, I don't have that problem ever again now that I know I can call Dan. Dan IS extremely smart, extremely organized, extremely honest and does not stop until the job is done. Dan has integrity. Dan IS a lifesaver. Call him! read more

I have never had such a bad experience with any handyman service like this. I wanted to have some shelves installed and create a wooden trim for my new microwave that was bigger than the old one so the trim kit didnt fit. we had some other repairs we wanted to do. each experience with them was terrible. the wood used for around the microwave and the additional shelving in the kitchen was poor quality and not sanded properly. as it is they said they wouldnt paint it even after we gave them the paint we had used from our remodel. then I asked them to make a shelf in our bathroom cabinet and they just put in a plank! they dont answer emails or calls. they say they will come and then never call back and then suddenly call to say they are coming to do the work. they also installed a fan to vent our stero cabinet and used velcro to keep it in place! I have never seen such bad work. on top of it all they are rude, and have no integrity or pride in their work read more

I have used Dan numerous times over the years and he is consistently really great and a total professional. Dan is capable of handling a wide variety of projects (hanging shelves and a honey-do list to remodel of a small bathroom) and whatever he is doing, he will think it through and plan it out vs. just dive in and worry about details later - Dan has great technical skills. Dan also has a team of people that work with him that specialize in various areas, so he can bring in the help you need if something is beyond his scope. Dan and any of the workers he brings with him are respectful, trustworthy and do a great job cleaning up when they are done in my experience. And finally, I do feel that what he charges is always fair. Dan is my go to handyman! read more

I recently used Dan's services and was not at all disappointed! He was GREAT! I had a list of things to be done around the house and he completed every one of them in two hours! We were in the process of converting my son's toddler bed to a big boy bed and needed Dan to assemble the new bed. If anyone has done this, you know it can be challenging. Dan completed the job just in time for the new mattress arrival. He was prompt, professional and easy to work with. He even came back within a hour after leaving because I had screwed up some of his work. He is AWESOME! If you need handyman work, can Dan! read more

Dan was great -- he came twice to help us get through our long-lingering to-do list. He was easy to have around the house, efficient with his time, and helpful in making suggestions as to how to fix things right. He assembled and hung a pot rack, removed a wall hanging TV, and patched and painted a bunch of dings that we have collected on our walls over the years. He also managed to fix a dresser for us. I would definitely call him again -- I'm sure I will soon. read more

I recently used this company to install tile in my downstairs bathroom as well as install crown molding in a few rooms throughout my home. I was impressed with the quality of work I received. Dan and his team helped us with a fairly extensive bathroom remodel. They were professional, comprehensive, friendly, and worked closely with us on every part of the project. They addressed any minor issues right away. And the price was very fair for the work they did. We've used them on a repainting project as well, and won't hesitate to use them in the future. It's good to have people like this in the city who just do the job right without any fuss. read more

I used this service in May when I moved into a new studio in the Haight. I had a bunch of furniture that needed to be put together such as a couch and a desk and I wanted to install some room-darkening curtains. He did a great job, and even went above and beyond to go to his truck and saw off a piece of the curtain rod since the rod I bought was slightly too big for the wall. I would definitely use Dan Can Handyman Services again! read more
