I don't like the way Dan does business. I called regarding an electrical issue in my garage. The light switch worked at one time and then it did not. Dan sent his electrician to come check it out and after about 30 mins, the electrician said it was a short and would not have time to fix it since it may take 3 to 4 hours. Understandable, I thanked him and off he went until we can schedule another appt. A week or so later, Dan emailed me asking for payment. I kindly explained to him that no work was done but we needed to schedule another appt once we buy a light for the electrician to install once he fixes the short. He said his electrician was at my house for the minimum 2 hr visit and sent me a bill for $175. I told Dan he was at my house for 30 minutes and I tried to fight it but he kept sending me bill emails and his one liner emails were irritating me. So finally I just paid the damn thing. I didn't reschedule for them to come back and actually do work. We just called another electrician and they came by and fixed the switch within 30 minutes!!!!!! Since we paid by the hour our new electrician even replaced our light fixtures to get our $ worth for the full hour. Hence I paid Dan $175 to do nothing. I have little things around the house that can use a handyman but i will not be calling this company back. read more

We've had Dan and/ or his staff over to do work at the house 4 times for a variety of projects. Each time they were professional, friendly, honest, and knowledgeable. We had used some other services that we found on C.L. in the past and had some very bad experiences; I guess anyone can call themselves a handyman and charge you to tinker around in the garage while muttering and trying to look busy. Dan and his staff are contractors and actually know how to fix things properly and efficiently. They'll tell you what your various options are, including things you can do yourself, and they have never failed us. HandyDan is great and we're so glad we found him!! read more

I hired Dan to stain our outside deck, which was looking pretty ratty after the fog and rain had had a year to seep through it. We made an appointment for 9am - I was expecting Dan to come alone and maybe take the whole day to work. Instead, I got 3 dudes who looked like former linebackers come in at 8:50 (10 minutes early! What!) and begin blasting away with power washers, sanders and wood stain. They never stopped, and never asked for tools or had to run to the hardware store the way I've seen other handyman outfits do. The entire job was done in about 3 hours with zero drama. The only time the men stuck their head into the house was to tell me the deck was done, and not to step out on it till the next day. When I mentioned my surprise that they were done so soon, one of them smiled and said, "That's how we roll." Well, damn - I wish more people would roll that quickly! The deck looks great and has stood up not just to the weather but to the hyperactive, scratch-happy boxer pup we've since adopted. Dan is not the cheapest handyman out there, but he is certainly one of the best. If you want something done correctly, promptly and with absolutely no headaches, call him. He's the man. We have used Handy Dan on several occasions. For small jobs as well as large jobs, such as outside door and shower door replacement. The workmen they send are very capable. They do an excellant job. Daniel and his team are absolutely amazing and I can't recommend them highly enough. I was in a terrible situation with my home renovation (I had to fire my contractor - it was a nightmare). Dan Can came in and fixed everything. And when I say everything, I mean down to every last detail from the expired building permits and past-due inspections to the incorrectly installed fireplace vent and all the other work that was left undone or done wrong by our prior contractor. I've used Dan's service twice so far, and will have no hesitation to call him again. I like to do my own home improvements, but have an injury which limits my ability to do so. I found him here on Yelp, and am very glad I did. He is easy to contact, reliably shows up ready to work, he's fast, and personable. He takes my input into account, and knows what he's doing. We wall mounted a 47" TV along with the equipment shelves. One of the shelves turned out upside down, but he fixed it in a jiffy without complaint. Then he mounted book and knick-knack shelves. He moved some large furniture which needed to be remounted to the wall in record time. We've spent a total of 5 very productive hours, and my place is finally feeling like home. This is the WORST handyman company I have ever used. I would NOT recommend them. I hired HandyDan to do over $2,000 worth of repairs and build a porch railing at a rental unit and it was a disaster. They are overpriced and poorly managed with terrible workmanship that was not to code!!. The estimator was a "no show" for the first appointment, then was late for the next. He took notes about the fixit items but then passed them off to someone else. When the repair man showed up he had no clue what to do. I explained the new railing detail thoroughly and even gave him a drawing. They built and installed the railing incorrectly and not to code. A third man came to fix the problem and was an hour late. He had no clue so I had to explain it all over again. Would you believe that they rebuilt the railing incorrectly the second time??? At this point I was pulling my hair out and had spent many hours supervising the job. I finally called Dan, the owner and he was no help. He should have come out to the job to supervise himself since his workers were incompetent. My tenants were so inconvenienced I had to give them a rent reduction. I never received an apology letter for their poor service and sub-par workmanship from Dan which I would have appreciated. I can't believe HandyDan is still in business... read more

I've been trying to get several projects around the house done, but could never find the time do them until I came across HandyDan. These guys are amazing. No joke. I called one day, the next day they did an estimate (which was FREE, by the way), I was able to schedule the work to begin within the week. To make matters BETTER (not worse) the tech who i believe was named Jose, offered great suggestions and was really helpful. I found their quality of work to be exceptional and they cleaned up after themselves. The only thing i can complain about is that they could dress a little bit more professionally/uniformally, but this can be overlooked considering how good their work was and that they're, well, handymen... I was first appointment of the day at 10 AM yet they couldn't get here on time for the estimate meeting. They said there were accidents on highway, etc, but the thing is their contractor called me at exactly 10 AM telling me he just left and will be arriving at 10:30 AM then he texted me and canceled meeting cause he got stuck in highway. So much for trying to make it here in time, huh? I took time off from work, I am 2 hours late to my work myself. These people were not apologetic at all. They said they were leaving from Palo Alto. Wow, they leave palo alto at 10 AM for a 10 AM appointment in San Francisco? Well guys my manager called me 3 times asking me to come in ASAP while I was waiting for you. Happy to give a five star review to Dan Can Handyman Services. We were expecting a new baby when I contacted Dan Can to help devise a hoist to be able to bring cargo from the street to our third floor flat. He personally came and visited the house and helped design a custom pulley hoist to solve our dilemma. We provided him with rough drawings and a wooden prototype and he had a heavy duty steel hoist custom fabricated in two weeks and installed in an hour. Now that we have had the baby it is a godsend. We have over 50 stairs to get up to our flat and now we can just lower a line and hoist our groceries or other gear up and down instead of luggin it up and down. Thank you X 10! We had a horribly installed dryer vent that needed to be fixed. I called these guys up and they came out the next day. The two gentlemen that came were professional and had no qualms about climbing up in the attic of our hundred-year old building, swimming around in the insulation up there, and fixing the vent. We had a great experience and would definitely use them again. When I paid by check, I apologized to the guys because I did not have cash to give them a little something extra...one of the workers responded, "don't worry, just think of us next time you need something done." This review is long overdue -- I used HandyDan in my rental unit. The tenants had a host of little problems in the loft I rent out and Handy Dan was able to fix everything quickly and efficiently. They even cleaned the celing fan that is 22ft in the air! If you're the type of person that just doesn't have time to fix all those little pesky problems (garbage disposal, broken wardrobe bar, dead light bulb in a light fixture you have no idea how to pry open without breaking it) they can do it. I was in the middle of refinancing my house when the bank decided to throw me a curveball: I had a weekend to get my wooden railings replaced. So off to yelp I go and I searched for a handyman around the Daly City area. One by one, I called each handyman in my search results starting from the top. It was such a small job, most of them did not want to take it. I had one handyman say he would give me a call back because he was busy but never did. It was frustrating. An hour later I finally found Dan's ad at the bottom of Yelp's page and I was glad I did. Dan was very patient and professional over the phone and told me he can fit me into his schedule on the same day! Dan fixed my roof. I have had a leak for years in my roof that was flowing into my bathroom through the ceiling every time it would rain. I have had three different "roofing experts" out to fix it to no avail. On Saturday the rain started and the leak began pouring water into my bathroom. In a panic I called Dan. Within an hour he was at my house on the roof and patched the leak. He came back and permanently fixed the leak Monday. Handy Dan did a horrible job on a rebuild. They caused more leakages to my unit before they started. They would double book and leave me waiting with out so much of a call. I would never use them again! When I called them to attempt to fix their mistake, they would make appointments, however never showing up. Eventually they just ignored my calls all together! I hired this company to change some lights and install some hardware on my cabinets. When I explained the work on the phone the man I spoke with suggested that all this and more could be done in a two hour service call window. In actuality the man who actually showed up 45 minutes early took one and a half hours to switch out a ceiling fan for a fixed light. He then went to work on the bathroom hardware which was only about twelve handles if that. In the end it took him about three and a half hours to do a third of the job I was expecting based on my conversation with the man I hired. Now I need to hire someone else to finish removing three hanging lights and install kitchen hardware. The worst part is that the bathroom hardware is installed crooked and one of the handles is broken. He didn't tell me that when he left. Nice. Wouldn't hire them again. read more

I have never had such a bad experience with any handyman service like this. I wanted to have some shelves installed and create a wooden trim for my new microwave that was bigger than the old one so the trim kit didnt fit. we had some other repairs we wanted to do. each experience with them was terrible. the wood used for around the microwave and the additional shelving in the kitchen was poor quality and not sanded properly. as it is they said they wouldnt paint it even after we gave them the paint we had used from our remodel. then I asked them to make a shelf in our bathroom cabinet and they just put in a plank! they dont answer emails or calls. they say they will come and then never call back and then suddenly call to say they are coming to do the work. they also installed a fan to vent our stero cabinet and used velcro to keep it in place! I have never seen such bad work. on top of it all they are rude, and have no integrity or pride in their work read more

Dan is capable of handling a wide variety of projects (hanging shelves and a honey-do list to remodel of a small bathroom) and whatever he is doing, he will think it through and plan it out vs. just dive in and worry about details later - Dan has great technical skills. Dan also has a team of people that work with him that specialize in various areas, so he can bring in the help you need if something is beyond his scope. Dan and any of the workers he brings with him are respectful, trustworthy and do a great job cleaning up when they are done in my experience. I recently used Dan's services and was not at all disappointed! He was GREAT! I had a list of things to be done around the house and he completed every one of them in two hours! I had a bunch of furniture that needed to be put together such as a couch and a desk and I wanted to install some room-darkening curtains. He did a great job, and even went above and beyond to go to his truck and saw off a piece of the curtain rod since the rod I bought was slightly too big for the wall. I would not recommend Dan. My bathroom tub/shower needed to be re-caulked where tile meets tub. I paid Dan $500 to repair it. He or his team were out 6 times to try and fix it and it is not fixed and he is done with trying. read more
