We had an excellent experience working with Larry and his team. He helped us address two Notices of Violation for our unit and was timely, thorough, and delivered high-quality work throughout the process. Just as importantly, he handled communication with our tenants diplomatically and professionally, which made a stressful situation feel manageable and collaborative. He is highly responsive, thoughtful, and someone we trust deeply to do the right thing. Having a contractor who feels like a true partner, especially in situations involving inspections and compliance, is invaluable. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, high-integrity contractor. read more

We had a door replaced by these folks about a year ago. Fast forward to now and the deadbolt assembly just completely fell out of the door for no reason. We had a locksmith come by to address the issue and, after examining the lock, he told us that it had not been even close to properly installed and was surprised it hadn't fallen out or failed sooner. In addition, the door handle hardware installation was not flush with the surface of the door on either side which has gotten worse. The door hanging itself was fine as was the finish work around the jamb but the details left a lot to be desired. read more

I had a door that had been poorly installed. Design + Build came over and gave me a bid and a time estimate for the work. While taking the door out, they noticed that it required a bit more work than originally thought. They said it would be a "bit" more. They actually did not work longer than the original bid. When I got the final bill, it was almost double the original bid. It seems that the people who are now at Design+ Build are not the same ones that got good reviews in the past. These guys just recently bought out the original Design+Build. Watch out. read more

Installation of new toilet turned out to be a much harder job than expected. My 100 year old plumbing fell apart as the old toilet was removed. LINCOLN , the plumber worked most of the day doing a new hook up to the sewer. Hard job but well done! read more

We thought he would be good based on the reviews, but the photos we've posted speak for themselves. We hired Ken to install a dog door in a sidelite to a french door. He had a great idea, which was to make the sidelite look like the french door it was replacing. He was enthusiastic and we were taken in. What he gave us a piece of not-very-nice-wood, with some windows puttied in, the wood grain showing through the very patchy paint job, and dog door at the bottom. The best part about the project is that we have a dog door (that we bought ourselves and gave him to incorporate into the project). The putty that secures the windows is applied unevenly and soft, easily giving to fingerprints. You can see the unevenness of the putty from the other side of the window. Ken had promised to cover it with wood trim -- like a normal door with a window - but we have been waiting 6 weeks for him to respond. In addition, the door was not properly sanded or primed before painted. It looks horrible. We call and call, but in vain. The one time we reached him, he promised to call back within the next few days with a time that he would stop by, and fix the door. That was 2 weeks ago. Ken recently started advertising and is apparently too overburdened to take care of the customer flow. That means, if you manage to secure him for a job, do not expect it to be done in a timely or professional manner. The bottom line: if you don't care what your project looks like and don't care about having to constantly call and wonder if you're being heard, hire Ken, and wait..and wait. If you're busy and just want things to be done correctly, hire a real professional. read more

Ken installed 2 new toilets I bought at Lowe's - GREAT job, excellent service, easy and professional scheduling. He actually went above and beyond his scope of work, as replacing 2 Porcher (French) toilets with 2 American Standard toilets was not a straight forward job without glitches. I will definitely contact 415 again and recommend Ken and 415 wholeheartedly! read more

It's hard to find time to do my own household repairs lately. After making a few calls I decided to use Bay Handyman. We went over a few things and I felt comfortable that they could perform the repairs I needed. Ken fixed some faulty wiring that the old tenants tried to install themselves. He repaired the side door, trim, and a new light fixture outside the door. He even offered to clean up around the outside premises of the garage that needed attention. Including a new latch and hinges on the fence which were in desperate need of replacing. Later we got to taking about how I was looking for someone to help with tile work. He tells me he has all the tools for that as well. He's great with woodwork, creativity, helping with new ideas and solutions. I can't wait to see what he's going to come up with for the tile work! Needless to say I'll be using Bay Handyman services again. read more

Lincoln installed our new toilet and did s fine, efficient, successful job including cleaning up very well and answering all my many questions. And he was very pleasant to talk with. Highly recommended read more

Ken was heaven sent. We had hired another handyman who was just awful (hard to reach, demanding, messy, and didn't even fix what he hired him to do)! And then we found Ken. He was super responsive. He came within twenty-four hours of our call, and he came with a good attitude: friendly, but eager to get to work. He was considerate, tidy, did a great job, and wasn't too expensive. He has a wide range of skills and experience. And he even politely took off his shoes in our apartment. He's our man! read more

Bay Handyman has been so helpful. I recently had some major issues with my toilet - toilet water all over the floor; gross! Ken came over that same afternoon, figured out the problem and even had the parts to fix it right then and there. It took him under an hour :) read more

Ken and his people are amazing!! He did a great job on a medium size remodel project. He went the extra mile to make sure small details were taken care of. He even scheduled a follow up visit post- construction to fix and of the 'small' things that inevitably need touch ups. I would highly recommend Ken and his team. read more

What can i say about Ken. He is a dependable, honest, and very capable contractor and handyman. I have used Ken for about three years. He is my on call guy whenever there is a problem at the rental building we own in the city. Whether it is a simple snaking issue to clear drainage, to windows that need repair, or minor electrical or plumbing issues, I can always count on Ken to fix the problem in a timely manner and for a very fair price. If i could give Ken 6 stars, I would. Highly recommend his service. He does everything with a great attitude and smile to boot. read more

I bought two shower doors from Lowe's and 415 design+Build came as the installer. They were extremely professional in scheduling the installation. On the day of the installation I got a call that the installer had injured his hand while loading the shower doors into the vehicle and had to go to urgent care and hence would be a couple hours late. An hour later (still in the ETA window) I got a call from Lincoln, the installer, saying he was outside my house. He insisted on doing the job even though he had hurt is hand. He took a little longer than the estimated time due to his injury and the nature of the walls in my condo but he did an amazing job installing both doors. The walls in my condo had not been plumbed and he worked very creatively around this problem to make sure the doors were installed right. He went out of his way to make sure I was happy with the installation. I would highly recommend Lincoln for any of your complex household work that requires a specialized contractor. Thank you Design+Build! read more

We called Ken two days ago and arranged a visit today. We had a variety of small problems. We needed a headboard installed, a sink unclogged, door hinges to be replaced and a picture to be hung. He did them all in less than 3 hours (could have been faster but we didn't have all the right hardware and had to go buy some. He is pleasant, innovative and knows a great deal, probably from having spent years on boats as long as 200+ feet. Best for us is that he lives 5 blocks away. We will continue to use him as needed. read more

Like others before me, I found Ken through fellow Yelp reviewers. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Ken each of the 4 times I've worked with him. He's prompt, thorough, very knowledgable, honest, pleasant, and just a super-great resource all around. No job is too big or too small, and he's very efficient. He does not hesitate to let you know if it's not worth it to have him fix something, and he always cleans things up when he's done. I know I can trust him, and I'll be calling him for help many, many more times in the future! read more

We called Ken about installing some motion sensor lights outside our home, due to an attempted house break-in and an actual car break-in that occurred exactly one day later; naturally we've been a little anxious about home security, concerned that we were being "cased." Ken was super nice on the phone, and agreed to come out that very afternoon to give us an estimate, which we really, really appreciated. My partner and I rearranged our schedules to be here during the 90 minute window he gave us, but he didn't show up. Barring a fiery car wreck (and I sincerely hope nothing of the sort befell him!), I would think a professional would attempt some sort of communication if an appointment couldn't be kept. It was frustrating and disappointing... one more experience of Bay Area flakiness that shakes my desire to think the best of people. Bummer. read more

I'm so glad I called Ken! My kitchen sink was leaking and he was very prompt in coming over. I was impressed with how quickly he fixed it so I had him do a few other things around the house as well. I would definitely recommend giving him a call if you're needing some fix it help! read more

Ken did a great job installing my curtain rods and taking the time to help me figure out what would look the best. It did not take up the whole hour, so he was quick to offer to fix anything else that I needed help with. His rate was reasonable, he was on time and very personable. I would recommend him! read more

Ken is great. He was supposed to come on Friday and ended up not being able to make it. So he came on Saturday at my convenience. $40 an hour is great. He is a winner. Thanks Ken read more

Ken did a great job installing both a TV mount and a tricky ceiling mounted pullup bar. When we realized that the install would be more difficult than anticipated, he went over to the hardware store to buy, cut-to-size and install 2x4's to function as support for the ceiling beams. Stand-up guy, on-time and did an excellent job would recommend! read more

A friend of mine who had been renovating her kitchen referred me to Bay Handyman. Ken, the owner, did a great job with my "honey do" list. He fixed a toilet that had been leaking water, replaced our really old picket fence, and fixed our back door that kept getting stuck. Ken is awesome! He is friendly, fast, does solid work, and best of all, his prices were really affordable. I will definitely call him again! read more

We called a number of local "handymen" to perform a series of fix-it tasks at our house in Berkeley. Ken was the first to respond and scheduled his visit to our house within 2 days of our initial conversation. He performed all the work we asked of him (repairing some shelves, attaching window latches, installing motion sensor lights, putting up a wall bike rack) with skill and care, and we found he has a broad array of skills including electrical work and carpentry. But what we really liked about him was that he recommended upgrades to our house and yard that we had not considered. For example, he showed us how to install and integrate a series of path lights that better illuminated the approach to our front door with up-lights highlighting our oak trees. Ken is skilled, creative, a good communicator, and charges a very reasonable hourly rate -- a combination that we recommend to anyone who needs a truly versatile handyman. read more
